Despite popular belief, many of the Dice Room props are not merely cardboard cutouts there for decoration, but are actual working games. Propped against the walls, away from the slow rotation of the dance floor, the gunman slot machines occasionally flash the words 'WIN' above them, the obnoxious sound of coins winning and sirens going off barely echoing through the loud, pulsing music. Game tables, too, litter any space not used for dancing, although for the most part it seems they're being used for those who wish to rest, allowing people to sit down and nibble on the h'orderves that can be found at the buffet table off to one side. There are, however, two game tables that are relatively active -- once in a while, a Dealer will rotate through, stopping at one to shuffle some cards and call to the students to place their bets.

This is where the REAL versions of these games are explained! This is a reference post for those who have never played <3

Poker

List of Hands

For those of you who don't know how to play poker, here are the hands that can win, in order of worst to best.

You could win with two of a kind. (Like 4♥ 4♠).

Two pair beats two of a kind. (Like J♥ J♣ 4♣ 4♠)

Three of a kind beats two pair. (Like 2♦ 2♠ 2♣)

A straight beats three of a kind. A straight is a poker hand such as Q♣ J♠ 10♠ 9♥ 8♥, that contains five cards of sequential rank.

A flush beats a straight. (A flush is a poker hand such as Q♣ 10♣ 7♣ 6♣ 4♣, where all five cards are of the same suit.)

A full house beats a flush. A full house is a hand such as 3♣ 3♠ 3♦ 6♣ 6♥, that contains three matching cards of one rank and two matching cards of another rank.

Four of a kind beats a full house. Four of a kind is a poker hand such as 9♣ 9♠ 9♦ 9♥ J♥

A STRAIGHT flush beats a four of a kind. (A straight flush is a hand that contains five cards in sequence, all of the same suit, such as Q♣ J♣ 10♣ 9♣ 8♣.)

And when two people have the same kind of hand, the higher cards determine the winner.

DO YOU NEED TO MEMORIZE ALL OF THIS? NOT ESPECIALLY. But it's nice to know what cards you should keep / throw away, isn't it? =D

Blackjack

It is important to note that although many players may play in a single round of blackjack, it's fundamentally a two-player game.
In blackjack, players don't play against each other; and they don't co-operate. The only competition is the dealer.

The aim of the game is to accumulate a higher point total than the dealer, but without going over 21.
Initially you are dealt two cards -- you compute your score by adding the values of your individual cards.
If you have a low total (compared to 21) you may ask the dealer to HIT -- they will give you another card,
and that is then added to your total. If you are content, you STAY -- the dealer will then deal their own cards,
and repeat the same process, trying to get a higher number than you, but without BUSTING, or going over 21.

The cards 2 through 10 have their face value, J, Q, and K are worth 10 points each,
and the Ace is worth either 1 or 11 points (player's choice).

Youtube link! (Ignore the betting part -- you will not have to bet, you will only be awarded chips if you win)
Ignore the Insurance, Split and Double Down explanation as well.

Slots

Slot machines are the simplest game ever. Real slot machines, you put in money, you press a button, the wheel spins,
and if you get two of the same or three of the same, you win! EASY!

So easy, I couldn't even get a good link

Roulette

We'll be playing roulette slightly different, but here is the basics of a Roulette Wheel. To play roulette, you place your
bet or bets on numbers (any number including the zero) in the table layout or on the outside,
and when everybody at the table had a chance to place their bets, the croupier starts the spin and launches the ball.
The winners are those bets that are on or around the number that comes up.

Here, have a video!

This game is a SCHEDULED GAME, meaning you can only play it when a dealer is present!

Cam is currently: Missing - Watch your legs!!

How to play:

Okay guys. Using http://www.random.org, I will generate your hand. In RP game terms, that means sexy Cam the Cthulhu will be handing out your cards.

You get five cards. Here is a table with three players for an example. Each have five cards. (Please note, the hands are left to right, not up to down. XD)

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

You also have already had three more cards generated at the start of the game, though you cannot see them. When you post saying which cards you want to 'throw away' from your hand (a max of three) I cross them out, and give you new cards.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

And then we see the winner is player 1 with two of a kind!

That's it. No betting, no bluffing, just two posts, and a whole lotta luck.

This game is a SCHEDULED GAME, meaning you can only play it when a dealer is present!
At the bottom of the post, there is a schedule of when Dealers will be in thread to run this game <3

Prom! Blackjack Rules

(For those who do not know how to play regular blackjack, please see the Games post above!)

For PROM Blackjack, rules are relatively simple. All you have to do is tell me hit or stay, and that's pretty much how you play! There will be a sign up prior to the game, and a list accumulated of the players. In the first post, Dealer will roll x dice, one for each of the players -- the first dice is for player 1, the second is for player 2, the third is for player 3, etc. That number +1 is your total for the two cards you were drawn (if you don't understand, see the rules for Real blackjack). The Dealer's next post will list everyone's current total, for clarity, with a Go post. You will then be able to rp out your character being delt specific cards, based on your total -- for example, Lani's dice is a 5, her total will be 6. She could rp Riley getting two threes or a four and a two, etc, but her starting total is 6.

