Kimana chased a butterfly across the savanna. “Wait up! I’m like you~!” She cried out with a laugh. The young lioness was enjoying this chase. With the wind blowing by, her fur was ruffled, and the lioness almost felt like she could really be flying. Oh how she wished she could. Kimana stumbled to a halt and watched as the butterfly disappeared into the bright sunlight. “Aww. I guess I’m alone again.” She pawed at the ground with a small sigh before shaking her head. “No worries!” She stretched. She was fine by herself. That’s how she had always been after all…alone.
Well not really. But the lioness couldn’t seem to remember anything about her cub hood. Had she hit her head really hard at one point to have lost so many memories? Kimana grinned. “Good thing! At least I don’t have to worry about how much it must’ve hurt me.” Still. She acted happy, but it was obvious that she was disturbed by the loss. Then again how could she miss something that she couldn’t remember having in the first place? Maybe it was just normal for adult lions to lose their cub hood memories at one point. She doubted it.
A young leopard watched the lioness running across the savanna. He had been disturbed at first because from a distance her markings had reminded him of his own, of his family’s. But on a closer inspection it wasn’t the case. Still she was a pretty thing who seemed to be enjoying life. Though a bit too innocently. Amani smiled. She looked like an adult, but reminded him of a cub with the way she was acting. Maybe she was related. The leopard smiled. No, she was a lion after all.
Sneaking up to her was easy. At this point the lioness was lying stretched out with her gaze fixated on the clouds above. Was she counting them or trying to think about something? Amani was curious, not to mention thinking of his quest as well. “What are you doing?”
Kiman let out a shrill scream of surprise before rolling over to look at the leopard. He was crouching down, eyes wide at her reaction to his presence. “Oh! So sorry, but you startled me! Are you alright?” She tilted her head in curiosity. This was the first time that she had seen a leopard so up close before. How cool!
“Ye-yeah. I’m alright.” Amani gave a small smile before sitting straighter, “Are you alright? I didn’t know that you would be so startled.”
“Heh. I guess I did over react a bit. But I was so caught up in watching the clouds.”
“Watching the clouds?”
“Yeah. They have some really pretty images up there sometimes.” She waved a paw towards the sky, “See? That one there looks like a water dragon.”
“A water dra-?” Amani shook his head, “You mean a gator?”
“If that’s what you call them, then I guess so.” She smiled, “He’s up there chasing down that poor gazelle in the next cloud.”
“Oh.” Amani glanced up at the sky and tried his best to decipher what the lioness was seeing. There. “I think I see it.” He actually grinned over at her. “Who would’ve thought it?”
“You mean you’ve never looked at clouds before?” The lioness gasped, “That’s horrible!”
“Well I look at them, but I’ve never looked for things in them before.” Was it that bad that he didn’t do such a thing? He was always too busy figuring out his life to really day dream like this lioness seemed to do.
“Well. I guess I can forgive you. Maybe it’s just me who can see the cloud creatures well.” She smiled and looked around, “Are you alone?”
“Ah. Yes, I am.” Amani shifted, “Why?”
“No reason. I just wanted to make sure that no one else would scare me like you did.”
“Oh.” He bowed his head, “Sorry about that.”
“It’s alright!” Kimana laughed, “I just like to tease! Not to mention that you are company, and I like company.”
“Oh, okay?” Amani shook his head. She was definitely energetic. “So I take it you’re alone often?”
“Oh yes. That I can remember anyways.” She smiled, “I mean to go out and find more felines to talk to, but end up chasing butterflies or something all day. Or hunting.” She flexed her claws, “I like to hunt as well. Poor things, but I need to survive you know?”
Amani just nodded, “I understand.”
“Great!” She laughed and stood up to nudge him, “Care to walk with me for a bit? That is if you aren’t really in a hurry. I like traveling with others and hearing about things. It kinda fills my head, so I’m not so empty.”
“Not so empty?”
She paused, her blue gaze suddenly saddened. “Ah. I like hearing things, I mean. Not that I’m empty minded!” She forced a small laugh. “Not that at all.” She was just empty of memories instead. The lioness frowned before shaking her head, “Anyways shall we go?”
“Umm…I guess.”
“Kay! Oh! Did we even introduce ourselves? I call myself Kimana.”
“I’m Amani.”
“How cute! It matches you well since you’re so feminine and pretty.”
“I’m not that feminine!”
“Uh-huh. Well I think that’s okay.” She winked, “It’s kinda attractive.”
“Pfft. Just leave that topic alone.”
“Aww, why?”
“Because.” He stopped and looked at her seriously, “I’m not going to ruin your freedom out here. So don’t try to get involved with me. I’m not a rogue like you.”
“Oh?” She actually grinned at him, “So you aren’t a free one then?”
“Well-“
“Well?”
“I am, but not females.”
“So females aren’t free?”
“In my pride they aren’t.” He gave a soft sigh, “But they are treated well…by most.” The leopard shook his head. “Anyway, there’s no point in worrying about that. I’m not going to take you there.”
“Am I not good enough? What if I wanted to go? You are rather cute after all.” She smiled, “Just teasing! Thank you for being considerate though.”
“Yeah.” He actually smiled, “You still want to travel with me for a bit?”
“Of course!” Kimana walked ahead and looked back at him with a grin, “You’re very nice after all! It’s good for me to have company for a bit even if I can’t follow you all the way home. Let’s go!” With that she turned and started to race across the savanna with the leopard running after her.
