Usually Anthony Darrow tried to keep a normal schedule. Get up in the morning, walk Dogby to work, get half way before having to pick her up, get to work. After the usual routines of a job he loved, he'd close up, stay a bit late after work, then carry Dogby all the way home because she usually had worn herself out by then.

Then it was patrol time.

Tonight, however, things were a little different. Dogby had much more energy than she normally did come time to go home, and she wanted nothing more than to walk and explore and bounce around like the growing puppy she was. Growing figuratively, he supposed, or just in age. It was not likely the corgi would get too much bigger, would she?

So he had to put off his patrol ideas to give Dogby a bit more exercise before she would let him take her home. She kept tugging at her lead as he limped along the quiet road with her, his cane in hand as per usual. It was a bit awkward still, with his arm in its cast, but he was getting better with it.

Just in time for it to come off, he hoped.

In any case, he kept his attention up. Just because he was walking his dog, that didn't mean he couldn't patrol, right? He wasn't Camelot at the moment, so he couldn't sense any auras, but he relied on his eyes and ears. All the while trying to look casual and not like an old, odd, creeper walking an adorable dog at night.

He was mostly failing.

Darryl liked summers, really. The nuns where much more easy-going in summers when you have a good behavior on file, which explained why the teenager was out this late, skateboarding along the sidewalk the opposite side on the street from Tony.

She hardly seemed to notice him - headphones on, music blaring from her hold, beaten up cd player, she passed the walker and his dog like a speeding bullet.

Unfortunately, something jumped out of the nearby alley to follow her, but she didn't seem to notice.

Tony came to a stop so Dogby could sniff a particularly interesting bump in the pavement, her attention spanning not much further than the end of her nose, and he happened to glance across the street when he heard the skareboard moving down the sidewalk in the quiet.

He spotted the girl and looked away as people are wont to do while casually glancing, but his head snapped back in a double take when he saw the youma slip out of the shadows to follow her.

"Uhm."

He looked down at Dogby, then moved to tie her leash to a nearby tree. He hoped she would be safe there, stooping to pat her on the head then scoot her into a hiding place. He told her to stay there.

Darting out of the street, he powered up and soon enough Camelot was on the chase. He ran after the youma and the girl, hoping he might be able to catch the youma before the girl even noticed, with her headphones on and all. That became impossible, though, as the youma lashed out and caught hold of her skateboard, effectively bringing her forward propulsion to an abrupt stop.

Darryl didn't notice any of this, lost in her little world as she was.

That is, until she suddenly stopped moving forward, and stumbled straight off her skateboard in mid-movement.

"The hell ?! HEY ! The ******** are you..."

She wasn't expecting to turn and see a monster, of all thing. It looked like... some kind of crazy black dog on steroids.

And it didn't look very happy to see her.

Darryl took one step back, then a second. She was observing her surroundings, looking back and forth for something she could hit the damn thing with. Her skateboard had already proved a fine monster elimination device... Except when it was already in possession of the monster.

She didn't quite see Camelot come toward to save her.

Camelot barreled toward her as the youma loomed over her with a hungry look on its gnarled face. It was salivating and growling deeply in its chest, wanting her energy or her starseed. Whatever it could get, really, even if it had to rip through her flesh to get to it.

"Don't worry, miss!"

The knight slammed into the youma, sending it crashing forward, only slightly to the side. It hit the floor near Darryl, but was clearly not down for the count. It pushed its paws under it and snapped its head around to bite her, but Camelot had already grabbed onto her and pulled her to him.

The youma scrambled up and lunged at them without much pause.

"Damn," Camelot said, putting himself between the girl and the youma, the beast meeting his shield head on. Quite literally. Camelot had swung his shield to meet the charge and the wooden item slammed into the youma's face. It pissed the thing off, and it swung low to grab Camelot by his leg and pull him away from Darryl. It tossed him to the side after trying to maul him, then turned its attention back to the girl.

It seemed the youma really wanted a taste of her.

