So she was a knight. Whatever the hell it was supposed to be. Beside completely awesome, that is.
Because seriously ? This was completely awesome. Forget grinding off ramp - she could jump off ******** !
Thrill of her young life, for sure. This had been her action before the monster came, then her goal changed.
It was quite simple. Hit monster with stick until it died. Simple, yes ?
The youma didn't take her clumsy attempts kindly - Hesperis was prompted back-handed right into a wall, and the dark skinned teen crumbled on the floor, dazed as the youma made it's approach for a tasty starseed.

There was a time in Lina's life when she would have sat back and watched the idiot newbie get eaten by the greedy youma. There were times like this, when she was the one being forced to intervene, that Lina might have missed those days in her life. There was a toying moment where she considered dusting the damn thing with the momentum of her fall but no, that would have been too easy.
The least this idiot could do was dust her own damn youma. Exasperated but not willing to have a death on her conscience just for being incapable, inexperienced, and mildly annoying, Lina simply dropped quietly down the side of the building. She could have perhaps dropped the thing from where she had been standing but that was not only grossly theatrical but slightly ineffective.
Twenty feet away Lina's Interference shot off and the youma stopped its prowl towards the glowing page she was guessing was one of her own. Mercury. "Don't you know how to do this? Or are you fresh too?" It wasn't really gracious.

Hesperis shook her head a bit, trying to clear out the blur in her vision - the monster had stopped coming toward her, that much she had realized...
And then she was spoken to, and purple eyes darted to the black shape in the distance. Black, blue, glowing blue, peach. All the could truly make out for a few seconds more before the dizziness finally went away, and she worked herself back to her feet.
Somehow, this person didn't... feel threatening. And she had the same symbol than her. Mercury, then ?
But even with her inexperience, she knew there was no time for that. "Im... fresh." She admitted, and looked peeved by her own admission. At least she hadn't launched into bravado. It didn't help that she now had a headache and a good inching that she couldn't handle this alone.
"Can you help me ? Please ?" Hey, the please always helped.

Well at least she wasn't making excuses. That was always a good start and it meant that there could be something actually made out of this girl. "You're Mercurian right? That makes you more my responsibility than ever and this thing is about to get up. I'm Lina." It was tossed over her shoulder as the fully-grown Knight stood between the monster and the girl. "The first thing you want to remember is that youma are at least as fast and as strong as you are. Sometimes stronger depending but if it's got two legs and looks like it can chase you, you need to stay on your feet and on your guard."
Already the beast was rising and shaking off the affects of the Interference. It was a damn shame that it was so short but this was pretty much the perfect example. Her scouter was indicating a basic youma of somewhat humanoid intelligence, which explained why it hadn't detoured to any smaller prey when chasing this page.
"Back up a bit please." It was a pleasantry directed at the youma as Lina reared up and kicked it in the torso, sending it flying back about ten feet. "I'm both stronger and faster than it is. You are not. I would try to take it out as fast as you can, but don't be sloppy. Try out what feels right and I'll make sure you don't get too beat up." But beat up somewhat was always worth the lesson.

So they were the same. Kind of. This girl was clealy more experienced than she was, however, and if anything, Hesperis knew how to fall in line. "Yeah, I am. Name's Hesperis." She almost said Darryl on reflex before thinking about it.
Having two names was confusing, but Hesperis felt just as true as her actual name was. A part of her, if completely new and foreign.
She nodded at Lina's statement, falling into stance beside her. It... wasn't much of a stance, really, but it was better than just standing like an idiot. If the thing came from her, then she was already in a decent position to bolt.
Try out what she felt was right ? Um. What felt right, anyway ?
And why a stick rather than, you know, a rocket launcher or something.
Nonetheless, she approached the fallen youma carefully, finding a dead angle on it's side and giving it a good whack there.

