Taryn was not expecting visitors, not that she ever expected visitors. This time she was especially under-dressed in an untucked button-up shirt and a skirt that barely showed under it. Books didn't care what she looked like, and she was only brushing up on her subjects before classes began. She'd be taking a whole night off to go to the prom, after all. She had to compensate.
The note that she had not yet left for Joachim sat on the arm of her couch, judging her for her nervous disposition. The first time she'd meant to leae it, she'd entirely forgotten, and so the second time she had backed out at the last second. Maybe she wouldn't be going to prom after all? but what a disappointment that would be for her date... potentially. She sighed, brushing some hair behind her ear and looking back down in her textbook. This was just a normal night.
...so far.

Joachim stared at the neat font with admiration almost ignoring its entire purpose. He had to admit he was glad that he wasn't the only one fond of such neat handwriting however if it was printing on a computer or done by hand he could never tell. The downside was the fact was it not only bore his name but the name of his date to the school prom. Taryn Marie Procopio. It was not a familiar name not that he was surprised but despite his typical lets avoid everyone behavior he felt the need to at least meet Taryn before the prom.
This bold idea did not come without his typical sweaty palms and the clicking noise of his heels pounding across the floor as he still paced the monster dorm. Actually he wasn't sure if he was in the monster dorm but by the directions on the insert Joachim assumed it was it.
He paused in front of the door that had the same number as the insert. Maybe she wasn't home, maybe she would be out... or worse she was the scariest looking creature he had ever seen causing him to panic and possibly run in fear, and as the thoughts continued the grim faced reaped knocked lightly on the door.

Taryn looked up at the door as if it had somehow wronged her, and honestly she had been startled by the noise out of total silence. She had no skellyvision in her room and music rarely played, so any sound was an intrusion, even the little thumps her neighbors caused every so often. Who could this possibly be? Was there some welcoming committee she wasn't aware of? Had she forgotten something? The chimera rose to peek first through the peephole in her door... which didn't exist. Jack damn it! She decided to open the door slowly, putting her face in the crack to see who it was as quickly as possible. She stopped when it was open only a crack. Who was this boil?!
"...Can I help you?" she asked, her voice coming out much weaker than she'd meant it to. If this boil was here to be mean to her, she could just slam the door in his face and call for the boogeymen. If he meant to be nice, well... then she'd...
What was she supposed to do in that case?

The door open only a crack as a face appeared, so far she looked cute but looks could be extremely deceiving.
"Errr greetings! I'm sorry to intrude upon you but my name is Joachim, I got this letter," he replied holding up the card that Riley had sent as to show proof he wasn't randomly being a creep. "I guess... I don't know if you got yours or not but I am your blind...date for the prom." Nervous? Oh no that wasn't obvious Joachim thought as he felt the need to kick himself in the gut every time he left a long pause in the middle of the sentence. If she had any sense she would shut the door in face or shoo him away because he was pretty sure that he was not very appealing date for anyone. Merel tugged on his hair as he tried to force a smile on his face though it was coming across rather poorly. Feeling the clamminess starting to form on his fingers he shoved one hand in his pocket petting one of his mice to try to ease his nerves.

Well, that certainly wasn't the way Taryn had imagined that name was pronounced. She had been almost glaring at Joachim before her eyes flickered down to his note. It certainly looked like the one she had gotten, and that was her name on it...
A wave of nervousness roiled up in the ghoul. She hadn't been at all ready to deal with her future date, she wasn't even dressed for Jack's sake! She looked like a hobo! For a moment she refused to open the door any further, but in the end decided that it was impolite. This boil had come to meet her, the least she could do was be civil. As she stood back and held the door open a fraction more, she also brushed herself off with her free hand and tried to straighten her shirt. This couldn't possibly be happening...
She realized then that she hadn't even invited him in. Oh, she was awful at this! Maybe it was best to not invite him inside, but she was being very rude and that wouldn't do. Her parents had raised her right. She stuck out her hand awkwardly for a shake through the opened door.
"It's nice to meet you..." Her voice still showed her nerves.

