Rakai galloped around a meadow clearing, his long silver mane and tail flowing beautifully like liquid silver as he moved. There was nothing quite like a good run under the stars. His expression was light, displaying his contentment. The image of him moving through the tall grasses illuminated by the pale moonlight, was alluring. No one could possibly know that a cruel and cunning monster lurked within the heart of such a stunning stallion.

Ion was doing a minor self-scout mission. He came upon the meadow with the brightly colored stallion running within. Ion cocked his head, he had definitely not seen this horse before, he would have remembered the striking coloring. Ion waiting quietly in the trees for a moment, his dark coat camouflaged him pretty well in the deep tree shadows. he observed for a while longer and then purposely snapped a twig. He hoped to draw the stallions attention without scaring the daylights out of him. As a herd leader it was his duty to protect his king and his herd, not to unfairly attack unknown horses or scare them with out reason.

Rakai was aware of Ion's presence the moment he approached the meadow. Though he may not have seen him among the shadowy trees, he had a certain knack for sensing the presence of others. However, since he didn't seem to be threatening, Rakai ignored him and continued his relaxing circles around the meadow as Ion watched. His keen ears twitched, catching the sound of the snapping twig. He gradually trotted to a stop and looked around with his bright green eyes, as though he was searching for the source, despite having pinpointed it the instant the sound reached him. He started to slowly walk, around the edge of the meadow, eyes scanning the shadows the night had created. "Who's there?" He finally called out, his voice clam.

"Dark Ion of Equi' Amiticia," Ion called back and revealed his position as being just a little behind the other stallion. "And you are?" he asked pointedly but politely. This new stallion was strong Ion could see with a lot of speed. He would not be one for Ion to get in a fight with in the dark with no brother to help him. But if it came to a fight Ion would rely on his luck and his own skills if not his experience, he had little besides wrestling with his brother who was equal to he in strength. He was also far from Opal and that somewhat relaxed him. Tide was looking after her and when it came to life-mates his brother didn't monkey around....often. He shook himself. What thoughts the night brought on. He would have been less wary perhaps in daylights but was uneasy now for some reason.

Rakai gracefully turned to face the dark colored mare as he revealed himself. He was silent for a moment as his narrow green eyes scanned over Ion, as if sizing him up. Though Raki was strong, he wasn't much for fighting and preferred to avoid it. Though, not yet knowing this stallion well, it was best to get a good reading before taking any action. "Rayki." He replied simply, his voice smooth and fairly confident. His green eyes studied Dark Ion's every move as if he where searching for something.

Ion watched the new stallion warily. What was he looking for? Why was he alone? And why does my skin twitch? It wasn't that cold out. 'What brings you to this lovely meadow this fine night?" he asked. For some reason Ion didn't wish to come any further out from the trees as they kept him dark. Rakai knew where he was but Ion felt better with the shadows playing tricks on his eyes and Ion's dark dappled coat.

Rakai tossed his mane before answering the stallion's question. "I needed a good night run to clear my mind." His reply was calm and he no longer appeared to be scrutinizing Dark Ion. He was practiced enough to gather information about others without them even know it. He smiled charmingly, almost beckoning him to come out of the shadows. "What about you?" Rakai asked silkily.

"Searching for suspicious horses." said Ion. "And keeping an eye out." he said in a calm, mellow voice. " I like to run myself but I prefer to run in the daylight. Where do you hail from?" Ion asked. He stayed in the trees, instinct telling him not to move. Ion noticed the stallion had stopped his scrutiny but he did not relax. he didn't know why he was so on edge he had never felt the like before, even when the slug crawled up his leg.

Rakai snorted lightly and flipped his mane, which shimmered in the moonlight. "You seem like a good guy." He said in a silky, sincere voice. He gave him another charming smile, green eyes bright and full of life. "I like the night air. Its so cool and refreshing. Nothing quite compares to running beneath those beautiful stars." He said, voice smooth and casual. He was relaxed and calm, as if he already knew and trusted Dark Ion.

Ion pushed some of his misgivings back slightly and said. " They are beautiful. I will have to try it more often." He did notice however that the stallion didn't tell him where he was from and filed that information away for later use. The stallion seemed to mean no harm. "Tell me friend have you seen the moon lilies bloom this year? I think you would like them they remind me of stars and they only bloom at night in this area." he asked. This allowed Ion to be friendly and not harass the new stallion unfairly, while still keeping his guard up slightly.

Rakai smiled and turned his gaze to the stars. "Truly." He said softly, referring to the wondrous beauty that the sky held. He sounded as though he wished he could run through the sky rather than on the ground. Turning his gaze back to Ion as he spoke of moon lillies his green eyes sparkled with life at the mental image he drew. He knew of moon lillies, but hadn't ever had the opportunity to actually see them. "No, I haven't had that glorious opportunity to see the stars that bloom on the ground." His voice was still cool, but it quivered with the excitement that shown in his eyes. Ion had managed to find something that Rakai was actually sincerely excited about. Thought the only real difference between his true excitement and his fake of the same was that when he was really truly happy he didn't release such an ominous air. "Do you know where they bloom? I have always wished to run among the stars of the earth." he asked, his voice never wavering from his collected calm.

"Yes i do, they are not far from here, but I believe you will have to leave this fair meadow and follow me because moon lilies dislike open areas where the wind can ruffle them." answered Ion. He motioned behind him and waited for the lightning strike stallion to enter the forest. The lilies would probably enjoy the company and Ion could see that Rakai was genuinely excited about them. Moon Lilies were pure white with a few black spots and were quite fragrant beings. The sent drew the pollinating moths as well as curious Azrein. Ion had stumbled upon their cove in the trees by accident but had never forgotten their place after, as he hope to show his mate eventually. They caught the glow of the moon and seemed to absorb the light to glow from within.

Rakai's eyes sparkled, but the rest of his body remained unaffected by his joy. He may be twisted and evil but even he had things that he enjoyed and dreamed of. Things other than pertaining to blood and ridding the world of humankind. Rakai followed Ion eagerly into the darkness of the forest without any hesitation. Nor did he say anything, as if his words might scare away the flowers he had longed to see since he was just a foal.

Dark Ion slowly made his way through the forest to the hidden vale. As he emerged into the small clearing he was greeted with the faces of many moonflowers and allowed Rakai to come through after him. It was a spectacular bloom that night and Ion walked up to gently nuzzle a flower with the softest part of his nose. Fine yellow pollen puffed up in reaction to his touch so he was careful not to inhale, he walked over and nuzzled another flower allowing some of the pollen from the first to lad softly on the second. He was ensuring there would be another generation of these star-like lilies. They were a peaceful plant with no thorns but they were reputed to be distasteful when eaten. Not that any self respecting Azrein would eat one if they knew which flower it was.
