 The lioness had been laying in the shade, when a sudden spurt of restlessness came over her. Her cub was certainly old enough to spend some time by himself while she went out to stretch her legs. She had been intensively careing for Zenoba; now would be a great for some time herself.
Zenobia leaped to her feet. "Athena! Lets go out and have some fun." She bounded in circles. Perhaps it was spring air or something. She had no idea, what exactly she was going to do. Winging it by the wings on her back delighted her. It would be nice if Athena would go with here. Even if he didn't, she was still going out.

Athena had been half napping in the sun, enjoying the warmth on his fur. It was a beautiful day, the females and cubs all seemed content. His new littler of cubs being the biggest concern on his fluffy mind these days. The fact that Niade was not sure what she wanted to do worried him. They had been of the agreement that she would leave the cubs with him when they had started on this venture.
Had that been what she did right away, it would not have worried him, that she seemed uncomfortable with the cubs and uncertain what she wished to do, that worried him. Athena was just about drifted to a full sleep in spite of his worry when Zenobia's outburst brought him back up. He raised his head and blinked at her. He was quite aware that Zenoba was now old enough to even look after other cubs let alone himself, but Zenobia's energy and urge to go off away from her son, still took him by surprise.
Delighted surprise, but still surprise. Athena raised to his feet and shook himself off. The little bits of grass in his mane did not really bother him that much, but one did not want to go out and look a mess, especially with such wonderful company. He took a moment to double check that the grass was off himself and then padded over to the obviously hyper Zenobia. "Have some fun? Is there something particular you had in mind, or shall we just go wondering for a bit?"

The lioness grinned as the big, fluffy lion shook grass out of his fluff. She guessed it was easier than dust. Zeno could just imagine the lion standing up after laying in dirt and shaking. A big cloud of dust wafting off of him. She poked his fluffy mane with her nose when he came over.
"Yes. I've been here too long. No, nothing specific Athena. I just want to run across the plains and feel the wind under my paws." She gave a grin. "Wandering wherever the wind and grass leads us. We shouldn't be gone more than a day, but I need some out time." With that, the pale lioness turned and headed off.
Zeno didn't consciously pick any direction. Completely randomly as she turned her eyes spotted what looked like a large tree in the distance, and that's what she set her sights on. Quickly she established the loping stride to let her travel long distances without tiring too much. She looked over her shoulder to see if Athena was coming. He did have those new cubs; she could understand if he didn't want to leave them.

Athena grinned at the nose that poked into his mane and fluffed himself up more. He could not help but appreciate the attention from the lioness. He had been good and made no obvious passes at her while she had her cub to look after. He had even helped her when he could with Zenoba. Now, she had just made it clear the cub was old enough as far as she was concerned to be by himself. This was a good thing for Athena.
Athena chuckled at the lioness' reply to his question and made sure the cubs were still safely denned and that the others were aware of where he was headed. Until the cubs were old enough to travel, they would not be moving from this spot and the others would not mind hunting/watching cubs for a bit while he was gone. He often spoiled them by doing all the hunting afterall.
That done, Athena trotted off after Zenobia and nipped her rump playfully when he caught up to her. "Wind under your paws can be arranged if you keep moving, I do believe, my beautiful butterfly cloud." Athena thought all the females were beautiful and all the males he had met along the way were handsome, but Zenobia had to be the most radiant, with her snow white fur and silver markings.

Zeno gave a playful squeal and half kick with her back legs when he nipped her. She was glad he'd come along and was in such a good mood. "Oh?" she wondered how he would arrange it. The pale lioness flashed a big grin at the male for his flattery. The older girl would never admit it, but she loved his sweet words for her. She wiggled her tail teasingly at his nose and took off running.
"Lets see if you can catch your butterfly." Zenobia took off. Just flying across the savanah her paws felt as if they barely touched the ground. For a moment, she completely forgot Athena chasing her, her nearly full grown cub for the sheer pleasure to run. Scaring a couple lone wildebeests and zebras slowed her down. She looked back to find Athena and gave him a breathless grin. They had come further than she'd thought. Nearly to the tree she'd spotted earlier.
"Looks like this might be a good place to hunt. There's a nice green line; should be plenty of animals enjoying the shade and water. What do you think?" She rubbed affectionately against the large lion.

