AN: Changing this to a PRP because I don't like posting in a thread alone.

A medium sized egg had rocked itself so hard from the rest of it's clutchmates, it didn't even seem as anyone had noticed it's depature. Perhaps it was the way the egg wanted it. However, it managed to rock itself further back than intended and promptly fell to the floor. A rather loud cracking sound resulted from it as the shell exploded, but as everyone's attention was focused on the other hatching eggs, no one had noticed. From the egg's explosion came a brown flit, limping slightly from the fall as he tried to roll himself away from the various large beings that seemed a tad dangerous for him.

User ImageBut he was hungry and the forest of two leggers seemed to be unending. Eyes whirled anxiously until he finally reached the edge. Oh, lookie here, was that food? No one would notice if he took a bite or two. Still wet wings flared out as he made an attempt to rise into the air. And waited. Not working? Oh no, he was covered in so much dirt. And it was sticking! Well, this will not do. He needed food, and soon. Chirping in frustration, he little brown began to make his way to where all that delicious smelling food rested. Only to bump into a rather hard something. Picking himself up, the brown shook his head before eyes looked up to see a two legger! Oh no! He'd been caught! Reddish eyes quickly turned pale yellowish as he glanced from the human to the table of food in worry. Now how was he going to get food without getting caught?

Oh. Hey, those two leggers from earlier gave food to his brothers and sisters. Maybe this one will give him food? Tad bits of affection began to sneak themselves into Malidy's mind as the brown looked up at her once more. Images of the meat began to flood her mind. He was very hungry. She should feed him now.

Malidy was still sort of on cloud nine after witnessing the small green's hatching a seven day before. It had been so amazing. She was so happy for Quindrife, she seemed to glow whenever the red head saw her around with her chosen. But she felt bad for Iaman, where Quindrife was so happy, he was equally depressed about not getting one of the little beauties. But she knew there was bound to be more hatchings, there were far more lizards around than dragons, and they flew more often than their larger relatives. Surely the boy would find himself some needy little being to care for and love, while they waited for the Queen to rise for the candidates.

Because of her mental wonderings of how she would go about trying to impress a flit she was lost again. Of course. She was still getting used to the different tunnels and passage ways, getting lost happened less and less often now though. Soon she'd be able to navigate the weyr as well as anyone else, and she hoped to someday know it as well as she had her Craft Hall. This was her home now after all. As she wondered trying to get back to the barracks when she passed a room, she could hear the murmurings of voices, and there was not cover over the door so she ventured into the room, maybe she could ask directions.

Quindrife’s lanky figure stood out among the other candidates that resided in the heated chamber, the crackling from the hearth was barely audible above the sounds of excited murmurs and whispers from the people that cramped together. Standing with her back against the wall the longhaired brunette grinned rather lazily, her face seemed to hold a lack of color and the darkened rings under her eyes denoted sleep derivation and stress; the wiggling brown lump meekly pressing against her flat chest was barely visible as he continuously uplifted his snout from her tunic to take quick peeks of his surroundings. Obviously not enjoying the myriad of unknown faces the awkward brown dove back into her shirt and whined pathetically towards his.

From the entry way of the open door one could see Quindrife’s mouth open and close, it was however only when she turned her head and stared towards a gentleman seated at a small table was it noticeably whom she was speaking to. Lavish royal shades of blue with ornate silvered buckles comprised the man’s outfit, he seemed important and regal, he held an air of sophistication that was only amplified by his orderly and well kept appearance. Thick curls of long spun gold made up the healthy crown of hair that rested on the man’s head and draped over his broad shoulders. The mirth that glistened in his warm chocolate colored hues seemed to dance towards the tomboy when she spoke, shaking his head some he brought his hand up and cupped his whitish blonde facial hair before drawing his hand away and motioning towards the hearth speaking in a voice that carried above the sounds that drowned out Quindrife’s falsetto gruff tenor.

