Patrol was a roller coaster of ups and downs. Sometimes it was fun, sometimes it was boring. Sometimes it felt like routine and that killed the usual entertainment factor of punching bad guys. Turning youma to dust was still better than sitting at home watching the TV, though.
Leaping over a large alley, landing hard on a lower roof from the one he had leaped from, Chaonis huffed.
Not a single youma or nega spotted yet.
He dropped down into another alley, hitting the floor this time and looking around. He walked down to the end of the alley, peering into the empty street. No people. That meant nothing for the youma to hunt, he supposed.
Protecting the civilians was all well and good, but he half hoped they weren't doing their jobs too well. Who else would play the bait to bring out the fun baddies? Not the nicest of thoughts, but then, Chaonis was not the nicest of guys when he felt like it.

Talia had been running around town in her fuku, looking for something. The problem was, she didn't really know what she was supposed to be looking for. Negaverse, yes, but Talia wasn't sure she could take on one by herself.
Youma, certainly. She knew from ********* what those were, but so far she hadn't seen any, unless you counted the one she saw with Tony. Talia had been so ignorant back then! Thinking it was a machine.
Rounding a corner she spotted a dark figure running around on a rooftop. Well that looked suspicious enough. It was probably a youma, right? Oh God, why was she so awkward at this?
Luckily, the dark figure hopped down into the alley. Weird, she didn't feel any youma-y energy coming from it. In fact, it felt rather ... senshi-y. Maybe the youma was putting up some sort of front. Like a magic spell or something. Talia could easily believe in magical spells now.
Awkwardly, Talia stuck out her palm and said, "Uhm ... s-stop ... evildoer!" Then Talia remembered that youma didn't understand words. Right!
Then she did what any good senshi would do. Tackle the dark figure head on.

Chaonis came to a stop only because he did not know what to make of this palm suddenly getting in the way of his progress. He stared at the hand itself for a pointed moment, eyebrows lifted skeptically, then his eyes shifted to the owner of it.
He opened his mouth to make a pithy remark, but she jumped on him before any such witticism could escape his mouth. He let out a surprised sound, what had first been intended as the start of a cutting reprimand transformed into a half formed gurgle.
It took him a moment after hitting the floor, but he began to fight back. He was not going to hold back if someone attacked him. Even if he knew very easily that it was a senshi. He swung a punch for her jaw, just to get her off of him.
"What do you think you're doing?!" he barked angrily as he punched at her.
He also knew it was a girl senshi, which was just fine. She had tackled him first which meant she was looking for a fight. They couldn't just jump into a brawl and not expect to get punched in the face for it, right? She knew the risks when she decided to jump him.

Ohay fist. How are you tonight? You're aimed at my face? Oh that's chill.
SERIOUSLY WHAT? Draconis' vision went all fuzzy for a moment from the sheer force of Chaonis' punch. She immdiately flung off of him and slammed into the ground. Luckily, she stuck her arms out just in time, so her face didn't hit the ground as well. Her arms just hurt like hell. Great.
"Heyyy. HEYYYY." Draconis began to stand up as she spoke. Wow, senshi powers were cool. You could get punched in the face and still be able to get up. Neato. It still hurt like crazy, but she could stand.
Draconis was about to give Chaonis another hit, thinking he was some evil threat, when she noticed the lovely senshi aura that Talia had ignored thus far. Her fists immediately dropped. "Oh Goddammit. We're on the same side, aren't we?" Examining him, she definitely thought so. He wasn't in a frilly skirt like her, but he definitely screamed senshi. "Ah ... are you sure you're not a youma?" Maybe youmas had disguise magic? Probably not.
Shifting awkwardly from side to side, Draconis offered him a hand up and said, "You don't feel like a youma. Need help up? Sorry about that." Oh Draconis. Could you scream newbie any louder?

