Sparkling Senshi

Kallichore was a very studious senshi. At her best, she would be knee deep in Negas with a pen and a journal, jotting down as much data and she could delve from the depths of the living and the corpses of the dead. She was a scientist, a critic and a strategist (or so she perceived herself to be). Currently, she was sitting crossed-legged on the roof of a jewelry store overlooking the central shopping district. She was powered up, giving off a signature that indicated her current power level, keeping vigil on anyone or anything that may approach. Deep in thought, she was surveying the movement of the citizens below. It was a Saturday, prime shopping time for the residents of Destiny City. Somehow, no matter what was going on, shopping and commerce did not slow down in any appreciable fashion.

Ah, capitalism.

The grey haired senshi shook her head, keeping out of plain sight by sitting in the blind spot of the lights above the jewelry store's prominent and gaudy sign. No one could see her unless they were level with her on the roof. Such was the tactic of hiding in plain sight. So far, nothing of note was happening, though one couple spent an exorbitant amount of money on an engagement ring. Kallichore didn't bother to take that down.

Sailor Pasiphae had neither a certain area that she regularly patrolled nor a set schedule that dictated when she would go out looking for youma. She honestly didn't even want to seek them out, assuming that other, more capable Senshi had a handle on the situation. Yet, the longer that she remained a Senshi, the more she realized what she had suspected from the beginning: that, whether she liked it or not, whether it was fair to the citizens of Destiny City or not, she was one of the only barriers between them and the dangers that plagued the cities. And any protective barrier was better than none.

As she scanned the city from a rooftop in the main shopping district of the city she felt something... strange. She couldn't quite put her finger on it... but it was a feeling similar to when she had been training with a certain male Senshi a few weeks prior. Coming from... where? To the left - the top of the jewelry store? When Sailor Pasiphae squinted and held up her hand against the middday sun she could just make out the figure of someone seated on the roof. Another Senshi? Or maybe... another one like the javelin wielder? She decided to investigate, leaping from the roof she was on onto the roof of the jewelry store. Then, still on her guard, she asked straightforwardly, "Excuse me... but what are you doing on the roof?"

Kallichore didn't look up, sensing the girl from a block or so away. She was in the middle of a very important entry. Main shopping district seems to be a hotspot for possible Nega activity. Large amount of civilian foot traffic. Great potential for $100k+ in property damage. Kidnappings likely. After penning that last bit, the gray haired senshi looked up and tilted her head. "I'm investigating. What are you doing on the roof?"

Her question held no malice, but upon closer inspection, this girl in a lovely shade of beige (or maybe it was ecru, she wasn't sure) was probably new. Kallichore didn't recognize her either. Still, she had a nicer and more useful fuku than Gaymede which gave the girl quite a few more points in Kalli's book, in addition to being quite polite. Straightforward. The super senshi liked that in a person. Standing up, Kallichore brushed herself off and walked towards the center of the roof so she wouldn't be so visible to the people below. "I've never met you before. I'm Kallichore. It's a pleasure."

Tucking her notes beneath her arm, Kalli kept a half-vigil on the civilians milling around below them. If a Negaverse agent were to attack, both of the senshi would have an advantage both in numbers and in vantage point.

The Shame Senshi had not met many other of her own kind--really, if she admitted it to herself, only one--but judging this Kallichore she couldn't help but feel that the other was... less put together. Everything seemed kind of mismatched. Or, at the very kindest, divided. Her attention between her duties and Pasiphae, the civilians below and her notebook, were seemingly random. Her fuku seemed to reflect this as well - two different shoes, two different stockings, tatters instead of clean lines. Even the colors, with the bright blue that caught her immediate attention against the more everyday white and red.

The amount of detail. however, in contrast to Pasiphae's own uniform suggested that the Senshi in front of her was of a higher rank. This coincided with the activity and the need for a notebook to record it. Maybe if she wasn't so focused on investigating whatever it was she was investigating, the other Senshi would make a better impression. At least Pasiphae hoped so--she was truly excited to meet another Senshi and hoped to learn more about them as a whole.