Athena would have told Zeno what arrangements he had made, but she was off like a shot before he got to say much more to her. He watched her run and chuckled to himself. He could never catch her, he was much to bulky to run as fast as she, but he certainly would make sure he was not too far behind her. He shot off at a dead run, trying his best to keep up but not over do it.
When Zenobia stopped, Athena had some distance yet before he caught her. He kept himself at the run just in case she took off again. He wanted to close that remaining distance before she decided it was a good idea to get fleet feet once more! He had not run like this in some time, so by the time he finally did catch up to the female he was panting and trying not to fall over. He could walk forever, running not so much.
Athena looked around the area that Zenobia had stopped in and nodded. "It does look like a good place to hunt, but I think we may have to let the big fluff ball rest a moment first. I can run in spurts, but not nearly as long as some slighter forms I know." The fluffy male purred at being rubbed against and nuzzled the lioness in return. "Perhaps you would like to join me in making a fluffy puddle in the grass for a bit?"

She gave the fluffy lion a sympathetic grin when she realized he was panting. Zenobia determine not go until he had caught his breath. "You need to get out more often." She purred chuckling. Her eyes gave Athena a good look over.
"I would, except I don't think I'm fluffy enough to count." She grinned again and settled herself down. It would give them a chance to talk about what they wanted hunt to hunt. Zeno looked out across the area expanding out in front of them, looking for suitable targets to suggest. "Mmmmmm got a hankering for anything specific today?" She knew that anything large would be good by her. The pale lioness just wanted something she could chase down.

Athena chuckled at Zenobia. "You forget, I do most of the hunting. It is not so much that I need to get out more, but that I am built for a lower, steadier speed and power pouncing rather than a sprint or high speed run." He settled himself down and put a paw over Zenobia's belly. He folded the paw under her and actually scooted her right up against him, to hold her there. The male purred loudly in her ear.
"You are a little cloud puff, you are certainly fluffy enough to count." Athena started grooming her ears and her one cheek. He considered her question of food as he distracted himself with spoiling her. He really did like to spoil his companions. The females were everything to him. He used to take whatever company and fun he could get, now he was finding himself surrounded with only females and not being at all bothered by the lack of other males for fun.
"I eat just about anything, as I am sure has come to the attention of the beautiful ladies that travel with me... not always in the most pleasant fashion, I am sure." He gave a goofy grin and nuzzled her neck. Athena really was not beyond admitting he was a typical male on some things. He just tried very hard to make sure those things did not bother his companions. "Perhaps it is best if you pick something to hunt, beautiful."

"Alright, I'll have to give you that," she replied laughing. Athena was an excellent provider and friend. Zenobia was glad he got more cubs than just Zenoba. She adored the male for his easy going ways. She giggled as he snuggled and purred. He was like.... well he was a big fluffy lion! That thought amused her as she rested.
"A cloud puff hu?" She slit an eye open to look at him humourusly. "You'd better be careful your cloud doesn't go floating off." Zeno let her eyes close as he spoiled her. Between Athena and Zenoba, she was the best taken care of as she'd ever been. Her two favorite boys in the savannas.
Another part of her mind was already working on the hunt. How best to use both of their abilities. She was the sprinter, and itching for a chase. "Mmmmmm I want something big and tasty. With you here we'll be able to take it down. I'm thinking I can make the selection and drive it toward you. With you in abmush it should be easy." Zeno glanced at him for his thoughts.

Athena fluffed out his mane and nuzzled Zenobia. She was beautiful and he would enjoy spoiling and loving on her as long as possible before they went hunting. He could not waste too much time, but he certainly would try. Of course, to him it was not a waste of time to laze here spoiling the beautiful female that was pulled against hims fluffy pelt. It was just a good use of his time.
"I would be more worried of the cloud puff trying to fly away on those little wings she has on her back." Athena stuck his muzzle down and licked said wings to make his point. "Especially when I say what I wish to next." The male gave her a little squeeze before letting her have her space again if she wished it. "I think Zenoba needs some siblings... maybe some fluffy ones." He grinned at her, hoping that she would take that well.
Athena was aware that he might have just said the wrong thing, but damned if he did not believe it to be true. He wanted to give Zenobia more cubs. She had loved having Zenoba so much that it seemed only fair to give her more cubs to love. She was contemplating food though, so he best get his fluffy head back on task. "I am very good at ambushing and knocking things down, so no problem with that plan, beautiful."

Zenobia let the fluffy male snuggle for awhile. She enjoyed the snuggles, but she really wanted to hunt at the moment. Snuggles could come after they were both fed. The pale lioness couldn't help but laugh at his words. "I'm not as light as I use to be Athena," she teased. Her ears perked when he mentioned Zenoba. Carefully she thought about it. "He does have six siblings, though they are in that pride. I think I see what you mean. You don't think it'll be awkward for him? I mean he is an adult now."
She rolled to her belly to look at him, at first, in surprise. It took her back to the first time they'd met. He'd come off so friendly and she'd run. Athena had shown her with Zenoba and his new cubs, that the male was perfect with cubs. Zenobia gave a broad grin; she was relaxed this time. "Fluffy cubs with my wings would be adorable. Sounds good to me. Now lets go get dinner so we have plenty of time to relax."
Feeling giddy, she jumped to her feet. "You find a good hiding spot. I'll drive the selected prey into that divot there." It would be a good hunt she was sure. Zeno gave the fluffy male a quick affection lick across his muzzle before she darted off.

