The whole world's gone crazy...

Just a few months ago everything was, or at least appeared from the outside to be, just as it always was. Then, just like a wave of a wand, things changed almost overnight and now nothing is the same. Laughter is all but gone, replaced with another kind of laughter; a cruel echo that enjoys the suffering of others. Even the light from the sun seems a shade darker and does not last near as long as anyone wants it to.

Those thought to be 'lesser' are hunted down like common criminals...no, criminals have more rights than what is being shown to the poor souls who have been declared lesser. I've heard those that hunt the muggle born and blood traitors make games and bets on how they will fare for the day or week. Bloody snatchers seem to pop up everywhere, sometimes literally.

Many have gone into hiding, even the chosen one has been said to be hiding out. He never showed up at Hogwarts, didn't even get on the train from what I've heard tell. Same as those other two who always seem to be right there by his side. They say Hogwarts is almost like another Azkaban for the children, or at the least a place to root out those thought to be not worthy. Although, oddly enough, there has been talk about the students being looked out for by some. No one ever says who or how but that's what they say.

The Order of the Phoenix is all but scattered to the four winds and what's left have to stay in hiding else the Death Eaters catch them and do Merlin knows what to them. There has been talk about some odd fellow fighting some of the snatchers all dressed up like something out of a Beetle the Bard tale. Death Eaters walking around like police, You-Know-Who pulling the Ministry's strings, people running around dressed like All Hallows Eve, I tell you...

The whole world's gone crazy.

Setting

You're not sure how long you've been on the run but your starting to get somewhat use to it even though the reality of the situation is starting to sink in. All the talk from the ministry about tracking down those unworthy and less desirables has made it more than clear you'd best stay clear of large gatherings of people. Which is why you left Hogwarts when you had the chance, either never going in the first place, slipping off the train after the new Magical Law Enforcement lot searched the train for Undesirable Number One, or deciding it best to get out before the opening ceremony with the new Head Master.

The others with you seem close to the state you're in, maybe even worst off but you have yet to take the time to ask. For until now there has never really been any time for small talk, just exchanging names and agreeing to stick together. The area you find yourselves in now seems fair enough of a place to try and catch your breath and maybe come up with some kind of game plan with the others. Just hope there are none of them snatchers out and about.

The character limitor has been taken off and new people are welcome to join. However I would like a PM of the character your thinking about using given the situation that is going on in this RP.

Some things to keep in mind:

1. We are not in Hogwarts and likely will not go there
2. This is during the time of the seventh book
3. We will not be running into the fabled trio, but some of the Order of the Phoenix may be allowed given circumstances but that is not now.
4. We will most likely be hiding out and running from snatchers, think of the fabled forest scene from the Seventh movie part 1.
5. I would like few graduated characters, and hopefully more muggle born and half-bloods to make the chasing have more meaning.

At thirty-three, Juliana had prided herself at raising not one but two children as a single mother. Both of her teens, now sixteen, had proven to her time and again that they had inherited their mother's aptitude for knowledge, strong sense of dedication, and keen aspirations for accomplishment. They remained close knit, and Juliana's career as a teen-magazine editor at the school her children might have attended meant that, unlike many parents, she had the benefit of being both a parent and a friend to her two children.

She had never regretted making the decision to keep the baby(s) when her good-for-nothing fiance had walked out on her, and she had pushed herself to work up from assistant to editor in the first four years of their lives together. Even when the letters had come, explaining that, no, the series of apartments they had moved into at years 9-11 were not haunted and it was, in fact, her children that were witches (of all things!), she had accepted the news with a level of grace and open-mindedness. Of course she'd first believed the letters from from a crack-head, but when one of the instructors arrived at their door the very next day there was no denying the existence of magic, or her daughters' gift with it.

So she'd accepted that her children were going to be introduced to a magical world, one where they'd learn to cast spells and concoct potions, and she, in response, had buried her head in the magazine to maintain her sanity. It only took three years for her to grow accustomed to the idea, and now she liked to think that she was as accepting and even adaptive parent on the block.

