It was a chaotic fight that day during the first battle of the bands. Sammy recalled guitars swinging wild and wide, Siddie wailing along to encourage Shehk and her not to give up. She also recalled how Shehk had a bad habit of falling over her own drum set to get into the fight. The thing that stood out the most though? Had been poor Tess knocked out on the floor after Sammy gave one last mighty swing of her guitar. The poor ghoul had just crumpled after it took her in the jaw and deep down Sammy had always regretted doing that. So what was she to do? How can you apologize to a stranger like that and not have them hate you?
So day's went by, passing each other in the hall's seeing each others messages on groanspring. (Good lord Tess had even made it sound like she was afraid to go to a concert because of what happened last time!) Well today that would change. Standing before Tess' door Sammy raised her fleshless left hand to give three loud raps against the door.
Maybe she wasn't in, maybe she was out with her friends, yeah then she would just have to try back later right? Right?

Tess still had not gotten the hang of playing on her skintendo dual scream by herself. Playing with Lizzy (or anyone else for that matter) seemed to make things easier. Or at least less likely for Tess to want to hurl the poor device at the wall. Or at Esmerelda. Speaking of the dismembered hand, she hadn't seen hide nor nail of her lately and, well, that did not sit well with Tess.
Hearing the knock on her door, however, was a welcomed distraction from both the wondering and the frustration from her dismal game-playing skills. The winged ghoul hid the squirming gaming console behind her back as she opened the door with a smile.
A smile that promptly froze on her face when she saw it was "S-Sammy!" she squeaked. Suddenly unsure what she should do next. Invite her in? That would be the proper thing to do, but uh is the other undead ghoul carrying anything with her? "W-what brings you here?" her voice's pitch was... higher than usual.

Sammy continued to shift about in front of the door. Hands in her pockets, then out, back in, out. Reach up and adjust her hat, roll her shoulders and shift her jacket. Tess was taking a while it seemed, maybe she should just come back later after all. Yet just as she was about to make that choice the lock clicked open and the door swung in.
"H-hi Tess~!" Her own voice seemed to skip slightly as she tried not to sound to caught off guard at the door opening. Crap now they were both stuck in this awkward situation with no clear way out but to continue on.
"Well I uh, I got your message on groanspring, about the concert, and I was thinking about well, you know when we uh first 'met' and how that wasn't really.... yea..." At once Sammy was glancing away rubbing the back of her head with a shamed look on her face. "I just I guess.... could I come in maybe or we could go for a walk or something?"
Jack-dammit this was more awkward then when she kissed Siddie for the first time.

Tess' crimson eyes blinked dumbly at first as she tried not to fidget so much. The portable console squirming behind her back was doing more than enough of the fidgeting for both of them. However, at the reminder of her first encounter with the zombie there was a twitch to one of her eye, then followed by the purple-haze-filled memories of their time on the boat. Clearly the few times the winged ghoul was face-to-face with the zombie ghoul could have been better.
"O-oh! I-I didn't mean, that is, u-um," Tess was cringing at the turn of the conversation. She didn't mean to single Sammy out with that response on Groanspring. It was just something she wanted to be clear about because if there was going to be actual battling involved, uh, she wanted a battle pass first. And given how Red was holding some sort of grudge against her for that less-than-wise Groanspring post about Red and Blue's potential scareling being named Purple, the manananggal didn't see herself going to Gym anytime soon. At least not willingly.
And now Tess felt terrible that Sammy was feeling terrible. Sure she wasn't completely comfortable around her fellow undead, but the guitar to the jaw? It was a battle. Stuff just... happened. "A-A walk? Um, I guess I can hover beside you? Lemme just save my game first," she requested.

That the purple haze of the boat left Sammy with what could be called a 'purple out' instead of the usual black out. She could barely remember more then thinking she killed Riley with a harpoon gun then waking up in the ocean with a few useless lungs worth of water before finally making it ashore. The first encounter, well, Sammy tried not to linger on the sound of her guitar cracking Tess jaw, or the look of the poor girl crumpled and laying out on the floor.
"N-no it's I mean I understand it was really bad I felt horrible and I just didn't want you to think! That I would um, I wouldn't really! You seem really nice!" At once fingers where fiddling twisting and twirling as she tried vainly to calm her nerves at the moment. She recalled the joke on groanspring and where Tess avoided the gym Sammy lived in it... that was probably a contributing factor she noticed when it came to Tess getting hurt so much.
"I ah, yeah hover, right... no legs..." she paused eyes going wide, that wasn't offensive to her right? Jack-dammit again. "Y-yeah I'll um just wait here?" It wasn't like Tess needed shoes or anything so it shouldn't be a long wait.