“Oh my girl, surely you want to try and Impress another flitter. You already have one, why not try to have a pair. That way he isn’t lonely when you are away.” Lush silk was truly the only words that could describe the harper’s voice, the goblet in his off hand twirled a reddish liquid idly before he stood up on long stalks for legs seemingly a few inches taller than the girl against the wall. “Oh---” The man paused some after taking a drink of his wine, his charming boyish charm lighting up his eyes as his gaze trailed from the brunette towards the open entryway. “And whom do we have here, another guest, you are right on time, the this clutch that I brought should be about ready to hatch at any----” a hum from deep underneath Quindrife’s tunic sounded as if perfectly timed with that the harper was announcing. “moment. Go on lass, get closer to the hearth, the little ones should be cracking out of those shells. Don’t for get the meat if you aim to Impress.” Mirthfully stated the unnamed gentleman before getting closer towards Quindrife. Snubbing the side of her nose the tomboy nodded her head towards Malidy while wearing a grin that seemed almost identical to the one that the man had plastered across his handsome face.

“Get over there you dim glow! Them nippers are cracking!” She loudly greeted towards the redhead then pointed plainly at the hearth where several eggs rocked and wiggled with urgency to hatch.

(that okay?)

Malidy only took a few steps inside and she figured out what was going on pretty quickly. She also noticed Quindrife against the wall and made her way toward her. She'd much rather ask for directions from someone who she sort of knew rather than some stranger. Thought talking to people she didn't know was more likely to make her friends. Looking at the handsome man talking to the other girl, she was pretty sure he was a Harper, just by the way he dressed and when she heard his voice, the sound of it. Harpers, in her experience, as limited as it was, had lovely sounding voices.

She smiled a little seeing Quindrife's little brown poke his head out of her tunic, though she didn't want to listen in on their conversation so she looked away from the pair back towards the group around the eggs. She knew another hatching would be soon. It was too bad this one wasn't a publicly announced one though. She thought as she watched from a distance. She gave a slight start when the man addressed her then smiled at Quindrife even as the girl called her a dim glow. she was about to stick her tongue out at the other girl, but with the older gentlemen watching she didn't think it was very mature.

"I'm too new here to impress."
She said softly, but moved closer anyway, she wanted to watch again. She was so into watching the other's hatching she didn't see the one egg rolling away or hear it shatter over the noise. And no one else did either. She gave a little jump when something hit her leg and looked down extremely shocked to see the dirty little brown looking up at her panic in his eyes. She gasped and squats and picks him up before pushing her way to where there were dishes of meat.

He was larger than Quindrifes boy, so she didn't need to chew his meat up any, but she looked around for the other girl eyes wide as she stuck bits of meat out for the little brown to take, which he happily gobbled up.

Steely gray hues sparkled downward towards the girl known as Malidy, strong arms were placed around her thin yet heavily muscled waist as her father held her from behind and watched with interest as his daughter’s friend Impressed to a healthy dirty colored little flitter. Quindrife herself had a huge grin plastered across her slightly tanned face and the man behind her shared the same expression, nuzzling the tomboy’s temple with his fuzzy chin the harper planted a tender kiss on her scarred brow before stepping away from her and nodding his head sagely. Each egg had hatched and each screeching firelizard had Impressed in turn. Truly the harper couldn’t be happier with the end result of the foreign clutch, pacing back over towards where his seat resided the journeyman sat back in the chair and poured himself another glass of wine nonchalantly.

“Congratulations Milady--- Malidy,” offhandedly corrected the tomboy as she approached the redhead with a gregarious smile etched onto her angular face, genuinely the brunette was elated that the girl had Impressed yet at the same time she had wished her father had let her summon the twins Iarodan and Iaman for the private hatching, it wasn’t fair yet it wasn’t her place in who was allowed to participate. Still, Quindrife was happy and with luck the two could figure out how to raise the browns and possibly the flits would grow fond of each other and become friends as well. Absentmindedly stroking an eye ridge of his lovely majesty the powerfully built acrobatic Weyrbrat held out her free hand towards the slightly taller candidate as she crossed the room of now dispersing bonded pairs. Within her grasp rested a bottle of oil that held shades of red and a beautifully crafted glass stopper that crested upon the lip of the canter. “Look at him, he is very handsome, you must really be lucky to show up like you did and Impress without even trying.” Casually stated the brunette while mentally telling her own brown that Malidy’s fellow was handsome but he was beautiful and so much more wonderful than the fresh hatchling, chirping with whirling jeweled eyes Quindrife’s bonded one lovingly rubbed his snout against the girl and nibbled at the calloused fingertip that petted his head. Without a doubt her brown was perfect but Malidy seemed to be content with the dirty thing that had chosen her.

