Valentine's Day.
Riven vaguely remembered last year's festivities. He'd been very, very little, but he could remember fingerpainting and getting Valentines from people... and the party at the HQ. Morion and Nyoka had dumped punch on his head, or something like that.
He certainly wasn't going to make the punch shower a tradition, but there was one thing he wanted to repeat - in a way.
Riven floated up to the door of Sundragyn's house and knocked.

Bronwen opens the door a crack and peers up at Riven. "Hi." She giggles.
"Bronnie, c'mon. Who's at the door?" Ray called at his niece.
"S'Riven."
"Hm? Oh. Him. Well, let him in."
Bronnie giggled and opened the door the rest of the way. "Glee's upstaaaaairs," she teased.

Riven nodded at Bronnie and floated up the stairs. "Ghlyssa?" he called out, looking around.

Ghlyssa poked her head out of her bedroom, and squealed. "Riven!" She came out, running barefoot to meet Riven midway down the stairs, pounce him in a hug, and snuggle. Her wings fidgeted excitedly. "I was hoping you'd come by."

Riven grinned and scooped her up. "Want to go out for a walk? Is your Guardian around?"

"I think she's still around. She must be somewhere." Glee blinked, confused. "She sort of disappeared. But I'd like to go for a walk."

Riven looked slightly uncomfortable for a second. "Oh. Um. Okay." He grinned again and gestured for her to go down the stairs ahead of him. "After you?"
Once outside the house, Riven stretched and looked up at the mostly clear sky. "It's a nice day. Want to go into the forest? I think the trees will wake up soon."

Ghlyssa nodded. "They will. They're just starting to wake up." She closed her eyes with a slightly goofy grin. "It's a nice feeling."
She put an arm around Riven and leaned against him. "And when the trees wake up, everything else starts to wake up."

"I don't remember spring that well, last time... I was so little," Riven mused, putting one arm lightly around Ghlyssa's waist as well. "Everything changes so much. It's so different from the Spirit Realm. Everything's the same, all the time, forever and ever. Sometimes things die. That's all."

Ghlyssa thought about this, and nodded. "The trees are always changing. The Earthkeeper never changed, but the trees themselves, and all the little plants... they're never the same. If nothing here ever changed, then, well, I guess everything would die. Death isn't... I don't... um. It's bad. But it has to happen. If nothing died, then the plants would stop growing, and everything would starve."
She paused after this little speech. "Except they wouldn't starve to death, exactly, since they couldn't die."

"It all goes around in circles, forever. It's good balance." Riven beamed, apparently approving of the way the natural world worked.
Then he sobered. "Um. Forever is a long time, right? Back... before I was reborn, I guess, I was around for a long time. I don't know how long it was. But it wasn't forever... and I guess if we become Ancients, then we'll be around for even longer." He squirmed a little.

"Forever is... a very long time," Ghlyssa agreed. She considered that, then ploughed ahead. "But we'd be... we'd be Ancients together. I suppose... I guess a lot of the Fa'e would die. That's not a very nice thought. But there would still be lots who didn't, and there'd be us. Right?"

"Yeah, that's right." Riven flushed, then slowly untangled himself from Ghlyssa. "Um... I know forever's a really long time, and I haven't been around that long before... but I love you a lot, and I want to try and do that forever. "
He fumbled around in his sash and produced a soft purple feather, tipped wiht some of the beads Ghlyssa had made. "Silver said you're supposed to kneel, but I don't have knees, so... um... Ghlyssa, do you want to, I guess, maybe try that marrying thing?" He blushed bright red.

Ghlyssa put her hand over her mouth, which had gone small and round. "... oh." She blushed darkly, while her mouth worked and she tried to get some mostly coherent words out.
In little more than a whisper, she managed, "Yes? Please?"

Riven grinned broadly and floated close, reaching up both hands to lightly braid the feather into her hair, along the side of her face - the same place where he wore her feather. The beads clunked lightly against each other as he did so. "Just for now," he whispered shyly. "After the weeding..."
He paused. No, that wasn't right. "Reading? Uh... WEDDING. Yeah. It's called a wedding. You give nicer things. We can mayeb have pretty feathers, the best, with all kinds of crystals and beads and beautiful things for the most beautiful Ghlyssa in the world." He leaned forward and kissed her.
