She waited till they were safe inside, till doors were locked and she was sitting safely...till HE was safely sitting too. He'd want to tend her leg...her hand. but there were things she'd have to do first. She couldn't be sure the bandages would cary from senshi to civi side... she knew they wouldn't the 'other way around'... so she waited.
She offered him her hand to let him pluck the splinters from it...and waited. "Before... you wrap that, I'll have to... to power down. I want you to realize that...it's my very life that hangs on the secret of who I am without this uniform." She said quietly.

He had tried to get her from the cafe to his apartment as quickly as possible, while trying to catch as little attention as possible to them at the same time. It hadn't been an easy task, but he had managed, more or less - at least no one had screamed and called the police on them, as far as he knew.
The first thing he did was settle her in a seat, and then he went to gather supplies. His mother had always nagged him to keep a full medical kit on hand, and for once he was glad for it. He accepted his hand and was about to get started with his tweezers when she spoke, and he looked up at her.
It made sense. Chris had said pretty much the same thing - and well, if these monsters knew who they were, wouldn't they be able to target them directly ? "I understand." He said with a nod, and hoped that Ume was okay. Maybe she just went home ?
Oh, was he about to get the shock of his life.

She bit at her lip, looked down, then away... and let her uniform return to where ever it came from. She wondered if he could see that rush of ribbons or the rest.
She worried most what he would say or do. She glanced up...shame faced to see his reactions. Would he hate her for not telling him sooner? She never told Caine before he vanished. She knew now he must have been a guardian cat...and if her planet was to be believed, perhaps he'd been hers, or related to the one her former self had once owned.
Now he was just gone like so many others... and she wasn't sure she could take it if Daniel was gone too.

...Turned out, Ume didn't go home. The ribbons and soft cloth vanished off her like an illusion, and there she was, sitting right in front of him. Ume had been there all along and somehow, he hadn't even come close to being able to tell.
She'd been there that night, he was now certain of it, ebony hair and blood red eyes.
And she'd been there right now, wielding her own blood as her weapon, and had paid the price for it - the price still evident on her fair skin.
Twice now she'd saved him. Twice now, if she hadn't been there... He might very well be dead. Who knew ?
And yet he'd never... He'd never noticed it was her. He didn't know that there was magic involved, did not even know that magic truly existed before what he'd just seen.
Daniel only noticed that he had dropped the tweezers when he heard the sound on them clattering on the floor.
"Ume..." There was something else he'd wanted to say, right ? ...Where was it ? Chris' reveal had been so sudden, so... confusing and in the midst of the youma trailing them, he hadn't had so much time to basically get lost in his own mind.
There was no screaming, no rushing out, no running, no telling her to get out, even - just a very deep sense of complete and utter confusion and Daniel looking like a deer staring at the headlights of a car.

"Daniel... say... say something." She said her voice trembling, how strange that she had never felt as afraid as she did then.
"Are you... are you angry? I'm so sorry.... I-I-I...." she stuttered and looked like she might start crying if he didn't speak.
"I didn't... I just... I don't know why but I couldn't not tell you." A tear slid down her face, her hands were shaking.

Say something, she said, and that was when he seemed to finally register, truly, what had happened, that Ume was really here, that it was really her.
He tilted forward, then, and pulled her to him, arms closing up around her, all but envlopping her. "It's okay." He finally said. "It's okay. It's... a lot to take in."
Indeed. He pulled her gently right against him, gently ran one hand down her hair without truly thinking about what he was doing.
And then, he finally said it.
"Thank you. If it wasn't for you, I..."

"I-I...I've never told anyone, Not even my family...I... " Her shoulders shook as her arms wrapped around him, she couldn't hold him well with the splinters but it didn't matter, all that mattered was the warm embrace but... it mattered so much it hurt. It shouldn't matter so much, someone she'd met such a short time ago.
"I... I don't even... everyone keeps vanishing, Everyone I care about, I just couldn't see you hurt too, I couldn't see you leave. My sister... there was a cat... he's gone. They just keep leaving... they never come back, I think their dead... I think their gone..." Her shoulders shook hard as the tears ran down her face. I don't know why I... I ... we haven't known each other for long at ALL but it does matter, you mater."

He let her speak, let her cry, not minding that his shirt was getting wet at all. Not understanding everything she had to say, yet doing his best, because... Because she was who she was, all of it. All of it was beautiful to him, down to the way she'd wielded her own blood like an extension of herself.
People might get creeped out by it, but not him.
"What... can I do to help you ?" He said, softly.

She laughed, it was a sad sort of sound but she really didn't know what else to do. She made herself sit back and bit at her lip as she fought the demi histrionic laughter. "I don't know... I don't know... I was so... I just wanted to make a difference when I... when I accepted what I was. Now I just worry I'm hurting people more than helping." She gave another hickuping laugh.
"...I... I finally heard we can save people from... from the negaverse, one of our oldest...she said it's possible and I was so happy, but now... now My sister is gone and I just feel like it's my fault... So... SO just... don't go... just don't go." She said brushing her good hand at the curve of his cheek.

He really didn't know what she was talking about. Negaverse ? Saving people ? Were they bad guys ? This was all so... completely surreal, the kind of thing he might have written, perhaps, but...
This was reality. This was totally, and utterly, beyond him.
"Im here." He said, still not letting go. "Im not going anywhere... Through we really should take care of your hand..." He'd nearly forgotten, he suddenly noticed.

She gave a hiccuping laugh and nodded, putting her hand back into reach and shook her head. "Stupid of me.... so stupid... I'm... my powers are just..." she shook her head and used her fingernails to pick out a splinter from her palm wincing. The splinter...oddly perhaps, vanished into nothing.
"if I were stronger... if I were better I wouldn't have to use my own... hair pins as weapons."

Daniel started to carefully pick the splinters of wood odd, through he did give a slight pause when the first bit he'd fished out promptly vanished into nothing the second it was dislodged from her skin.
Well... alright then.
"The greatest deeds often are the simple ones." He spoke, as if he was reciting. Because he was, through which specific story of his the passage was from, he couldn't recall by heart. "The greatest heroes... often unsung."
He looked at her then. "The truest angels... often second-guesses themselves."

"You'll make me cry again..." She replied quietly and stifled a small squeak as she flinched at a splinter. "The...real angels are the ones that hold us up when we fall down... or when we very nearly do."
"People like you... you're the reason people...like me fight."

It was the ages-old debate - which was most important, the hero or the rescued ? He'd written a paper on this once. Senior year, most likely.
He'd come to the conclusion that without the other, none had reason to exist.
There was a part of him, still, that longed to be her hero, but he knew that impossible. He was Daniel - not exactly full of courage and wonder.
And this was reality, not a fiction he could write his own way through.
He was doing his best to be careful, through it was obvious he was no doctor. "I think I got them all... ?"
