Eeee! How exciting! She'd been hoping to come across something good, and sure enough, there it was!
Ka'ohu had been following the lazy, circular motions of the vultures for a while now, always preferring to scavenge over hunting. Hunting left her completely exhausted and more often than not, the energy was put to waste. No, much better to wait for someone else to land a kill and then steal it from under their noses. Oh yes indeed!
Hence, when she saw the half-eaten carcass partially hidden amongst the tall grasses, she paused to check her surroundings before diving in to feast. She'd have her full and then drag the rest of it back to Dev'i...oh and Ceyx too, she supposed. She just wished that he'd move on already. Her son was growing rapidly and he seemed to have learnt a lot about being a warrior. Surely there was no point for Ceyx to stick around now, was there? Maybe she'd ask him about it later. After all, she didn't much care about stepping on his feelings.
Reaching the carcass, she nosed at it a little and then settled down on her belly to eat. The first mouthful was splendid and after a few ravenous bites, decided that she'd really outdone herself this time.
Sadly, so engrossed in what she was doing, she did not notice that she was no longer alone. Behind her, only a few paces away, was a hyena. She was sandy pelted with tribal marks donning her face. Big, thick and burly, she did not look happy at all to see the lion there. Padding alongside her was a small, burly jackal, his grey face contrasting greatly with the dark fur of his pelt.
"She's eating our dinner, Orenda." He pointed out.
"I can see that myself. You, be ready to back me up if she tries anything." With a loud snort, the female hyena made her presence known and Ka'ohu whipped around to face her challenger.
If it had been a lioness - or even another lion - Ka might have tried to defend her newly found prize. However, hyenas were known for their fierce jaws and their stubborn natures. Messing with one might not be the best idea. It also didn't make things any better that the hyena had a companion with her.
"This 'ere, is mine! Ge' lost!" Ka'ohu huffed, though she took a step back.
Orenda snarled. "I think you're mistaken. That is mine. Right, Saren?"
The jackal laughed. "Yours. Definitely."
"So." The hyena continued. "Are you going to make this difficult?" She was moving forwards all the while, taunting Ka to go for her.
The female lioness backed up another step, growling softly in return.
"She's frightened." Saren pointed out. "This won't be a problem."
Ka'ohu's anger flared and, without warning, she dived straight at the hyena, intent on taking her by surprise. With any luck, Orenda would flee and she could be left in peace.
Unfortunately, Orenda did not flee. With a snapping of jaws they locked in the briefest of brawls. Ka'ohu felt fur beneath her teeth and then a slice of pain just behind her shoulder. With a startled gasp, she tore herself free, feeling a flare of heat where she'd been injured. Blinking, she backed right off and the hyena stepped past her, straight to the food.
The jackal, with a smirk, followed after Orenda, though kept his distance as the clearly dominant canine settled to eat.
Ka'ohu, wounded and angry, turned and began a painful walk home.

Ceyx was out wandering for the day. He began with sparing with Dez'i for a little before heading out to the watering hole to spend some time. However now he headed toward home looking around as he did. He knew that Dez'i was going to be out during the day however as he entered the den an noticed that some one was missing. He knew who it was, he was wondering where Ka was. He knew that she said she was going to go out for a little while but right now he had no clue in the world where she was. He wasn't going to life though he was worried about where she was.
There was another thing that he coudn't lie about. He really cared about Ka, he liked her a lot, but the thing was he just knew that she didn't like him. He sighed slightly before he got up. He had been waiting for a little while with out acting however now he just wanted to figure out where she was and if she was okay. He trotted quickly trying to follow her scent into where she was. Moving as quickly as he could. He slowed down some as he could smell the lioness close, he was wondering where she was.
He paused for a moment as he caught the scent of the lioness and the moved faster as he go closer and closer to the lioness then paused looking as he caught sight of the lioness. "Ka!" He called out slowing down he wasn't sure if he wanted to run up to her but he wanted to make sure she was okay. "Ka! Are you okay?" He asked curiously. She didn't seem to be that great. Or at least thats what it looked like.

