After a recent even where Oloneric had gotten himself in trouble swimming in the stream Synestra had been keeping her eyes more closely on her quiet son. She had stayed at home, foregoing any adventures and wandering for the time being. It wasn't like Oloneric to get into trouble, though the pair that had brought him back safely had explained what had happened. It wasn't that Oloneric had done anything wrong, no he had just been swimming when the current picked up and pulled him further down steam to where the water was too deep for him to get out without help. Even so Synestra didn't want to have a similar thing happen again so she decided the best thing to do would be to stay home for a while.

Currently she was in the large meadow grazing with Oloneric playing nearby. The boy didn't seem bothered at all that she was sticking around now and in fact seemed to relish their time together. Lifting her head Synestra watched as Oloneric danced about, likely chasing some bug by the looks of it. Today he would be safe, she would ensure that.

The young colt was happy to have his mother around. It always made him a bid sad when she went away, even if he did have his grandfather and aunt to keep him company. When she had suggested going to the meadow he was more than happy to do so. Out here there was room to run and explore and under the watchful eye of his mother no harm would befall him. Of course any thoughts of that escaped his mind as a large dragonfly made it's appearance among the grasses. Instantly the little colt froze, not wanting to scare the insect off. He always thought dragonflies were interesting looking but generally saw them closer to the stream.

The insect flew this way and that, sometimes going backwards and it made following it a bit difficult. But Oloneric was determined and so he continued to follow it about as it went to the blade of grass over here, then suddenly over to that rock and then buzzing about above his head. If only it would stay still he could get a good look at it!

Having helped out the small colt on their last time past Jarita had found herself oddly curious about the little beast. Thankfully it hadn't taken all that much convincing on her part to talk Eversong into stopping by to see how he was doing. "I think this is the right area isn't it?" She asked as she hovered in the air over a large meadow peering downwards for any sign of the Soquili she sought.

"Is that them?" She finally gestured at a small speck of green and grey in the meadow, the green speck seemed active white the grey looked more stationary..which seemed to fit into the role of mare and foal well enough.

Eversong was somewhat excited..he had liked the little colt Oloneric..and so when Jarita had suggested they stop in to see how they were doing he didn't have to be told twice but had suggested they head in that direction the very next day. Jarita had agreed and so here they were - hovering over a meadow in the hope of spotting thier young friend and his mother.

"I think so" He finally agreed squinting slightly to get a closer look at the slightly moving specks. "Lets go ahead and land and take a look" He suggested and when Jarita nodded in agreement spiraled downwards to cast a shadow over the grass as they went before landing gently a little ways off from the pair of Usdia..whom he could now see were indeed Synestra and her son Oloneric. "Hello!" He greeted them cheerfully

Hearing a voice Synestra's head shot up. It took only a moment for her to see the pair of large purple Soquili not far away. Ah, she knew those two, they were the ones who had come to Oloneric's rescue not long ago. She had hoped they would come by again some time as they had not stayed long after returning her son home. "Olo look." She said, though it was obvious the colt had already seen the pair. Syn watched as her son went to go greet the pair and then hesitated, looking back towards her. "Go on." She encouraged and then began to make her way towards them as well, though at a slower pace then Oloneric was going.

Once she reached them Synestra brought her hooves to a stop. "It is good to see you both again." She dipped her nose in greeting. "I trust your travels have been good."

Oloneric's attention was turned away fromt he dragonfly as a familiar sounding voice called. Stopping his erratic chasing of the insect Olo turned to look for the stallion. Ah there he was and his mate beside him. His short stubby tail flicked in happiness and he went to race over to greet them but then brought his hooves to a stop. He didn't want to make mother upset if he went without her knowing, but she saw the nod of approval from her and so he raced over to the pair, letting out a happy whinny as he went.

Skidding to a stop Oloneric looked up at both of them. "Hi!" And then because it felt like the right thing to do, and because he couldn't very well reach their head, he stepped forward and gave each of them a nuzzle on their legs. He then stepped back so that he could look up towards them, his mother now arrived and said her greetings to the pair. He had hoped they would visit and had asked his mother on several occasions whether they would or not. And now here there were standing before him once more - his heroes.

Jarita lowered her head and returned the little colts nuzzle with one of her own - he was looking a good bit better now then the last time they had seen him, of course the last time they had seen him the poor fellow had been nearly exhausted so that was understandable. Lifting her head up she nodded at the small mare who also greeted them, leaving Eversong to speak with Olo for the time being. "Fairly good" She confirmed in a cheerful voice.