Athena scoffed when Zenobia said about not being as light as she used to be. "Blasphemy, you are just as light and pretty as the day we first met. I refuse to hear anything stating otherwise." He really would not even imply otherwise, let alone let others. He especially did not want one of the beautiful ladies saying such things about herself. That just would not do.
Athena licked her cheek and nuzzled her once more before he pulled himself up off his fluffy side. He got up onto his paws and shook himself off to get rid of any grass sticking in his fur. As, she went through her plan for hunting, he looked over at the spot she indicated for him to ambush her target. "That will work, but do try to be careful. I would hate to have my beauty get hurt."
He watched her dart off and chuckled to himself. Athena trotted off toward where he was to find his hiding spot and looked around. It seemed a nice little ambush location. He could hide in the grass right beside a rock and wait for something to be chased to him. And when it got there, he could just spring out, barrel it over and make his kill. Athena had gotten a bit methodical about it after all this time.

Zeno gave a laugh, "well it's gonna be if you really want fluffy butterflies." She teased the fluffy lion. It pleased her that he thought so. "Don't worry Athena. It'll be fine." She responded over her shoulder to his sweet worry. Right now she needed to focus, and of course there was a bit of danger in every hunt.
The pale lioness went out in stalk mode. She was scoping out the herds for a beast suitable. This would be a bit harder to get them running in the right direction, since she was all alone. Zeno looked for a herd that was already set to go in the right direction and would just need a little encouragement from her to get started. She creeped forward another 100 feet. Between several groups of wildebeasts she spotted what she was looking for; a herd of zebra already moving slowly toward the divot.
Stealthily she worked her way between the wildebeasts toward the zebra. Unknown to her, she'd been spotted by an agressive male wildebeast. He seemed to be stalking her as she stalked the zebra. When she was ready, Zenobia leaped up and took a swat at the nearest animal. It squealed and sent the herd running; she chasee after to be sure they continued past the spot where Athena hid.
It took her a moment to realize there were sounds of hoof beats behind her. When she looked behind her, her eyes grew wide at the sight of the wildebeast. "What the....." She didn't have time for more. Zeno swirved to avoid the slash of the bull's sharp horns. Why was he chasing her?! Briefly, she wonderd if the bull had thought she had a wildebeast baby. A knock from the horns sent her back end skidding around in a cloud of dust. Almost facing the bull head on she gave a roar to warn him off; hoping her bluff would work.

Athena crouched in his hiding place and watched the herds. He could not specifically see Zenobia as she crept along, but he also did not see any signs of trouble so far. He was a bit worried about her but only as much as he always was with his hunting partners. He hated the idea of putting others in danger to provide food, this was why he tried his best to do it himself if he could.
The big fluffy lion saw the movements of the bull and wondered about it. The rest of the herd seemed unconcerned, but it seemed like it was following something. The idea that it might be following Zeno did not occur to him at first because the idea of it stalking a lion and not just attacking was absurd, or so he thought. He did keep an eye on it while watching for the pray to be driven his way, though, just for curiosity's sake.
Athena watched silently and when the zebra all ran, he was ready to charge. He lost sight of the wildebeast as he charged forward and barreled over the first zebra to come across him. He got lucky and knocked the thing clear of the rest of the charging herd. It was not his smartest hunting move to pick the leader rather than the last one in the row. The fluffy lion made up for it by getting in a quick kill at least.
As he finished off the zebra, the dust settled enough for Athena to pick up where Zeno was. He looked up and saw the wildebeast, which seemed unsure if it wanted to leave the lioness alone or charge again. Athena left the barely dead zebra and when charging for the wildebeast. He gave the creature a good knock that broke one of it's legs and stood before Zenobia, roaring at the now downed creature and startling the herds around them to go running off in other directions.

It seemed in a flash Athena was there. Knocking the aggressive wildebeast off his legs and standing between them. She checked herself over; surprised to find no real damage had been done to her. Zenobia thanked her lucky stars for that. It would have been horrible for Athena to see it. She moved up beside him and purred. "Thanks Athena." A quick nuzzle for the fluffy lion.
Noticing the thrashing wildebeast she looked at him. "Did you manage to make a kill? If not, its not right to leave him in misery." She felt bad the bull had gotten a broken leg from the whole deal.