She growled at the sound of his voice, more out of habit than actually being mad at him. No. She wasn't mad. Embarrassed maybe. In pain maybe. But, inwardly, she was glad that he was here, though why he was such a distance from the temporary den she didn't know. Had he come to check up on her, or what?
As he approached, she slumped onto her belly and gave a pained growl. "Ah'm fine. Ah'm fine. Dun fuss o'er me, eh." She craned her head back to inspect the wound left by that filthy hyena's jaws and gave a pained wince. It wasn't too deep but it would restrict movement for a while. Not being able to walk very far was not a good thing. Not a good thing at all. It'd also leave her vulnerable and that was definitely not good. Not if the male finally decided to show his true colours. Ugh! If only it had been Dez'i and not Ceyx to have found her.
"Stoopid hyena took ma kill." She explained. "What're yoos doin' 'ere? Where's Dez'i?" She tried to look around him to see if - by chance - the white male was with him.
Sadly not.
"So yah...no food t'day." She grouched.

Ceyx was used to that growl, it was kind of cute, in a way he couldn't help but to smile, at times he liked to pretend it was a special greeting to him. Then again she didn't even never seen her happy with him. But yet at the same time he had a feeling that she was starting to get used to him. He was there all the time it would be odd if she wasn't getting used to him yet. He flicked his hair out of his eyes before looking at the lioness and shaking his head. He could be stubborn when he wanted to be too. "No! Look, that is something to fuss over." He pointed out as he joined her by her side. "I'm going to help you, lean on me." He was being pushier then normal but at the same time it was how he was when something wrong was going on.
He paused for a moment and then spoke. "Well Dez'i is out exploring, you know him." He chuckled some before shrugging quietly. "And I knew you were out for a while and I wanted to make sure that you were okay." He admitted before thinking for a moment. "When we get home I have some things laying around that you can put on it. Something that my mom taught me."
He paused realizing how awkward he must have bene making her. He knew that she didn't like all of this affection stuff. He then shrugged it off and said something a little more off topic. "It's okay maybe Dez'i can joing me later for a hunt?"

She huffed, hesitating for a moment. Would she be able to lean on him? Really...? She tried to stand again, giving a pained growl as she did so. Taking a few more steps for home, she paused and tested the weight on each of her paws.
Ugh...okay, so it might help to have someone to lean on.
"Fine. Fine. Come 'ere." She side-stepped closer to him, growling all the while under her breath. "Dun thin' I won' be watchin' yoos. Try anythin' an' ah'll bite yer face off." She chuckled a little, but that didn't suggest that she was joking.
"Ah'd like tah see yah try huntin'. Ain't as easy as it looks, yah knows." And she knew because she'd had very few successful hunts in her lifetime.

Ceyx relaxed some as the lioness leaned into him. He was glad that she wasn't being stubborn for a little bit. She was letting him help her and that made him pretty happy. He could at least get her home and get her wound cleaned up. If she let him that is. He was hoping that she was going to let him. If not he was going to have to show Dez'i sneakily when he got home so some one could at least do it. He didn't like the idea of some one hurt in the party. He chuckled some, he had a feeling it was less of a joke and kind of serious but at least he could take it lightly for now. "I understand." He commented simply back to her he wanted to make sure that she understood what she was saying.
He chuckled for a few moments and then smiled. "I've done it once or twice in my life." He paused before nodding at the idea. "I'm pretty sure that me and Dez'i can manage... I hope." He paused before chuckling once again. "If you want you can join us and watch." He winked at her playfully and looked around. "Almost there." He said with a smile on his face.

"Watch? Really? Ha! Nah I'd scare all the beasts of wi' ma laughin'." She gave a grumbling laugh. "Ah ain't expectin' much of yah, to tell the truth. Males dun hunt. Too fat and lazy, eh?"
She paused then, realising that this conversation at taken a companionable turn. When had that happened? He was still a male even if she did know him and males weren't to be trusted. Ever. She thought she'd known the last male she had cared for and he'd turned out to be nothing more than using her.
Tensing, the muscle in her jaw locked and she remained silent until they reached their makeshift den-site, finally breaking away from him and limping across to lay in the shade.
"Well, there we go. Back." She snorted, growling quietly to herself. She sure wished Dez'i was here...

