Normally the brunette was pretty good about keeping up with these things.... mainly being when there was some new place in the city to eat at. And the food was good.
She was not a cook... oh she could if she wanted, she just was the kind of person whom would rather take a bag of popcorn and eat it for dinner. Knowing her body she also knew this was not that healthy, so sometimes she would slip out and go to a food eatery of some sort. Nutrition, damn that b*****d. So she was on a quest to get something good to eat tonight... no matter how much a new bag of kettle corn was calling out to her.
Moving in to the diner, a bell chimed behind her. Looking around, she figured this being what...appeared to be a mom and pop place, she moved to sit at one of the taller tables. She liked bar stools, she had no issues climbing into one and grabbing for the Menu. Swinging her feet almost absent minded, the pink eyes woman eyed the paper-with-text she now held... and couldn't help but watch with the corner of her eye.
First rule of a predator- always watch your surroundings. Though she was half distracted. Almost like a bird who sleeps with one eye open....

There was something she learned quickly as her shifts passed - the dinner was still very new, so there were still luls, especially in between rush hours. This was one of those luls, and Ashley had been cleaning the tables in the back when the bell of the door rang the arrival of a customer.
"Coming !" She said cheerfully, dropping by the sink to wash her hands before taking her notepad and making her way to Toki.
...Those eyes... Wow. Yet, she was certain she'd seen these eyes before... Ah, no matter. This wasn't the time to admire, Ashley. "Can I get you something to drink while you're looking at the menu ?" She asked.

"Sweet tea with lemon." Was called back, pink eyes flicking to the other girl, glancing her up and down for a moment. It was human nature to judge a few things when first meeting someone. Even if we try not to, or deny it, you cant help it. Its involuntary. What Toki pulled from her was: Short, Purple hair, cute.
She was unsure about the last part, but it was involuntary. She would say the same of some people she even passed by down the street... so the brunette just shrugged it off. Why deny what he instincts say? Randomly, upon further inspection... she couldn't help but feel as if she knew this girl.
"What is the soup today?" She noticed a little soup of the day thign on the menu, normally she asked anyways what it was even if she didn't order it.

Ashley nodded, jolting that down on her notepad as she pondered the girl's question. The answer came easily. "The soup is chicken noodles today." She said with a nod.
"Can I go get you your drink now, or are you ready to order ?" Her smile never faded, and it wasn't a fake, forced smile either - Ashley, at a base, adored people, and saw no reason not to be nice to them, especially her customers, unless they gave her a reason.
Of course, she had to be nice to the customers even when they were being assholes to her. That part still needed some work.

Ew, chicken noodle. She much preferred chicken and rice or possibly that chicken and taco chips one.
"Wont be necessary." She said with a wave of her hand. With her other she set the menu back down where she had found it, turned a head and looked up at Ashley. "Chicken salad sandwich, tomatoes on top, no pickle on the side please." Why waste food she wouldn't eat? She liked pickles, but on things not by themselves.
Quirking an eyebrow, she watched the waitress. Rude as Toki might be, she was trying her best to be nice... the purple haired girl hadn't ******** up.
Yet.

Chicken salad sandwich, check.
Tomatoes on top, check.
No pickle, check.
"Got it !" She turned and pinned the note to the stand then, then went to pour Toki the drink she'd ordered.
..She really couldn't shake this feeling that she'd seen her before... Really couldn't. It was naggy and annoying, really. It was probably just school, or something like that.

Once the girl left, Toki drew up a breath and exhaled it slowly through her clenched teeth. Why had that damn girl seemed so..familiar? Usually people didnt get under her skin. Usually her memory was better. Oh that was a guy from my school. Oh thats my neighbor. Oh that dude walks a dog i just want to kick like a football.
Things like that.
But no, THIS one was ringing a bell on a entirely different level. One that was not super rememberable. Maybe Toki was going insane. All the same, when the girl returned next, with drink food or both, she would ask "Do i know you?"

The drink came first, and Ashley blinked at the question. It wasn't... just her, then ?
Uh.
"You seem familiar, but... I can't seem to place exactly why... Did you go to meadowview once ?" She looked a little too old for that now, at first glance. A bar, maybe ? No, she didn't go there as much as she used to...
Uh.
The sound of a desk bell took her out of her reverie, and Ashley turned back to retrieve's Toki's order - chicken salad sandwich, tomatoes on top, no pickle. Just as she'd asked.