Then, seemingly too quickly, after being asked what she was doing on the roof (a legitimate query) this new Senshi was walking towards her and introducing herself. The dark-haired girl struggled to catch up in the conversation, maintaining an air of politeness, but unable to suppress a little of her excitement, "I'm Sailor Pasiphae, Kallichore. I'm always glad to meet another Senshi. I didn't mean to interrupt... I just saw someone up here and thought I'd check to make sure it wasn't a threat."

Pasiphae... Pasiphae... where have I heard that name before? Tapping her chin with a naked hand, Kallichore was lost in thought for a moment. She shook her head when her mental block became too much to conquer and she turned back to the much more put together senshi in front of her. "Sorry, I need to work on my socializing." she said flatly, furrowing her brow. Somehow, she had the distinct feeling she should know who Pasiphae was, or at least the moon/star/what have you that she was connected to. And where she got those lovely tights.

Kallichore dropped the notebook neatly on the ground. It was bad manners to leave such a steely impression on new senshi. "It's alright - you weren't interrupting. I have a tendency to become... absorbed in what I'm doing." She gestured to the crowd below, who were oblivious to the senshi above them. Sometimes she missed being an ignorant civilian, but those times were becoming increasingly less frequent. "I'm conducting surveillance. I thought I felt some Negaverse agents nearby, but when I got up here, everyone was gone. So I decided to watch the traffic patterns through here. You can never be too careful."

The super senshi sighed. "You'll have to forgive me. I didn't mean to be rude." Placing her hands on her hips, Kallichore rocked back and forth. Usually she wasn't self-conscious about her fuku, but Pasiphae's was so elegant. "It's a good idea to always check. I'm sure you could tell my energy wasn't dark by a scan, so I definitely commend your straightforwardness. That's admirable. What are you the senshi of, if you don't mind me asking?" She was truly curious. The best thing Kallichore could come up with was poise or elegance or even lace, but none of that seemed quite right.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 23, 2011 10:23 pm

Kallichore still seemed somwhat distracted at first, but her apologies seemed to indicate that she was aware of her faults, and this raised the judgemental teenager's opinion of her somewhat. She still had a kind of excitement mixed with nervousness to contend with, but at least she didn't have to fake courtesy. "I certainly can't fault you for being diligent, particularly if you have know a threat was here previously."

The girl visibly flushed at the compliment given to her, but she focused instead on answering her companion's question, "Oh, I don't mind at all! I am the Senshi of Shame." It still felt strange to say that outloud, partially because Pasiphae still didn't full understand what it meant by being the Senshi of "Shame" as opposed to any other power. Yet, for some reason it felt stranger still to be saying it to the other Senshi that stood before her. Something about this meeting seemed... different from her other experience. Granted, this time she was not being pursued by a youma, unhenshined and trying to protect civilians, but she wasn't sure that was the only difference. No, something about Kallichore, even down to the fact that her name gave her a sensation of deja vu tipped her that something was amiss... but she couldn't put her finger on exactly what it was.

Rather than ponder it any further, however, she decided to try and learn more about his new Senshi, "And you? What are you the Senshi of?"

"Diligence is something I find many senshi lack. It's unfortunate that many of them I've seen or met don't like what they've become. Not that everyone will, but you've been tasked with powers and a mission hardly anyone else has. Wouldn't you be proud of that? I know I am, but that's my opinion." Kallichore explained with a shrug. She truly wished other senshi would be happy with their position and be more proactive. Too many were wandering aimlessly for her tastes. She shook her head and regarded Pasiphae curiously.

Shame? The Senshi of Shame. Kallichore wondered how her powers worked and what connection her fuku had to her sphere. The elegance and ladylike visage the girl gave off was nothing to be ashamed of. "Well, it sounds very effective. And you have a very nice fuku to match. I rather like the burgandy... is it burgandy? ...accents." It was odd to complement someone else on their fuku, and if Kallichore didn't know any better, she'd find herself jealous of Pasiphae. Thankfully she wasn't the senshi of jealousy, or the super soldier would be screwed six ways from Sunday. "Or maybe it's raspberry?"