Chaonis got to his feet, hands still gripping into fists, his dark eyes settling on her. His expression was not amused, though one eyebrow was slightly arched as he regarded her. He knew she was a senshi, of course, but now it seemed she hadn't realized he was.
Now how did someone make that kind of mistake? She had to be a newbie.
"That's debatable," he said casually, "I mean, if you go around tackling your fellow senshi, maybe you're not on the same side as us." He didn't feel bad about socking her one, as she had deserved it. Even if hindsight allowed him to see that she hadn't known who or what he was when attacking, it didn't change anything.
"Of course I'm not a youma. You can feel my energy, can't you? That means I'm a senshi. Nothing that mind blowing about that. How you've managed not to get killed the moment you awakened if you can't even figure something that simple out is beyond me."
He was never particularly polite, but his level of rudeness was dependent on his mood. Tonight, it seemed, he wasn't in a good one.
"You are going to get killed out here. Did no one bother to teach you the basics? Don't power up if you don't know what you're doing: you're just making yourself a target. If you want to learn something, then I'll show you."

Uh oh. It looked like Draconis' lackadaisical apology wasn't going over well with the boy. She smiled though as she slowly figured out the pieces of the puzzle from his speech. So he was a fellow senshi. That much was good to know.
However, Chaonis' lines didn't go over well with Draconis. She was far too stubborn to take a scolding nicely. "You know, I don't like your tone much. It was an accident, let it go." She left her "argument" at that. No use crying over spilled milk after all.
But of course, Chaonis couldn't let it go, so neither would Draconis. "I'll have you know that I am a very capable senshi. I destroyed a negaverse crystal thingy, and a youma all by myself," she said matter of factly, glaring at him with a look that said "so there." Of course, maybe the bit about taking a youma down by herself was a bit of a stretch (Maenalus had helped), but she wasn't about to tell him that. It should also be said that her accomplishments were rather minor in the eyes of a super senshi like Chaonis, but of course Draconis didn't know that at the time. For her, they were a huge deal.
Draconis continued to stare at Chaonis with dark, steely eyes. He was just adding insult to injury now, but Draconis wasn't about to let him have that satisfaction.
"I am doing just fine on my own thank you. Now if you'll move out of the way, I have better things to do than argue with a numskull like you." Oh yeah. The 1700s called and they wanted their insult back Draconis. Internally, she was a tad worried by the things Chaonis was spewing; about her being a target and getting herself killed. She would learn not to do those things through experience though right? Not through some stupid boy scolding her. She crossed her arms and gave him a look that said, "alright, let's move it along."

"Golly gee wizz! A whole youma, all by yourself? Gosh, you must be one of the strongest senshi I've ever seen!" He mocked, his tone very clearly geared to just that. To him, youma were the punching bags of destiny city. Good for training and taking out some aggression on, but gloating about beating?
That was like saying she had managed to break a stick in two all by herself. And not even a big one.
The Super Senshi folded his arms over his chest and stared at her sharply. He shook his head and scoffed once he was done looking her over, like he saw something in her that just wasn't worth his time.
That was a stretch. Unlike some other senshi he had seen, she actually looked like she might be capable of something. But looks were always deceiving, and their fukus were not their own design. They really shouldn't be used to judge a senshi, like the cover of a book and what was written inside, but Chaonis was nothing if not vaguely superficial.
"Numbskull? Now that's just hurtful, Youma Killer," he said, pouting. His eyes, however, betrayed how amusing he was. He shook his head, not getting out of her way and holding his ground as she adopted a pose similar to his own. It was like "Here I am, offering to help you and all you're doing is giving me lip and calling me names. That's just poor senshi-ing, right there."