A countdown started in Joachim's head as she looked at him and the letter he fully expected the door to just slam in his face and his date... well no longer his date. Yet she remained at the door opening just a crack further. He must have really caught her at a bad time noting that she seemed to be pulling on her clothes and trying to smooth down her hair feeling more and more like a jerk for just showing up unannounced. His frown deepened as Joachim realized he should have probably sent her a letter asking to meet him before the prom this way they could at least talk without the whole awkward greeting at the door at prom. He couldn't say that this was going any better because it certainly wasn't.
He paid little attention to her not inviting him in, not that he would have gone in. His face started to turn a slight hint of pink with even the idea of just walking into some ghouls room that there was no doubt that he would have just remained standing awkwardly at the door frame.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well Taryn.." He shook her hand in return his face turning an even deeper red.

It was impossible to ignore the boil's prominent blush, and Taryn felt a little more comfortable knowing that he was just as nervous. At least he wasn't one of those big nasty boils, and if this was a prank he was at least going about it nicely. Still, she wasn't entirely sure she wanted a boil in her room with her dressed so strangely.
"Sorry to be rude, but just... um. Just one second--" The door closed to Joachim again, and Taryn was searching frantically for something to wear. In the end she only tucked her shirt into her skirt and looked even more like a frump, but at least one that took the time to tuck its shirts in. She opened the door again, half-expecting and almost hoping that Joachim would be gone. When she wasn't, she shrank into herself some and felt her face go hot. "Would you like to come in...?"

Joachim stared at the door as she closed it for a moment he could feel the itching in his feet to start running or at least embrace himself if she came out carrying some sort of angry creature to toss at his face. He folded up the note and put it back into his pocket fighting off the urge to just cram his hands in there and nervously pet one of his mice. Though she didn't seem too terribly awful, she at least apologized for closing the door in his face instead of just slamming it. Maybe she had to clean up? The thought reminded him that his own room wasn't very clean at the moment, he had left sheet music all over the floor and a broken teacup in the corner because Yaus and Merel got into a small spat over Merel's abuse of Phorum.
Then he turned red, if she was cleaning up that meant she was going to invite him in right? He would barely step into his sister's room then again that was due to the fact that all of the pink, frills, and other cute things sort of just creped him out. He furrowed his brow not paying attention to the door any longer until she opened it scaring him out of his wit for a moment. "Err sorry....errr.... I guess I should....." He stared his face going red again as he tried to get his feet to move forward while avoiding looking at everything she had in her room. It just looked more like an awkward shuffle towards the side of the door as if he was trying to shrink into the corner.

Even if he had looked, Joachim wouldn't have seen much. Taryn's room was minimalistic and immaculately clean, not to mention boring and silent. She might have been embarrassed if she had any idea it was unusual to find such an undecorated dorm room. Phoebe shifted on the desk, her leaves rustling softly as she recognized a new presence... or several, as it were. Taryn stepped back to allow Joachim in, and then turned to him again, hugging herself.
"Um." Unfortunately, the ghoul had no idea what to do either. "Would you like something to drink? Can I, um. ... you could sit down..." Clearly Joachim had caught Taryn entirely off-guard with his visit, and the thought that they should probably be talking about prom was lost on her. It would come.

It was clean and lacked clutter like his own room, Joachim had to admit he was rather impressed by it and a little jealous. All of his sheet music, biscuits, teacups, random mice beds and so forth could be found all over the place despite his weekly cleaning and purging. He took noticed to the small plant that seemed to be living on her desk a small shiver crept up his back reminding him of the man eating plant from one of the open house events. As long as he stayed away from it he assumed it wouldn’t be a bother, the really problem was his mice deciding that this new room they were in was a playground to run around.
His face grew a darker shade of red as she offered him a drink or to sit down. Waving his hands in front of him he tried to smile. “Errr….errr no no I am quite alright I am not thirsty and… I am ok standing if you don’t mind….” He didn’t know where to sit and imposing on her bed or floor seemed rude to him.
“Soooo… um…… err…. Prom. Would you like me…. To….errr pick you up here….outside of your dorm?” He had no idea how these proms things were supposed to work.

There was indeed an overstuffed couch, but it was against the far wall and would require entering further into the room to get to. Taryn was honestly a little put-off by the complete rejection of all of her hostly offers. Weren't you supposed to accept, or at least offer a 'no thank you'? She wasn't sure...
Well, either way, this boy was kind of strange. Maybe they had been paired together for their entirely awkward social graces.
"We can meet there, I don't mind walking," the chimera shrugged. After all, even if he came to get her they would be only walking. It was only then that she noticed that the odd shape atop Joachim's head may not be a hat at all. In fact, it seemed to be... moving? "What is... oh!"
Having leaned up for a better look, Taryn saw a tail and whiskers. Oh my! Abigail, previously at rest, snapped to attention and peered over her host's hip at their new guest.

