Amphi slid across her table, one set up nicely in the shade of a tree where she could write a letter to her sisters. So far the academy had its bout of interesting characters to meet. She had met a fair share of ghost, monsters and even Reapers. She had yet to meet a demon but that could always be saved for later, not that it bothered her. Oddly enough after her shyness dissipated she was eager to make some kind of friends. Her legs kicked from her seat as she wrote to her sisters a long yet heartful message. A feat not easily done since her sister's had more talents writing then she did.
Dear Sisters, (Amphi just referred to her clan as sisters.)
Amityville has been an interesting place as of now........
Her hand scribbled across the paper as she sighed, spelling errors and possible grammar mistakes mottled the paper as she tried to write what had happened so far in the school. After disappointed attempts, she crumbled her fourth piece of paper and threw it. This was getting her no where and she was just well, getting really frustrated. "Should've asked a reaper for help, don't they no how to write better? for magic? Argh."
She tapped her hand on the table and started to stare off, thinking that she might ask if Sparrow might be able to help her or maybe someone else? Possibly the doll Mei. No she wouldn't bother them. Her head slapped on the desk.

Like the Fairy Godmothers of the Human world, Amphi's wish for a Reaper was miraculously granted. Mac wandered past the ghoul he thought he recognized from somewhere (alas, his memory for aquaintence-faces sucked), but stopped and literally walked backwards a step or two upon hearing her speak out loud.
"Ask a Reaper for help why?" He questioned, still looking over his shoulder at the ghoul. The Psychopomp was filthy, looking like he'd just been digging in the mud, which he likely was; but that also meant his hat, jacket and belt were left at home, leaving him in a dirty white shirt and equally muddy black pants tucked into probably once black but now brown shoes. Black eyes widened in surprise as her head met the desk in a fairly painful sounding manner, and he actually turned to face her.
"Uhh...you okay there?" He thought about trying to pat her shoulder, but one look at his dirty hands stopped him. A lot of ghouls didn't like to get mud on them, oddly enough.

Amphi looked up, after rubbing the red spot where her forehead had met the desk. There in front of her stood one of the messiest boil's she had ever seen. Well, not really the messiest because there had been haunts that secreted all sorts of other disturbing...stuff and to see dirt on someone wasn't that really big of a deal. "I'm okay I think." She kept rubbing it, causing the mark to redden even more, though it started to melt into her flush.
"Oh!" She stared at him more, a little bit a embarrassed flush reddened her pale cheeks. He caught her talking out loud! "Well um, you see...." She ducked her head shyly before flushing redder. "I am suppose to be writing a letter to my sisters you know? There undersea but sometimes they go to land to hear news from other clans and um..." She ran her hand through her hair as she rambled, "Um, I was suppose to tell them how I am doing? But I don't have that good of writing skills, because under sea we never had to do it. And-" She flushed red, "I've only been a student for awhile and I haven't learned to write. I know Reapers are better of the writers right? Are you a Reaper?" Her eye's looked over him almost pleading that he be one, because she really needed help. Really really needed help.

"...Well if you say so." Mac said, though he didn't quite believe her and that was evident by his tone. He saw her face go more and more flushed with embarrassment, and the darker she turned the bigger his grin became. Oh, this was cute! She was cute. Now if only he could remember where he knew her from. She was SO FAMILIAR to him! Augh!
"I see. So I guess they don't have interwebs or voice recorders under the water, eh?" Well, that did make it a little more difficult. With a thoughtful hum, the muddy Reaper stroked his chin, his black eyes moving to a spot far to his left. "So wait, does this mean you don't know how to write?" What she had said just clicked in, and he was surprised to hear it. Charlie was illiterate...could this ghoul be that way, too? "Or just don't know how to write well?" His head tilted.
"Yeah, I'm a Reaper." He said honestly, moving his dirty self to sit on the table beside the red mermaid. "Do you really need help that badly?"

