ok so Rory McElroy won the US Golf tournament by a huge margin and everybody is impressed with this guy who is a few years younger than i am!
but they were saying on the radio that he could not become super popular here because he is not American, and supposedly (based on what has happened with tennis popularity or lack thereof) we only like US sports stars.
i began to wonder, is this really true?
it seems to me not, you know, because we used to like many foreign stars, even in tennis. so i am not sure what is going on there.
and if it comes to entertainment we certainly enjoy talent from all over the globe.
don't we?
so how do you feel about this

I'm trying to think of some sort of famous athlete that isn't American and I can't think of anything. I know of Genki Sudo and Sakuraba who are MMA fighters... but that's pretty much it.
But then again I don't watch sports. So maybe a fan of sports would be different.

all the big tennis stars are unamerican,
Nadal, Federer
the Fench Open just had the first Chinese woman champion too
and there' s all kinds of Russian women, including Dementieva, who sounds like something out of Harry Potter
a lot of good golfers are international, like Padraig Harrington, Charle Schwartzl (sp?), Luke Donald
Dirk Nowitski of Germany (but sounds Polish to me, ne?) was most valuable player in the NBA basketball finals this year
of course all the good soccer players are from places other than North America
and so are most of the Formula One drivers
