~Core Beliefs~

Asatru is a truly polytheistic religion. Unlike Norse Wicca, we believe that each and every god and goddess is a seperate being. To us, saying that Odin and Freyr are aspects of the same god is the same thing as saying that Obama and Clinton are aspects of the same person (no political hate there, just the first names that came to mind).

Most of us follow a philosophy of: "I bow to no one, not even my gods." We do not beg, plead, nor bend a knee to them. They are our kin. Our family. The day we beg from them will be the day that the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. (there are some of us that do worship them in that way though...)

Some of us believe that wyrd (destiny) is not set in stone. Wyrd is what happens after we do something. Cause and effect.

The Rus traders bowed before godposts in Ibn Fadlan's work. There is precedent right there that this was done typically and commonly in the old practices, so I don't see why some Asatruar act like it is taboo. I do not think the philosophy is supported by lore.

We see them as our kin. We would sooner kneel before our fathers. I cannot speak for the rest of us, but I hold this belief because every time I ask them for something from them, I normally get results sooner if I ask them as a brother, a son, and an ally. Again, I'm speaking my personal belief here, because i cannot speak for the rest of us, but I do not believe I can kneel before anyone and respect him/her. To me, it's the same thing as blind obedience. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone. I don't act like it's taboo because I know there are people out there who can kneel and respect. I believe living honorably is worship enough. I've said this twice before and I'll say it again: I can only speak for myself. I cannot and will not speak for any other Asatruar.