A blue eyebrow shot up a bit at the tapping of the youma. Odds are if she kept that up she'd just wake the thing into being rather angry. Usually Lina hated being right but right about now she was pretty sure that she was one hundred percent accurate. The monster was only too happy to oblige her mental batting average by raising its ugly face towards Hesperis and reaching out with one hand, swiping.
"They're not human though some of them look pretty close. They're all monsters fed by the energy of innocent human lives. Don't ever feel bad about dusting one because if you do, you save lives. If you don't dust it, it will go on to consume more and more." The annoyance had gone out of Lina's voice and there was nothing but firm lecture in her tone. The youma seemed to be appreciating her words, shooting a grin towards the knight and striking out again towards Hesperis.
"He wants to play with you. Knock him silly."

This wasn't what Hesperis had in mind for whatever came next, but this time she was ready - and backed out of the way as the youma reached out to swipe her again. No go, damnit ! She's tasted wall once and found it to not be that delicious. There was no need for another go.
This one did kind of look human... if human stepped straight out of horror movies. This one looked pretty much a given. The one that had attacked when she became Hesperis had actually been very much beast.
So if she didn't kill this thing, people would die. Seemed like an easy choice to make - Thing had to go.
The youma striked again, but this time Hesperis spun around and whacked as it's head the hardest a magically-enhanced 15 years old could manage.

Being magically enhanced did wonders for a fifteen year old girl. It was probably a good thing that Lina didn't know how old her rescuee was, else she probably would have popped an embolism and died right there on the spot. Younger and younger they were getting. Wasn't it bad enough that she had started at sixteen? Halfway to nineteen now and so burnt inside from everything that had happened.
She only had one kidney.
The power of the swing was duly recorded on Lina's scouter and the youma did indeed go staggering sideways. His head shook a few times to clear it before he staggered again. There was even a noticeable dent in the side of his head which was...new. "Again! And watch out, he's not going to give up." The human features were vanishing to be replaced with the beastly ones the bluenette had been hoping for; its intelligence was vanishing into rage.
However it also meant that Hesperis was going to have to be a bit more creative.

...There was a dent on the side of Thing's head. Uh.
Thing was also mutating like something taken straight out of an horror movie, which Hesperis assumed was bad news while her mentor thought otherwise.
She wasn't going to give up, through, that much seemed evident in her expression. "Oh, ******** hell, they're transformers."
More than meet the eye, right ?
Hesperis managed to dodge a swipe going her way, but then seemed to get the whole 'get more creative' thing on her own - used her staff as a pole to aim a kick at it's head.
So far, that had been where she'd done the most damage. Weak point ? Maybe. Her body was protesting, especially after hitting the wall earlier, but she couldn't give up now.

Otherworldly strength. It was the gift that they were all given when they sold their lives over to whatever power held its claim. Senshi, Negaverse officer, knight, it didn't matter. They all could do things that no human could do, take hits no human could possibly survive, and could wreak havoc on a poor youma. Hesperis' kick with momentum behind it in a move that Lina herself had used once upon a time, sent its head caving inwards.
It fell, twitched, and exploded into the fine dust that a youma became when it died. Walking up closer to inspect it there was seen a look of some sadness on the knight's face before she turned to Hesperis and held up her hand for a high five. "Good job." What else could you do or say?
Wasn't this high-fivey s**t the way to get things done? Her own personal experience with reward was to threaten an action and then not perform it as the reward. Example: I will beat you sideways myself if you don't spar properly. Somehow, she didn't feel this would go over well with the knights.

Thing went back and then was done and good and Hesperis landed on her feet, her breath having quickened a bit but otherwise in an okay shape... Forgetting the bruises from hell she was likely to start showing from her meeting with the wall earlier. A part of her cheek was already darkening.
The high-five was returned, but oddly enough Lina's thought were perhaps not too off base. Not with Hesperis anyway. Darryl used to be the terror of the schoolyards, when she was younger. She'd calmed, but there was still a part of her that loved to fight, even through Lina would have been able to hand her her a** on a silver platter.
"Thanks." She grinned. "Looks like you've been doing this for a long time, Lina." That was a compliment.
