Kimana was happy. Today was a new day and she was finally out in the sunshine away from her temporary den which had turned into such a depressing hole. She hated places that reminded her of forgotten things. She really did. So the lioness was now prowling across the grasslands with her head held high. This was going to be a good day! She was certain of it.

But the question was, what would she do?

Hmm. The female looked around. Was there anything to do out here? Of course she could cloud watch or find something to chase…but it was always like that. She wanted something new today. “I’ll go to the waterhole then.” With a smile Kimana started her way towards the refreshing waters.

Another lioness was already at the water hole. She was moving through the water, but the splashing was quiet compared to most who just rush into the water. Instead she seemed respectful of the water and watched each step that she took with care. Her green gaze was fixated on the water’s surface and she suddenly paused. “Wow, I look rough.” She whispered with a small smile batting the reflection away.

Oh well. At least it was nice here without anyone else. The lioness yawned before stretching out to lay in the water. Ah, that felt nice. Closing her eyes she nearly drifted off to sleep before the other lioness arrived.

Ah-hah! Kimana nearly jumped for joy when she spotted the other lioness, “Hello there!” Splashing into the water she giggled as the other lioness clearly slipped in surprise, “You okay?” She asked peering down into the water. Where did she go? Kimana looked around with a small frown on her face.

Was the other lioness okay? She didn’t mean to hurt her, only surprise her a bit.

Oh, but she wasn’t moving! Or that she could see her anyway. “You should come out now…I’m worried.” She splashed through the water searching, only to scream when someone jumped her from behind.

“Are you crazy?!” The other lioness tackled the younger one with a growl. “Who are you to just splash up behind someone like that?” She let go and with a splash walked around to face the startled feline. “You didn’t like how that felt did you?” She asked sitting back down in the water, facing the lioness with a small grin. “Well then you should consider that next time you decide to give someone a scare.”

“What if I wasn’t nice?” She continued after watching the other’s expression, “I could’ve attacked you for that.”

“But you didn’t.” Kimana protested, “So it’s okay right? Well I mean, okay this time.” She quickly added with a grin, “I think you’re fine. Plus you swim really well to have tricked me like that! Are you sure you aren’t a water creature instead of a lion?” She leaned forward as if studying the other lioness. “I would believe it.”

She pulled back with a laugh. “As it is I guess you are normal though else you would have just slipped under and never came back! Unless you still just wanted to tease me like that…” She paused and looked back at the other lioness with a small pout.

“Oh you don’t need to worry about that. I’m perfectly normal, not some water creature.” She laughed softly, “You should know that, cub. Else I would have just slipped away on you or brought you down with me.” She nodded.

“Oh scary!” Kimana laughed before shaking her head, “My name isn’t cub anyways! It’s Kimana, cause the one who named me said I flitter around too much almost like a butterfly.” She looked up at the sky with a smile, “That one was nice when he named me. I liked him.”

“Kimana then?” The lioness paused before nodding, “I’m Faliha. But why is it that someone named you? Did you not have a mother to name you?” Her gaze looked to the other’s with concern. Who was this strange lioness to have been named by someone other than family?

“Faliha! A pretty name.” Kimana smiled, “A pretty name for a pretty lioness.” Her expression faltered at the question, “I don’t know my actual name. My mother must have named me, but I forgot. So he named me instead. Before I just wandered around and called myself ‘her’ or ‘lioness’.”

“So do you like the water?” She seemingly brightened back up, “He liked the stars and lived in a place of shrines. They dedicated themselves to the gods there. It was a very nice place. But I have no gods to claim or serve so I didn’t stay too long after I finally recovered.”

Faliha studied the lioness with interest. So she had no memories? What would have happened in order to do such a thing to Kimana? As it was she respected the past of the other lioness and let the matter rest. At least with the loss of memories. But now she was curious about this place of shrines. “So it was a pride that you came from?” Could this be the place that she had heard about before from other rogues? For her to hear about it again, from such a lioness like this…right after meditating in the waters…

Was it finally time to make up her mind about a home?

“Yes it was a pride! A very nice pride.” She smiled, “I was happy there. I don’t know why I left really…” She paused before shaking her head, “I guess because it just wasn’t meant for me. So I’ll keep looking until I find where I belong. Surely someone will know me or pull me home. If not then I guess I’m fine like this.” Kimana looked up at the sky with a small smile, “Life is fun no matter what.”

“Ah. Well if you say so.” Faliha only shook her head before nudging the other lioness, “So which direction was this pride in then?”

“That way.” Kimana pointed and smiled, “Are you going there? Can you tell him hello for me and that I’m doing fine?” She brightened, “I would love that! Better can I walk with you a ways to make sure you are traveling the right way?”

“Umm…certainly.”

“Great!” Kimana bounced with excitement, “Then let’s go!”

“O-okay.”

“Yay!”

With that she was off and Faliha had to start running just to keep up with the energetic lioness. She just hoped that Kimana tired out before her, else she might just lose the other lioness. Then she would be really lost.

Oh well. She could just hope things went well. Especially if this place was truly going to become her home.