Not that it had stopped the two of them from taking charge at the train station, combining their stubborn wills and dragging their mother along with them, and telling her absolutely nothing as they went. Having expected to return to the magazine for her annual "week-long overload" to comfort herself while her 'babies' went away for another school year, dressed in white capri-cut tights, a sky-blue camisole, and blazer, she had finally dug in her fashionable, but not practical, faux-gator skin heels in and refused to go further without an explanation. How could she help her daughters if she had no idea what it was they were so afraid of?

Taking only a moment to catch her breath, she narrowed her dark, almost black, eyes on her daughters. "What in the bloody hell is going on?!" She ignored the fact that her daughters now had their wands out in public, despite it being well past the eleventh hour at night, and their eyes on the skies instead of being attentive to their near-frantic mother.

➚ Isabel ➘ Goodwin ➚

Practical Isabel, prepared Isabel, goddamn bloody terrified Isabel was dressed in jeans and a loose, tan sweater. Her dark brown hair was pulled back into a high ponytail -- an efficient hairstyle, for someone on the run with barely enough time to breathe or think let alone fool with her hair. Her eyes (which that shy Hufflepuff had compared to melted dark chocolate, before a Death Eater had killed him for being Muggleborn, anyway) were sharp and fixed ont he sky, and her wand out.

Seven and a half inches (seven, the number representing thought and consciousness), made of hawthorn (that endured). Made by Ollivander, its core was unicorn tail hair. A quality wand that had chosen an intelligent young Ravenclaw -- a Ravenclaw who'd be accused of stealing it, sneaking her way into her House, and then have to watch the hawthorn be snapped into pieces if she were caught.

"Mum, please shut up," Izzy said politely, though there was an edge to her voice that was never there. Izzy was the obedient, thoughtful daughter. Mostly. "And here, take this."

She'd been lugging around two backpacks charmed and full of supplies including clothes, and it was high time her mother took charge of the one stuffed mostly full of her things. "We don't have time to explain the situation to you right now. But suffice to say it's urgent, so please trust us."

Izzy gave her twin a sidelong glance, silently begging her to shut up and not say anything about them probably being caught and murdered. Not just yet. Not until they were away somewhere (relatively) safe, where their mother's inevitable tantrum would not give them away.

This was her fault. It was all her fault. Nobody would've found out about her family had it not been for her; her and her lies to make her life better. It hadn't started that way when she was little. No, it hadn't started that way. Jo had been like any other eleven year girl at the time, pressured by her peers and she lied. And for 6 years she kept that lie going. Anxiously, she pulled her chocolatey auburn hair into a messy ponybun...something she never did. Everything Jo did was poised, sophisticated, and sexy. It was just who she was....well not anymore.

Tears started to spill over from her bright amber colored eyes; reaching up she hastily wiped them away as she listened to her much more responsibly sister try and calm their mother. Looking over at Izzy, she got her twin's begging gaze and looked down at the street guiltily.

"Please, mum....let's just get out of here. We'll explain everything, just not here. Not where they can hear us," her fear and guilt crept into her voice as she refused to look at her mother.

Hoisting her pack up on her shoulder, she shoved her beautifully detailed eight and on-fourth inches cherry wood wand with a dragon heartstring core into her hair. She loved that wand. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes on the beautiful scene...The London Eye, the unsuspecting muggles, happiness.....it was never going to be like that for them again.

"One stop Izzy, we need to make one stop before we take off....We've got to get into Diagon Alley," she whispered harshly.

Really. She leveled a skeptical eye first at her daughter Izzy, then softened as she heard the uncharacteristic breaking of Jo's voice. In concern, she tried to catch her daughters eye but it was as elusive as a fox. Juliana took the bag that Izzy held out for her.

"Alright." She said finally, cutting in at the words 'Diagon Alley', "I do trust you two, but sooner or later you're going to have to tell me what is going on." Raising a hand before Isabel thought her mother's panic was about to set in again (though it wasn't far off,) she continued quickly. "I'm as useful as a football player in the kitchen if I don't know what's going on, or at least a part of it."