Amphi was starting to look like a boiled lobster with her face turning so red. She looked up only a little bit and saw that he was grinning at her and then ducked her head again. Was...was it bad that she wasn't good at writing? Oh maybe it was too unnatural, even for a mermaid. Darn it, she didn't have good people skills so she wasn't sure what to make of it. She looked up at him again and then focused on his face. "Hey um, do...Do I know you from somewhere?" She thought hard before her face blew up in a surprised expression, her mouth forming an O as she stared at him.
"Weren't...weren't you in sex-ed?" She whispered as she thought of the class. Personally the class had left a deep dark impression on her, and it was still going on. She tried to remember all the students.
"Interwebs?" She cocked her head and thought of the groanspring she had set up after moving in the dorm. "We don't have them underwater? But I learned from the students how to set something up on there?" She ducked her head yet again shyly, her voice meek. "Oh, A voice recorder would be awesome, we have conch shells but they don't hold a lot of sound and a lot of them get disrupted by the waves." She shook her head before staring at the blank piece of paper, still to shy to fully hold his gaze. "I....I know how to write? but sometime I have trouble with words and spelling. Plus My writing is...." She pushed the paper to him as he sat next to her, "It looks like scribbles."
She sighed sadly as she looked at it, she just wanted to send a letter to her sisters to let them know she was alright. "Oh!" She jumped, "Your a reaper! I would, Can...Can I borrow you for today? Just to help?" She shuffled the paper around as she continued her red blush. "I don't know how I'd be able to repay you though, but yes I do need help. My sisters will be worried if I don't send at least one legible letter."

"Oh Probably." Mac replied; yeah, he recognized her from somewhere too, but it was escaping him. "...And yeah, I did...that was..." Shuddering, Mac quickly waved off the subject and stretched out a dirty hand. "Either way, I'm Mac." He introduced himself again, feeling it was only right to do so.
"...Man, I wouldn't be able to live under water." No Interwebs?! Gah! He was barely on them, but he loved having the option. Oh so many people he could meet on those there interwebs. "Seems like Waterfolk got the short end of the stick, sorry to hear that." He chuckled a bit, leaning over the table to look at the paper that was pushed in front of him. Almost instantly his nose wrinkled, and he did not feel bad whatsoever in pressing muddy fingers against the parchment to push it away.
"..." Oh, she had mentioned repaying him! Well, that made this a helluva lot easier! "Alright, I'll help...and we'll just say you owe me one. How's that sound?" He didn't mind being borrowed with no clear terms other than 'one'. It just gave him a mountain of oppotunities for later! "And uh, Maybe I should wash up a bit first, unless you don't mind dirty letters."
There was a pause...and then Mac chuckled.

"Oh nice to meet you again Mac. I'm Amphitrite, though you can just call me Amphi for short." Amphi smiled at him before ducking her head back down. Her hand reached out to take his, shaking it before dropping it back over her lap. There was a moment of awkward silence as Amphi sat there.
"Well its not all that bad I suppose, but I think living on land is hard so who knows?" Amphi smiled at him, "Oh I'm not sorry, I have more fun lazing about then being on the internet though I am sure if I took the time to get used to it, I would probably like it." She laughed and then saw him push the paper back. Aw man, she knew it, her writing had been worst then she thought. It was....horrendous, a sense of dread filled her.
"Oh...." Amphi pulled out of the quick depression and gave him her pearliest white smile, "Oh thanks so much Mac! I really owe you one for this!" She gave him a a small hug and then pulled back, covered in some of the crackling dirt. "Oh..." She looked down and then back him and stifled a giggle, "Well, Alright then? I suppose I should change as well, is there some where I should meet you?" She didn't catch his joke though, what about dirty letters? It totally flew over her head.

