xxxxxxxxx◆ secret connection to the man with daily letters to him.

xxxxxxxxx◆ portals connected to each other, if something were to pass through
xxxxxxxxx◆ one portal they would end up coming out of the other one. She can
xxxxxxxxx◆ usually open 2 of these at a time, the third one really gets to her as
xxxxxxxxx◆ opening portals takes a lot of energy. The further apart or the more
xxxxxxxxx◆ portals she has open, the more energy she needs to keep them going.

xxxxxxxxx◆ Kathleen, Basia's mother used to be a carefree woman who
xxxxxxxxx◆ had successfully taken over her family's seamstress boutique,
xxxxxxxxx◆ had always wanted to get married and have children. When
xxxxxxxxx◆ Rodrick came into the picture, he swept Kathleen off her feet
xxxxxxxxx◆ so fast she never saw the danger coming. When she got
xxxxxxxxx◆ pregnant and annouced this to Rodrick, even suggesting that
xxxxxxxxx◆ they should get married, things started going downhill.
xxxxxxxxx◆ Kathleen did not know as much about Rodick as she
xxxxxxxxx◆ suspected, and when he vanished she was heart broken. Her
xxxxxxxxx◆ paranoia however started bubbling when men in suits started
xxxxxxxxx◆ coming around asking her questions, watching her and
xxxxxxxxx◆ following her.

xxxxxxxxx◆ Apparently, Rodrick was a theif, and a very dangerous one.

xxxxxxxxx◆ Scared, pregnant and completely clueless as to what was
xxxxxxxxx◆ happening, Kathleen left the shop to a good friend with a
xxxxxxxxx◆ promise to return. She fled to Sewit, hiding out until she gave
xxxxxxxxx◆ birth to Basia. With the birth of her daughter came the first of
xxxxxxxxx◆ many letters from Rodrick, where ever he was he swore he
xxxxxxxxx◆ would keep her and their child safe. He also mentioned that
xxxxxxxxx◆ their daughter would perhaps take quite a bit after her father,
xxxxxxxxx◆ and that Basia should be protected. It was a few years later
xxxxxxxxx◆ when Basia opened her first portal that Kathleen realized that
xxxxxxxxx◆ her eyes weren't the only thing off about the little girl. However,
xxxxxxxxx◆ Kathleen raised her daughter to the best of her abilities,
xxxxxxxxx◆ receiving letters everyday from Rodrick, and sometimes
xxxxxxxxx◆ instructions for the little girls powers.

xxxxxxxxx◆ Rodrick had also suggested a private tutor, the less people
xxxxxxxxx◆ saw Basia, the less she was likely to attract the wrong kind of
xxxxxxxxx◆ people. So every day, a private tutor came to instruct the little
xxxxxxxxx◆ girl, Kathleen had severly warned her about using her powers
xxxxxxxxx◆ in front of others, even going as far as scolding Basia if she
xxxxxxxxx◆ opened up portals for fun. But the little girl dreamed of leaving,
xxxxxxxxx◆ dreamed of exploring the vast planet and seeing new places.
xxxxxxxxx◆ She read books and devoured through her lessons so fast
xxxxxxxxx◆ that her instructor was bringing home atleast a dozen books
xxxxxxxxx◆ for her to read ever week. In secret Rodrick married Kathleen,
xxxxxxxxx◆ and told her about the secret island, Kathleen agreed this
xxxxxxxxx◆ would be the best option for their daughter.

xxxxxxxxx◆ The day before Basia left to go to the academy, while she was
xxxxxxxxx◆ out at the library getting a book, someone caught her using her
xxxxxxxxx◆ powers. It was innocent enough, the book was on a topshelf
xxxxxxxxx◆ she couldn't reach and she'd opened up a portal to get the
xxxxxxxxx◆ book. This time Rodrick went straight to Kathleen, warning her
xxxxxxxxx◆ of the imment danger that was approaching, Basia needed to
xxxxxxxxx◆ leave, and soon. Rodrick left before his daughter came home,
xxxxxxxxx◆ Kathleen was already packing up her things when someone
xxxxxxxxx◆ knocked on the door. Kathleen hide, watching the shadow
xxxxxxxxx◆ under the door as the person tried the door to see if it was
xxxxxxxxx◆ unlocked. The person left, Basia came home and Kathleen
xxxxxxxxx◆ rushed her out of the house towards the location of the
xxxxxxxxx◆ helicopter that Basia was to take.

xxxxxxxxx◆ Whatever Rodrick had done in his past would certianly affect
xxxxxxxxx◆ Basia's future.

xxxxxxxxx◆ Intelligent : Basia takes a lot of pride in her vast knowledge of the
xxxxxxxxx◆ world from all her reading, and this makes her very smart and
xxxxxxxxx◆ sometimes a show off. She will experiment with a situation and
xxxxxxxxx◆ analysis it before she steps into it. Puzzles, games that need
xxxxxxxxx◆ lots of thinking are an easy brainer to her to the point that they
xxxxxxxxx◆ actually bore her. She likes a good challenge that will make
xxxxxxxxx◆ her think beyond what she is used to.

xxxxxxxxx◆ Calm : Basia's reactions are minimal at best. There are few situations
xxxxxxxxx◆ where one can really get under her skin. Dealing with her
xxxxxxxxx◆ mother's panic every single day has given her the necessary
xxxxxxxxx◆ disciple for her to stay calm around situtations or individuals that
xxxxxxxxx◆ are in a panic. Keeping calm allows her to keep a steady head on
xxxxxxxxx◆ her shoulders, and leaves little space for things to go wrong.

