I thought since Summer is coming on full force, and it's getting to the point that I will be inside the house again more often, that I might start my own 'custom pet' thread in the main forums... I guess it would be considered breedable (maybe 'feedable'), although there won't be breeding... at least not at first. I figure it would be a limited time thing, but I was wondering if anyone else here has experience with the breedables or the feedables.
My idea would be a bit different than what I find in the forums. I would add a bit of my love for D&D, and my 'pets' would actually not be pets at all, but 'constructs' complete with D&D worthy stats that could easily convert to a tabletop RP.
Then I would also offer the Roleplay thread to go along with bonuses for those who keep up with it.
...but... I need to be sure that I can do it in about 4 to 6 weeks and that it even sounds interesting to anyone. I figured I'ld ask friends first.

So anyway... I've been working it out a little bit, and I have been looking at the threads in the mini-shops, and I think I have a truly unique idea, that could get me items I crave, a little bit of gold, and some artistic challenge...
I would start out with 12 'eggs' (slots) for people to buy... The RP would house the backstory of the eggs, and the eggs themselves would be relatively cheap.
Once the buyer is ready for the egg to hatch, they would send an item (or a few) for the inspiration of their magical construct (there would be a base price for an item to be worth an evolution). The Construct would start out humanoid, but according to the owners wishes and donations, they can become more animalistic/mosterous in appearance. The more badass an item donated, the more badass the evolution.
I would post the 6 basic stats with the first evo and update them with each subsequent evo. I would also list any abilities, and and changes within those abilities. I would also make a log for the players to keep so they can see how the items they donated played into their characters.
There would be a base for the buyers to choose certain characteristics of their construct, but after the opening of the egg, evolutions would be based per my inspiration from the items provided. (I would accept limited feedback from the participants regarding their pet)
I would also limit the time period between item donates... like if a person gives me an item today to evolve their construct, they would have to wait...say... 4 days before they can give me another item to evolve them.
The stat system would be useable in the RP thread, and the owners could duel, team up, or free-play to their heart's content... I might hire a mod (DM) to keep it interesting and in line with the backstory.

hey, that sounds Epic! biggrin
I normally don't get too into the Breedables, myself. but when you give it actual stats and RP like that, it becomes alot more entertaining. Mother had a set of Breedables that were like plants, but which could become like Animals, and there was a Roleplay for them. but they only came in two varieties (Catlike or Doglike).

I guess the proper term would be 'Changeable'.
I have been toying with templates, but I am starting to think that I work faster when I draw from scratch. I think I will do basic cartoon style characters for the evolutions, and for the final change, I'll make a more detailed artwork featuring the fully evolved construct.
I have so many awesome ideas now that I am possibly on the brink of overwhelming myself... I think my biggest challenge will be in prioritizing what I should incorporate, and what I can do without. sweatdrop

So... Here's a sample of what one might expect to get out of an egg to start with. After the egg hatches, the evolutions that the changeable may experience will be dependent on items it is 'fed'... or in other words, what items are paid to upgrade it.

I need to practice at working faster, and yet not sacrificing quality. I don't know if I am ready to do this. I want it to be epic, but I don't think I am experienced enough yet...
I might do a dry run on a voluntary basis, and then take what I learn from that and work on it over the fall. Then, when things slow down for me in the winter, take my changelings to the main forums... confused

Well, I have started working on thread art, and samples for people to see what they are getting, and I have taken a bit more time looking at how other people are doing their threads.
Allot of people make the RP's necessary for their changeables to evolve, and I see the benefits of that, but I don't want to do the art AND run an RP at the same time.
I also have allot to consider about making an initial purchase of an 'incubation chamber'.I am thinking that I will award the first 3 for a good bout of RPing: I am thinking auctioning 3; and I think the others 4 to 6 (depending on how many I decide I want to keep up with at first) I will sell at a flat rate after I have an idea how popular my changeables might be.