"Yeah, you too, Amphi." Mac returned her smile brightly, staring down at her in mild amusement. It was adorable, the way she acted! "I guess it is just a matter of preference, and hey, we laze around a lot up here too!" He chuckled, ignoring the way she seemed to fold in on herself in depression. Poor ghoul, really.
"...You are very welcome." All the surprise of being hugged faded away pretty fast. Hah, pretty girl was hugging him! He was quick to return it before she let go, not really going to let the opportunity escape him. "Ahaa, sorry about that." He apologized with a chuckle, gazing down at her dirty clothing. "Hmmm...why not here, in half hour?" That was more than enough time to get to and from the Reaper dorms after a quick shower, after all!
"Don't worry, I'll make a writer out of you." Mac rose to his feet, patting the ghoul on the head. Nevermind that his own handwriting wasn't the greatest in the world, but...it was still at least a little better than hers! Flashing her another smile, he strolled off to his own dorm for a shower, with every intention of returning within the next half hour.

"Ah that's true. I think Lazing is just a teenager thing?" She laughed before standing up and brushing some of the dirt off. He had hugged her back which made her a little embarrassed but good to know that he wasn't at all the shy type. She could feel that knowing Mac would really help her along with her land walker etiquette as well.
"Okay!" She smiled brightly at him as they both split to go to their dorms, she waved a quick goodbye and made for her dorm as fast as she could. For her it didn't take long for her to wash off, seeing as her room was all mostly a aquarium, the only part of dry land was the small amount of Islands for her pirate minipets at the very top. She jumped in the water, her body did a slow glow as her legs formed into her bright blue tail and she scrubbed all the dirt off. Then she jumped out and dressed as quickly as she could before heading back out. Her hair dripped water as she rushed back to the spot, a whole lot of early time. All in all, she had been gone only for 20 minutes.
"Okay!" She set up her books and paper for her new writing skill class. Well kinda of like a class, Mac would be a great teacher....Right?

Mac hadn't taken too long himself. He made it back to his apartment, showered, changed into clean clothes and headed right back to the place where they had agreed to meet, holding onto his hat to give his still wet hair a chance to dry; there was less a chance at hat head that way. Unlike Amphi he made it back just in time, sliding into the seat beside the mermaid, shamelessly close. You had to be close to see the papers, right?! Right.
"Much better, eh?" He smiled at her, of course referring to the lack of dirt on the both of them. As he had the first time he gave her a look up and down - as far as he could considering they were both sitting - and his smile turned into a grin. "You clean up nice." The Reaper teased, considering she had only gotten dirty because she hugged him. Sadly, there was a reason for their meeting again, and he looked at the books and papers spread out on the table.
"So...is it just legibility, or...everything?"

Amphi had started practicing her writing, doodling on the page before she felt the heat of another person slide closer to her. Looking over she noticed Mac who was extremely close to her. Was it okay to be this close? Do Land walkers always get so close?
"Ah," She flushed red trying not to think of how close he was before looking at his face....which unconditionally was close as well. "Ah, Yes, but I didn't mind the dirt before either." She nodded before averting her eyes quickly.
"Oh um thank you very much!" she blushed all over again before doodling on the paper. A sign of nervousness as she wasn't sure why Mac was complimenting her. "Ah so writing-" She began before looking at him and cocking her head.
"I think its just legibility." She showed him the letter, besides being horrible to read, just by her writing, there were grammar mistakes and words that were either....wrong or just unnecessary. She looked hopefully at him.

Mac noticed the blush. Oh did he notice the blush. Almost instantly, a wide grin formed on his lips; oh, this was going to be fun. So much fun.
"No? Well if you want, it'll be super easy to get dirty again." He chuckled, amused with himself. Naturally he did not move to get up and make good on his offer; no, he stayed put, nice and close to the ghoul. Curiousity had him watching the doodles she was making, sprawling all over the page...and how the doodles seemed to get a little more frantic as she got a little more nervous. Heh. Adorable.
"You're very welcome." Nodding, he looked again at the paper and then picked up a nearby pencil to toy with while he thought about what to do. "Hrm...maybe you're writing too fast? Here." The paper was liberated from Amphi and flipped over to it's clean, unused back. "Write something, at your normal speed?" He wasn't sure how fast she wrote, so...it was a good test to see what she'd do.