Maritess was sure someone, somewhere was observing this moment of sheer awkwardness between her and Sammy. And whoever said someone, somewhere was enjoying every single minute and would probably more than anything love to draw it out even longer. Well, Tess was going to show this imaginary (or were they?) person that she was not going to stand for it! Sorta. Fly it? Hover it? Jack damn it, she needed her legs back.
Leaving the door ajar, Tess fluttered towards her desk and hastily switched the game off. She didn't really bother saving her game. She was down to her last life anyway and was no where near a save point. She was better off replaying the whole level. Probably. Either that or she'd have to ask Jareth for another favor again.
When she had carefully locked the sleeping console in her drawer, she did the same to her dorm room's door. "U-um, did you have any place in mind o-or just let your legs do the walking?" she asked with a weak smile. Tess had become much less sensitive about her missing appendages as of late.

If someone was observing, Sammy would have hit them, she would have hit them very hard, taken the camera they obviously brought along and smash it to pieces making a hiss. Thankfully no one was around it seemed this end of the dorms was quiet for the moment and Sammy couldn't thank Jack enough that it was. It was embarrassing enough talking like a stumbling fool to Tess let alone the idea of someone bearing witness to them.
For a moment Sammy just watched as Tess fluttered away, even leaning forward just a bit letting natural curiosity take over as she peeked into the other Ghoul's room. It was either that or keep lamenting just how horrible this little chat was going.
"I ah, no not really, I guess we can, walk around the grounds a bit?" She shrugged weakly and paused. Was it kosher to make a walk remark around her? She never met a student who so clearly lacked legs to walk with, or rather she felt that till she saw a small smile break over Tess' face. Probably the first genuine smile either of them had this whole time.
Starting off towards the doors to the dorm she glanced at Tess along the way, "Uh so... not to be um bringing it up again, but you. You were okay after... you know." I crushed your jaw with a guitar uppercut.

The vampire's room was always kept in neat order and the bed was almost always left made. Seeing as how Tess never really used it to sleep, as evidence by the chin-up bar bolted to the ceiling and the blanket neatly folded beneath it. Of course none of this mattered with the door shut and locked.
At Sammy's suggestion, Tess nodded in agreement, seeing as she had no reason to protest nor did she have any other alternative to offer. "Sure. The grounds sound fine." The winged ghoul was willing herself not to simply dissolve into a flying pile of awkward introspection as they began to head out. At the very least, she was grateful the zombie ghoul wasn't making a big deal about Tess' missing legs. She was, however, expecting her to bring up how Tess became a very close acquaintance with Sammy's guitar.
The small, weak smile was seemingly plastered on the pale ghoul's face while her hands absently began to fidget with the hem of her blouse. "O-oh yes, I was fine. I eat through my tongue anyway, so the jaw-thing didn't make things too difficult," she insisted. "A-and despite being terrifying, Nurse Cricket really knows how to patch us up."

A chin up bar with a blanket? Well that was unusual, more so then Shehk's doggy bed to be honest, but then again each student had unique needs after all. Being a hodge podge of sorts really. However with the door shut the two started to wander. Nudging the door open Sammy made way for Tess to glide out before following after.
Of course the topic of the guitar came around as usual, trying to smooth out any bumps from that nasty day. "Ah your tongue, well I guess that's kinda convenient after that?" She gave a very weak shrug and a small smile as they continued to walk, before pausing to turn and look at Tess with sad sunken eyes of sorrow, "Cricket. Is the 2nd most horrifying thing in this school beaten only, and only, by Helma...." she shivered.
"She ate Bul for Jack's sake..."

