Oak trees were good for two things, casting shade and sleeping under. With enough of them around sleeping in the shade for a full day was entirely possible. Perhaps that was what had drawn the stone colored stallion so far north that day. Ordinarily he resided close to the bend in the Eastern river that brushed what was known as the Aa-wa-u-s-di Plains. It was his job to look after that bit of river for his family. As he could see that the river was not planning to run dry any time soon he frequently wandered off to other areas whenever he fancied.

Today he had fancied a stroll out of the hot sun and in to the refreshing shade the trees offered. He had found in his trip a forest full of large leafy trees that blocked out the sun. Somewhere a bit further upstream he new there was an entire grove full of nothing but these monstrous oak trees. He hadn't felt like walking until sundown to get there so, after taking a drink, he had settled himself by a nice shady oak that grew by the river and dozed off. Could life get any more wonderful?

Yes, it was entirely possible that life could, in fact, get better. Perhaps on colorful wings akin to tropic birds. With a soft impact and nimble hop the pale mare came to ground on the edge of the vast forest, slitted pupils staring bight and intently within the shady groves of thick trunks and plush foliage. It was a lovely sight, though the lack of humidity did call to mind feelings of vague homesickness. She ignored them, happy with her decision to wander away from the jungles to the west. A chance to grow, a grand adventure. It was an eagerness and craving towards the unknown that had propelled the decision.

Thus far she had not regretted it. There were times though, when she came across something unique though altogether familiar, that she did go a bit nostalgic. She missed her sister, the one thing she would have happily brought along with her on this little journey. Ah, should have, could had. She'd tried to convince the younger to venture out with her, but hadn't pressed the matter.

Dwelling did neither of them any good though. So it was with an eager smile the mare entered the forest. Rainbow wings stretching one last time before folding tight along her back. The slender length of her tail flicking from left to right with every quiet step. She had no aim, no destination, merely a wanderlust that continued to drive her forward into the unknown. Sliding through heavy shadows and cool pockets of brush as she marveled at the similarities and differences she found in this place.

She didn't notice the dozing stallion nearly lost in the shade of the thick tree. Not until her hoof had caught the scaled length of his tail, stumbling with a cry of shock as she pitched forward. Falling directly on top of the monochrome Kirikalona.

Roarke had just started to dream a wonderful dream. A dream of green fields and hills, blue skies, red apples...and girls! What more could a guy ask for? He had just begun to saunter over towards one of the lovely ladies when something odd happened. Something nudged his tail and not three seconds later there was a shocking weight on top of him.

His eyes shot open with a sharp intake of breath as he was jolted out of his nap. At first he struggled to get his eyes to adjust while simultaneously making an attempt to figure what had just happened. It proved to be a bit to much for him. So when he caught sight of the bright plumage attached to a stark white body instead of making some witty comment all he managed to sputter was an intelligent, "Whossawhat?"

He frowned at his lack of coherency. Obviously he needed a little more time before he would start making sense. At least he could try to get a better look at what had hit him. He shifted and stretched his neck to get a better look and determined swiftly that he might very well still be asleep. That or his dream had come back to the land of the waking with him. The culprit was a mare and a pretty one at that.

"Well hello there." He said with a bit of a slur and a dazed smile to match.

Slender legs had flailed briefly upon landing but slowed to a stop as a groggy voice muttered near her ear. "Whossa..?" She echoed back at him, voice softly amused as well as puzzled. A foreign language perhaps? Just her luck. Ah well, there was more to a meeting then communication. Lender tail flicking gently, the mare tipped her head back to peer at the stone colored stallion she had landed on.

Quite monochromatic, but not dull. Dark, sweeping horns sprouting from a thick mane of silver fluff. It seemed to follow the line of his body, so far as she could see, to end in a voluminous tuft at the tip of his tail. Oh, and the delicate points of fangs peeking below the line of his smile, mustn't forget those.

And apparently not so foreign after all.

Slitted eyes narrowed just a touch but the peaceful smile that had wormed it's way along pale features remained. "Hello yourself. Sorry to crash in like this. I do hope you don't mind." It seem as though he did, so Mera was in no hurry to disentangle herself from him.