Lifting her arms, tendrils of white fabric played in the wind. "I'm the Senshi of Madness. I'm sure you could tell by my fuku. It wasn't always like this."
PostPosted: Sun Jun 26, 2011 4:55 pm

Pasiphae listened to Kallichore's description of other Senshi with a mixture of shock and guilt, and she was certain that her face fell somewhat in response, despite her best efforts to maintain a pleasant facade. Shock because she had thought, given her meeting with Chanois and the Guardian Cat that had awakened her, that all involved with the Senshi felt a sense of obligation... but guilt because she still doubted her own abilities and efforts. She accepted the burden of her powers, yes, but she was never certain that the powers had been given to the right person. Finally, when she felt comfortable, she chimed in with the one thing she was sure about, "It is... a great responsibility, yes, and I think that it's one that shouldn't be ignored."

Madness? Kallichore's sphere was madness?! Her maroon eyes widened, taking in a few more key details of her companion's dress that she overlooked the first time. Buckles, white, all those tatters... straight jacket? Yet, the person before her didn't seem mad--a little off, a little disjointed, but not mad. Well, that was perhaps not so surprising; Pasiphae herself was not necessarily shameful, even given her sphere. She confessed, "I... I didn't know that the dress could change. Your fuku does seem to match your sphere well, in some ways, and it is very different from others I've seen. It caught me off guard. But, as long as you can perform your duties, that's okay?"

Even as she spoke, however, she found herself staring at the way the fabric moved, and another wave of deja vu overcame her. Why did that look so familiar? Why did she get the sense, as she spoke more and more with Kallichore, that she had done so before? The random flow of conversation began to feel less esoteric (if only slightly), as though it were settling into a pattern that she already knew. It was strange... and she wondered if her companion felt it as well or if it was just her own perception of the situation.

She avoided bringing it up, however, changing the topic quickly, "Do you need any help with your surveillance? I don't mean to keep you away from it for so long..."

Kallichore nodded intently as Pasiphae explained that she too had the same idea behind the responsibility of being a senshi. That was an excellent way to earn brownie points with the senshi of madness - love what you do, or at least accept it to some extent. She could tell the other senshi was only trying to be polite, but she was right; her fuku matched her sphere, perhaps a little too well. Before her upgrade, she could be mistaken for just about any other sphere since her fuku was never too specific. In fact, it blended in with the rest of the masses as a standard uniform, mine her boots. Sometimes she longed for her old fuku if only for the element of surprise. She missed being able to fire off her attack with a look of complete shock on the recipient's face.

Oh well, things change. She shrugged inwardly. Pasiphae's next question needed answering. "Yes indeed, we... ah... upgrade, I suppose it could be called, as time goes by. How it happens or what triggers it is still a mystery to me. It happened to me several weeks ago - a cat I had never seen before came up to me, told me it was time and ran off. Before I knew what happened, my fuku had changed and I became more powerful. That's all I know." She wished she had more information to give to the other senshi, but that was the extent of what she had to offer. More research would be necessary.

The super senshi suddenly wished she had access to a cellphone with internet capabilities, because something was twinging in the back of her mind and it was driving her crazy. Hah. Whatever star or celestial body Pasiphae was attached to, Kallichore felt the distinct notion that she should know what it was just by the sound of it. She wasn't as elegant as Pasiphae, so she could risk sounding ridiculous by asking what was on her mind. "No, I don't mind at all someone to come join me, especially if you're interested. I do have to ask, though..." A pause with some anxiety. "...Pasiphae, what is your homeworld? That is, is it a moon? A star? Where is it in the sky?"
PostPosted: Sun Jun 26, 2011 11:50 pm

The black-haired girl listened carefully to the information Kallichore provided. Upgrades, with more power? That would certainly explain the differences in their uniform, as well as in their level of understanding. Like Chaonis, Kallichore was clearly more experienced, and apparently with that experience came an increase in power.

Pasiphae hadn't really expected the other Senshi to want her to stay and, in truth, she didn't know what help she could provide, other than company. Kallichore seemed to have the surveillance under control. Still, regardless of how little she thought about her own abilities, she was still happy to help. At the anxious question her companion posed, the Shame Senshi frowned. She wasn't sure what Kallichore meant by 'homeworld,' but she had looked up some base information on the moon whose name she shared. Perhaps that is what the other Senshi wanted to know?

It seemed yet another distraction from the watch she had recently agreed to join, but she did not hesitate to share what she knew, frowning in thought as she summarized the most basic information she remembered, "Pasihae is a moon, one of Jupiter's moons to be more precise. I don't really remember much more than that... I only had a chance to look it up briefly before I was interupted. Why?"