Ceyx looked at the female, he was pleasantly surprised with how things were going with the Ka. She normally wasn't joking around with him. She normally didn't joke with him at all, only with Dez'i that was the only other male he had seen her joke with. The thing is, that was her son. Well adoptive son but in his mind it still didn't count! "Just lazy and fat!?" He said jokingly another chuckle escaping his throat before then smiling. "You know, there are some rogues that can hunt. I think we can figure it out!" He chuckled once again thinking about it. He knew that him and Dez'i could figure out something.
But he was surprised, well not exactly by her behavior but more of by the suddenness of it. He had a feeling him and her getting along was too good to be true but at the same time it was still a little startling. He looked at her and then shook his head heading off to the side going through where he kept some herbs. He turned toward her and shook her head. He was done being pushed around. "Look. You're hurt," He turned for a moment sorting through a few more things and grabbing them in his teeth before dropping them by the lioness's side. He looked down as he started to poke through the things in front of him. "I'm going to put some stuff on it so at least it'll maybe heal faster." He said simply before flicking his hair out of his eyes, still looking down starting to smash some of the leaves on a slab of rock with his paws. There was one thing that did come in handy when he learned from his pride, he was raised to be a renaissance man really everyone in his pride was to be. But the main things he caught on to were fighting and healing.

She watched him with a mix of curioisty and mistrust, growling quietly under her breath the whole time. Inwardly she was hoping that Dez'i would come back and she could slip away whilst they got distracted talking about fighting and hunting.
She had a feeling that wasn't going to happen, though...
And now that he was growing...was he going to spend more and more time away from her and out there having his own life? The thought worried her. Dez'i was the only one she had been able to trust. He looked to her as a mother, not as a female and that made a world of difference.
"Ah'm watchin' yoos, Ceyx." She continued. "Yah be'er not try anythin' funny else yah're gonna regret it." Her ears flattened, but after a moment she turned to begin cleaning out her wound.

Ceyx sighed for a moment shaking his head at her. "I know, I know, you're always watching me." He commented, he was a little annoyed. He had heard it so many times there was many, many times where he had heard those words from the female.
He worked quickly and quietly, moving over to her side and then he started to rub some of the greens on the wound. He had used this combination before. He knew that it stung a little, but he knew that the lioness could handle it, she was a rough one. Or at least that was his impression of her. She always seemed like she could handle it. He sat back after putting it on and smiled slightly at his work before turning to her. "Thats it, I'd keep it on for a little bit and let it sit before you take it off." He paused before glancing out of the den and thinking about it for a moment. "It looks like Dez'i is coming this way. I'm going to talk to him about hunting in a little bit, but do you want me to leave?" He asked curiously to her.

She couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief as he announced that Dez'i was coming and, with a low grunt, set her head on her forepaws and turned an eye to watch him closely.
"Do wha' yoos want. Ah'm stayin' 'ere."
She was silent for a long moment, looking at him and wondering why he was helping her. Surely he had something to gain out of this. Surely he had some plot and that someday, soon, he was going to turn on her just like Ahnik had. Maybe he'd steal Dez'i away and she'd be alone again...
But...if he had a plan, she'd picked up on no sign of it. Perhaps he was good at hiding it or maybe...
Nah...
"Go on. Off wi' yah."

He looked at her and then nodded before flicking his hair out of his eyes and looking at the wound once again, he wasn't that sure of what else he could do and he knew the best thing was to just walk away now. He really wanted to make sure that sh ehad her space, he always wanted to make sure of that.
Ceyx didn't really wait for any goodbyes or thank yous before he walked away. He had a feeling they weren't going to come to him for a long time. Either way he wasn't going to leave right away and he wasn't going to give up either, he wasn't one to give up. He nodded to her before heading out of the den, he was going to walk away for a while that was until he could see Dez'i later during the day and hunt then.
