Ahhhh. Free sample Saturday.
The magical lunchtime of Corey Boone three days a week. Tuesday and Thursday sample days were fine and dandy.. but it seemed all the stops were pulled out on Saturdays afternoons.
Booths filled with little bite sized samples of foods and products lined many of the aisles. A bit of quesadilla here, some cookies there, the newest organic fruit juice right down the aisle from some slabs of salami on toothpicks. Friendly (and some not so friendly considering they were onto his Corey's game that he always tasted and never bought) workers stood handing out samples to anyone that stopped by.
It was exciting.. the variety of different things everytime he came back. Surely it was better for him too then another day of ramen or cheap a** pizza.
As he entered the huge grocery store it was pretty clear what he was after. He didn't even bother grabbing a cart before strolling over to the first booth he saw.
Some new breakfast burrito with eggs and sausage? Delcious! He took the little slice offered to him and quickly popped it into his mouth, savoring the flavor as if he were savoring a fine wine.

Fletcher was already at that same booth with the burrito when another guy around his age walked up. He, however, had a shopping cart with a few things inside. He tried to save his shopping for these special Saturdays so the sample-givers wouldn't hate the mooch as much. He made multiple rounds, though. This was his second stop at the breakfast burrito place, and he'd likely make a third and then put some of the ingredients in his cart, only to ditch them later on a different aisle. Anything to keep the people from turning him away!
Other strategies included bringing hats and wearing reversible shirts into the store just to throw them off. What could he say, he was desperate. Of course, he could probably direct this creative energy into something more productive, but that would involve more steps to get food. This was as easy as one, two, three. Chewing the breakfast burrito, he rolled his eyes and said with his mouth still somewhat full, "It's sooo good! Don't you think so?" He looked at the other patron of the stand and nodded encouragement. His eyes then drifted away to the next stand that offered some kind of drink. It'd be nice to wash this food down and cleanse his palette before the next foodstuffs.

Corey Boone was well... one of a kind. Between his appearance and attitude he was a hard face to forget.. especially since he'd been hitting up the same stores two to three times a week for the past half decade. So he didn't even bother, simply quoting store procedure if they tried to get rid of him. If they really fussed he would buy one box of beef flavored ramen noodles, and insist that with his $2 purchase he was a paying customer and it was bad business sense to disrespect customers. Most often that didn't happen though luckily.
Usually the only conversation he got in the grocery store was a little banter with the workers. So he was a little suprirsed when the guy beside him addressed him, surprised but pleased. Corey LOVED making friends.
"Absolutely delightful!" He agreed as he finished the bit of burrito. "I especially like the choice of cheeses they went with to mesh with the egg." Oh yes.. a real food expert he was. Not. Very easy to please though he definately was.
"I wonder if they have any juice" He asked mildly, his eyes turning in the same direction as Fletcher. He wasn't quite aware yet that he had a brother in arms at his side! Clever use of basket!

Fletcher nodded, his eyes closed to savor the taste. "Perfect mix of sharp and mild flavors." He held his forefinger and thumb together and pantomimed kissing them like an Italian chef. "And that little bit of salsa? Brings it all together." The purveyor smiled at the praise, and Fletcher thought to himself 'lady, calm down, it's not your recipe'.
He thoughtfully tilted his head at Corey's suggestion. "I was wondering the same thing myself." He crossed his arms, then extended a hand. "The name's Fletcher. Shall we?" He smiled nodded his head in the direction of the next stand. And lo, they did have juice. Some grape, some orange, and some apple. Fletcher helped himself to the orange juice with a smile to the worker. He figured he'd keep on with the breakfast theme.

Ahhh! Now that he mentioned it, the salsa really did pop in his mouth. It was like somehow by saying the words outloud the flavors popped more in his mouth, his head bobbing in agreement.
"Corey, nice to meet ya." He returned his name as he gave the other guy a quick squeeze of the hand, not needing to be asked twice to continue on. Following after Fletcher he inspected the choices before him, before lifting one of the small cups of grape juice to his lips.
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly wonderful either. It was the sort of stuff that came in a can from the freezer. Some new version of a certain brand that was supposed to taste more like the natural fresh stuff, and perhaps it did. But Corey wasn't much of a juice drinker. Soda and water mostly.
Already he was ready for the next stand however, and spotting it a few rows away he motioned for his new found friend, offering cheerfully once they were a few steps away from the last stand. "You come shopping here often?"
