A Note from Cricket

My Office. Now

It had been a very foreboding note on the front of several student doors.

Cricket's office still remained rather clean, though the minipet she'd had sitting in there earlier had been removed, possibly for treatment elsewhere. Which meant what she had done earlier had not been what this group should have been expecting to find waiting for them.

However, it would possibly be another test of observation as the one earlier had been.

Cricket herself sat on the cot, one leg crossed over the other, scarf removed and her hair billowing out and each piece seeming to peel apart into a series of curls and twists that resembled the same markings that marked her body.

Her fingers were knitted together and she seemed to not be in the mood for nonsense.

"You're late." she said firmly. Clearly she'd been expecting students to be able to teleport.

There is a board game in Cricket's hands. Her fingers drum on it, her face serious. It seems whatever she has is serious business.

"When everybody arrives, I will explain to you the rules of the game and we will get started. However, just because this is a game, does not mean your exam will be an easy playtime." she says.

Hmm.

What game does she have there, anyways?

OOC NOTE: THIS IS AFTER PROM. Just be vague about prom-talk and you'll be fine. <3
PostPosted: Mon Jun 27, 2011 11:15 am

Though normally, Aksaja wouldn't be the first to arrive for just about any sort of class-like activity . . . this time, the lightning dragon was. Those glowing bugs at the Prom had apparently really freaked him out. Because, upon seeing the note on his door, he'd spat out a low curse, then headed straight for the balcony and leapt into the air from his room to fly over here at top speed.

Teachers liked people to be on time, right? Jack. And then he was somehow late anyway, or so Cricket said. Dammit. "Erm, sorry . . . " he said, panting softly still from his flight as his wings twitched with a combination of nerves and weariness.

Glancing to the board game, the dragon boil frowned slightly, tilting head a little to try and get a look at the name of the thing. He'd never really played such games - other than one his father preferred that was a type of strategy game with two teams of opposing colors. This didn't look anything like that game. I mean, what was with the . . . skeleton?

Lizzy was nervous, although she was trying really hard not to show it on her face as she walked into Nurse Cricket's office, bowing her head at the nurse upon entering. When informed that she was 'late', the ghoul frowned, her nervousness showing even as she tried to hide it; was she going to get kicked out? She had came down as fast as she could! She didn't even bother to do her hair or clothes or-

Oh, she wasn't going to get kicked out?

A relieved sigh left as lips as she nodded to show that she understood her instructions; now to wait, huh? She inhaled deeply, staying near the nurse and board game as she tried to calm her nerves before the exam starts for real.

Prom and then exams...Alessa, who was normally very organized, a natural early bird, felt rather thrown together and haphazard. It had been just too much, too close together. It didn't help that she must have misread the time for her exam, because even though she had walked briskly to where the exam was being held, she was still deemed "late" when she walked in. She reigned in an exasperated sigh, allowing to only escape as something small and a bit shaky.

She passed Aksaja and Lizzy a searching glance, torn between nervousness and forced calm. It was just an exam. She could handle it, right? Though looking at the game before her she felt her stomach twist a little. It didn't look familiar in the slightest. Studying didn't do much good when you were faced with something like that. Well, improvisation was an important skill, right? It wasn't one she was sure she had, but they'd probably soon find out. Great.

Aksaja wasn't entirely sure they were allowed to talk before the exam started, but after a single nervous glance at Cricket, he offered the two ghouls a faint smile. "Heya Lizzy, Alessa . . . apparently we're all late." Somehow. I mean, how were they expected to be on time if they didn't get any warning aside from a note? Geez.

"Ever seen this kinda game before?" he asked then, nodding his head in a faint motion toward the board the teacher was holding. Maybe one of them had a better idea of what the Jack was going on here.

The black dog had been rather fidgety since finding the note on his door. What as it about? Had he done something wrong? Or was it exams...? If anything he was kind of hoping it wasn't the latter. Exams were a big deal. Not like classes---well... more than classes anyways and he was a slacker. What happened if he didn't pay attention enough in class and didn't learn enough or something? Also there rumors about this particular teacher. Was Nurse Cricket really as cranky as the he heard? He wasn't sure. He had only met her a few times during class... What if she was worse than Hellma...? Oh Jack! Too many of these sort of questions were constantly running around in his head, to the point that he actually felt sick

...

