The Black Lake is a huge body of water that can be found to the south of Hogwarts castle. A midnight blue of sorts in colour, its waters are chilly (but nothing compared to the freezing temperatures of Scandinavia). Some rocks can be found on its shores; a perfect towel rester! Known residences consist of mermaids, a Giant Squid, and grindylows amongst other ones. The lake goes by another name, its offical one: Hogwarts Lake—but that's rarely used now a days. The Black Lake is half a mile across in diameter and very long.