Amphi was pretty sure that her head was burning at the moment. She wasn't used to having someone so close, one especially being a boil. Sure she had her sisters, and though they were close emotionally, they we're wary of invading each other's personal space, a problem that Amphi only seemed to share. Mac on the other hand was right at home. So she focused on her doodling, and though it got a little more frantic the closer he seemed to get, she took a breath and held it in. Okay, just relax. This isn't the sea. Amphi mentally encouraged herself. A little of the red blush escaped her face, not so much that you couldn't tell she was blushing, but enough to tell she wasn't going to explode from embarrassment. When he began the lesson, she focused on what he said instead before biting her bottom lip. Her speed? Well that would make a lot of sense considering she didn't really take her time with it. The paper was freed from her hands and flipped over to the blank side as Mac tapped it. Flushing again, she took the pencil. "O..Okay." She nodded and focused purely on the paper and writing. Her hand scribbled words over it, at a medium speed. It wasn't slow enough that every curve of a letter was perfect, but it was fast enough to have the letters melding together. "There." She dotted a period at the end of the sentence and looked up at Mac. If you looked closely it read: Thk you Mc for hlping me, . She put the pencil down and looked at him. Her head cocked, and Blue eyes hopeful. "Does this look bad?"

Oh dear Jack why was she so adorable! Mac fought hard to not pinch the bridge of his nose; she was too precious, this ghoul who was turning red just from his proximity; this ghoul who looked up at him with such big, blue, hopeful eyes.
"It's...better." He said strategically, looking down at the scrawl that was probably addressed to him; if it was, she literally spelt every other word wrong. That...had to be some sort of record, or at least something to mention in the history books. He didn't believe it to be possible but APPARENTLY...Huh.
"A little slower this time, you should be able to see the letters without having to squint or guess." The boil smiled down at her, trying to be encouraging even though he was realizing that he was now faced with such a headache. A very pretty headache, but a headache nonetheless. "And you need to work on your spelling." He instructed, though perhaps this was a point that should have been first. After a moment he reached out his hand, hovering it for a moment over hers; he wanted to guide her hand as she wrote, apparently.
"May I?"

Amphi was still staring at the reaper, with big round orbs hopeful that he would be able to tell her exact problem. It didn't come to her attention that her writing might be more horrendous then she originally thought, and had she known, she might have felt a little more embarrassed but...well she didn't and being that she wasn't a landwalker, it was understandable that in the end, she had no idea about grammar and spelling.
"Better??" She looked down at the paper and felt her chest puff with a little bit of pride. Well if it was better then that meant she was already improving. See there Amphi, she mentally congratulate herself. All you needed was another's opinion, not so bad was it.
"Oh um...okay like this." She looked at him again before her eyes darted down, he was looking at her too and it made her nervous as she slowed her writing. The words we're more carefully spaced though her loops for letters still seemed to meld together. She practiced a couple of the words she had written earlier and was pleased when her writing produce a more legible, MAC instead of MC. "Spelling too? Maybe a letter to my sister's is impossible with my skills." Amphi felt the early pride deflate, barely noticing that Mac's hand had moved over hers before feeling the slight pressure of his. She looked up at him startled. "Mac?" She stiffened as a new wave of a blush rose in her face before her eye's darted to the paper. Okay, all he was doing was helping. She waited for him to show him what he wanted to do.
"If it helps then I see no reason why you shouldn't..." Amphi said really...really quietly. It wasn't like her to be so bold but...one must sacrifice to reap the rewards and well, Mac was fairly nice guy...It didn't have to mean anything. Except its a boil touching my hand...
