As he had promised, Sheridan had gone on a search after leaving the library, looking through playbills and various other sources to find the Stakespear company in town. It hadn't been as hard as he had feared, and by a stroke of luck (good or bad, you be the judge), said company had recently opened their production of Groady-o and Boo-liet.
After speaking to Petro and settling on a date and time, Sheridan had purchased a pair of tickets. Tonight was the night, and dressed at least neatly, Sheridan was making his way through the monster dorms to find Petro's room.
Raising his hand, Sheridan knocked on the door.
"Petro, you ready?"

The tikbalang had not done much in the way of preparation for this little excursion into town. He had managed to set aside a few extra pumpkin seeds in case the prices of things were in the realms of extortion, but anything regarding his attire? No such thing was done. He did, however, go through considerable length in maintaining the neatness of his mane. Even he knew he needed to be presentable, and with Prom just around the corner, the emphasis on his appearance was all the more pronounced.
When he heard the knock at the door, followed by Sheridan's voice, Tro was quick to answer, "Yeah, 'm ready!" After giving some final instructions to specific minipets, spoken in his native tongue, the horse boil started out of the dorms together with his friend. "What time's the show? I ain't late, am I?"

Sheridan shook his head, tail flicking behind him as he stepped away from the wall he had been leaning against.
"No, we're not late."
He had made sure they had enough time, choosing an early enough time to meet that they wouldn't have to rush or risk running late and thus missing the first act of the show. They might have even had time to stop for a snack if the theatre allowed food. Well maybe they could have something at intermission.
"Shall we?"
Double checking to make sure he had the tickets in his pocket, he paused a moment to make sure Petro was with him before starting down the hall and out of the dorms on the path toward town and the theatre.

"Great! Wouldn't want to have to make y' go to town with me for nothing," he grinned at his friend. "Y' ever venture to the Maul much?" Tro was not trying to make small talk as they headed to the theater. No, really, he wasn't. He was genuinely curious as to whether or not the celestial dragon spent his free time at the establishment the way some of the other students had.
He himself rarely went, apart from that one time when he accompanied Lizzy to retrieve those bolts of cloth and other shiny things for Prom. Strange that of all the possible subject the horse boil could have brought up, it wasn't Prom. Huh. Could there be a reason why?

Sheridan blinked, pausing a moment in his steps to give Petro a quizzical look. The maul? That was a rather...random question, why on earth had Petro asked that?
"No, I've never had a reason to."
He shook his head, still wondering but dismissed it and continued on the path. They weren't far from the theatre now, and by the looks of it, it must have been a popular production. A glance at the time, they were in good shape.
"Should we get a snack before going in?"

"Heh, me neither. But with Prom coming up'n all, think 'm gonna have to go get my dates these uh, cor-sa-ge things and flowers to match," he clucked his tongue. He wasn't a miser by any means but Tro had little reason to spend his pumpkin seeds. It wasn't as if the town had any training equipment the Fitness Club didn't already have.
They'd made good time to the theater it seemed because Sheridan was suggesting they get something to eat. The horse boil gave the celestial dragon a toothy grin, "Hey, yeah, my treat." Sorry, Sheridan, Petro's picking up the tab for the food. No arguments! It was the least the horse boil could do after all the help he'd gotten in his academics.

Sheridan raised a brow, now giving Petro a very curious look. It seemed his friend was either being extremely random or extremely mysterious today, though the dragon could not think of a reason as to why.
"Prom? Where did that come from?"
He vaguely remember seeing something about prom posted on one of the boards around school, but he hadn't given it much thought. He wasn't even sure if he was going to attend at this point, though he might just for curiosity sake. But he certainly hadn't considered a 'date'.
His tail twitched, he might have protested, he had been willing to buy his own food. But he elected not to, deciding that since he had purchased the theatre tickets it was only fair to let Petro buy the food if he wanted.
"Alright, I guess that's fair. What do you want to eat then?"

The horse boil tilted his head, "Don't right know where'd Prom come from. I ain't heard of it 'til I got to Amityville," he answered honestly, unfortunately misunderstanding what the celestial dragon really meant. It was such a big thing at school, Tro had just sorta assumed Sheridan was on board the whole thing. He had also assumed the other boil had been informed of the ghoul he'd be taking to said event.
Prompted to choose the place to eat, Tro spied a nearby stall selling, "Meat!" His grin widening, Petro motioned towards the displayed slices of meat and bread and an assortment of toppings and condiments. Apparently it was a sandwich stall of sorts, and the multi-limbed owner was busing the counter and walls. At the same time.

