"Mommy, where are we going?" Adam asked, looking up at his mother. They'd been walking for quite some time, he thought, and she still hadn't told him where they were going to. Jillian looked down at her son and smiled, a knowing look in her eyes. "It's a surprise. I think you'll like it, though." She said cheerily, and continued walking. Adam pouted, his large ears pressing down against his neck. He didn't like not knowing, but...He supposed if his mommy said it was okay, then it was fine. Suddenly more cheerful, he gained a bounce in his step, and his tail stopped dragging against the ground. Which was a good thing, Jillian thought. It was hard enough bathing his tail without it being EXTRA dirty.
She smiled at him, and continued to lead him down the road, to a new park that had just been built. It had been, she knew, quite some time since she had brought Adam to a park. What with the incidents involving other children, she hadn't been sure...But, he had improved greatly, so she was going to reward him.
"I just want you to remember, Adam. No hitting. Okay? Especially with our tails." "Okay Mommy." Adam said, looking around as his mother stopped on a patch of grass. It didn't take the toddler long to spot why, and when he saw, he gave a squeal of delight.
"The park! Yay! Mommy, let's go on the swings!!" He insisted, tugging on her hand. Laughing, Jillian allowed herself to be towed toward the play structure, glad that Adam was so excited.

Howl had always liked parks; and he had heard about a new one that'd just been built. Though he resembled most closely a young teenager, he still felt he didn't have a reasonable excuse to be there. So he had brought Puff--who had been quite thrilled to be invited (seeing as Howl had grounded the shadow not that long ago). "Come on, Puff," the wizard said cheerfully. "I heard this is supposed to be the best park on Gaia."
Rolling green fields stretched behind a play park. Slides that wound, slides that corkscrewed, slides with bumps and turns and straight slides. Monkey bars of varying degrees. But what really caught Puff's attention was the swings.
"Pu!" the dragon like shadow said excitedly, pointing with a nondescript hand. "Pu pu! Pu!" Puff removed his hand from Howl's and with a flap of his wings, was in the air. He struggled to keep afloat, but he made it to the swings. Red and green eyes widened as he noticed Adam and Jillian. "Pu pu!" he waved at Jillian happily. He recognized her.
So did Howl. The woman he'd flirted with a while back--before he'd grown. "Beautiful as ever, Jillian," he complimented her, closing the gap between him and the swings.

Jillian was certainly surprised to see a fluttering black shape waving at her, it's mismatched eyes seeming almost manic as it struggled to stay afloat. She couldn't help but giggle, recognizing the creature, and wave back. "Well hello there, Puff. I haven't seen you in a while."
Adam looked up as he heard his mother speak, spotting the shadow immediately. He also recognized Puff and politely smiled and waved, kicking his feet gently to remind his mother that he was still on the swing, waiting to be pushed. She looked down and ruffled his hair, pulling him back and releasing him. And then she turned to Howl.
Adam almost scowled; however, he manged to stop himself. Howl was just saying hello, and so he should do the same. "'Lo, Howl." His mom had told him Howl's name before, and he recognized the boy's scent.
Jillian, on the other hand, was not as nonchalant as Adam was about Howl's appearance. "My word! Howl! What have they been feeding you? You've gotten so...tall." Last she had seen him, Howl had been just a child. How could he have grown so much? Magic?

"Pu pu!" Puff was delighted at having been recognized. The dragonic shadow didn't seem to comprehend the fact that he was easily recognized; and so it must have meant something, that Jillian knew who he was. "Pu pu uff!" he returned Adam's wave, plopping onto the ground, rather resigned to the fact that he wasn't yet able to fly as well as his friend Luka was. "Pu!" he said, smiling at Adam. What was Adam doing? Did Adam want to play? "Puu? Pu pupupuff!" The dragonic shadow climbed onto the swing next to the boy, clearly expecting Jillian to push him as well.
"Hey Adam," Howl replied, grinning at the toddler. "How are you? I don't think I've seen you since the pumpkin patch." The teenager paused, and looked back to Jillian. "Not much," he admitted; the boy was as much of a picky eater as he always had been. "I've missed seeing you, though," he said, reaching for her hand. "I told you, I'd grow. You've grown too. More beautiful."

