(This is actually a copy and paste of my post in the forums on a subject of the same name. I felt that you all would be far more likely to answer my questions as my topics often times go ignored in the forums, lol.)
Okay, so I happen to be a frequent player of tabletop roleplaying games (namely dungeons and dragons) and I am currently in the process of doing research for a character. The people I play with, typically try to stick close to the legends of the actual monsters used in the stories and I am doing research to make a character a monster/vampire hunter. I was hoping for help in research of certain items and objects that, in folklore and legend, contain a magical property of some kind in warding off monsters. (In particular, undead or vampires, or anything that could possibly be used as one's minions.)
To give you a general idea of what I am talking about, and what I have so far in regards to a list of items my character would need to actually fulfill this mission. Some of these are magical and some are not, but I have been comprising a list based upon what I've read seems to work well against vampires/monsters in folklore and literature:
The kit as it stands so far:
* Holy Water
* Eucharist Wafer
* Garlic
* Salts
* A crow as a pet (possibly)
* Cross or holy symbol of some kind
* Mirror
* Daggers
* Pistols (Specifically black powder, wheel lock)
* Crossbow
* Hammer
* Wooden Stakes
* Torches
* Wooden box with a cross or holy symbol upon it (to contain the smaller religious or magical accouterments)
* Bible or holy text
* Silver bullets (For the wheel lock pistols)
* Vial(s) of Acid (Not really supernatural, just a personal preference)
* Iron horseshoe with 7 nail-holes
* Wolfsbane
Okay, so that's finished with. Now, as I said before, my main aim here is to focus upon old legends and folklore regarding the creatures and I am doing research for a game. I am hoping to obtain some input from others who might know certain legends regarding the magical properties of mundane items that might ward off certain creatures (of any variety, I am trying to immerse myself in all of the knowledge I can acquire.) Any help and input is greatly appreciated.

To give you some perspective on the matter, the setting of the game is in the early to mid 17th century. As for the character I am playing (for those who are familiar with tabletop rpgs or DND) the class is to be cleric. I wanted to portray him as sort of somewhere in between Abraham Van Helsing and Solomon Kane (with a bit of my own personality sprinked in, of course).
As for the setting itself, if you are familiar with ravenloft from AD&D it is something similar to this. If you are not, the setting is basically situated in the middle of either an alternate dimension controlled by an evil vampire (and his servants) or a distant land within the actual world that is controlled by the same.