It may have taken a fair amount of self control to keep from facepalming. Instead he only shook his head, raising a brow as he shot a look at his friend. Not what he had meant, Petro.
"I meant it was not a subject I expected to come up today."
Random was what it was, completely random and seeming out of nowhere. Though to be fair, he supposed he could understand why Petro had misinterpreted him. Come to think of it, he had no idea where the 'tradition' of prom had come from either or why he was such a big thing.
"I haven't thought about it."
Meat? Oh, sandwiches it looked like, well that was a good lunch, he could go for a sandwich. Hmm, wondering if they had fish he followed Petro to the stand.

Petro canted his head towards the other boil, "Why not? Y' got a date coming up for Prom too," he blinked, looking very confused. Was Sheridan ready for his date and everything? Huh, maybe the horse boil should have also asked him for help in that department. When they got to the stall, Tro was all questions, "Y' mean y' got them corsages and flowers and stuff? Hey, y' don't mind maybe helping me pick out the ones I need to get for my dates, do you?" He was certainly enthusiastic, if nothing else.

Sheridan blinked, staring at his friend as if he had come from some other planet. Date? Him, on a date? What made Petro think he had a date? It wasn't that he would have been opposed if someone asked him, but who was he going to ask? He didn't know anything about proms or dating or flowers or...girls! Sheridan knew about science and stars!
"I...I haven't asked anyone..."
That seemed a bit lame now that he said it out loud, though he wasn't entirely sure why.

Petro had casually begun to point at various filling and spread for the stall owner to put in his sandwich as Sheridan spoke. "Figured that, 'cuz I keep seeing y' just by y'rself in the library. So I got y' a date," he explained cheerfully as if this was nothing out of the ordinary. Tro sounded like all he did was tell the dragon the horse boil had checked out a book. "Technically Riley got y' a date, using some fancy system she has. I signed y' up, she did her matching magick, and that's that," he nodded, both directed to Sheridan and the sandwich-stall owner. "What y' want in y'r sandwich?" he asked, turning to face the celestial dragon.

Sheridan had been standing beside Petro, looking over the sandwich options, choosing what he wanted before it was his turn. Oh good, they did have fish, that--
What?
The dragon's expression was caught between shock, confusion, and horror. Petro had done what? A date? Him? Petro had signed him up for a date? But...but...he...what...HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ON A DATE! He'd never been on a date before, he'd never really thought much about it. He was a dragon of science and logic, he didn't know the first thing about girls!
"I...I...you didn't have to do that."
He looked away, focusing his attention on pointing out to the stall owner what he wanted on his sandwich, indicating various ingredients and condiments.
"I've never been to a prom..."

Petro didn't seem to understand the expression on his friend's face. Why did Sheridan look so, well, confused? Shocked? Not happy? He tilted his head, resting an elbow on the counter, "Ain't been to one before neither, but going with a date seemed like something y' did. Least 's what Riley told me. And that we gotta make sure the ghoul don't get hurt," the monster horse was paraphrasing here, incorrectly at that but given how he'd misunderstood what Prom in and of itself already was, his understanding of everything else would be colored by his misconceptions.
"'Sides, 'm sure y'd do great at this Rite of Passage thing. Y' do great at a lotta stuff," he grinned in earnest as he watched what the celestial dragon was choosing for his sandwich.

He was glancing between Petro and the sandwich maker, selecting a piece of seared fish and vegetables for his sandwich. Though his head did not turn, he looked at his friend from the corner of his eye, a nervous twitch of his tail. He might have been blushing as well, he was sure, he hoped not, but he didn't know anything about dating, what did he do?
"I suppose..."
It did make sense to take a date to prom he guessed, at least that seemed to be traditional and he suspected others were taking dates as well. Of course that did not change the fact that he knew nothing about--wait a minute...
Now he did turn his head to look at Petro. What had he said? Why would a ghoul need protection at a prom? And what did Petro mean by 'rite of passage'?
"What do you think a prom is?"