Well he was at the right place anyways.

Though the moment he entered the room, he was honestly confused at the sight. What was she holding? Some sort of game board? Were they going to play a game? That sounded better than Hellma's class, or even Savage's... But then again, every teacher should be feared. So rather than show any sign of relief, he instead eyed the board with caution and took his seat; mumbling an apology for tardiness ( despite having ran the whole way ).

Astra had been fretting about the exams for a few weeks now, Thinking and planning and studying and doing whatever she could to prepare for them. But the moment she had seen the note on her door she had almost passed out from sheer terror. Not just because she was sure she was being summoned for a exam, but because it was a note from Nurse cricket. The very same teacher whom she had seen 'eat' a student (he was puked back up unharmed, but still...)

She had flown as quickly as she could to Nurse Crickets office, but peeking inside she could see she was quite late. Everyone else was here already! For a second she stalled at the door, then steeled her nerves and walked inside looking as determined as she possible could. She would do this, she would use every ounce of brain power she could summon up to dot his exam!

Now, if only her knees would stop shaking...

"s-sorry I'm late" She said, moving towards the other students and noticing the board nurse cricket had in her hands. That...looked odd.

Cricket surveyed the group, before suddenly her hands lit up and the board she held in her hand began to glow, pockets in the board charged with various colors. Holding up one hand, a pair of metallic tweezers sat in her palms. She set the board down and carefully set the tweezers on top of it.

.......

"Human children supposedly play a very similar game of this known as 'Operation'. However, while there are less slots in my game, the stakes are also just a bit higher." The way she said it was enough; this game was probably going to end up with someone getting hurt in some shape or form. Coming to Amityville was not a thing that said 'Hi, make life easy for you'.

"I will be buffering your health for this game. That means that until each of you have been shocked five times by the game, you will remain conscious."

...
.....

Shocked??

Cricket smiled a bit.

"Inside each pocket is FEAR. It will dissipate upon being removed. However, that isn't what you should be concerned with. What you need to worry about is getting it out. "

With that, Cricket sat back to see how the group would handle it. She'd said it wasn't just playtime, after all.

The OOC

The Rules are Relatively Simple:

  • This is a dice game!
  • The point of the game is to remove a piece from every slot. If you hit the side, your student got zapped. Literally. Their fingers will go numb and everything!
  • Each color has a dice attached to it.
-Blue is the easiest to remove. Roll one 4d. If you roll 2-4, you got it out! If you roll a 1, the piece remains in place and you got zapped!
-Light Blue is the next easiest. Roll one 8d. If you roll above 3 (this means between 4-8 ), you removed the piece. If not, you got zapped and the piece still remains in place!
-Yellow is next. Roll a 10d. If you roll an even number, the piece is removed. If not, BZZT!
-Red. Roll a 12d. You must get above 6 (7-12) to remove the piece.
-Pink Roll a 20d. If you roll a multiple of 5, the piece is removed.
-Green The hardest piece. Roll one 100d. You must get a multiple of 10 to remove this piece.
  • When you go to remove a piece, bold the color you are going for and whether or not your student succeeded. I will be keeping tally of how many times each student gets shocked, but it might be safe for you to keep track of it yourself, just to be safe!
  • I will not be mediating the rounds of this game, just to allow the exam to go as quickly as possible. Every player must have a chance before you can try again however. This means one player can't just sit there and try to pull out all of the pieces by themselves.
  • Once all the pieces of the board have been removed, the exam is over... if you're still conscious, you've passed!
  • You can roll before you make your RP post to go with it, but do not forget to post the RP portion! Cricket may make bad things happen if you do.

"Ah..." Lizzy murmured, frowning as she looked at the board game, eyeing the different colored pieces; a shock? She wasn't sure how bad it would be, but she wasn't eager to find out. Taking the metallic tweezers in her hand, her frown deepened ever so slightly as she bent over the board game. Trying to steady her hand, she took a deep breath and attempted to pick up the blue piece, brows furrowed in concentration.

To her relief, the FEAR inside dissipated as she succeeded, earning a smile from her as she straightened up.