Joachim didn't notice the couch or his own rudeness until he felt a bit of uneasy rest as a short pause lingered in between the conversation as the words that he had previously said scrolled through his mind. He had realized that at no point of his converstaion had he even bothered to say thank you for any of her offers instead he had merely brushed them aside as some ungrateful twit. He could feel his face flush red hoping that she hadn't been offended or even put off by him as he was digging his own early grave.
"Ok I will wait for you outside of the door then if you don't mind...... and thank you for your offers I am sorry I have been... rude I don't mean to be I'm just.....errr" He gave her a short bow in return with an awkward smile that could have easily been mistaken as a frown plastered on his face.
Merel squeaked as the ghoul noticed her and the and then a louder squeak as the green head of the snake appeared at the hip. Joachim winced as she dug her nails into his scalp, "I am sorry... I should have asked... or maybe told you.... this is Merel she is one of my friends... and a mouse... I hope you don't dislike them." He was more worried that the snake that appeared would send the rest scurrying around her room.

Oh! What an odd young man. Taryn was somewhat thrown by the bow, but at least he wasn't grinning like a wolf when he stood again. He hadn't finished his sentence, though. He didn't mean to, he was just...? Nervous? That would make two of them. Still, though, her attention was thrown mostly to the rodent atop Joachim's head. Why in the world did he have mice?! They were his friends?
...she was going to be murdered in her sleep, wasn't she.
"No, no, it's not that, it's just--" The ghoul broke her sentence in a familiar fashion and shook her head. Some reapers had familiars, didn't they? She certainly couldn't say she disliked them, even if they had been pests at home, and snacks for young chimera pups. She wouldn't bring that up, either.
Abigail, meanwhile, was following Taryn's train of thought and still studied the mouse, her whole body undulating ever so slowly. The movement could easily have been mistaken for a threat, but in truth the tail had no need to feed, being so connected to its host. It was merely curious as Taryn was afraid to be.
"You're scaring them," the ghoul scolded, finally realizing her tail's bad manners and trying to push her head back down. "Stop that!" Aside from the fact that Taryn was turning a darker shade of red, it almost seemed as if host and tail had no mental connection. Taryn had, unfortunately, learned better than that in her many years with Abigail attached to her rump.

“Err no no its ok….” Joachim replied feeling awkward and rather embarrassed that her own pet, or at least what he assumed was her pet considering his lack of monsters knowledge, was having to be scolded due to his own friends. Merel remained rather stuck to the skull of his head clinging on to dear life while some movement in his pocket of the formerly sleeping Yaus and Phorum stirred as if sensing some sort of disturbance. The last thing the reaper wanted was those two causing him even feel more of nuisances in the presences of his upcoming prom date. Prom, oh he felt more butterflies in stomach as he thought of himself attending it.
“Errr……” He replied shoving his hand again into the pocket where the two were stirring, Joachim gave another awkward half like smile. He felt more or less he should leave and let her to attend to her business without him causing disruption but he didn’t know what to say or at least not say it in a way that he sounded like jerk just wanting to run away.
“Umm…. What her… or maybe his……name?” Was all he could manage to fumble out of his mouth feeling stupid not knowing its gender by looking at it. He was completely unaware of her blushing when she tried to push it’s head back down he just hoping the heat that he felt on his own cheeks wasn’t the color that he thought it was on his cheeks.

"Oooh, this is Abigail," she offered, still blushing and pushing the reptile away. She could be a damned nuisance when she wanted to be, and considering the general attitude between snakes and mice it was perhaps worse. "She's my tail."
The ghoul could only hope that Joachim would take her explanation at face value. Trying to explain the relation between herself and Abigail was always a bit difficult, considering they were indeed two heads of the same creature, but basically disconnected ones. She wasn't sure that even she understood herself, but it wasn't something she had ever really considered. After all, this was totally normal for chimera. They all had this same disconnect. Why think too hard on nature?
"So... so we can meet outside the prom?" she asked finally, nodding as she spoke, "I'll try to be there right on time...