Half asleep he may be but not even then did Roarke miss that she'd given him the quick once over.

"Not at all." He replied feeling the fog left over from his sleep fading away more quickly now. Perhaps one day he'd find a way to be instantly alert after waking. That day would probably be a long way off if it ever happened. Besides, things always seemed so much more interesting when only half awake, very surreal.

"Now," He began finding a way to lay so that looking at her was more comfortable. "What brings a pretty little thing like you all the way out here?" And she was pretty. Pretty and exotic. Pretty exotic. He smirked inwardly at his own thought process. It was every day that a stallion encountered a lady that resembled a cross between an albino serpent and a tropical bird though.

"Trouble in Paradise?"

Well, if he didn't mind her being there then she wasn't going to be in a hurry to move. For one it would have taken a bit of rolling, a bit of ruffled feathers, and a bit of awkward shifting about. And for another thing she didn't really feel all that inclined to move. Why should she? She couldn't have picked a better stallion to stumble onto, literally, then the once Fate had placed her on.

There was a small bit of shifting between the two. His desire to maintain comfort while watching her, and her inclination set upon folding a slender leg beneath her, long tail sweeping around to curl around her hip. Comfortable, she turned her head to smile at him. "Already with the compliments? Well aren't you a charming thing." Clearly she didn't mind.

As far as her reasons for being there, she wasn't sure how to answer him without going into a long story, so she settled for a simplified, albeit slightly cryptic response. "No trouble to speak of, things had grown boring back home. A change of scenery was required."

"And how about you? Do you hail from this region, or are you visiting as well?"

Roarke chuckled. "I only give them when deserved, you know." Was he trying to be charming? Probably and he was glad that he was succeeding. What a blow it would have been to be told he wasn't being cute or something of that nature.

He then opted to do something that always seemed to go over well with girls and other people in general: he actually listened to what she said. Luckily she didn't seem to be the type to give every detail of her life because he wasn't sure he had it in him to listen to a tale that long.

"Ah, well no, not really, you see," He said straightening up somewhat, he hadn't realized that he had been drifting down towards to the ground. When had that happened anyway? "I am much like you, darling. I was out for a bit of a walk to beat the heat and see more of the sights as it were. I actually come from a bit downstream of here. Never actually come up north like this." He gave her a toothy grin. "And what lovely sights there are."

The stallion had better be careful with that silver tongue of his. If he continued to compliment her in turn he was going to earn himself a bit of an admirer. Though really, why not? She had no where to go, no destination in mind, and not only was the male charming, but quite interesting as well. She grinned back at him, her own dainty fangs catching the defuse light that managed to filter through the thick canopy above.

"A little bit of wanderlust, hmm?" Pale brows rose as lids slid lower. Like her indeed, though not quite so far from home. "A walk and a nap," she corrected softly, shifting a bit more against him so she could rest her chin on his side, slitted eyes rolling up to watch him. "And you don't say? Lovely sights?" Bright eyes narrowed, but the grin the stretched her lips was knowing. Oh yes, most certainly a charmer.

"Interesting floral and fauna?" Bright feathers twitched at the end of her tail. Ruffling some before smoothing back into their sleek fan. Was she fishing for further compliments? Quite possibly. The words just seemed so much more alluring when said with whatever foreign inflection resided in his voice.

"Mmm, something like that, yes." He met her lidded gaze steadily with humor. "And don't knock it. There's not much better than a good mid day rest." Perhaps that was a lie though. He could think of a good bushel of things that were better than napping. Pretty, dainty things. Feathered things. With scales.

"Oh, I do say." He countered letting his eyes slip shut with casual confidence. "The fauna, I've found, is the most interesting." His eyes opened once again to admire here feathered tail. In many ways it was like his own in length and shape but where his was rough with scales hers was sleek and instead of tufted hair she had feathers. "For instance," He said turning his gaze away and nodding up into the trees. "When I arrived a pair of squirrels were chasing each other in the boughs. Then there are also a great number of birds in these parts, in all manner of size, that flit about."