xxxxxxxxx◆ Curious : Basia has been cooped up her whole life, so there’s a ton
xxxxxxxxx◆ of things that she don’t know yet or has yet to experience...
xxxxxxxxx◆ but she's dying to learn it all! If something catches her
xxxxxxxxx◆ interested, or someone you can be sure she's going
xxxxxxxxx◆ to ask as many questions as she can to get as much
xxxxxxxxx◆ information as possible until her curiosity is satisfied.
xxxxxxxxx◆ Dare her to do something she's never done, and she'll
xxxxxxxxx◆ be curious enough to try it, even if it's a little dangerous.



xxxxxxxxx◆ Over thinker : Basia has a tendency to over think a lot of situations
xxxxxxxxx◆ she's in, this is often the case when she's asked to explain
xxxxxxxxx◆ something. Her mind will try to explain every single detail,
xxxxxxxxx◆ when in reality all you wanted was a “yes” or “no answer
xxxxxxxxx◆ from her. This trait is also present in social encounters, she
xxxxxxxxx◆ may take a smile for something more after a few moments
xxxxxxxxx◆ of reflection. In the future, she will try to over think battle
xxxxxxxxx◆ situations that leave her vulnerable.

xxxxxxxxx◆ Stubborn : Basia does not wield to the instructions of others, so you best
xxxxxxxxx◆ believe that she is only going to do what she thinks will be best for
xxxxxxxxx◆ herself or, in some cases, those very close to her. Once Basia
xxxxxxxxx◆ has made up her mind, there is a very slim chance that anyone
xxxxxxxxx◆ will ever really persuade her into changing it. You could try. She'll
xxxxxxxxx◆ consider your argument, then act on her own accord.
xxxxxxxxx◆ Furthermore, it is nearly impossible to shake her morals and
xxxxxxxxx◆ opinions.

xxxxxxxxx◆ Hubris : This is not the "an A+ student" proud. This is the "oh my gosh
xxxxxxxxx◆ that girl is such a b***h" proud, otherwise known as arrogance or
xxxxxxxxx◆ hubris. Because she's intelligent, she doesn't like to be wrong.
xxxxxxxxx◆ Nor does she like others to do anything for her. Basia prefer to
xxxxxxxxx◆ take care of herself only for herself. If it happens to benefit others,
xxxxxxxxx◆ then whoop-de-doo. This "pride" thing is her fatal flaw. It is a huge
xxxxxxxxx◆ part of the reason she is stubborn.

xxxxxxxxx◆ mothers paranoia sent her there, she thought someone would come
xxxxxxxxx◆ knocking on their door at anytime and take her daughter away. The
xxxxxxxxx◆ academy, which was away and secrative seemed like the best of their
xxxxxxxxx◆ options. It took a very long time for her mother to find the right
xxxxxxxxx◆ "people" to intrust her daughter to, and off Basia went to the academy.

lmao, either basia and anemone will get along wonderfully or terribly. they're pretty similar, except basia has an attitude where anemone is socially awkward/shy xD

i think gateway is an awesome name for her, fits pretty perfectly

What size are her portals roughly? Does size affect how much effort goes into them? If so, would one massive portal take as much energy as like 6 little ones or something? Can living things go through the portals? Can technology? I'm assuming she can, but can she bring people, too?

if you're gunna take the dimensional portal route, you could do a nightcrawler-like character, which would explain how the normal portals work too :3c

her portals, does she need to see/visualize where the portals appear or lead to? a la Nightcrawler? 8D

and her eyes, they're a pretty unusual colour so, doesn't she get weird looks if she goes outside? Or does Kathleen keep her indoors under lock and key? Or is there some kind of "tell that to anyone who asks" explanation for them?

plus, I noticed she's 20, but there isn't much about her childhood? Or maybe you wanted to keep that as a mystery idk rofl

and also, inter dimensional travel is ... complicated, and iffy because it opens up a LOT of possibilities for god modding. I get the sense that you're adding it because its going to be somehow tied to Rodrick/her origins so I don't want to tell you straight out NO, but yeah, if its not we'd prefer that there was't inter dimensional travel at all o uob

to clarify- i meant that nightcrawler, when he teleports, actually jumps to another dimension, walks through that dimension or w/e he does, and poofs back in another location. xD; thats what i mean, like, the regular portals could actually have to do with other dimensions and stuff. orz idk if that makes sense.

For the space portals once I add the little bit to it that I wanted it should make sense <3

Now for her portals. I originally though of her portals as a one way mirror, which is somewhat explained in my prompt response.
Anyways, when she opens up a portal, the facade facing her she can see that's on other other side, there's nothing blocking. But to anyone looking into the portal from the other side will see what the other portal is facing.

Example since this may get a bit complicated.
P1 is opened in front of a tree.
P2 is opened in front of a flower.
Basia is in the middle of these two portals. She can see clearly the tree from P1 and the flower form P2.
Anyone looking into P1 will see the flower.
Anyone looking into P2 will see the tree.
If you pass through P1 you end up coming out of P2 and vice versa.

She can make a third portal and go around jumping from one to the other xD

Think of it as bunny hopping.
She jumps into P1 exits at P3.
She jumps into P3 and ends up in P2.
I think of the travelling as if she was at the water park in those massive water slides example. Except that she can reconnect and change their connection as she goes.
