Some many, long years ago, a war of worldly proportions had erupted and threatened to consume the earth. Many different armies and countries vied for land and wealth; some forces split while others joined or were consumed by others. Just as things seemed bleakest, the gods were released upon the world...

These gods were not as one would imagine, however. They did not come down from heaven, nor rise from the depths of hell, nor arise from the seas, nor come down from mountains, nor the stars, nor the skies... They escaped. They were manufactured beings created by one of the largest armies fighting the war. They wanted to create the perfect soldiers, as it were. They used all kinds of specimens including those of 'mythical' species and used their forbidden sciences to give them abilities near the powers of gods. However, they quickly found that their creations would be no good if they didn't give them short leashes. They developed new beings, creatures whose souls they could transplant into the gods, who would be undoubtedly loyal to their cause and their orders. These souls would stop the gods if they ever tried to rebel and also gave them more power and diversity in battle. These souls came up with their own name, Parasites.

But, as these things usually do, their plans backfired. A god and its parasite decided that they had had enough of being controlled by twisted mortals. They destroyed the laboratories that had created them and set out to destroy the army that wanted to recruit them. All of the others had escaped as well, but they all had different opinions about the world's dilemma. The arguments escalated into fierce fighting. Two gods, one of light and one of darkness, found themselves at the very summit of the battle. But, luckily for the world, light prevailed and the world fell back into peace.

The war and its gods were forgotten in time.

However, they lived on. Generations had passed, only a few of the ancient gods remained, hidden away. Their children walk the earth, occasionally meeting with others like themselves. But something in the world is changing; Something is awakening. The world order is under pressure. War seems imminent.

And the gods are surfacing once more.

Setting: Small forests broke up the rolling plains and rice fields that spanned the landscape. A few villages are scattered across separated by miles of field. The world is now dominated mainly by humans, but other races blend in with the masses or gather in their own lands. The world is set in a steampunk type period. Airships fly the skies, electricity lights the towns, guns blaze, and your trusty steed is the most reliable transportation over land. Somewhere on the plains, two beaten, dirt roads cross each other; North to South, and East to West. The Nothern Road led to the Mountains; the Southern Road led to the Great Deserts; The Easten Road led to the Ocean; and the Western Road led to the Dark Plains: a forbidden place of darkness and decay. In the Dark Plains lay the strongest and most corrupt country, and deep inside lay the Enemy...
Rumors have been heard about a laboratory being constructed. A place greater than the one that caused the First Great War. Stories spread about earthquakes and strange happenings in the country of the Dark Plains... And the happenings have an epicenter, The Capital.

Intro Setting:

A small plains town called Crossroads. The town sits directly upon wher the north, south, east, and west roads cross. The roads themselves were dirt roads outside the town and cobbled inside its boundries. Everything a person could want was set within a 1000 feet of the epicenter. It has a couple of inns, a tavern, a bakery, a convenience store, a weapons store, a meat shoppe... everything.

Every now and then an earthquake can just so ever slightly be felt in the West.

Jamie sat in his favorite corner of the tavern by the firepit, eyes closed, looking almost swallowed by the strangely comfortable padded chair. He had a half full bottle of scotch in front of him, an array of cracked knives and busted guns laid out in order of repair, and the remains of a couple cauterized wounds scattered under his tattered shirt.

It had been a mostly successful day of work.

**OOC**If any of you are thieves, he has a bit of chain lightning running through his coins and coin pouch. It's not enough to be visible, but it is enough to give a nasty shock if you try anything.**/OOC**

Telaer smiled softly, his eyes closed. He was just barely swaying slowly back and fort, his fingers picking at the strings of his harp. He had been employed at the tavern for a short while, and the pay was fair. The occasional tip from someone listening was also helpful. As he played his music, Cuddles was sitting down at the base of Telaer's stool. The little cat was swaying too, calm with the music. Cuddles let out several soft mewing sounds, perfectly on tune with Telaer's harp. This was far better than the old days.