And suddenly there was a man in armor right in front of her, but Darryl preferred this to being eaten. Certainly. So she was willing not to ask herself how it was possible.

It was Destiny City. It was that simple.

The monster kept luging to reach her - it wanted her. Quite badly. And the reason was about to become clear - when it finally managed to slide beside Camelot to go for it's intended target.

That was when it happened. Something suddenly took form in front of her - a staff, frosty blue wood, hovering right in front of her. It waited, there, for the first of it's knights in over a millennium to take it.

Darryl stared at it, but the monster was coming. It floated there... silent yet somehow calling out to her.

She took it, and that was where everything changed.

She rose the staff to block on pure reflex - but it certainly wasn't doing as good as Camelot's shield had done, her heeled boots - ...oh god wht the ******** was she wearing heels ?! - pushing back from the impact.

"The ******** is going on ?!" Indeed.

Camelot stared in wonder and slight horror as the young girl suddenly became just like him: a knight. She had woken up, suddenly found her item, as he had, in the middle of a fight. Except he at least had been with someone he knew and already knew quite a lot about the whole senshi thing. It wasn't the same, but it had certainly softened the sudden blow of change.

He imagined she was very, very confused.

Charging back over, he slammed his shoulder into the youma and sent it spilling sideways, away from them, looking at the girl.

"You're a knight!" he said, sounding as if he were the one most surprised here. He cleared his throat, "you're like me. Do you feel that strength in you? Your weapon will help you, but if it's anything like mine it might be brittle or weak. But it'll get the job done. That is a youma. It wants to eat your starseed. Uhm. I'll give notes later."

The youma turned and charged at them again, leaping on Camelot and forcing him to the ground. He chomped on his shoulder, though his chainmail protected him from its teeth.

"A little help!" He called, though maybe he could have thrown it off him on his own. "And don't put your eye out with that thing!"

"A what now ?" Yep - the newborn knight was very confused indeed. The older man continued to blatter on about monsters and knights and starseeds and Hesperis wasn't really following.

First things first, through... "I can poke it's eye out." She muttered, and while Camelot was holding it at bay, she started whacking at the monster.

That was what a stick was for, right ?! This had to be a messed up dream. She was going to wake up soon, right ? Then she could retell it to Erika and they could laugh about it.

Right ?

"Yes, putting its eye out would certainly be better. Do that!"

Stuck under the youma, he watched as the newly awakened knight attacked it with her staff weapon. He hoped it was sturdy, as he knew very well how easily these things could break. His shield often shattered after two or three good hits to an enemy. Someones one, if the conditions were particularly stacked against him.

The youma didn't seem too pleased with this effort by Hesperis, and it released Camelot to turn against her, catching the stick in its jaws and trying to shake her from it.

"Oh, hold on!" Camelot said, struggling to his feet. He struck it on the head in an effort to free its jaws from around the stick, not wanting it to snap on her first fight.

Surprise and inexperience did most of the work for the youma - it only took a few good thugs for Hesperis to lose her grip on her weapon. "Hey ! That's MY god damn stick, give that back !"

She wasn't sure why she cared so much about the lost of her staff, but she did. So she did what Camelot had just asked her to do - kicked the youma. Hopefully in the face. If luck was with them, she might even get an eye !

Hey, she was wearing heels. ******** heels. This might very well be the only good use for them.

The youma was in over its head with two knights flailing at it. One through inexperience, the other through mild panic at seeing a new knight awaken.

It was a learning day for them both. Camelot, though, hoped he was getting better at the 'dealing with new things' thing.

Seeing the youma steal her staff from her, he pulled back and let her smash it in the face with her shoe. It howled, head jerking to the side from the force of the blow, eye closed immediately and its claws flying up to paw at the injury. It spat out the staff, too caught up in the fact that its eye probably imploded to really want to play fetch at the moment.

Camelot moved in quickly, bringing his shield around and slamming it into the youmas head one more time. This was enough, combined with the foot to the face, for it to burst into dust. Camelot sighed, taking a breath before looking at the new knight.