... She also released the breathe she didn't realize that she had been holding.

So it was a game they were playing and some surgical one at that. Though that was to be expected. Still, as mush as he liked games, this one came with a risk. A painful one at that. Which, normally, would make things more interesting. But when said game played a part in your grades for your exam... it kind of had the opposite effect.

Forcing himself to calm down, Tybalt grabbed hold of one of the tweezers that were laid out for them and approached the game board that was now lit.

Now, he was no a surgeon, nor was he all for this healing crap that others were learning, but it didn't mean he wasn't going to do his best and complete this game. Or at least try to. So, edging closer, he settled for one of the easier spots. A light blue one. Thinking it was better to work your way up and get a little experience before trying the riskier areas.

Apparently it was the right choice. Since he successfully retrieved the prize, without getting shocked.

What in the hell did THIS have to do with anything they'd learned? Aksaja stared at the game board, and then looked around to each of the others. This was weird.

This whole school was weird. The lightning dragon folded arms over his chest, watching as first Lizzy, then Tybalt successfully removed the pieces that looked the easiest to get out. Hmph. Well, that was all fine and good for them, but someone would have to be willing to go after the hard ones. And really, he was probably the best choice for that, seeing as the punishment was an electrical shock. Heh.

Stepping up next, Aksaja aimed the tweezers for the hardest of them all, the green piece with a deep breath and a muttered comment. "Damn, why can't Malodore be here . . ."

Moving very slowly, the tweezers approached the tiny green heart of the skeleton . . . and everything was going fine . . . Up until someone else in the room shifted for some reason and broke the dragon boil's concentration.

The tweezers hit the side. And Aksaja jumped and spat out a curse as the game shocked him. JACKING HELL! That hurt a lot more than he'd thought it would! The tweezers had fallen to the floor when his hand spasmed and he dropped them, and the lightning dragon backed away from the board, holding his now-numb hand. s**t, you'd think being a LIGHTNING DRAGON would make him able to stand that a little better. Dammit.

Oh dear Jack. Alessa stared at the board, feeling nervousness overtake anything else she had been feeling. This...didn't seem to be much of a test of learning. It seemed more geared towards steady hands and luck. Now, the former she could have in a few cases when cooking something delicate but...feeling the pace of her heart pick up she wasn't sure she could maintain it. She watched Lizzy and Tybalt go first, biting her lower lip in anticipation as she watched them. They both came out fine. Well, maybe this wasn't as bad as she-

BZZZZTTTT~!

Alessa squeaked, jumping a bit as she saw Aksaja take a hit. "Are you alright?" She blurted before she could stop herself, though honestly it was a stupid question; he had just been shocked after all. But this was Aksaja...if he couldn't handle the shock, she didn't want to think about how it would feel if she missed...

Hesitantly she took the tweezers and eyed the board. Something easy? Something hard? Instead she noted there were a lot of yellow pieces...they had to go sometime. Best to get started on them, right? So she reached out carefully towards one of the yellow pieces in the lower legs...

BZZZZZTTTTT~!

This time Alessa squawked. Not only had the shock hurt, but now her hand was burning, tingling, to the point where she couldn't feel anything else, couldn't move it. It was numbed up terribly. So much for helping. "S-sorry..."

Astra didn't know weather to be relieved, let down, or even more petrified at what their 'task' was to be. They had to pull out pieces of FEAR and hope they wouldn't get shocked?

It sounded easy, but she was sure there was a catch. And as she looked at each piece she realized that there was; they were all different shapes and sizes, meaning that some were easier tog et out then others.

She watched them each take a turn at trying to pull a piece out, some more successful then others. Finally it was her turn, and she picked up the tweezers and stood there trying to decide which piece she would attempt to pull out. Should she go for easy, or hard?

Perhaps going for a nice medium would work.

She noticed that no one had tried to take out the pink one, so taking a steady breath she reached down, tweezers clasping around the pink piece...

"BBBBBZZZZZZT"

"YEOOWWW!" She immediately let go of the tweezers, standing back and holding her arm as her fingers went momentarily numb from the shock. Damn, did that hurt like hell...

Maybe someone would have better luck then her?