Arliss closed the door quietly behind him, sure not to wake the young sleeping body inside. When they woke up, all they would have was a few pieces of change and the memories of a wonderful night. "You're quite the b*****d Mister Arliss." Mushi swooped down, hooking himself to the pirates hair.

He tried to shoo the bat away, but instead grumbled as he jiggled door knob of an empty room, coughing loudly, he jammed a rusty nail in the lock as he shoved it hard open, breaking the lock. "You need to learn to pick those locks Mister Arliss."

"Friggin bat..." He muttered, trying to ignore Mushi's thoughts in his head, which hurt a little bit from the previous night.

"You also don't need to be breaking into a room for a nap. We both know you could easily pay for one."

"Stop preaching you bloody pest." He grabbed the bat and gently pulled him off his hair as he closed the door. "Just keep watch in case someone comes looking for me." He set the tiny bat on the door sill and walked off to slump in the bed for now.

Claire had been the barkeep of the Crossroads tavern for some time now. She stood at the front counter with a yellowed dishtowel polishing out a thick-walled glass. Tonight she had only three customers so far: Some sort of weapons master, a drunk young man upstairs, and another man upstairs. She rather liked the harps-man she had employed not long ago, he seemed rather nice and the music certainly added a quality many taverns were lacking in. The cat was an odd little thing, its eyes betrayed certain level of intelligence unlike any normal cat. She glanced down at the glass and sighed softly placing it back under the counter and grabbed another one from another section. She didn't have much else to do; she had finished all of her previous chores while the place was empty during midday.

A mental picture flashed before her eyes, that of fire and a single large golden eye. She stared into the middle distance while pretending to be staring at the glass

Her eyes focused back on the glass, which she had stopped polishing momentarily. She set the glass back in the counter. Images of war flashed through her mind. The whole town was tense. She had felt it everywhere else, and finally it had reached here. She leaned into the counter with arms crossed and stared into the distance, wishing the simple days could have lasted longer.

When Telaer finished his song he opened his eyes and set his harp on the floor next to his stool. He knelt down next to Cuddles and lowered his hand, palm up. The small cat walked onto Telaer's hand and then hopped up onto the man's shoulder, content with sitting and letting Telaer do all of the walking. As he made his way to the front counter he smiled at Claire and gave her a friendly nod. "A bit of a slow day so far, isn't it Miss?" His smile was weak. Recently he had been able to feel... something. It was a feeling that brought back memories of the War, and he didn't like it at all.

Cuddles could sense Telear's worry, and snuggled up against his face, letting out a small mew. The little cat could sense it too, better than Telaer in fact. He knew something was wrong. It was only a matter of time.

Mushi had been rambling on for the last minute or so about how he was a dirty b*****d, and how he should have left a letter or something with the guy he left in the other room, and that he was stupid for drinking so much the night before. Arliss, finally getting fed up with the bat, decided he would roll out of bed and see if he couldn't get a drink or something, which the bat said was a stupid idea.

Stumbling down the stairs a bit, he sat himself at the bar and made a motion as if he was going to get a drink, but ended up sitting his head on the counter and sleeping. It had been a rough night, and he was still wiped out. Not to mention his head from all the drinking. Mushi fluttered down and hooked himself in Arliss's hair, continuing on about how he was just miserable to be with, making Arliss groan as Mushi's voice droned inside his mind.

Jamie cracked an eye open to stare at Telaer, and then Arliss. There was something familiar, yet not familiar at all about them. And that cat...that bat...

Sensing Jamie's trouble, she whispered in his mind "I know what you are thinking. Do not do anything. If there is relation, they will approach you. If you approach them, hostilities could very well ensue. Watch. Wait."

Jamie sighed and took a swig of his scotch. He then leaned forward and polished the few knives in workable condition he had looted, all were still in sheathes at the end of the fight, and carefully watched the two, occasionally glancing between them.