"My name is Camelot, Page of Earth. I imagine... you're a little confused... you did very well, though, for someone who only just discovered their weapon!" Cue, supportive dad speech. He couldn't help it. She seemed so young and he knew very well that she was new, so she obviously needed someone to look out for her.

Hesperis hadn't exactly gotten the memo why dusting youma was being refereed to as such - so she got a nice big breath of dust of unknown origin, and thus started coughed.

"Oh god I swallowed some !!!" She managed in between two coughs. "Gross !"

It took a moment before she finally stopped, throat raw but hopefully free of youma dust. "God that is gross, do they all do that ?"

She was going to need bottled water before she went back to dorm.

"Uhm, thanks ?" She didn't look like she knew how to deal with said compliment - her father probably didn't even know she existed, and her mother certainly had never cared enough to compliment her on anything. "Im... Hesperis, page of.... Mercury ?" It all came at once, that knowledge, once she spared a second to think about it. She just seemed to know. "This is ******** up..."

"Oh, I'm sorry... I should have warned you about that. I've taken a few mouthfuls in my time, as well. It's not... ah... fun..." Camelot looked sheepish, feeling bad that he hadn't let her know that simple fact. He wasn't the best teacher.

Not yet, anyway.

But it occurred to him that he would need to be. The more experienced he became, the more he wanted to aid others like him. Senshi and Knights telling him all about the war he was now a part of had been the most important part of his development, and his continued survival. It was his duty to pass that information on.

"They do, I'm afraid. But it's better than having monster bodies all over the place," though, breathing them in when they died all the time just wasn't that fun.

He smiled, nodding his head.

"Don't worry, it's a lot to take in all at once. You know a few things right off the bat, like you're name and what you represent. The rest you sort of... have to figure out as you go. What you fight for, if you want to fight at all, what your new abilities mean to and for you. All... uh... heavier things than I meant to bring up right away. Ah! Well. If you have any questions..."
PostPosted: Mon Jul 11, 2011 6:49 pm

"That's okay." She couldn't blame him - if she had been in his position, she wasn't sure if her first thing in her priorities to say would have been 'oh, by the way, these shits explode into dust, try not to eat it.'

Nonetheless, youma dust tasted really, really gross. "There's a water fountain near here, right ?" She hoped there was - she wasn't sure if she had the spare change for a water bottle, and she didn't want to go all the way back to St-Mags with that taste in her mouth. Ugh...

"So wait, basically our job is to kill these ********, right ?" She... could get used to this. Now that the initial fear had worn off, she was left with the adrenaline rush of all adrenaline rushes.

Suddently, she spotted something - and bent over to retrieve her skateboard. One wheel was missing, and there were scratches all over the back. "...I guess now I have a good reason to repaint it ?"

"Ah, I think there might be," he said, but he had no real idea. He was just being hopeful, if he were honest: he wasn't as familiar with this area as he wanted to be. At least not in the little details like water fountains. But he didn't want to tell her that one.

"Well, I mean. Yes. We are capable of exterminating the youma around here, which will keep the civilians safe. They feed off people's energy and these glowing crystals inside of each of us. Starseeds. They kill people to eat those. As a knight, I imagine it's our duty to, you know, make sure that, at least, doesn't happen."

He frowned at the poor skateboard, a helpless victim of the night. He smiled, though, nodding his head.

"Ah. There are others like us. Knights, as we are, or Senshi. They fight for good, but they are in a war with the Negaverse, and their ideas might be separate to ours. You feel that energy coming off of me? You'll be able to tell a negaverse or someone on their side from their chaotic energy, while a senshi feels much more pure. It's their war that causes the most damage, to each other and to the city, as well as the innocent people trying to live their normal lives here. I believe another part of our duty is to end that fighting."

He took a breath, his lecture getting a bit long.

"There's actually a lot to think about and get to know. It might seem a little complicated but..." it totally was, "there are a few of us who can help."
