[It's a well-known fact by now to most members that I prefer rock over almost every other genre in music. But I do sometimes wonder, when I consider buying a "heavier" rock/metal CD, if these bands that I listen to are really racist or anti-christs at heart.
I'm not famous for doing research on all the artists that I listen to, so I often fear that I'm letting the music of a skinhead or neo-nazi or anti-christ flow through my car speakers, thereby broadcasting that I'm some sort of self-hating, hell-bound a*****e. gonk xd
Does anyone else ever fear this?? That you're somehow misrepresenting your own values by listening to certain music by artists that may be well-known for being against what you are for (unbeknownst to you)?
Most of the time, I don't care about an artist's personal issues or likes or dislikes; I tell myself I'm listening to the music because I like the music, not because I'm a personal fan the artist. neutral But I'm still wary sometimes...] [ ]

I don't think there is nothing to worry about Passion. yeah some metal bands are indeed anti christian, or have racist themes, its usually focused on Certine Genres of metal. Like Black Metal, Witch usually talk about evil issues such as occult themes, satanisum, the anti chirst, and what not. bands like Venom, Mercyful fate, Diecide, mayhem, are the extreme ones. but i wouldn't touch it if i where you. I mean, I'm christian, but i still listen to it every once in a while because its just an intence music genre, Its not like you can understand the vocals anyways. lol
as far as racist themes, I havent heard much. Slayer is known for writing lyrics about hitler and attracts partly a skin-head fan base. but thats about the closist ive heard. but even pantera, A band from texas whose fanbase is mostly rednecks dont believe in racal profiling. alot of countrys racist though, ive heard alot of racist country songs. But in the end, most of metal is not racist,
an other option is, just get the booklet of the cds your buy and read the lyrics. sorry i can only help you in the metal genre, but i dont know alot about rock. i know the 60s, everything was considered satanic. Even the rolling stones and blue oyster cult. But alot of 60s rock that came out was mostly a fusion of blueslike led zeppelin and cream. Although zeppelins guitarst, jimmy page was rumered to davil in the occult, there songs arent based on it. and that whole garbage you hear about stair way to heaven is garbage, I have it on record and played it backwards, nothing. and there was also psycodelic(like iron butterfly and jimi hendrix) so theres nothing to worry about there. just a bunch of druggies.

[Thanks, Metal Discharge. 3nodding I think I'll take your advice and just check out the CD booklet, but I'm still a little wary because a lot of times you just can't tell. But then again, if you can't tell, then who really cares, right? xd
I do agree that a lot of country and folk get away with being racist.
And you just brought up a point that bugs me also: the fanbase. I hate the thought of going to a concert and being threatened or whatever. But what can ya do?? xp
I think I can handle the "druggies." xd ] [ ]

I listen to Dutch rap, or as they call it in Holland Neder-Hop. Its awesome. My favorite band in L.V.O Which is Land Van Ooit. I know one of the rappers, He is from Holland more commonly known as The Netherlands. He said LVO translates to Land Of Ever. I found out what they're rapping about when he translated a song. Trust me on this, Reggaeton, Neder-Hop... Its better that you don't understand what they say.

@ SJ: I kind of disagree. I think it would be better if you did know what they were saying, especially if you consider yourself a fan of that type of music, or a certain band.
Maybe it's just me. sweatdrop ]

Maybe it's just me. sweatdrop ] Yes I listen to music when I don't understand what they are saying but I can alyways get the lyrics in english if I really want to know. I'm comfortable with it since a lot of my online firends do know what they are saying and they would tell me if the song had some kind of bad message. If I really like the song I always get the english lyrics but there are some some thatI have no clue what is being said since I don't like it enough to find out.

I understand completely what you're talking about; i've thought of the exact same thing. When I get into a band though I do throughly research on them cuz I'm just a tard that way, but I'm always desperate to find those pictures of my favorite bands/band members with a black fan or something at a concert, if not then I somehow make sure that these people are not racist AT ALL. I always seem to pick the nicer ones though because they all end up liking black people and all that good stuff. Like go figure, Pete Wentz from fall Out Boy is half Jamaican and German. Soooo, that means his mom is jamaican (black anyways) and one of his best friends in the music industry is black too, so there's definately no racism going on there^^.
