Arcadius loped along a familiar deer trail, his pace quick and determined. He was not with his pack as he usually was and had not been with them for days, in fact. Hunting was harder as a result, but not impossible. And he would not settle for the snack a hare would give, or the easier meal a pheasant could become. He knew his own strengths, and did not waver as he continued along the well-worn route.

Still, it was rare for a wolf to drop the support and advantages a pack could provide. He himself did so not out of need or necessity, but desire. Many of the pack had produced litters as of late, but it was not a family he was looking for. It was pups, his own pups, ones he could easily shape during their growth. It was true he could have simply found others instead of producing his own, but their influences would not be as controlled, and their bloodlines would be questionable. He did not see parentage as Ralastor did, with strong bloodlines ensuring good offspring. It would have been hypocritical for him to think so, coming from a lowly, forbidden mating as he did. But he knew of the ailments and diseases that could follow a family, and he had a plan laid out for his future offspring, a plan that he would not leave up to the random chance of finding pups that were not his own. All he needed now was a mate.

But now, he was focused on making a kill, for he could do nothing if he did not survive. He pressed himself low, raising his nose expectantly when he came upon the herd. Already he could see an aged stag, limping from a wound in his foreleg, browsing nervously along the herd’s edge. He circled around for a better vantage point, preparing for the chase.

User Image Nose to the ground she continues on her tracking. This wasn't the first time Istas hunted without her pack. But it was the first for deer. Cirka were huge, and intelligent. But she was starving, She had traveled out of her pack boundries a few weeks ago, if just to clear her head, though it turned into a mini adventure as she began moving farther and farther from her "home"

Life was not kind to Istas, or that is how she felt, 'something must be wrong with me?' her mind often wondered while her eyes fell on the new pups that all the younger wolves seemed to be having, all the happieness, mating and new life was such a beautiful thing. But even after bringing Itsuke into IK, even after they realized they liked each other more then just pack friends. He had yet to make a move, leaving her feeling like she must be lacking in something. 'Why else would he not even try to mate me while I'm in heat?' In the confusion of it all Istas left. She wanted to just get away... away from Itsuke, away from all the happy go lucky mates and all the adorably yet obnoxious pups. Thus she found herself here. Tracking a wounded stag.

She stopped, ear's pirking up as she watched the heard carefully, having finally gotten close enough to see them all clearly. 'yep... he's on the outskirts... this will be challenging but not too difficult...' she thought confidently to herself. While istas might have a low self worth image. she wasn't lacking in hunting confidence, she was after all one of the most skilled draggas in IsraKaiya, Third only to Namia, and Eva their alpha.

With skill and elegance she maneuvered herself into the perfect spot. Never considering that other wolves might be hunting this same wounded animal, as she lept from her cover and moved into attack.

((Yeah lets get this ball rolling! =D ))

Arcadius was used to being patient. A successful kill did not come from a rushed attack, as years of experience had taught him, but a simple game of waiting. And, luckily, he did not have to wait long.

When the stag, focused on its grazing, took one step too far from the herd, Arcadius scrambled forth from his hiding spot, his gait silent and purposeful. At the same time, however, a blue form pelted near him, and he could see a wolf heading for the same stag. Its coloration was strangely familiar, but not one he fully recognized, and he snarled possessively as he approached his prey. The sound was enough to chase away the whole herd and startle the stag, who faltered where he stood. But it was not enough, and the stag began to run away.

Giving another warning growl, Arcadius turned and began the chase.