She knew it. Something seemed fated about this meeting, and Pasiphae confirmed it. With a decisive nod, Kallichore couldn't help but smile. "I was wondering about that... I'm a moon of Jupiter as well. That makes four I know of - you, myself, Europa and Ganymede. It seems like more and more of us are being awakened each day, and I can't help but think there is a reason for it. I hope I didn't alarm you?" Knowing that Pasiphae was part of the moons of Jupiter made things much easier, actually. The Senshi of Madness didn't feel so alone in her crusade anymore, but she kept thinking about the Blood Moon. They seemed to be falling apart, with no meetings since the one she attended. Was the Court finished?

Kallichore shook her head and sighed, walking back to the position she held before and sat down. She patted the ground next to her for Pasiphae. "Fortunately, nothing too outrageous seems to be happening below us," she started, staring down at the shopping moving in and out of the building from behind the safety of the blinding lights, "I wonder if there is a significance beyond ourselves to this meeting."

Taking out her notepad, she scribbled aimlessly as she spoke. "I should go back into space at some point. I haven't been up there in a while, but last time... last time was very... overwhelming." The last part of her statement trailed off into a whisper. What would be awaiting her if she returned to the moon of her origin? Something more painful? The sheer fact that Europa was right - there was indeed a civilization on her moon! She sat in a remnant of a house! - brought her to tears. No memories came to her when she visited, and Kallichore wasn't sure she wanted any to. The memories would no doubt make her even angrier with the Negaverse. "Have you been to your moon yet, Pasiphae?"
PostPosted: Mon Jun 27, 2011 2:20 pm

A moon of Jupiter. Sailor Pasiphae allowed this information to sink in. Europa, Ganymede... names she did not recognize, at least not in reference to moons, and yet like Kallichore they were... strangely familiar. At the question, the teenager returned the other girl's smile, though it was small, "It doesn't alarm me but... I admit, I'm not sure what it means. I've not met the other two that you've spoken of, though perhaps I will soon..." Because Kallichore's next statement rang true with the girl, even if she did not understand why or how. It did seem as though they had been brought together.

Pasiphae's face went momentarily blank as the other Senshi beganspeaking about space travel. Maybe her companion was a bit mad after all. Visiting a moon as far away as Jupiter, calling it a homeworld... it sounded crazy. But hadn't Pasiphae, not too long ago, decided that a talking cat wasn't crazy? Didn't she hold up the henshin pen and cry out for a power that always used the name of that moon to invoke it? Hadn't she fought youma, monsters that other people couldn't imagine? All of it sounded crazy, but the pratical minded Pasiphae knew that it was all true. She hadn't doubted when ********* first spoke to her; why should she start doubting now?

"No, I haven't been to my moon. I didn't even know it was possible to travel there. I knew it was real place, but... I didn't know it was so important."

Yet, even as she said that, her brow furrowed in thought. No, she hadn't known she could travel to her moon but... something was on the edge of her mind, something that seemed significant. It came to her in a flash--that nightmare! Perhaps... this could be ean explanation for it? Could she have been dreaming... about Pasiphae? She exclaimed excitedly, "Wait... I didn't physically travel anywhere, but I had a nightmare where I was someplace... in space, by Jupiter."

She curbed her own eagerness, however, sobering under the memory of the experience, of the repressed feelings of failure, abandonment, and pain, and also at how Kallichore likewise seemed to have had a difficult time with traveling to her moon. Overwhelming... a neutral enough word, could be good or bad, but somoething about the way the other Senshi held her face confirmed Pasiphae's belief that, like her own nightmare, it must have been a harrowing experience. "I'm sorry... I don't mean to get carried away. It sounds as though your first glimpse of your moon was unpleasant?"

Even Kallichore didn't know the full extent of meeting another moon of Jupiter. It was beyond her at the point, and she feverishly wished for insight into the future. Insight into events that may involve Pasiphae, Kallichore and the rest of the Jovian moons. No doubt more and more of them were awakening - there were sixty-some odd in total. There was a high statistical chance that someone, somewhere, was awakening as yet another moon. Perhaps it all meant something greater than the individual parts. At least, Kallichore hoped so. What would Ares think?

