Howl'd gone looking for a job, it was true. And now that he'd gotten one, he couldn't wait to lose it. He decided to visit Kali to ask her about how to lose a job (he'd tried doing something like this in the past, but it had back fired due to an mistaken assumption on Howl's part. He'd sent Sophie to blacken his name, and, instead of being replaced and told he would no longer be in charge of looking for Prince Justin, had been promoted due to the king's feelings that his flaws proved he was just the right man for the task).
Once he arrived--in Kali's room, no less, (he seemed to have spent quite a bit of time there lately), he glanced around. "Kali," he sulked. "You've got to help me. I went and got a job--well, I didn't really mean to, I was searching for one, you know, to help pay for food and such, and Sophie's engagement ring. I thought she might have liked the traditional way better than my just summoning and making her a ring."

Kali jerked upright as a body appeared in her room; it could only be Howl, and she knew that, but it surprised her none the less. She set the book she'd been reading aside and pushed herself up to stand and walk up to him.
"You've got to stop just appearing in here." She retorted. "I could be naked, for all you know."
She stopped when he mentioned helping him, though, and blinked.
"You need help...with what, exactly?" She hadn't caught that in his explanation. "Buying Sophie's ring?"

"If you were naked," started the wizard smoothly, "I wouldn't bother coming. Do you realize how disturbing the mental image of my seeing you naked is?" he wrinkled his nose. "Besides. I'd know if you were. My powers of divination are excellent. Anyway Kali. There's only one girl I'd like to see naked." He smirked at the older teen before shrugging his shoulders. "And however much you may look like her--you aren't."
Anyway, to business. The teenage wizard sat on the edge of Kali's bed, frowning at his friend. "I got a job in order to purchase Sophie an engagement ring; because you know, people aren't buying my spells yet," he explained. "But the man in charge is crazy! He had me sign some list of rules and suddenly I'm hired. I was having second thoughts before that because you know, he was kind of a creeper--but more than that. I felt something was different. Like... I was tired. But not tired. I don't think I could have done even the simplest spell in there. I don't think I made a very good first impression. He had creepy robots working for him too. Ones that could read my mind. Do you know of any ways to help me get fired? I might try to blacken my name, but I think he's the type to treat me worse if I did so."

"Are you calling me ugly?" Kali challenged, placing her hands on her hips. "Pfft. I'll have you know that there are people who would pay to see me naked." She scoffed, tossing her head haughtily. She dropped the act shortly after, though, grinning at Howl.
"It's a good thing you aren't one of them, or I'd have to beat you up. I'm so glad you remember all of our chats about you and women who aren't Sophie." She leaned in and gave him a hug, sliding over so he had more room to sit.
"You got a job? That's surprising. But sweet!" She smiled. "You're cute."
The next bit of information, however, made her frown.
"Crazy? Rules? Howl...I don't think that's legal. Or safe." She shifted, pushing her blankets away.
"Why don't you just not show up? That'll make him fire you, if you're unreliable. Or you could just suck at your job...?" The whole thing sounded shady. She frowned, again, thinking about it.
"I don't think you should go back. That doesn't sound right..."

Howl shuddered at the thought of paying to see Kali naked. Honestly, he'd much rather pay to not see her naked, if it ever came to that. It wasn't that he didn't find her attractive--she was beautiful--but he simply couldn't see her that way. She was his older sister, and so, the very idea of seeing her--in that way--made him want to gag.
"Well, you won't have to beat me up," Howl beamed at her. "I've been following your advice." He gave another blinding smile. "I thought Sophie would like it if I worked for her ring, rather than just make one with magic, so I've been looking for a job," he flushed slightly. "Hopefully she'll think the same thing. She used to call me lazy, you know. She might think I'm just trying to prove her wrong, and then she'd argue with me."
"I don't know the laws here," the wizard confessed, looking perplexed. "I told him it wasn't right, but he instructed me to go put things away. He had creepy robot bug things that climbed on me when I tried putting them away. Then this pink haired weirdo came to help, but he wasn't very nice." He paused, and shook his head. "I've got to go back, Kali. I've got to earn enough gold to buy her a ring. A really nice one."