In that post, you will also post if you want to stay or hit. If you are happy with your total (usually you want 17+ out of 21) you STAY. If you want another card, you HIT. When everyone has posted whether they want to stay or hit, I'll roll x 10sided dice for whoever wants to hit, and the next 'round' will start -- I will post another post after the roll with your new total, and the steps will repeat. <3 As a note, once you stay, you cannot un-stay -- your roll is concrete until the end of that particular game, however, you may still post one rp post per round <3 If your total goes over 21, you BUST, and you have lost the game!

Dealer's hand will be rolled the same way as the player's, only at the end, after everyone is happy with their totals/has busted~

Here is a link to an example game!

Schedule

- June 27th -- 6 PM EST (Floresce Festival Seeds prize optional)

This is an UNSCHEDULED GAME, meaning you can play this game whenever you'd like, without the presence of a Dealer!

Rules

Slots are likely THE SIMPLEST game you will ever play. Rp your character sitting down at a slot machine. Rp your character pulling the lever. Roll 3 6sided dice for that post. Edit your post/ Rp in your next post your character watching the three wheels land on something. You may play this game up to FIVE times a day!

If your character rolls a 666you win TEN poker chips!
If your character rolls any other three of a kind, you win FIVE poker chips!
If your character rolls two of the same number, you win TWO poker chips!

If THAT is tl;dr for you, here's the simplest I can make it:

Roll
???
Profit!

Note: If a game of Blackjack is being run in this thread, please refrain from playing this game until after it is finished -- Thank you!

Rules

Rp out your character picking up one of the tiny balls and rolling it around the outside ring of the roulette wheel, rolling a 100 sided dice in that post. For those of you who do not know how a roulette wheel works, you can watch the video in the Games post for a basic understanding!

If you roll a multiple of five, you win ONE Poker Chip
If you roll a multiple of ten, you win TWO Poker Chips
If you roll a multiple of twenty five, you win THREE Poker Chips
If you roll a one or one hundred, you win FIVE Poker Chips

It's as easy as that! You may play up to four times a day. The day resets at Midnight PST.

*Note -- Chip totals do not compound. Meaning if you roll a 50, you only get three chips, for being a multiple of twenty five.

Note v2: If a game of Blackjack is being run in this thread, please refrain from playing this game until after it is finished -- Thank you!

So what are these chips for, you say? Well it's funny you should ask~

Just outside the auditorium, in the ticket box where students can normally purchase tickets for events, a certain skinwalker has set up what looks to be a booth of some kind, although it's difficult to tell what. The glass on the small, cut-out window has been closed tight, but the black curtain that usually signifies the box is closed hasn't been pulled, allowing people to peer inside. For the most part, all anyone can see is casino chips, lining the sides of the window stacked halfway up, little piles of red and black. Really, where did he GET all these chips, anyway?! But more importantly, what were they for? You'd gotten a few yourself, inside. Taking a second look, you wonder if perhaps this is where you're supposed to turn them in... in fact, it looks kind of like... a casino cage. Is this the bank?

Well, at any rate, it doesn't look like anyone's here at the moment. Maybe you should come back later?

But wait... what's that, way in the back...

are those...

minipets?!

And that seemed to be just the beginning...

How it Works

Now that you've seen some of the prizes, how do you translate your chips to minipets?! Well here's the rundown -- at the end of the Prom (Likely Thursday, although Prom will run until Friday, July 1st,) we're going to hold a MINIPET AUCTION. This auction will likely run 24 hours.

A separate thread will be created in this forum, where all students who won chips will gather around the auditorium stage. All minipets will be displayed on stage for students to see, each able to get a good look at what kind of pets they want to bid on. The bidding will start at 1 chip for each pet, with all the pets being auctioned at once. This means that if you have 10 chips, you are perfectly free to bid 5 chips for the Quest Epony and 5 chips for a Make A Wish***! If you have been outbidded for one pet, and would prefer to not bid again on that same pet, you may use the chips you had put on that pet onto a different one, but MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT BID MORE CHIPS THAN YOU HAVE. If you only have ten chips, DO NOT put ten chips on two pets, expecting to be outbidded in one of them. If we find you are bidding with more chips than you have, ALL your chips will be confiscated. There will also be a 15 minute anti-snipe rule set into place.

Chips are also not transferable to other players. Sorry!

***Each pet that is in its first stage and is identified, such as the Make a Wishes, will be clearly marked as to which type that pet is (for make a wish, it will be labeled things like Bitter Skitters or Fright Night.)