He took in a breath before looking back to the mare resting on him. "I've found the larger birds to be most fantastic, though they do have quite the unusual habit of falling on unsuspecting fellows."

Her chin rubbed against his side as she turned it just enough to rest her cheek against the slate grey of his side. All the better to watch him, even if all the talk of noon-day napping was making her painted lids heavy. "Knocking? Oh no, I wouldn't dream of it." Tone, albeit exaggerated, suggested the very implication was scandalous.

Dragging her tail around to curl loosely along her side, she let the feathered tip brush lightly against one of his forelegs, twitching periodically like a lion relaxing in the sun. Content to lay there and watch him talk, even if all he was saying was silly little stories about squirrels and birds. Oh wait.

"Yes well, some unsuspecting fellows look suspiciously like stone formations in the shade." She wasn't apologizing, seeing absolutely no need for it. "All the better for perching on, you see." Or lounging on. Really, he was quite comfortable. Not at all like the rocks his body resembled. Warm and soft, fairly easy on the eyes. She didn't generally toss things up to luck or fate, but she was tempted to consider the possibilities in this instance.

"Ah, then it's all my fault then!" He replied good naturedly. In reality it was no ones fault. It could all be chalked up to circumstance. "Though, it must be said that you have an unusual way of perching." Roarke drew his tail out around her to lay it on the ground before him. If he were to lay his head down he would be able to complete a circle. "Most birds try to stay on their feet." He winked at her before turning his head to look downstream.

To think that he would have missed all this if he had chosen to stay at home. What a shame that would have been. "Though, I suppose you aren't a regular bird." He glanced back. "Regular birds do not have horns you know."

"Be that as it may," she began, eyes falling closed. "Most birds do not have the sense to know when to kick back and relax. Specially when they've found something comfortable to recline on." One slitted eye opened to look up at him. Grinning lazily as he noted her uniqueness. "I should hope not. I like to think I fly against the flock." That was an understatement. "And no, not usually."

The one bright eye fell closed again, and she drew a deeper breath, letting it out slowly as she relaxed against him. He was a stranger, but he was a nice, charming one. That did remind her though. "So do you have a name, charming Mr. Rock?" She probably should have asked him sooner, but she'd been caught up in the banter.

A twitch of her shoulder allowed her to pull the wing she'd been laying against free from between their bodies, and she stretched it out, feathers trembling as they spread wide, before laying it along his hip and rump. If they were going to remain there a while, and it was looking more and more as though that was going to be the case, then absolute comfort was required.

So, she was as much of a free spirit as she looked. It was good to know that sometimes looks weren't so deceiving. He had never really flown against his flock, to use her terminology, but that was mostly because the trail he was going down was nothing that he didn't want to do. "It's a good thing though. Both the birds being mostly hornless and you flying against the flock or else I fear I may have been swamped but lovely feathered things by now."

Almost on a whim he decided to draw his tail a bit closer to her as she eased into him. "I do have a name, darling, and you're not far from guessing at it." It was almost comically ironic how close his name was to the word 'rock' when accompanied by his accent. "I shan't leave you guessing though. That would be rude. My name's Roarke, dear, and you would be?"

He didn't have wings nor did anyone in his immediate family. The sensation of feathers ruffling the hair on his back and bushing his scales and hair was unusual and caused him to tense slightly. It wasn't unpleasant, far from it, but it would take some getting used to.

She laughed softly and the image that popped into her head of the stony looking stallion covered in birds of paradise. "Would that really be so bad?" She cracked an eye at him, lips pursed. "So many pretty friends." She wiggled a scarlet brow at him before letting her eyes fall closed once again.

The irony of his actual name was not lost on the feathered mare. "It suits you," she agreed, tail tip continuing to twitch against his leg. "More so then my own. I'm Mera."

The thread of tension that sung along his muscles made her blink, glancing up at him again then rolling her eyes towards where her wing was resting on him. Features falling into thoughtful lines. It was an odd response, and she couldn't quite help but give the colorful limb a small twitch, tracing the line of silver fluff along his back.