"It rained a bit the other day...but nothing to terrible, we just wanted to stop in and say hello while we were passing back this way. I hope you don't mind our intrusion"

Eversong offered Syn a warm look and then turned his attention to the young green colt, lowering his head he offered the fellow a nuzzle after Jarita before speaking with him. "Hello Olo, it's good to see you again...you've been being well behaved for your mother I hope?" He questioned with a slight glance at the grey mare.

Of course Eversong was pretty sure that Olo had been good - in only the brief time they had spent together it had soon become pretty obvious that Olo was an exceptionally well behaved foal. Eversong was sure that with his temperament he would grow up to be a fine young stallion.

Synestra smiled at her son, he was so polite and loving - and the complete opposite of his brother. It was still a shock to see just how different her two children were. Turning her attention to Jarita as Eversong began to speak with Olo she listened to the mare. Oh yes she remembered there being a bit of rain the other day, certainly wasn't too bad, and helped the grass and flowers bloom and grow. "We don't mind at all. Olo has been asking about you since the two of you left. He was really hoping you would come by and visit again. Will you be able to stay a while?" If they needed to leave quickly then she would understand though it would sadden poor Olo to hear that.

Tail flicked happily as both of the larger horses gave him a nuzzle. He found that Eversong had incredibly soft fur. Giving his head a nod Olo smiled up at the stallion. "Yes, I have been on my best behavior." He was always on his best behavior, but every now and then something distracted him and he would wander when he should stay put. At least he hadn't gotten himself into any more sticky situations since he was rescued a short while ago. "You'll stay a while won't you?" He asked of both Jarita and Eversong when he heard his mothers words. To add to the effect he looked at them with sad pleading eyes.

"I can show you around our home, you didn't get to see it all last time." O course he would only do so with his mothers approval.

"That's sweet" The mare stated in a warm tone.Jarita glanced at Eversong as Syn asked if they would be able to stay for a while, she couldn't think of any reason off hand that they wouldn't - it's not like they really had anywhere they absolutely had to be in the near future. Turning back to Syn she nodded slightly "I expert that we can work in a bit of a stay if it wouldn't be much of an inconvenience for you and your herd" Of course they wouldn't stay for more then a night or so - they'd already been off for the better part of a week and too much longer and her mother and family might start wondering if something had happened to her.

Catching Jarita's glance Eversong gave her a slight nod, there wasn't any reason that he could come up with for them not to stay for a bit of an extended visit either before turning his attention back to the colt. "Thats good to hear" He told the boy with a proud smile as the colt lived up to his expectations, jut as he had known he would. Eversong found himself hoping that when he and Jarita had children their foals would prove to be just as good tempered and reliable as Olo was.

"Yes I think we can stay for a little while" He agreed with a slight nod just a few moments after Jarita agreed "I would love to see your home, I'm sure it's very nice..are there many others in your herd?"

Synestra gave her head a bit of a shake. "Oh it won't be any trouble at all." And then she let out a bit of a chuckle. "As long as you don't mind being surrounded by Usdia for a little while." They would probably have to deal with a bit of staring, none out of rudeness of course, but larger visitors weren't seen very often here. At least Mercy would be able to speak to some other Soquili of her own size for a bit. Her attention turned to Olo for a moment, he looked pretty eager to show Eversong around. "Why don't you two boys go have a look around, while I talk to Jarita. I think he would like a tour of the lands. Just don't wander too far."

Turning her attention back to Jarita the little grey mare flicked her tail in thought. "You must meet my sister while you are here. She's about your size and would certainly love to talk with you. She's likely to bother you about flying lessons." Syn let out a bit of a laugh, though honestly Mercy had been improving lately thanks to her meeting a traveling mare who gave her some pointers on flying.

Hearing that they would stay a while Oloneric let out a happy little whinny. He wanted to spend some time with his hero and now he would get that opportunity. Hearing his mothers words Olo pranced in a circle around Eversong. "I'll show you around!" And with that he started to lead the way, there were so many things that he could show the large stallion that honestly Olo wasn't sure where to start. "Oh the herd is pretty big," he said as they walked. "There's about fifteen of us...oh and then there's aunt Mercy, but she's big and has wings." He looked up at the stallion with a smile. "Just like you!"

Olo led Eversong along the edge of the trees to where a large meadow lay, flowers bloomed amidst the grasses. "This is the main meadow, it's really big." Or at least it seemed so to such a tiny foal. Off in the distance there were a few herd members grazing near the trees, sticking to the shade to avoid the heat of the day. His gaze swiveled a bit and landed on a large stump. "Oh! And that's the stump I used when I tried to learn to fly. It's kind of hard without wings." He admitted, though that hadn't stopped him from dreaming about flying, he would figure out how some day.

"Then I suppose we can stay and visit for a time" Jarita stated with a slight laugh, though ti would be a bit odd to be surrounded by so many small Soquili - it was something she certainly wasn't used too. In fact come to think of it Jarita hadn't even known any Usdia until she and Eversong had run across Olo in that stream.