"More like just the way we are," Tess tapped her chin in thought. "The fangs do in a pinch but usually we just drink our food. Um, like a straw," she explained, her tongue protruding as if on its own will to show the hollow end to the zombie. Then it occurred to Tess that she might be mistaken to be making a face and sticking her tongue out at Sammy. And with an Eep! of embarrassment she retracted her appendage back into her mouth.
Vehemently, she nodded in assent at Sammy's observation about the school nurse. "She wasn't that scary during the first aid session or the first time we had Sex Ed." Maritess mumbled nervously. "B-but Professor Malcom's nice, if a little scant in clothing. So's Professor Savage but I haven't been in her class yet. Just paid her a visit during Open House. O-oh! And Professor Cadmus is nice, except um, he smells real bad. I think he smokes a lot," she wrinkled her nose at the memory of Botany Class.
Somehow, having moved past the incident, Tess was a lot more talkative. Had she truly moved on or had she simply found a good diversion and clung to it for dead un-life?

"Are the... are the legs part of the way you are too? I mean I don't want to offend or anything really, I just, your not exactly like some of the other undead I know who are just well... we're dead, we walk around like normal reapers almost. Just, dead." Suddenly the tongue was popped out in Sammy's face swaying about like a snake, at first Sammy leaned back from it before leaning in to blink at the hollowed end before Tess gave a squeak and sucked it back up.
"Eh, she was more indifferent, I think she was secretly about to take bets on if I could kick Braum's a** for being an ugly son of gremling." She could only shrug as they continued to discuss teacher, "I kinda like Red, she's tough, good with FEAR, and I like the gym in general so of course she would be my favorite." As the ghouls walked or rather one did the other floated, conversation seemed to stream by. After a while they found them selves slowly migrating towards the demon dorms.
"I wonder who I'm going to get for exams...all those teachers I could get, I didn't honestly pick one, I just wrote my name down and said screw it."

Tess glanced down, "Uuuuum, yes, like with the drinking our food with our tongue we can sever from the waist up. I think we have a distant cousin-race that severs from the throat up and their heads get wings." She looked like she was concentrating, "But we don't see them much because they smell like vinegar," she made a face at that. "I kinda used to find it annoying that everyone kept pointing out my legs. Or lack thereof. But I guess I've just come to expect it nowadays," she shrugged, though her eyes darted away for a brief moment.
When the subject turned towards the argument between the zombie and the raum, Tess give Sammy a small, mildly mischievous grin, "My bet would have been on you. Hands down." But a twitch suddenly accompanied the grin at the mention of their Battle professor. "I'm in hot water with Professor Red," she began twiddling her fingers in embarrassment and fear. "I-I'm not even close to being ready for Exams." Truth was, Tess was almost there Academically. She was only delaying her signups because, well, it didn't seem right for her to even try to become a Knob without finding her legs first. "B-but good luck with yours!"

"That's an intentional feature? Most people ripped in half usually don't have the option of just removing legs. Or heads." She blinked for a moment wondering what the use of lacking a body and being just a head would be. You could hide in a cabnit to ease drop, but could your body get you out later? When Tess glanced away, Sammy made good to shut her mouth before asking another question regarding the legs, best to let the poor girl have her privacy on that one.
"Well I'm glad that you have a good betting head, I would have loved to clock Braum then and there if Emily hadn't barged in. You know I think Cricket put Braum and me in a group together just to get back at me for that too. Then he tried to convince me to switch partners with Yaya, and Junko. He could have gotten us all expelled over it!" When the topic of preperation for exams came up Sammy only shrugged, "I know a few people who aren't ready, at least they said they would be holding exams randomly through the year. Not like you need to rush in now." She smiled at the luck comment shaking her head.
"I've fought perverted trees, rabid deer, elves, a robot, some crazy reapers, and avoided just as many death traps on school field trips on top of being drugged by Dr. Hyde before half of that even happened. Exams can't be worse then that right?"
She was so wrong about that, oh so very wrong.

Maritess' expression changed to what she believed was the appropriate one as Sammy recounted her experiences. Which was pretty much her eyes widening, her swallowing thickly, her making soft squeaks of sympathy pain, "I stayed behind during the trip to Christmas Town, was it really that terrible?" she winced. Though of all the zombie ghoul ever spoke of, Tess could only relate to the drugging, having been on the same boat. "I-I kinda wish we have another Guidance Councilor other than Dr. Hyde," she murmured. "Some stuff I'd like to talk about but... not with him," she shuddered, her leather wings following suit.
"I hope I don't get left behind though. Some of the other students moving on up even if they get enrolled after I have... B-but you'll do great with your exam! Do you have some sort of plan on how you're going to handle them? Oh! Do you think there'll be um, numbers and history and dates involved?!"