Draconis stomped her foot and her face turned red. "Don't <********> with me!" She was already sick of this kid. He didn't look more than a year older than her and yet he was talking to her as if she was two years old. Yeah, Draconis was new at this, okay? She didn't even know what being a senshi meant, and now she had to deal with this p***k? "I don't even know what the ******** "senshi-ing" is you a*****e, so don't lecture me about it like you're some great guru," she spat.
He was totally one hundred percent in the wrong, without a doubt. She was pissed, and unfortunately, Draconis always let it show. Her face was probably bright red with indignation, but she didn't care.
Besides, why was she doing the poor senshi-ing? He was the one insulting a person he had never met just for an accident (nevermind that she was doing the same thing...). Draconis was under the assumption that senshi were the good guys- they beat up youma and the negaverse and saved the world from ~evil~ and what not. If that was the truth, why the hell did some guardian cat pick this guy to be on their side. There was no way he was cut out for it! He couldn't even be nice to a girl!
Either way, Draconis was done dealing with him. Her eyes began to water up with frustration and she turned around to stomp away. She wanted to say a million cool things like, "Yeah, see you later loser," or even a straight "way she was showing him that.

"You have no respect for your elders," he sighed, tilting his head to his side, hands now moving to his hips as he stared at her impatiently.
At least he had found her button. Her limit. She was someone with a temper, which were a fun type of people to mess with. But they usually ruined the game with big blow outs, and since she was already cursing at him he imagined she would either switch into full on rage mode or notice her behavior and do everything in her power to pretend it hadn't happened and she was cool.
People were at their most interesting when they were angry. Sometimes their most honest. Not in what they said, most times: people could say very cruel things just for the sake of it if they were pissed off enough. But their body language, their strength, came out in their anger. Reckless ambition and the need to triumph over the person that has wronged them. It was a dangerous state to fight in, but it was a fascinating way to see someone's deepest potential.
They really let go at that point, and a good trainer could see that and adapt it.
He noticed her eyes reddening and watering and shook his head.
"Don't cry. There's not crying in senshi-ing, first thing. Look, I might not look it to you, but I have been in this game a while. If you can't handle some verbal barbs, what are you going to do when someone meaner than me, who is actually a Negaverse moron, attacks you? Cry at them, too, because you're feelings were hurt?"
He saw something in her, and was determined to drag it out, whether she liked it or not.
"Take a swing at me instead."

"And you have no respect in general!" Couldn't he at least pretend to be concerned? All he seemed to care about was this senshi business. Granted, it was important, but a girl was about to cry in front of him! All he could do well say "hey, stop that." What an assface.
She grabbed her sleeve and wiped away the little dots of water that had formed on the creases of her eyes. No need to cry in front of someone like him. He didn't deserve to see her weakness.
Who cared if he had experience? Experience wasn't everything.
The problem was Chaonis could say anything in the world at the moment, and she still wouldn't see any reason to it. She was grudging him ridiculous amounts. She was like a little kid holding a temper tantrum at the older brother who was holding the toy above her head just above her reach.
She stopped walking away though. He obviously had something to tell her ... or some bone to pick with her. Talia didn't like being picked at though. She daintily walked over to a stair stoop and sat down, her little beads and jewelry making a soft jingling noise with her movements. She took a moment to calm down by playing with her rings. She was being finicky, and didn't give a damn about it.
"I'm not going to hit you. As much as I'd like to, I am very far above that assface." Maybe she was against violence, but she certainly wasn't above cussing insults it seemed. As much as she tried to calm down, some of the grudging fury was still seething out of her after all.

Chaonis sighed.
"I don't mean 'hit me because I've hurt your feelings'. Show me what you can do. You say you're capable and I'm wrong. I want to see. You don't have to prove it if you don't want to, but if you have an attitude like that you're going to get yourself killed."
He moved to cut off her path, standing close. His eyes locked on hers and he grinned at her.
"Look, you've got some prickly little girl feelings, I know, and I've hurt them, sure. But that's not important out here, is it? You're a senshi, and I'm a senshi. We're fighting bad guys. Youma, Nega's. Bad guys. Actual bad guys. That will insult you, and then they'll beat your face in."
Chaonis' philosophy was simple. Every senshi needed to know how to keep themselves alive, first and foremost. Their beliefs and the things they fought for and why, that was all their bull. he didn't care what motivated someone, or if they even would fight, but if they were powered up then they had to be able to defend themselves to continue to serve whatever their own goals were.
And that was what he was there for. He would make sure they knew, the easy or the hard way.