Her internal thoughts were cut off however when the grey mare mentioned hving a sister that was as big as she was - How was that possible? Furrowing her brow slightly in confusion Jarita thought perhaps she might have misheard what the mare said "your sister?" she questioned far more interested in that then in Eversong and Olo's upcoming tour of the lands and she absently gave the stallion an encouraging nod so that he would know it was fine with her if her went with the colt..

Glancing at Jarita for a moment Eversong smiled slightly as the mare gave him a slight nod before he turned and followed after the young colt 'i won't let him go to far" He assured the mare over his shoulder while he caught up with the boy.

Fifteen was a pretty good sized herd, at least as fr as Eversong could recall - he didn't know that many herds but the ones he did were firly smallish in size...of course he supposed that Usdia probably didn't need quite as much land as his larger brethren and so could group together in larger numbers in a smaller area. "It is a good sized meadow" He agreed with the colt his eyes turning towards the stump "You tried to learn how to fly?" He questioned with a smile.

Synestra gave a slight nod as Oloneric and Eversong made their way off to look around. She doubted Olo would wander too far, he knew better than that, but knowing that Eversong was with him made her more at ease. Surely if any trouble came along the large stallion would be able to protect her son better than any other herd member. So her attention turned back to Jarita and she couldn't help but let out a laugh. "Mercy was adopted. My father found her basket abandoned in the lands and took her in to raise as his own." She turned her attention back to Olo and Eversong for a moment, watching the pair move towards the meadow and then back to the other mare.

"The herd has done their best with her, but there are some things we just can't do for her, and showing her how to fly properly is one of them. She really is a great mare though, always there when you need. Could do with a bit of guidance though." Syn gave her shoulders a shrug. She loved her sister greatly but sometimes she worried what would become of the mare in the future.

Giving his head an enthusiastic nod Oloneric pranced about. "Yup, I tried to learn how to fly. I started off trying like this." And then he started to run hard and fast before leaping into the air. Once back on the ground he turned and moved back towards Eversong. "But I can't get high enough, so Aunt Mercy suggested using the stump. I can jump farther and higher there but still can't fly." There wasn't an ounce of disappointment in his voice as he spoke. Smiling widely Oloneric looked at Eversongs wings for a moment. "Flying is a lot harder than it looks you know." Especially when lacking the proper equipment to do so. "But that's okay, Aunt Mercy has wings and she can't really fly either." Maybe they would learn together how to do it.

Well that said a lot about the mares father as far as Jarita was concerned - there weren't that many soquili who would be willing to take on such a task, oh sure most would at least find help for an abandoned basket..but not all would take it upon themselves to raise said basket. Of course she then had to wonder about what sort of mare would abandon her basket in the first place?

At least it sounded like this Mercy character had managed to get along just fine - despite the difference between her and her family. Jarita was sure that at time it wouldn't have been easy for her though. "She doesn't know how to fly?" Imagine having wings and not knowing such a thing - Jarita's mother had been wingless but at least her father had stuck around to teach her."I suppose that not much a complaint to have though - given that she 's had a family to look out for her at the very least"

Eversong watched as the colt ran and jumped around the meadow - it was amusing and he recalled playing such enthusiastic games when he was a young foal. Foals could always look at the bright side of things it seemed like. "It is" The stallion agreed, shuffling his own wings "It takes quite a while to learn how to do it well"

He thought it was odd how he mentioned that he had an Aunt with wings who couldn't fly but shrugged it off - he had met a few winged soquili who couldn't fly, either because they were partbreeds and only had small and tiny wings or because of some sort of injury. "So what else do you do around here other then learn how to fly and get caught in strong currents?" He asked the colt.

"She can fly only a little." Syn went on to explain. "She's been trying to teach herself by jumping into the ravine the other side of these trees. Certainly it's not the best place to do so, father and I worry quite a bit when she does that. We don't want her to get injured." So far they had been lucky that other than a few scraps and bruises Mercy had been able to walk away from the ravine uninjured each time she tried. Nodding her head she couldn't help but agree with Jarita. Mercy may not be able to fly but she was taken in and cared for and while the herd sometimes wasn't the perfect place for her to live it certainly was better than others, or being abandoned completely.

But enough about Mercy for now. "So you two are headed home after your stay here?" She asked the other mare. There had been a small mention of that earlier. "Is it an overly long journey? Though I suppose even if it was flying makes it go by a bit faster."

