Character Name: Thackery. No nicknames. Type: Pokemon Species: Shiny Umbreon Gender: Male Height: 6'1" Age: 22. Hair Color: Black with blue streaks. Ridiculously long and in a thick braid almost reaching the ground. Eye Color: Black with red scleras. Skin Color: Pale. Other: He has blue fingernails. Nature: Stoic.
Ability: Synchronize Skill Set: Hyper Beam, Toxic, Payback, Dream Eater.
Personality: As silent as the grave, Thackery is the type of person who will not speak unless he has something concrete to say, or if spoken to. He doesn't find any enjoyment in what he calls "extraneous conversation," preferring to keep what he says to a minimum. His voice is low and rough, and while is mildly antisocial, he's not unkind. There is a side to him that is weirdly polite, but also politely distant. He tends to avoid forming meaningful relationships, seeing this as a sign of weakness and a distraction he doesn't need. Everything Thackery does is subtle; he finds no particular need for glory or honor, and what he does is quiet and without all the pomp and circumstance. He has a surprising sense of humor, though it's usually very dry and witty, and he does not show a lot of amusement; perhaps a faint smile, or a flicker of his eyes. Thackery holds himself differently from others, keeping to himself and putting up a barrier to prevent any personal inquiries. If asked, he'll demurely deter you and change the subject.
Strengths: Cautious and rational. Everything Thackery does is very carefully thought out; there is really no reckless nature to him. He is a thinker, someone who likes to have everything planned out to the last detail before going and doing it. Spontaneity confuses him most of the time. Not only that, but he is of a very quietly curious sort; despite his somewhat aloof attitude, he tends to be interested in the strangest things. Thackery also tends to people watch, silently observing everything from a distance. He does not hold grudges; he may not forgive you quickly or easily, but he tends to not bear too much ill will towards others.
Weaknesses: He's closed off. There is an invisible barrier around Thackery that prevents anyone from getting close to him. He's a good person, kindhearted and gentle, but Thackery has little to no concept of what it means to be friends with someone. He is ill-experienced in both that, and in physical strength. He's not weak, persay, but he lacks upper body strength and is pretty much useless when it comes to fighting. Thackery also tends to see the world more negatively than it is healthy; he would call himself a realist, but others might refer to him as a cynic or a pessimist. If he sees no positive outcome, he doesn't want to face it or get involved even if he has to. He also does not really have a very high opinion of himself and will lightly talk himself down.

** This is taken from my entry for the Cyndaquil FS. I built Thackery around that reasoning because I liked the concept. **
He spent the first portion of his life wild, but once he was a bit older a trainer caught him. At first Thackery did not mind; after all, he enjoyed spending time with his trainer, and it was a good life, for the most part. At least, until his trainer lost a match. And then he realized just how much he needed to win; because losing meant pain, meant no food, meant being forced into a cage when he was belligerent or disobedient. It only took Thackery two months to come to the realization that this was not right, that he needed to leave, and after a bit of finagling he managed to break free one night after a particularly brutal match. His trainer branded his name on his leg so that he could always find him, and Thackery is always on the run. He did not want to be human, did not want to be the creature who tormented him - did not want to admit that he wanted to be it, at least.Quote: He had never wanted to be a human. Humans were complicated. Humans were weak. Humans were...not pleasant. He had seen too much of them, seen only too much what they were capable of, what they did to his kind, how they treated the ones they did not care about.
Humans were unhappy creatures.
He had never wanted to be a human, but when the Musharna came into his dreams that night he found himself almost interested. I can give you everything, he had said - at least, he had believed it to be male. Pale, petal-pink hair that brushed against high cheekbones and blew over eyes that had seen many things; eyes hooded with darkness, with sorrow and happiness, with caution and reckless abandonment, everything rolled into one.
"I can give you what you want," the Musharna had said, gusts of elaborate lavender smoke curling about slender hands. "I can give you what you want."
He did not know what he wanted, except he did not want to be a human. Humans were the lowest forms of existence, and he did not want to be a part of that.
"This is your dream. You are the one that called me."
Had he? He could not remember. It was late; he was curled beneath the thick, gnarled branches of an oak tree, pressed against the base of the trunk to make himself as small as possible, not wanting to be disturbed. The only sounds left were the twittering of the Pidgeys in the trees, and even then they had quieted once the moon rose.
"Let me give you what you want."
He did not want to be a human. Not a human. Not now. Not ever.
I don't want that life.
"Are you sure that is what you want?"
He did not want to be a human. His head rose and fell in a single gesture.
Yes.
When he awoke that morning, Thackery's eyes were weaker, unused to the strangeness of human eyes. He had hands. Legs. Feet. Long, thick hair that cascaded down his shoulders and back in black and blue waves. An odd sort of ringing in his ears, like someone had been yelling. It was new. It was different. He felt vulnerable and alone.
How weak I am. Susceptible to the things I shouldn't be, desiring for myself to be the very thing I dislike the most.
He pushed himself to his feet. Brushed the grass from his legs, straightened the foreign object resting on the bridge of his nose and started walking.
This is what I wanted.

HI KURO 8D History: Small things, mostly just questions. Since umbreon evolve via happiness at night, was he evolved pre or post being caught? Did it his evolution play into his trainer's relationship or history with him? In also being a shiny pokemon, did this have any bearing on the trainer/pokemon relationship? (Is that why his name is on his leg?) How long was it until his trainer lost a match? Or, was this a very important match? As for the punishment after loss of the battle, what kind, are we talking emotional or more physical beatings? And I would like to see more detail on why he says he doesn't want to be human but in reality he did and thus, called for Musharna and became a gijinka. I get a general idea but it runs on assumptions which I'd rather not do. |D I assume it's because he wants to speak out against his abuse and face his trainer and those like him on an equal level. But that is just an assumption so I could be very wrong. What else to try and include is Thackery's current living situation post transformation and his status with his past trainer. Was their any resolution or, is he still on the run even though he is a gijinka now? How might that play into his transformation. Overall, the basic history is there, but just a lot of questions to help clarify some points and fill in some gaps. Otherwise, quite fine. Personality: Are there any things he does get passionate about? Like the way humans treat pokemon, on the status of shiny pokemon in human society? What happens or what would happen if someone tried very hard to form a meaningful relationship with Thackery? He comes off as a highly reserved individual but not utterly devoid of emotions or empathy, he is just not trusting. Strengths: In events where he doesn't have time to think, or he must be spontanious, what would he do? Like, he's being attacked or, he runs into someone/thing he used to know as a pokemon? What strange things interest him in particular? Weaknesses: Is perhaps fealful of emotional ties or abuse? Why so closed off? About how long before people can get close to him? What does it take? Wording wise when saying he's physically weak but not weak, do you mean he's just not used to using his new body's muscles in certain ways? The wording is a little weird here because I kind of get a sense what you mean but not 100% sure. Also if he's kindhearted and gentle include those in his personality! 8D Just lots of questions. Overall I get a very good general sense of a character, but just have questions to go into a bit more depth of the what, why, whos, and hows.