It didn't surprise the super senshi that Pasiphae hadn't heard about space travel. Kallichore herself had just about the same reaction when Europa told her about it, explaining that the cellphones all senshi carried could transport them into space, where oxygen was already plentiful. How that worked was still beyond Kallichore, but worth the research. Still, she almost dreaded going back into space, fearing memories she may not have the strength to suppress. What would happen if she found some horrible memory waiting for her up there? Shaking her head, the super senshi returned to simply explaining how the process worked. With a flick of her wrist, a crimson cellphone appeared in Kallichore's hand. It was colored like her fuku, showing that every senshi's phone was just for them specifically.

"I know it sounds utterly suicidal. Believe me, I felt the same way when Europa explained it to me. But I've tried it and I lived to tell the tale. So you can trust me on this." Flicking open the top cover, she pointed to The Button, the one that actually did the space-sending. "This here... if you press this button and concentrate, you'll be on your moon before you know it. I don't know exactly how it works, but it does. I blinked and there it was, massive Jupiter, as big as the sky." The super senshi looked up to the moon, which was absolutely minuscule in comparison. There was nothing like looking up to Jupiter on a tiny moon such as her own. "But there is oxygen there. How that came to be, I don't know. But it's a humbling experience to say the least."

Unpleasant would be one way of putting it. Kallichore sighed. "It was... like I said, overwhelming. I didn't believe for one second that space travel was possible, and before I knew it, I was on the doorstep of a decimated civilization. I was standing in the midst of the ruins of a house. Someone lived there, Pasiphae, and now they were all dust, no thanks to the bloody Negaverse." Turning to face Pasiphae, the senshi balled one hand into a fist. "Don't ever believe for one moment the lies the Negaverse will no doubt tell you. My first encounter? Zinkenite told me that it was the senshi who imploded and destroyed their own moons, stars, what have you. But who in their right mind would level their homeland?" She would have spat had she the energy. "A bunch of filthy lies."
PostPosted: Tue Jun 28, 2011 12:25 am

At the sight of Kallichore's cellphone the Shame Senshi reached for her own and began to scan the other girl into the database, as she had learned from Chaonis. As the scan proceeded, she listened carefully to what her companion had to say, staring at the button that, apparently, had the potential to send her into space. She took particular note of its location, not wanting to press it by accident and not feeling that she was ready to try this form of travel.

Pasiphae studied the other Senshi's face as she explained her experiences, and what she saw made her own face tighten in sympathy. While she had neither visited Kallichore's moon nor run into this Zinkenite to know what he or she had said, she could see the effect both had on Kallichore, even to this day. Although she was certain whatever sympathy she could offer would be ineffectual, she laid a gentle hand on the other girl's shoulder, "I've only met one person from the Negaverse, and she didn't say anything about other worlds one way or another. She just wanted to fight..."

Her free hand instinctively rested on her side, where her javelin wound had been, and her voice lowered, "I don't trust them, so don't worry about that. I'll remember what you said about their lies. But I think... I think that, if after seeing your moon you're this upset... I can't imagine that you or any Senshi would've been the one to destroy it."

"Someone who just wanted to fight? Sounds like another Nega I know." Closing her eyes, Kallichore touched the spot on her shoulder where a javelin had been several months ago. She didn't even know the Nega's name and she managed to duck away from her as a senshi twice. Even with her power up, Kallichore hadn't managed to find the javelin Nega since. How she longed to launch her attack at a certain corrupted soul. "Let me guess, she had a spear or something? She was one of the few who didn't want to just chat."

She sighed a bit at Pasiphae's touch. It wasn't a sigh of indignity, only peace and gratefulness. "If you do go, and I highly encourage you to do so, just expect the worst. I couldn't travel very far on my moon because of those overwhelming feelings. Just finding out that everything Europa said was true, I mean... it goes against the principles we were taught in school. There's no life anywhere in this system besides on Earth, right? That's simply not the case. And I don't know how senshi civilizations closer to Earth avoided detection from things like satellites and telescopes but... magic explains quite a few things."

The super senshi pulled up her legs and rested her chin on her knees, wrapping her arms around herself in thought. She didn't care how unladylike it was. Pasiphae was much better at it anyway. "It's good not to trust them. I bet that's how corrupted senshi are made."