Claire blinked herself out of the trance she had fallen into. She had been staring so hard at nothing that she had been thinking nothing. "Hm? Oh, yes, it's been quite a slow night. Probably the slowest I've ever seen. If you want to go ahead and retire early for the night than you can. Not much point in serenading the air, hm?" She smiled a weak smile, too. He was tense. She had never really seen Telaer tense until lately. And his cat. The cat's eyes seemed to glitter with the knowledge. Just then someone stumbled up to her counter from upstairs. She sighed softly and was about to ask him what he would have to drink, when the man fell asleep on her counter. A small bat was hanging from his hair. "Quite an odd fellow...", she spoke softly toward Telaer. She had also been keeping an eye on the weaponsmaster man in his squishy chair. He seemed dangerous to be so quiet, but she paid him no mind the same.

At this time a slight earthquake can be felt coming from the West. It lasts at least a minute long, and grows with enough intensity toward the end to rattle all of the glass in the bar, but nothing falls.

Arliss sat bolt upright when the glasses rattled. He felt something, something he had never felt before. It felt foreboding... And familiar, though he didn't know from where. "Ignore that." Mushi said to him, feeling it too, "Just ignore it... It's nothing you need to concern yourself with, just order another drink." The bat nestled defensively into his hair as it mulled over what he had felt, it was something he didn't want Arliss to be near.

The pirate knew something was wrong though, Mushi never suggested that he drink. He always told him the opposite and scolded him. Never the less, Arliss held up a hand and said, "I'll take a cheap dirty beer."

Claire stood her ground and let the earthquake pass. "Damn I hate these things. If they get any worse I'll have to tie everything down to keep it from falling." She gave the man at the counter a cold smirk. "Our beer is cheap but never dirty. Besides, I'm not sure I can serve you, you're drunken enough as it is." She braced both arms on the counter and stared him down with firey eyes.

Jamie calmly braced his bottle under his arm as he heard the rumbling start. He then proceeded to steady the weapons on the table with his hand and other arm, going back to his previous position when the earthquake stopped. <Gah...I hate the earth...what a stupid element...>

"I aggree, Jamie. But unfortunately, many things rely on it." he could almost hear her glaring at the ground. "That's why the world is called Earth."
PostPosted: Thu Jul 07, 2011 9:00 pm
Arliss stared back, "Now miss, I take offense to that. I am not drunk, I am hung over." He punctuated this with pointing at the counter for no reason. "I am also very sleepy. A cheap beer would be tops right now." Mushi started to talk again, so Arliss reached up and grabbed the small bat, gently placing him in his pocket. "They're so hard to train right." He smiled, patting the pocket a little harder then he should.

Mushi growled in the pocket and bit through his shirt, striking a n****e, causing Arliss to cry out in pain as he flew off to the corner of the room. Arliss grabbed his chest in pain as he slid off his stool. "Ow..."

Claire rolled her eyes at the man. As the minutes ticked by she was getting more and more aggitated. She absolutely hated staying in one spot for too long, which is why she had confined herself to this tavern gig in the first place. Not to say she didn't like it here, but she hadn't left the area in around a month, and she was beginning to feel the effects of it. Which only made her more upset, because she was stubbornly sticking to her plan, no matter how crazy it was making her. It was the dull moments that really got to her... One moment she'd be staring into nothing, and the next she was picking fights. "Hung over at *night* no less... Oh well... as long as you pay up I guess I can't tell you no." She turned to one of the kegs lined up against the back wall and procured a tall, frothy one, and slamming it on the counter in front of him. "Here you go sir, and while were at it, why don't we all get drunk right before the world ends?" That was the rumor at least. There were lots of versions of the rumor: A volcanoe large enough to swallow the country being born, the gods rage, yadda yadda, etc. etc. It was following the same pattern as last time. Chloe suddenly burst into her thoughts, Claire frowned when the bat he had placed in his pocket bit its owner and flew into a corner of the room, but smirked again when the man fell onto the floor. "Serves you right... What about you over there Mr. Weapons' Man? For few coin, you too can get completely wasted before the world comes to an end..."