While in most situations, Talia would've blushed to be this close to a boy, now it was certainly not the case. If there was even a hint of color on her face it would've been because she was so annoyed with him.
"Don't call them girl feelings you sexist little pig.," was all she could retaliate with. Regardless of whatever front she was putting up before, the fear of- as Chaonis so lovingly put it- getting her face beat it was starting to show. It was like he said, Talia had no experience with this, and he had all of it.
Sighing, she took a few steps back and said, "Fine, but I'm not hitting you. It's against my morals. D'you know what those are?" She finished off snootily to show that her grudge still wasn't over. Carefully, she placed a cardboard box in the alley in front of her, away from Chaonis.
Taking a deep breath, she made the sign of the dragon with her hand, and then a dainty diamond. With a deep breath she said, "Draconis, breath of FLAME." With the last word she exhaled and a flamethrower flew towards the box, instantly leaving a burnt whole in the top. She was only a regular senshi, so her powers weren't quite enough to light the entire thing on fire, but leaving a hole certainly satisfied her.
Feeling the power leaving her hands she said, "Th-there. See. You've seen my power, now let me go buttface."

"Your morals. Right. Those are the things that weak people have that keep them from doing anything fun, right? I saw a show about it on TV once."
He was probably clicking over it during commercials.
Watching her, he stood with his usual impatient stance, arms folded over his chest, head canted to one side. Only this time he wasn't grinning his usual grin, though his expression was very cocky. He watched her with interest, wondering if she always had to carry a cardboard box around with her for whatever it was she was doing.
His eyebrows lifted when she did a rather good impersonation of a flamethrower.
"I see," he said, though he noticed the whole box hadn't burned through. He could judge her power by that, and he grinned at her now at last. "That's a cool attack. Fire, I haven't seen that get used before. At least you have an actual attack. Most newbies I've been seeing just have distraction or defensive moves. Yours can be offensive."
He winked.
"Offensive is always good in my book. Now you might think I'm a buttface, but I'm actually pretty good at this senshi thing. I want to see that attack in action. In a fight."

Draconis kicked the box back over to the side of the alley where she'd found it in the first place. No need to waist, right?
Now was she supposed to be offended or pleased with that response? If he was mocking her, he was definitely going to get a fistful of Draconis. A big, whopping fistful. The wink didn't exactly help his case, either. Neither did the cocky stance. Or anything Chaonis was doing to be honest.
"Well that sucks for you, 'cause I'm not going to show you anymore. So there." She began stalking off again. She was done, done done.
But of course he had to keep talking.
Draconis' black curls flipped around gracefully as she whirled back towards Chaonis. "I bet you suck at senshi-ing! You keep saying you're oh so great and you're standing there like 'look at me, I'm ******** perfect,' but I haven't seen you do anything!" Uh oh, now she was cussing. This was serious business Draconis on the line, and she was calling Chaonis out!

It was rare that Chaonis wasn't mocking someone but, at least right now, he was actually being sincere. Enough, anyway. He did think her attack was powerful and interesting, because it wasn't one of the normal, frilly senshi attacks that weren't actually attacks.
He had never been good at RPGs. He didn't believe in spell casting or buffing or any of that: he just wanted a good, old fashioned fight. Blasting fire at someone?
Yeah, that worked for him.
He grinned at her, hands on his hips, head canted to the side at her challenge.
"Alright. You want to see what I can do? How about we make a date. You meet me for some patrol, and I'll show you what my attack can do. And you can put yours to the proper test. Unless you think a box is actually a worthy adversary."