Malidy looked and saw Quindrife with the harper and a different smile pulled at her lips before her boy told her he was still hungry. she hurriedly went back to feeding him then smiled when Quindrife came closer, she couldn't help herself, the other girls smile was attractive and contagious

"Oh by the shell Quindrife Thank you! Thank you so much I- I wouldn't have even gone that close if you hadn't been here." she pulled the other girl into a quick hug before releasing her, "I don't deserve him. He is so. . . Perfect. Oh Iaman is never going to want to be friends now."

she said the last bit softly as she stroked the little flit's head as he finished eating and projected affection for his bonded. He climbed up her arm, claws scratching here and there as he went, then clinging to her tunic he leaned out toward Quindrife and her own brown. Sniffing he chirped at the other brown in greeting, before leaning back into Malidy, who's arms had come up to support him. The little brown boy settled in the crook of one of her well toned arms for a nap. Malidy looked down at him brushing dirt from his fall off his still sticky hide.

"I think Lucky is an understatement, I was lost again." She shook her head again and muttered, "I don't deserve him." then louder as she looked at the beautifully crafted bottle "Gosh it's beautiful."

Her eyes looked from the bottle to her boy, to Quindirfe and her boy, then to the harper.

"I need to thank him."
she said still looking at the man.

Shoving the bottom into Malidy’s hand Quindrife simply rolled her eyes. “You don’t gotta thank him, that’s my Da. He is just a blowhard and would try to flirt with you if you if ya said anything nice to him. I will spare you the trouble and thank him for ya later. Otherwise he might try to---”

“Invite you to dinner! Such a wonderful idea Quinnie. I am so glad that you agree with your ‘blowhard’ father, isn’t that right young lady?” After all you don’t have many female friends your age, as your Papa I have to insist to feed both of you pretty young things and those darling creatures in your hands.” Charmingly interrupted the handsome gentlemen before the longhaired brunette had the chance to spare her friend from her father’s excessively polite shenanigans, rubbing his hands together the harper bowed out both arms for the candidate girls to take hold. Sighing deeply Quindrife found herself flashing a apologetic smile towards the looming redhead and her dirty little flitter, she wasn’t completely embarrassed but the tomboy knew if she just waited a while longer Queniso would fix that issue. Nuzzling his long snout against Quindrife’s jaw the unnamed brown attempted to help His cheer up, large jeweled eyes swirled with concern towards the brunette, bringing her wrapped hand upward the tomboy petting the awkward brown mentally reassuring the little fellow that she was okay.

“Well, what do you say Malidy? Do you wanna get some grub with my Da and me, papa can we go to that one place with the spicy fish cutlets, you owe me since you missed my last birthing day.” Shifting from foot to foot the broad shouldered thin waist tomboy peered towards both the man in blue and the fiery manned girl beside her, a hopeful expression kissing her pale gray hues.

Malidy took the glass bottle as it was forced into her hand, and quickly pocketed it as her brown shifted to a more comfortable position. Her newly freed hand came up to make sure the brown didn't 'roll' out of her arms. Once he'd settled she smiled a little at Quindirfe and said,
"I didn't know your father was a harper."

She started to say more but the man interrupted her, and because he was higher ranking than her she bowed to him a little bit, careful not to unsettle the little life in her arms. Feeling bad, like she'd butted in on family time between the two Malidy was about to say no but thank you, but then her gut growled, loudly. She was pretty hungry.

