Cady stared at the note, entranced.

It was beautiful. It had scrolling along the sides, and a very fine handwriting scrawled atop it. She wondered at the occasion, or even what to do with it - should she frame it? Was this from a teacher or another student? Maybe it was a love letter. Unfortunately, it seemed the ghoul would never know - the elegant script just looked like so many scribbles to her. She sighed, and started at it pointedly, willing it to tell her its little papery secrets, but to no avail. Captain Bread chose that moment to sulk by, clambering into her lap and staining the sheet with a few of his ever present tears. She frowned, patting his head absently. Its contents would forever be a mystery.

No, no. This was a school. She would Learn Things. Surely someone would take pity on her. She shoved the letter into her pocket, and stuffed Bread into the crook of one arm, footing it to the dorm of the smartest - and only, really - ghoul she knew. A few minutes of jogging brought her to the ghost dorms. She wondered if any of them were awake, as it was still rather early - did ghosts sleep? She trod carelessly through the masoleum and into the carpeted halls, only stopping in her haste to fling herself bodily at a particular door. Cady rapped on the wooden doorframe impatiently. She HAD to be home.
