This was a lovely pebble. Smooth striations of brown and gray crossed its surface, the colors mixing together in a few places to pool into a muddy gray blend. Machweo didn't know how long she had been looking at it, but it was probably long enough for anyone who didn't know her to become concerned. Now, however, she was curious about what was on the other side of it, and she reached out wit ha paw to flip it over, taking in the patterns on the other side with wide eyes.

That streak of gray was almost purple, or maybe a sort of faded lavender. It was beautiful, and Machweo found herself absorbed yet again. Perhaps after she had studied this stone, she could take it and show it to someone, and they would appreciate the lovely patterns. For now, though, it was for her to admire, and it would hold her attention until someone broke her out of her almost-trance.

...Or until she spotted something with more interesting colors. Like one of the new lions. The thought crossed her mind briefly; the colors found in this pride were so varied, so lively and so beautiful - and she still hadn't seen them all! Neither had she managed to share the beauty with anyone outside of her small group. Perhaps she could try that later.

For now, though, this pebble was so pretty - and was that a dash of color closer to a gray-green?

This was a truly fascinating pebble!

Pankaj had been wary of the new male and his group of females and he hadn't taken much time to pause and get to know any one of them. After all, it would behoove him to be wary, to keep him at a distance. This pride was not a male-centric pride and the sisters seemed more than happy to let him do as he wished as long as he was able to prove himself worthy of remaining within their ranks. He'd yet to prove his masculinity as far as providing the pride with cubs went, and that irked him. Sebae had trotted off and bred with a rogue, an act that Kaj found distasteful, and Tulia had found a soft spot with Mkhai and they'd had a pawful of sons.

Kaj wanted to provide the pride with daughters.

That thought had him wandering through the pride in something of a daze and Kaj didn't see the brightly colored lioness until he was nearly upon her.

Machweo was so fixated upon her pebble that she didn't hear the lion's approach, and in fact didn't notice him until she looked up and he was practically on top of her.

"A-ah!" she exclaimed, backpedaling away and knocking her pebble flying. Where had he come from? Why was he here? And... what was that lovely mix of colors in his markings? More fascinated now than frightened, she peered up at him, wondering if he wanted something and what he thought about colors.

Belatedly, she wondered if she should ask his name.

"Ah... hello," she said, wishing that words didn't sound so much and looked more.

Kaj watched the pebble with interest as it landed before turning his attention back to the female. She didn't appear to be the skittish type -- it was more likely that he'd just surprised her. He took a moment to really look at her.

Kaj had always stuck out like a sore thumb. Cursed with a bright pelt and mane, it wasn't that he didn't think himself attractive or desirable, it was just that he was TOO. Too bright, too spotted, too pink, too purple, too vivid. Even Sebae called him "flowerboy" and he usually let it roll off his back like rain. It didn't bother him, really. Well, usually.

This lioness, she was bright like him. White mane, yes, but the prettiest pinkish sunset fade he'd ever seen.

Too bad she was one of the newcomers. He would be cordial.

"Greetings," he said, dipping his head slightly. "I am Pankaj, but call me Kaj. You are new here, yes?"

"Yes," she said simply, her eyes bright with happiness at seeing the new colors that were in his pelt. "I am Machweo," she added, thinking that it might be appropriate to introduce herself. That was what you were supposed to do when you met someone new, right?

Oh, his colors were so lovely, she wished she could get a closer look, but she couldn't do that, not without getting too close to him, not without being rude - she'd taken many a pawswipe across th nose as a cub for such invasions of personal space, before she'd learned not to bother others so much.

"There are many different colors here," she said, smiling to herself. "I enjoy it."

"Machweo," Kaj let the name roll off of his tongue, familiarizing himself with the sound of it. It was a pretty name and she was a pretty enough female... albeit a bit weird but he wouldn't hold it against her. After all, she did have a point. Their pride was a bright pride full of many different colors. Nobody could accuse the Ongozona'Ke of being boring to look at.

"Well, welcome to the pride. It is a nice family to be a part of," he said gently, tilting his head to watch her carefully.

"Have you met any others?"

Machweo nodded, turning her head to look at the area around them. "I haven't spoken with them," she said quietly, since in her mind she had 'met' them when she glimpsed their colors, but she knew that others had a different meaning for 'meeting'.

"It does seem nice," the lioness said, turning to regard the lion before her again with a genuine, if slightly dreamy, smile. "I think I will enjoy staying here."

She wasn't the most talkative of companions, to be sure, but she wasn't one to be rude or cruel, either - aside from small indiscretions when a certain color caught her attention a bit too much.

If there was one thing that Kaj enjoyed doing above all else it was trumpeting the virtues of his beloved females. Well, not really his females, but ... well, he knew what he meant. It was just hard to put in to words so that someone else could understand it.

"Tulia and Sebae are sisters. Sebae actually found this land. Tulia is blind," he said quietly, almost as if he revered this fact, "and has mothered a litter of her own. Nearly grown, they are, and I hear the boys will be leaving the pride behind."

He wasn't really sure why he felt this unspeakable urge to try and convince the female that this place was actually quite fantastic -- she was here and she'd already said that she'd enjoy staying here. There really was no reason for him to be so persuasive.

"I am sure you will enjoy this place," he said weakly, clearing his throat.

"Blind?" Machweo echoed, and her ears twitched. Blind meant not seeing; blind meant not knowing all of the colors in the world! Oh, this was tragic... the white-maned female tilted her head and blinked her brow furrowing a little.

"She must be brave. I cold never live like that," she said simply - it was the truth, after all. If she were to be deprived of her colors... Well, she shuddered just to think of it.

Machweo shifted her position and smiled a little. "Thank you for telling me," she added, thinking that he seemed a bit bothered, somehow. She didn't see why - someone with such a lovely colors should never be upset or embarrassed.

Of course, to Machweo every color was lovely, from muddy green to bright fuchsia, so her thoughts were a bit skewed on the subject.

"She is very brave," Kaj said softly, a smile on his muzzle. "Very brave and one of the sweetest lionesses you could ever hope to meet. I think you would get along with her very well, Machweo." Clearing his throat, the soft look that had been in his eyes dissipated. It wasn't wise of him to speak so softly of a female like that -- one might think he fancied himself in love with the lioness. He didn't, not at all, but Tulia reminded him much of his own mother.

"I should get back to my duties," he said quietly, offering Machweo a smile before dipping his head in respect. "I hope to speak with you again, Machweo. It has been a pleasure."
