Istas had managed to rope Sam into beading crafts with her; bracelets, key-chains, necklaces and a lot more things could be made with beads. The kids had a ton of beads to choose from each table was set out with beads of every shape and kind. How did anyone ever afford all of this!? There were beads shaped like all kinds of animals including tiger, lions, bears, bunny rabbits and even insects like butterflies. There were beads with letters you could use to spell names out with, there were flowers and most important of all there were round normal looking beads. One could make a ton of things just with what was there, some looked like they could even glow in the dark. Istas thought about Scheelite when she saw those, however, her mind was already on making an awesome bracelet.
"What are you going to make Sam?" She asked with a smile.((To get an idea for bead stashes check out this))

Though bead crafts were not his usual cup of tea, Sam was not hard to convince to come along. He was feeling pretty tired the last few days and the suggestion of an easy going activity instead of baseball or soccer seemed like a good one. He sat down next to Istas, getting cozy on the bench in front of a large pile of beads. Unlike a lot of girls his age, Sam wasn’t entirely sure of how to make any craft using beads. The boy wasn’t familiar with the kinds of crafts suggested. On a wheeled in blackboard were instructions for making different animal shapes, bracelets and necklaces. Some of the patterns were complicated, or what he thought were complicated.
Assuming that any pattern was basically the same , Sam shrugged “Dunno. Whatever I happen to make I guess? You?”

Istas was looking at the different stuff to do, "I think I might make different bracelets and maybe a keychain? If we have time. I know bracelets for sure!" She nodded with a smile the child's eyes noticed teddy bear plastic charms.
"Look Sam! They have Teddy bear shaped ones." She was looking at others, "And stars and moons and some with suns." This was going to be fun!

Bracelets? Stars and Moons? Bears? Sam looked around at what was available. Getting a bright idea, he scooped up a bunch of the bears, stars and moons and some regular but pretty beads. Picking through them he grabbed some in various shades of yellow and blue. Sam made two separate piles, one with yellow and powdery blues, and one pile with dark blues and white beads.
His gaze shifted to Istas and he smiled slightly, as if he was now up to something. “Bracelets sound like a plan. Must be easy.” Then he grabbed a few long lengths of brown craft twine. Feeling the various materials available, Sam made sure to pick up some string that was smooth and soft. Then he laid his twine down next to each pile of beads. Now all he had to do was get to work.

Istas watched Sam she giggled and started picking out orange and whites along with some reds. She pondered and looked at Sam before picking up some blacks too. It took her a bit longer to get the shapes she wanted though, "What's your favorite animal?" She asked curiously looking at him she'd never found out but now was as good of time as any.
She was looking at the pack of dinosaurs pondering while grabbing the same type of twine Sam did, it seemed like the best option. She also picked up some stars and moons while waiting on Sam's answer. Beading wouldn't take too long it's the selection process that took longer.

Favorite animal? "I guess I like lizards, their pretty cool. Scales and all. Sometimes when they lose a tail it grows back." For a second, Sam wondered if he would see any lizards out here around camp.
Having seperated his beads into two distinct piles, Sam wondered what he should make first. He set his string up, and attempted to start braiding and twisting the twine together, but it was not going very well. Shooting a kind of helpless look to Istas he murmured " Ummmmmm....."

Istas started picking up dinosaurs then, "Closest they have to Lizards." She said holding up one of the dinos. With a smile and picked out the matching colors to the beads she'd gotten. Pausing when he seemed to have trouble.
She pondered for a second before taking some tape and making a knot using three pieces of twine and showing it to Sam, "Start with this." She then placed the knot on the table and took the tape and secured it so it wouldn't move. "See how the tape holds this in place?"
She then started crisscrossing the pieces of twine over each other slowly so Sam could see how it was done. "Does that help any?" She looked at him her head tilted curiously.

Watching Istas intently, Sam studied how she moved the strands back and forth to create a twisting braid-like pattern. "Oh."
Taking over his strands, he set to work. His twists weren't nearly as neat and tidy has his friend's. The beginning of Sam's was a little peculiar. Some places were twisted ever tightly, others were somewhat loose. The end effect was that the bracelet had small patches that seemed to be smaller, or larger, than the rest. It was necessarily ugly, just not as uniform and straight as Sam might have liked. Shrugging it off though, he picked up a blue bear bead and strung it on. Moving along, he continued to add a few different beads until the result was a slightly funny looking bracelet with multicolored bears and star beads.
Sam looked down at the end product, a little frustrated. He shifted his gaze to see what Istas had made. "Mine's not as nice as yours." He smiled a bit meekly, but without saying much else took Istas's wrist and attached the bracelet to it. "At least it fits."

Istas finished not long after having dinosaurs, stars and those little circle beads with moons on them. She giggled at Sam's reaction. "No it's better." She smiled as he attached it to her wrist.
"Just because it's not all the same sizes in the knots doesn't mean it's not pretty." When he finished she tied off the bracelet she was working on and then put it on Sam's wrist. Grinning, "There we go."

Looking down at his wrist, Sam wasn't really sure what to say. Nobody had made him jewelry before, and he didn't really wear any anyways. Still, he was pleasantly surprised that Istas had gone to the trouble of making something for him. "Thanks."
Sam smiled a bit wider, then gave Istas a gentle tap-punch on the shoulder with his adorned hand. "Guess we're buddies now, huh?"

Istas grinned, "You're welcome. You don't have to wear it if you don't want to though."
She knew guys didn't normally like that type of stuff. "I just thought since you made me one I'd make you one too." There was a nod of her head when he asked if they were buddies, and tap-punched her. "Of course," She had winced slightly at first but then realized he wasn't going to hurt her, not probably like some of the guys he'd punch. She sighed, "Hm... I wonder if Ridley would like one..."
She could do this just about all day. Though she wasn't sure if Sam felt the same way.

"No, it's fine. I like it." That wasn't a total lie. Sam wasn't into wearing much jewelry, but he did like the bracelet. His friend had made it for him, so he was going to wear it, at least for today.
Ridley? Right, that girl he had kind of met a few times now. Orange haired, kind of loud. "She probably would... with kitties. I... want to make another one too. For someone."
Sam sat back down and this time was painstakingly trying not make his knots too ugly.

Istas picked out pink and orange kitties, along with pink, orange and white round beads. She then started to work on the bracelet braiding it and occasionally slipping in beads or cats. Humming as she worked, occasionally watching Sam to see how he did with the knots. He was getting better at!
She smiled, "It takes a little practice but you'll get it soon enough!" She said with a nod and a smile. Trying to keep encouraging him as they worked on their new bracelets. Perhaps after this they could go get some snacks... mmm Apple slices and Caramel.