PLEASE NOTE -- While this may lead you to think that you should focus primarily on games, THIS IS NOT THE CASE. In fact, dedicated RPers will have a SIGNIFICANT heads up in getting the minipet they want -- this event is NOT supposed to be about the minipets, but about the rp, therefore that is what we are focusing on! The games are mostly just an alternate means for people to win things, as we're trying to spread prizes out among a LARGE variety of ways to win, to make things as fair as possible. (Art - Court + games in thread; Minips - Rping + games of luck)

Now, Cam. I know you and I have had our disagreements.

Riley held the Cthulhu up, her hands underneath it's armpits as it floundered limply in her clutches. It was dressed in a fancy little tuxedo, that had come with it's very own top hat.

It had already eaten the top hat.

But I truly believe you can do this. You just sit in the chair, and you give everyone cards like I taught you. You are an intelligent being, Cam. Aren't you?

Cam's tentacles wiggled ineffectively.

Riley tucked the minipet under her arm, and it squirmed madly while she looked at Nuk with a sigh. If it gets out of hand, I will take over for it permanently. I know it can do the job. It's simply a matter of behavioral duties. And, of course, if it gets out of hand..

Riley pulled a snakelike whip off from around her waist, where it had been sitting like a belt.

The wiggling under her arm stopped.

I can manage.

A few feet away, Nuk sat on one of the stools in front of a Slot Machine, feet crossed at the ankle and extended in a clearly relaxed, idle position, watching Riley talk to Cam with a look of only mild interest. So far, no one had approached any of the games, although he'd seen a few of the dancers peek over occasionally when they thought he or anyone else wasn't look, eyeing the games with interest. It meant he'd actually have to go back to work -- in the short time Prom had been open, Nuk had pointedly been absent, having ducked into the back room. It wouldn't be long until a few stragglers would wander over to check it out, but for now it seemed no one wanted to be the first to step up and play -- maybe they needed a little help first.

Swiveling on the chair, the skinwalker turned a little further to face the roulette machine, glancing at Riley just as he pulled the lever, spinning the triple set of wheels, the numbers spinning round and round as she spoke to him. "I can't believe you're leavin' me with ... that," he replied, flicking his eyes at the minipet for a second, "It's a minipet."

Riley set Cam down on the stool behind the Poker table, where it sat quite contentedly - until she turned away. Then it bolted like a bat out of hell.

She stood beside Nuk, brushing his hair back idly. I'm not leaving you with it, you know I'll be here for most of the time, as well. I'm just leaving it in charge of that table. Besides, it won't bother you. It has more of an affection for ghouls - though I really don't know why.

She bent her head and gave Nuk a careful glance. A moment of silence, and then she put a finger against the side of his lips, and rose them.

Let me see those teeth. You're a blackjack dealer, remember?

PostPosted: Sun Jun 26, 2011 12:19 am
It wasn't very often anyone played with his hair, and the skinwalker openly purred a little, a low rumble deep in his chest that was more felt than heard, due to the loud, pulsing beat. Sometimes he forgot how deeply he missed the physical contact his own people took for granted -- the culture here was very different than the personal one of home. His molten amber eyes slid closed for a second, enjoying the sensation before she moved away, sliding them back open to watch her bend down, quirking an eyebrow as she looked him over. What she was thinking, he had absolutely no idea, but he was quite sure that that was how most people felt about Riley. She was an enigma. So when her fingertips came to push up the side of his lips, revealing his canines, he wasn't all that surprised, despite the odd gesture.

"Am I supposed to bite the players now?" he replied, allowing her to keep the finger there, "That can be arranged, you know~"

Parting his jaws a little, he extended his tongue to lick along the length of her finger, fully expecting her to snap her hand back with some sort of 'ew' response, grinning deviously all the while.

Yes. Riley nodded firmly, snapping his tongue between two fingers when it stuck out, and holding it captive there as if she was about to pull it out. Everyone loves a good bite.

She let the tongue go with a snap, and patted his head one last time, before standing up straight. As she turned to walk back to the tables to gather interest, her hand wrapped around the slot machine handle beside him, and pulled it.

Have fun, she murmured as the slots flew by.

Junko had been walking by when she spotted it. The Roulette Wheel. It made her stop and stare, clearly distrusting the stupid thing. No, Junko. No. Resist. Don't even think about it. You had had your fill of it last time. Just...

Just...

Oh, just one more time couldn't hurt! Right? Right?!

She slowly stepped up to the roulette wheel and glared down at it, putting her hands on her hips. "We meet again, roulette wheel...Nuk!" Junko looked up to pout at him, pointing at the wheel with one hand. "Is this the same wheel as before? Or is it a different one?" Regardless of his answer she turned a determined stare down at the wheel again. Just one time. She turned it...

Seventy nine.

Seven. Nine.

Junko's hair twitched. Not this crap again.

It hadn't been long, only a few minutes, before Riley caught someone sneaking over to the game tables. Who it happened to be, however, was a surprise.

Riley sat back down in front of a slots machine, idly pulling on the lever as she watched Junko begin the slow descent into gambling failure.

Didn't you get enough of that game during Open House? She had to ask.