"I guess I could go. But only if you really want me to Quindrife. I'd hate to butt in on your father daughter time."

she shifted her feet a little, not wanting to insult either of them.

Both Quindrife and Queniso exchanged amused glances before erupting into gales of laughter. Slinking a strong well toned arm around Malidy’s waist the slightly shorter candidate guided the girl out of the room followed in toe by her father whom continued to chuckle over the lass’ reaction to the offer for dinner.

Idly strong fingers played at the redhead’s hip before Quindrife smirked a lopsided grin and removed her hand. “I wouldn’t offer if I didn’t want you to come. Besides me and my Da have time set aside once every seventhday to annoy each other. You aren’t bugging anyone besides if you play your cards right I might even sing accompaniment with old Niso here. You can’t miss that!” Loudly exclaimed the tomboy just as her father paced in front of the two leading them outside and down a pathway which lead to the establishment with the spiced fish cutlets that Quindrife had requested.

(sorry….)

(no worrys lovely)

Malidy blushed hard when the pair started laughing at her. Her moment of distress made the little brown shift in his sleep, comforting her. The girl just blushed more when Quindrife wrapped and arm around her waist. No one had ever done that before and she found she rather liked it. The shorter girl did make a point she supposed.
"that's nice that you make time for each other."
she said softly thinking of her foster mom and how she'd only been able to make time once every few sevendays to visit.
"Oh I'd love to hear you two sing. I bet you have amazing harmony."

The walk to the tavern was uneventful but luckily extremely short, Quindrife had lightened in the air with small chitchat and playful banter while her father lead the way with a confident swagger. The infrastructure stood out with brightly colored signs and a strangely welcoming aura, grinning wolfishly the powerfully built teen tightened her grip on Malidy’s waist giving it a firm squeeze before letting go of the girl’s hip. “Here we are! Trust me, you’ll love it,” gazing straight ahead she held the door open for her fellow candidate. “Hey papa, can we get some redfruit brandy and maybe that stew with the fingeroots in it?” Excitedly inquired the towering brunette as she followed behind Malidy, a tiny snort escaped from the brown flit in the folds of the tomboy’s tunic followed by a soft chirp and a ridiculous amount of wiggling upon entering the building. Apparently his lovely majesty was just as hungry as His seemingly was, the flooding of mental images of meats and various foods caused his stomach to cry out with want, His Quindrife had fed him so well but he wanted something delightful to snack on until lunch--- or perhaps it was now lunch. He wanted fish that was certain, slinking his overly slender neck from the folds of the girl’s shirt the unnamed brown puffed himself up and whined loudly as he bumped his snout against the underside of his bonded one’s jaw.

Snuggling against the top of the flitter’s head Quindrife reassured the boy that he would be fed soon. Clamping a large hand on Malidy’s shoulder the man dressed in flamboyant shades of blues grinned at her and pulled out a chair for his guest. “Of course Quinnie, I will go over and place our order--- Malidy, is it? Is there anything that you would enjoy. Don’t worry about cost, everything is my threat.” Politely offered Queniso in a friendly tenor.

Malidy found herself smiling relaxed as they left the main part of the weyr to the tavern. The equally large teen still had both arms around her new baby boy, afraid that he would roll away from her if she didn't keep him circled to her. She turned her head to look at Quindrife when she squeezed her hip. Could the other girl be hitting on her? No surely not, she wasn't worth this beautiful girl's attentions, she was just being friendly. She however did smile at the other butch girl when she opened the door for her.

"thanks."

she said as she followed the harper inside the building and looked around some what in awe of it. she'd never been anyplace like this before. There hadn't been one apprentices were aloud to visit near the Craft Hall, and she hadn't explored this far out yet. But she really liked it. So caught up in her wonder, Malidy jumped a little, then blushed when she realized it was just Quindrife's father.

"Ah yes sir." she said letting him know he had her name right, but then looked at her feet, "I don't know, I've never been to a place like this before."