Adam waved a bit as the older boy returned the greeting, remembering the pumpkin patch with a fond smile. He had liked it there. Briefly, he looked over at Puff, wondering what he was saying. Probably something about swings, but Adam wasn't sure. So, he looked back at his mother, and was dismayed to find that she was holding hands with Howl. Hands! With Howl!
He scowled, kicking his feet back and forth to remind her that he was there.
"Oh," She laughed lightly, blushing at the compliment. "You're very sweet, Howl..." She glanced past him, to Puff and Adam, and laughed again. "It looks like two little someones want to be pushed." She observed, pulling her hand from Howl's gently and moving over to Adam's swing.
"High, mommy!" Adam beamed now that Jillian was paying attention to him, giggling when his mother gave him the requested push and looking over at Howl. Too bad for him, he thought. He wasn't as small and cute as Adam was. He was tempted to make a face, but decided against it.
"What have you been doing?" Jill asked Howl as she pushed Adam, more than able to multitask.

"Pu pu?" Puff asked, frowning slightly when he wasn't answered. He understood that most people couldn't understand him--but his usually could, if his paid attention (but Howl usually wasn't, because he had his eyes on pretty girls no matter where they went). "Pu pu uff!" He shook a finger at Jillian for not pushing him as well.
Howl immature as ever, stuck his tongue out at Adam when he thought Jillian wasn't looking. "Oh, been looking for a job," he said, shrugging. "Hard times and all, and with being kicked out of the house..." he had the decently to at least look somewhat upset about being kicked out of his father's house. Now that he had his castle up and running, though the fact that he was living in what used to be his backyard didn't bother him so much. "No one's buying my spells," he added with a slight, this time genuine frown. He simply couldn't understand why people weren't purchasing his spells.
"How about you?"

Adam gasped as Howl stuck his tongue out at him. He was making faces! At him! How dare he?! He was a bigger boy. He wasn't supposed to make faces. The beastly little boy thought, for a moment, then twisted his face into a grotesque visage right back, sticking out his tongue and screwing up his nose. There. THAT would show him. He huffed, and kicked his feet. Stupid Howl...
"You were kicked out of the house? Oh, Howl, that's terrible for you." She said sympathetically, forwning. "Do you have another home? My goodness. You can't possibly be out on the streets, can you?"
In comparison to what she thought about Howl, Jillian was perfect. Even without his contrasting story, she was fine. Adam was a handful as always, but he wasn't horrific, and her life was fine.
She looked at Puff and chuckled, reaching over to give him a small push as well. "Oh, I'm sorry Puff. I thought Howl would push you." She laughed, lightly. "Here."

Howl gave Adam a postively frightened look when he saw the beast boy's face, and quickly looked away. It wasn't fair. Adam had a natural way of looking frightening, it was cheating! "Yeah, I was," Howl said, frowning. "Dad's been sick a lot lately, I think it's just because he doesn't want me seeing him in that state," he lowered his voice and muttered, "he thinks he's dying. I've been staying in my castle, mostly. It's in the back yard. I recreated it a while back, and made it invisible so Dad doesn't know I'm keeping an eye on him. Only certain people can see it, it's enchanted that way."
Puff gave a happy chirp, bending back to look at Jillian. "Pupu!" he said gratefully, kicking short stubby legs uselessly in attempt to make the swing go higher. He was appeased then, when Howl gave him a push.
"I can't imagine living on the streets," Howl continued. "I think even if I didn't have my castle, someone would let me stay with them."

Adam was gleefully satisfied when Howl seemed horrified, and went happily back to his swinging. That was good. He'd scared him. Now he'd know better than to mess with him. For sure. He was content with swinging, now, and would only make sure that nothing even vaguely like mother-stealing happened in silence.
Cocking his head, he looked over at Puff and grinned, giggling. "Mommy loo'! Look how high Puff' goin'!" He beamed up at her. Jillian giggled and gave him another push to put him even with the shadow, then looked back at Howl.
"Of course someone would! I, for one, could never leave you out in the cold." She gave him a warm, motherly smile. "If it came to that, I would let you come stay with us."
At that, Adam whipped around with an angry scowl planted on his face, and shot Howl a 'don't you dare' look that could not be mistaken. Jillian, however, seemed to not notice, as she wasn't looking at Adam.

Howl beamed at Jillian, grateful for her kindness, and amazed that she would offer when they didn't know each other that well. "Thank you," he said genuinely. "You're very kind. I'd love to come visit sometime," he added. "Maybe we can exchange numbers. If I did stay, I could fix things around the house and such... I'm good at that kind of thing--with magic. Can't do much without it. Maybe I could babysit Adam, even," he flashed the toddler a smile. "I'm sure he'd like that." He simply couldn't understand why the boy didn't like him--but he wasn't sure he liked Adam much, either.
"Pu pu!" Puff said delightedly, leaning forward in his swing to look at Adam. The shadow waved one nondescript hand, only briefly letting go of the chain. "Pupupuff!"
