Name: Kalgus
Age: 20
Gender: male
Sexual Preference: most likely straight
Rank: weyrling
Former Craft: smithcrafting
Personality: Cold, distant, bored, sarcastic when he bothers. This isn't exactly the type of guy you'd want to run up to and befriend. More than half the time, he just ignores people - and when he doesn't, you'll wish he had. He has a bad habit of pointing people's flaws and weaknesses out to them, and if anyone ever criticizes him he either takes it with a silent shrug or seems to ignore them. Most of this socially unacceptable behavior is just his way of entertaining himself, and seeing what kind of person someone is. He also just has no filter; he has no concept of keeping his opinions and ideas to himself, if he feels like sharing them. K'gus has built an impenetrable wall around himself and his feelings - reinforced with an unfriendly demeanor and cold silences.

However, most of these traits are just used to cover up a deep-down, almost-forgotten warmth. When K'gus was younger, he was the best friend you could ever ask for. He was cheerful, fun-loving, and loyal. After his friends abandoned him is when he became distant and cold to everyone. His friendship with Melly is causing him to slowly soften, but he may never change back into the sweet, caring boy he once was. And now that they're both riders, he may begin to once again withdraw into isolation.

Since K'gus has actually started to care for a handful of people, he has shown to have a slow but fiery temper. Whoever provokes this bull of a young man had better have a good pair of legs to run to safety with, else they'll find themselves stuck in the healer's quarters for a few days. Thankfully, it will likely take a lot for him to get to this point...and he now has his dragon to keep him from doing too much damage. Hopefully...

Despite his size, the former smithcrafter has never been the type to demand respect from others. He never throws around his weight and doesn't look down on others purely for their size. The only acquaintance left from his childhood, a wiry harper, is one of the strongest people he knows and has instilled in him the belief that sometimes people are much bigger than their body would lead you to believe.

This unfriendly, disinterested young man is not without his morals. Though he isn't quick to jump to another's aid, he'll be more than thrilled to teach a bully what will happen to them in a survival-of-the-fittest setting. He usually doesn't make such points in public, but in more of a way that'd leave the bully scarred for life - physically, and hopefully mentally as well. There are just some things that no one should ever, in their right mind, do when the blond is a witness. Somewhere, deep within himself, this rider is a protector. He believes in justice that borders on revenge. Despite his morals, Gus doesn't have any empathy for someone he thinks doesn't deserve it. Once you've crossed the line from selfish jerk to worthless scumbag, there's no going back. The bronze rider is not one for forgiveness. And if someone he respected were to give him the order to take out an enemy, he would tear the world apart to get the job done.

If he had a lover, he'd be the jealous type. The violently jealous type. He'd see red at brief physical contact and bulldoze anyone he saw as a threat to his lover. Fair warning - don't awaken this guy's hormones.....please?

This rider seems to have an uncharacteristic tolerance for his dragon's antics. One would think that Ruseth would grate on his nerves or cause him to roll his eyes. Quite the opposite! The bronze is often successful in bringing a small smirk to the otherwise stoic visage of his rider. However, K'gus guides his dragon with a loving firmness that is more gently insistent than demanding. It's not likely that he will ever get seriously angry with his.

History: He had a really boring background....aside from his three friends ditching him. He still doesn't know why that happened, but they all became riders and essentially refuse to talk to him now. He still holds a vague resentment towards riders and Weyrs in general. Kalgus was born to a smithcrafter and raised by his father, aunt, and uncle. He knows nothing about his mother, but doesn't seem to mind.
Talents: Breaking stuff. I mean, making stuff. With his hands and his beefy arms. Taking and relaying orders. And hopefully, keeping his dragon in line.
Notes: Towering heads, and sometimes shoulders, above his fellow rider, K'gus stands at nearly six and a half feet tall and is built like an ox. Barrel-chested and thick-necked with forearms as thick as most men's legs - even without his somber personality, he's very clearly not the type of guy you want to pick a fight with. K'gus spent much of his childhood outside so he's quite tanned. He has sandy brown hair that's kept very short and gray-blue eyes that seem to look straight through you.

Dragon: Ruseth
Color: Bronze
Final Size: 39 dragonfeet
Impressee Name: Kalgus

Personality: "Hurry Mine, or I will have to drag you. After all, I am a drag on." Ruseth likes to speak through puns. If there's one readily available, he'll use it. Unfortunately, the ones he knows are typically ones used on a regular basis. Add that to terrible dragonic memory... Ruseth's going to forget he's used the same one more than once. Or ten times. Or one hundred--well. You get the point. This brown is a practical joker, always amused, and always ready to amuse others.

Hopefully Ruseth chooses a patient rider, because his tricks and pranks aren't going to sit well with everyone in the Weyr. He will especially love pranking his; for his rider is who he'll be spending the most time with. Poor Ruseth. He will have trouble keeping secrets from his; especially when it comes to plotting his next prank. He might forget that he's supposed to keep it a secret.

When it comes to fighting Thread, Ruseth isn't the best. He's easily distracted, and likes far too much to prank others while they're distracted fighting thread.

Mind Voice: Quite like his rider's, except deeper. When one hears Ruseth's voice, if they listen carefully, they can hear ripples of laughter.

Name and Inspiration: Ruseth, from Rusty-Spotted cat