Olo gave a firm nod of his head. Yes, it would take quite a while to learn, and perhaps he may never get it down, but it was certainly fun to give it a try. "Well..." What did he do other than trying to fly? Well he certainly hadn't been swept away by the river again, surely that would be a one time thing. "I learn about insects. They are fun to watch and a whole bunch of them can fly." What else? Oloneric paused to think. "I spend a lot of time with grandpa, he teaches me all kinds of stuff. Sometimes I play with my brother, but he likes to do things that we shouldn't do so he gets in trouble a lot." He didn't mention that sometimes his brother would get him in trouble as well by convincing him to tag along. Eversong didn't need to know that, unless he asked, then of course he would tell the stallion. "Mom's going to take me to see dad soon. I like spending time with him."
PostPosted: Thu Aug 11, 2011 9:07 am

Jarita nodded slightly as the mare explained about her adopted sister learning to fly - she could see why they might worry about her but she could also understand the desire to learn to fly. Imagine having wings and then not being able to use them? It just wasn't natural. But the conversation seemed to be moving on to other topics and the mare smiled slightly.

"Yes, I believe so, if we stay away much longer my family and friends will start to worry about us" She shared with the mare "It is not to terribly far, though as you say I imagine it would be allot farther if we had to walk the entire way - there's some challenging terrain between here and there" In fact parts of it Jarita wasn't even sure if one could traverse it by land - if they could it would be quite a challenge of course she supposed one could always go around such areas...but that would make the trip even longer.

"Insects huh?" Well Eversong supposed that there were worse things one could enjoy spending time learning about, though it was a bit of an odd hobby. "Your grandfather sounds like a nice fellow" He added as the colt rambled on - it was nice of the boys grandfather to spend so much time with him, especially considering the fact that his father wasn't always around to do so. He smiled slightly at the mention of a trouble making brother, amusing to think that such a quiet colt could have such an opposite sibling. "Is you brother going to visit your father as well/" He questioned as they walked along.

The little mare let out a bit of a laugh. "Oh I know how that is. I used to spend a lot of time away from home before I had my sons. And if I was even a few hours late from when I said I would return the whole herd would be stressed about it." Synestra knew how challenging some areas of the land could be, not just terrain wise but predators as well. Being able to fly over those more dangerous areas would certainly make traveling easier and a lot less stressful.

Of course it was already getting late and Synestra doubted the pair would travel at night. In fact she recalled them mentioning they would stay over night and then head out first thing in the morning. Glancing out towards the meadow where Olo and Eversong were Synestra smiled. It wasn't often her son was so social, but it was good to see that he so quickly took to having Eversong around, it would be a shame when the pair had to leave. "Well it's getting late, I can show you to a nice place to rest." She would have to call Olo in or else he would try to stay up all night to see fireflies or something. "Olo! Come on it's almost bed time!" Giving her head a bit of a shake Synestra turned and led the way towards a small grove that Jarita and Eversong would be able to sleep in for the night.

Oloneric gave his head another nod. "Oh yes. There are lots of interesting insects, and there are so many you would never see them all." He was determined to try, once he was old enough to travel away from home, to see as many as possible and learn all about them. "Yeah grandpa is great, I really like spending time with him." The question on whether his brother was going to go and see their father as well made him pause. "I think so, Syrrin likes to see dad as well." He would have said more but he heard his mother calling to come in for the night.

"Awwww!" Olo sighed and hung his head a bit. But he was having fun. Of course he wouldn't stay out when he was told to come in so he began to walk towards where his mother and Jarita were. Once he caught up to them he looked between his mother and the winged pair. "Can I sleep with you tonight?" He asked the large pair and then he looked at the three of them with that sad little look in his eyes that said 'please can I? I won't cause any trouble'.

"I suppose worrying is just what family is for" Jarita agreed with a smile - it ws annoying sometimes to be so fussed at when she was grown and fully capable of taking care of herself thank you very much..but then on the other hoof while she was out and about and away from everyone it was nice to know that Soquili at home were thinking about her from time to time as well.

Following the small mare Jarita looked around the little grove nd nodded her head in thanks - it looked like a nice place to spend the night, certainly better then a few of the places they had been forced to stay while traveling. Her thoughts were interrupted by the colts question and though she was a bit surprised and glanced at Eversong to see what he thought about it she none the less answered with a smile "If it's okay with your mother I'm sure that would be fine"

"Don't worry" Eversong encouraged the little colt "I'm sure we'll have time to play a bit tomorrow before we have to leave" Certainly Jarita would cherish a morning of sleeping in, the mare was not exactly a morning soquili. Catching up with Olo's mother and Jarita, Eversong followed along beside Olo as they made their way to the grove where they would be spending the night.

The grove was nicely sheltered and the ground was soft, Jarita seemed pleased and that was enough for Eversong. "Of course!" The stallion answered as the colt spoke up before Jarita's words caught up with him 'Well...as long as it's alright with your mother" He hastily added.