The click of her fancy heels echoed on the nearly empty pier, "But do we have to go there?" She asked, barely above a whisper. It wasn't that she had any particular problem with her daughters' magic, in fact she was quite proud of it, but whenever she'd accompanied her children (the very few times they'd actually wanted her cramping their style) to any congregation of 'magical' folk, there had always been a large number of strange people around, and they gave Juliana the creeps.

Jo winced slightly at her mom's whisper. She knew her mom has no issue with their magic, but sometimes the words still hurt. And knowing she possibly couldn't protect her mother or her sister made the hurt that much worse.

"Yes, momma. We have to go there but only for as short a time as we can manage. We need to grab a few things and leave quickly," curling her hand around her mother's and held on tightly before she let go. They needed to keep moving; her thought briefly turned to if they could find a Floo Network to sneak into but she really didn't think so.

"Honestly, we need to get to Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. They've got some objects we need and will help us while we're gone. Izzy and I need some fake wands and maybe even some instant darkness powder? Whatever we get its got to be quick.

She hefted her pack up on to her shoulders and shifted her bright amber eyes over to her twin, "What do you think Izzy?"

Izzy shook her head. "Jo, we can't," she said warily. "You know we can't. Not Diagon Alley - it's too open, not enough crowds nowadays. And Knockturn is hardly any better. Besides, we can't take mum there. It's suicide."

The Ravenclaw knew they had to get away, and she knew Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes had things she and Jo needed to keep themselves and their mother safe -- and Izzy had already bought most of those things. Trick wands and the Peruvian powder she had. That was one problem solved... but there was a bigger one.

"What we've really got to worry about is the Trace."

Snatchers

The girls were right to be worried and cautious about going into Diagon Alley but they should have been more worried about being where they already were. Not many people milled about by the river so late at night unless they had true business or were up to no good. Unfortunately for the three ladies there was a group about that had both things on their minds.

A man leaning against a building took a slow drag of his thin cigar and grinned as the smoke came out of his nose rather than his mouth. He wore a long red coat with well fitting black gloves a frilled white shirt and well fitting black pants. His hair was as dark as the night itself and his skin as pale as the moon all except for his lips which were a pale pink as if stained by whatever he had eaten recently. He placed the cigar back in his mouth and began clapping and walking towards the girls with a look that spoke of only vile thoughts and future gains.

"I must congratulate you on getting so far, not many of you mud-bloods make it passed the first few steps before freezing up in terror of what might be coming for you," His voice was eerily smooth and calm unlike most snatchers in the trade, "You were missed at the Head Master's opening words, Umbridge had you two marked down from the beginning to be detained and dealt with properly," The man snapped his gloved fingers and four more men walked into view, "Such pretty little things a shame to waist such fruit but I'm not about to go against the Dark Lord's wishes. However that one there, "The man pointed his finger at the muggle, "should make a fine appetizer," a chuckle escaped the man's lips as he pulled his cigar away and blew the toxic cloud out of his nostrils again, "Boys, get to work."

With that the four other Snatchers rubbed their hands and a few cracked their necks. Only two had their wands out the others didn't see the need to worry about two girls and their muggle mother. They did not move quickly because they hoped the three would run, because oh how they loved to chase down their prey.

Fake wands, magical powder, avoiding the wizardry community? Juliana Goodwin didn't get to be editor of an entire magazine by being dull or stupid, and Izzy's mention of the trace told her what she was already starting to wonder -- her daughters were hiding from their fellow wizards. But why?

Then the man stepped out from the building, dressed like he walked out of one of the video games that some of her writers insisted on featuring now and then in the teen magazine, and Juliana was prepared to tell him to shove off like any other strangely dressed creep she might have bumped into now and then at this hour. Something arrested that thought. A feeling, the sort that raises hairs on the back of one's neck.. and perhaps the other four men that joined him.

Mudblood. She'd heard that term. Izzy, after her first year, had told Juliana about the distinctions between 'pure' and 'mud' bloods. She'd worried that her children would suffer from this archaic stigma, but her surveillance for signs never produced evidence of it. In fact, it had been years since she'd heard the term, but she never forgot it.