She grabbed at the drink, thirsty, and drank a few sips as she intently listened to the girl. "No, i didn't go to meadowview." She said a moment after pushing the drink away. "I went to crystal.... rich b***h school if you asked me." To many pretty pretty princesses all too happy to spend money on those shoes.... she did not really care, she also liked pretty things. It was their attitudes that always ate at her.
"Always had something shoved too far where the sun dont shine if you ask me." When they stole star seeds, she took out a few crystal girls just for her own happiness. Call it cruel, she called it justice.
After her sandwich had arrived, she took half of it and shoved the plate with the second half towards the girl "Sit, Eat, its good... and." Pink eyes glanced around the room. "Looks like your slow now anyways. Ill tell your boss i was keeping you hostage if he asks." A smile drew on her lips as she took a second bite of her half.
"You ever visit a horse farm outside of town?" Toki worked there on the weekends, maybe she saw her there.

...She couldn't really eat a client's food, now !! Through the girl was the one who asked it...
Oh, my. Good thing Noah wasn't around. Through... she wasn't sure if her boss would have minded, to be honest.
She picked up the half that was apparently now her's. "I almost went to Crystal... but my grades weren't good enough for a scholarship. I don't think I've missed much. And well... We haven't been open for very long." That explained the slowness, kind of.
And apparently they were figuring this out. Now. "No.. I've never been there." Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice. "Did you ever take cooking lessons ? After school hours ?"

She couldnt help but laugh, something that was slightly chiming as it rang around the room. "Girl do you think ide be here if i knew how to cook? Im more of a popcorn and TV dinner kind of person. Sometimes eating out." She gestured at the place they were sitting at. "But no, its not that i cant cook, just not good at it."
"Mm... " She took another bite of the sandwich, turning back the conversation a little. "You really did not miss much honestly. I was only in the school because my family insisted i be raised as a ....'proper lady'." To make a sarcastic point, she wove her fingers together and placed them under her chin, and blinked her eyelashes in a mocking way. "Feh." She unwove her hands and toop a sip of her drink. " I could ballroom dance, laugh air headedly, or know the different types of forks in a restaurant like the best of them... but its not who i am." For her first year or two in crystal, she was fake. Playing along. Had fake friends, gave fake smiles. In her last two years... she just stopped caring.
She didn't understand why she just said all that, but sometimes it was easier talking to a total stranger... or was she?
"Im guessing you know how to cook then, Maybe i saw you in another restaurant somewhere..?" or a bar. She went to bars too even if underaged. Maybe they saw each other just walking around.

Well, duh, Ashley. Duh.
"Guess that makes sense." She shrugged, reaching down behind the counter to fetch the water bottle she had hidden here at the start of her shift. As long as there weren't too many clients around, no harm done.
"I don't think I could even bother to learn all that. The one thing I truly noticed about Crystal is that whatever excuse for their soccer team is, they're a bunch of pussies." She drank from the now uncapped bottle. "With one of two exceptions."
A split second after that sentence came out, she nearly had an OH s**t moment but... No, she'd remember if she'd played against this girl. Whew.
"Maybe... I've never worked anywhere else, through." Damn, this was maddening ! She couldn't shake the feeling that she'd seen this girl before. "What's your name, anyway ?" Hers... Well, the name tag made that part easy. Maybe that would jolt her memory... ?

A small smile was the first sign of amusement, quickly turned into a few chuckles and a shaking of her head. It was rare Toki found someone whom amused her so much. The humor met her eyes, turning them to molten candy pink. "That sorry excuse for a soccer team was always recruiting members. I think they just barely met the enrollment total. Not surprising, being as most of the girls at crystal for cry and run in fear at the idea of dirt under their nails." Let alone wearing shorts, god forbid!
Leaning back in her chair she folded her arms, clearly examining the other female a little more closely. "A name for a name?" Toki liked trades, so far they had been trading information anyways. It was one reason why she was on Veritas.
"Its a wonder i could forget where i saw someone like you. Almost as if it was magic clouding my mind." She waited then -- wanting to get the others name first.

"Wouldn't surprise me !" Ffff. Seriously. Prissy crystal girls always meant easy wins for her team, so she couldn't hate it... too much.
"Ashley." She answered, in spite of her nametag saying such clearly. It wasn't like her name was a state secret... Through what the brown haired girl said next made her pause.
Magic ? ...No, certainly. Not. How far fetched would that be ? ...And yet...
No, she couldn't take a risk like that. She'll let it go back and forth some more.

"Toki." She replied with a knowing look. "...And no i was not named after that japanese brand Toki Doki, though they do have some cute things and i like the name." She grinned, of course she would like the name.
It was, afterall, HER name.
"Pleasure, though. Even if we can seem to remember where we saw each other last... i guess this is good enough a starting point right?" She took a last sip of her drink, and set it down.
"We should meet up again sometime." One knee was crossed over the other. Toki was mostly curious as to WHY she knew this woman from somewhere, but the fact of the matter was.... the brunette also found her attractive.
