Character Name: Navarre [N’var after/if impression]
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Craft/Rank:

History: Navarre was born in the Weyr, the second child of a family of five. As a child he was well loved and cared for. His parents were Hold-bred who had simply stayed after failing to Impress. He was told from a young age that because he came from such perfect stock that he would stand and Impress his first try. His father seemed to be trying to live vicariously through him.

His father, a man who had spent his whole life in the Weyr believing he would be a dragonrider and had always failed to impress, could no longer stand what he considered the injustice of being robbed of his birthright. A dragon. He started to lash out at his family verbally, taking his frustration out on them. When Navarre was 13 his family packed up and left the Weyr. This sparked a huge fight between his father and an uncle on his mother’s side, who had grown very fond of Navarre's younger sister and demanded that they leave her in his care. Their mother was mentally, emotionally and physically exhausted from dealing with her husband and his ‘fits’ and could not bear to stay and fight any longer agreed to leaving her behind.

This destroyed Navarre as he was particularly fond of his younger sister. He did his best to keep in touch with his Uncle, keeping tabs on her. Of course, it didn’t take him long at all to find that Hold life was boring. So it was with more than a little excitement that he noticed the search riders out on their most recent visit. Determined that he wouldn’t get left behind at the Hold, he did what he could to catch their eye, and prayed that he was candidate material.

Description: Standing in at 6’0” even, Navarre is easily the tallest person in his family after his father. He’s deeply tanned from his childhood years running around the Weyr. He takes after his father, with his long dark hair which he keeps tied back, but has the same stunning blue eyes as his mother and sister.

Personality: Navarre is a calm and determined man. There isn’t a lot that bothers him. However, messing with his kid sister is one of those things. He’s very protective of her, and the people that matter to him. He can also be a bit of a prankster, enjoying coming up with ways to make people squirm. Like most little boys trapped in a man’s body, he can take this too far at times, sometimes to a dangerous or hurtful point, but he tries to be mindful not too. That’s not to say he success at it or that he hasn’t left people angry or with hurt feelings. Its not that he sets out with those sorts of intentions, but N'var is so eager to keep people in good spirits, that he has a hard time discerning when it's too much. He left behind his share of people who despise him at the hold.

He spent so much time as a child in an unhappy and depressed environment that he wants the rest of his life filled with laughter and smiles. When things start to go wrong or get tough, he increases the jokes and pranks, his own way of showing panic. He has a terrible temper that shows when he thinks someone is being wronged or mistreated. Particularly when that person is dear to him. While it hasn't gotten him into serious trouble yet, he's had a few close calls and left behind some lasting enemies. Beyond what he views as injustice to others, only personal attacks against him or his loved ones triggers his temper. He'd rather make a joke and brush stuff away.

Its not surprising that Navarre is a people person. He loves to make new acquaintances and meet new people, but values those close to him most. Being surrounded by people is nothing new to him nor does it bother him in the least. He takes it all in stride. He's a confident man, but not overly so. He knows that he has limits and tries to keep them in mind. Growing up with a younger sister who had a shy nature, Navarre discovered his talent for being a leader at a young age. Its something he enjoys, but doesn't abuse. Group welfare and happiness is his first priority, which is what he focuses on when it comes time to make tough decisions. This isn't always the best trait, since he has put a person's feelings before anything else, and made decisions based on that rather than what would have been the responsible or correct thing to do.

He has a way of walking over the quieter people he meets. He hates taking no for an answer, especially if its something he thinks he's right about. Being the second-oldest child, he carries that air of being an older brother and likes to think he knows whats best for the people around him.

I know he seems rough still, so I didn't want to submit him just yet. I can't put my finger on what's missing or what else to add.

I was hoping you guys could look him over and leave suggestions!

A few thoughts for the time being ^w^ -

- How does he act in a group? He sounds like he'd be a gregarious sort, but does he like to try to lead a group, is he a follower, the 'class clown'/joker of a group? Does he like to have a few very good friends, or would he rather have maybe one or two best friends and then a wide circle of casual friends?

- He wants life to be full of laughter and smiles, so how does he deal with it when life gets tough? Does he try to shy away from difficult situations? Does it lead to him avoiding responsibility so that he won't have to make tough choices?

- What about flaws? I think being a prankster could be accepted as one if you take out some of the downplaying of not taking it to a hurtful point. It's fine for him not to mean any harm, but for it to be taken as a flaw it needs to do harm more than once in a blue moon: not every day or anything, but often enough for it to matter.

He'll also need a second flaw, and I'm afraid having a temper isn't allowed to count for that. Something like shirking responsibility? Laziness when it comes to working?

- On the subject of his temper, is it only seeing injustice - especially to those he cares for - that can set him off or are there other things too?
