Born to parents who were both Kirigakure hunter-nins, Matsuya was farmiliar with death almost from the moment he'd been born. And being around death brings things. Things that people know are there but chose not to speak about. Matsuya saw these things from a young age. But to Matsuya it wasn't strange or unnatural. The spirits he talked to were, for the most part, kind to him. They understood he was just a child and was curious as to who, or what, they were. One day Matsuya's life filled with death took a turn. An ANBU agent of Kirigakure came to his house, handed him a letter, a katana, and two headbands. The letter was from the Mizukage. It stated that his parents were killed in battle and that they were to be honored with the utmost respect. It also said that the Mizukage knew of Matsuya's ability. It said that it was not strange. Many people could talk to and touch spirits, Matsuya's parents being two of them. The headbands were his parents. And the katana was his father's blade of choice. He was 10 when this happened.

Matsuya went into seclusion for a few months to get over his depression. Then he enrolled himself in the shinobi academy. He hid his abilities, even though the Mizukage said they were normal. Real people wouldn't be as understanding as the letter he treasured and the spirits he spoke to. Matsuya quickly excelled at his jutsu and book trainings and somewhat in his physical activities. Then he graduated. That's where the story of the Spectral Samurai begins.....