Having been handed her bag from Izzy, she had her tazer close. While the pale man had spoken she had palmed it and now had it ready, hidden behind her bag. As he looked at her daughters with that dangerous gaze she stepped in front of them, protectively, even though she had no delusions that she could keep them safe from five ordinary thugs, let alone the ones that had produced wands of their own. Still holding Jo's hand in one of her hands she kept her eye on the man in the red coat while she addressed her daughters, "Girls," and tightened her grip on the tazer gun, ready to pull it, "If you were saving anything for an emergency..."

She didn't need to finish the sentence, knowing that both of her daughters were intelligent enough to do that for her - even for her to not have said anything at all. Juliana knew that she was over her head, but she wouldn't abandon her children -- ever.

Everything at this point was acting on pure instinct in Jo's body. Reaching into her bag she grasped two vials she was looking for. Pulling one arm back and she threw both vials to the ground forcing them to explode with an air rocking concussion.

"Mom, Izzy, Cover you face!!" she yelled in the din of the bang while covering her own so she didn't breathe in the potions fumes.

A euphoria potion and exploding fluid mixed together in her mini potion lab. Crazy, but effective as per the crazy drunken and singing snatchers before them. A canary yellow gas filled their little group as the euphoria potion wafted towards the snatchers. It would take at least 24 hours, if not more for that potion to wear off. Pushing her mum behind her and grabbing Izzy's hand, her brain started to work. Where could they go? They couldn't apparate even though she had past the test....had Izzy? Jo couldn't remember? They could run...How far would that get them? Stun them? No! The Trace!

Izzy chewed her lip and then made a quick decision - she was the Ravenclaw; Jo was cunning but Izzy was clever, and how quickly could the Snatchers get into Ministry records? Not so quickly that they wouldn't be able to escape them again. The Trace be damned - there was really no other way.

In the mess of explosions Jo had grabbed one of her hands; Izzy shoved her wand up her sleeve and groped blindly for her mum's. She shouted when she caught - "We have to risk it! Mum, get ready!"

That was really no way to prepare one's Muggle mother for her first Apparation, but time was short and the situation too hectic. Closing her eyes, Izzy focused on the three D's and they Disapparated with a pop. They reappeared at an innocuous corner in Muggle London, one suspiciously close to the Ministry entrance. Izzy didn't have a plan, but she knew what they had to do.

Not used to listening to her daughters’ orders, she neither covered her face or managed to prepare herself for whatever Izzy had planned. She felt a wave of drunkenness, which was unpleasant enough as she hardly ever drank alcohol, and then the world was literally thrown out from under her feet while she was sucked up into a mind-numbing swirl of images and sound. The moment that they apparated – which, to Juliana’s mind, was as simple as having solid ground under her feet again – she pulled away from both her daughters and fell forward with her hand over her mouth. Her stomach heaved and she barely managed to avoid vomiting by squeezing her eyes closed and focusing on keeping her stomach contents down.

She stood up shakily, hand on the outside wall, sucking in the air to clear her head.

Do we have to keep running, or is there, by chance, a moment you can finally explain to me what is going on?”Instead of loud or border-line hysterical this time, her tone was simply quiet.

London Rooftops

"Blue I lost them...repeat I lost them Blue..."

"What do you mean you lost them?"

"They disapparated," A voice spoke into a mirror on a wristband.

"By Merlin's Beard, what are those two thinking. We will see what we can do but you'll have to do some searching of your own," said the image looking back at the first voice from the mirror.

"Understood, keep me informed White out," with that a small leather covering was moved over the mirror so the reflective surface would not give the wearer away.

The little wrist mirror was a clever little piece of magic that the one referred to as Blue had come up with. It was a two way mirror that instead of showing the person looking's reflection it showed you the person who was looking at the twin of that mirror. Sounds traveled well enough even if a bit muffled but it was a great way for two people to keep in touch. The covering helped keep the little contraption hidden from normal view and when one person needed to get a hold of the other they simply tapped the mirror and it gave the other person a tingling feeling in their arm to alert them.

With a sigh the one who called himself White looked about the roof tops of London and took in the magnitude of the task at hand. With a pop he vanished and appeared on a taller building for a better vantage point but still felt like he was looking for a snitch in a hail storm.
