“Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!” Áróra screamed out in joy as she soared through the skies. Now that she was older, daddy said she could go out on her own! She was absolutely thrilled. Not just because of the freedom of going out, but also by the freedom of not being bound to the earth. No cars or bikes for her; if she wanted to go somewhere, she would be flying! The people looked like ants from here; the cars looked like, well, they looked like ant cars, if ants had cars, at least.
Áróra was on a mission of utmost importance; she wanted to get some CD! So it was off to a local music store! She didn’t really have any idea what she wanted to get though; she didn’t really listen to much music at all, but she wanted to! It couldn’t be that hard to fly into a music store, instantly identify what types of music you might be interested in, and then pick out some good examples of said type or types. It should be a cakewalk, right?
As she flew toward the store, she felt her stomach rumble. Flying made her so hungry; it took up so much energy! Luckily she had with her a bag full of a variety of quick, easy to eat food. Powers bars, granola bars, fruit bars, pretty much anything that was sold individually wrapped, and in bar form, was stored within the bag that dangled, strapped to her left hand. She reached into the bag and dug around for one. She quickly removed the wrapping and stuck the bar into the waiting grasp of one of her face tentacles. She was a bit distracted during this process, unfortunately, and flew past the music store.
Realizing what she had done, she quickly turned around and zoomed downward, in a slightly frantic, not completely controlled way. She couldn’t believe that she had flow past it; she should have been paying better attention. It was only her first time out by herself, and she had almost screwed it up. Distracted by her thoughts on the matter, she had a less then elegant landing in a small park, across the street from the store. No real injuries; if she was normal, she might have a bruise or two, but those would heal before they really had a chance to form, thanks to her regeneration. She quickly popped up from the ground and dusted herself off. A wide smile was on her face and she looked towards the music store. “Time to find some music!” she proudly proclaimed to anyone within hearing distance before devouring the granola bar whole.

"I can't believe Laixi gave a six year old fifty bucks." Basil sighed, walking down the street with Chusi in his hand.
"Li Li trusts me!" Chusi grinned, hopping with each step. Wow. Fifty dollars. Chusi was just now understanding how people got things; Laixi explained as much as he could to her. People need stuff so they get jobs. They get money for working so hard and spend their money on food and stuff. If they have extra, they get stuff that they WANT. If they don't, then they just had to get stuff that they NEED. AND if you had extra money, you can use it to buy gifts or give the money itself as a gift, like Laixi did.
But Basil paid for all the stuff that they need and want with his job money. This was just up and given to Chusi. So what was she going to do with it?
"What does Chusi need...what do I need..."
"You don't have to buy something you need, Chewy. It can be something you want."
Chusi smiled. "Really, Daddy? But what do we need at home?"
"I'll get that stuff; don't you worry."
"YAY!" Chusi cheered. "...but I'm gonna feel bad if I buy somethin for me...I want to make someone else happy.
Basil bent down to Chusi's level, still holding on tightly to her hand. "Chewy...that is incredibly thoughtfull of you. But you make everyone around you happy just by being with us. You make us happy when YOU'RE happy."
"...sure?"
"Sure I'm sure."
"...'kay. If you say so, Daddy." Chusi gave him a hug and they continued on down the street.
"So what do you think you'd like to get?"
"Hm..." Chusi stopped and crossed her arms. "Flowers, for one. But I can buy more, right?"
Basil laughed. "Depends on how many flowers you get."
"...is there a way you can listen to music when no one's playin it?" Chusi asked, bouncing up and down.
"Yeah! I have a stero in the closet I haven't used in forever. See, you can buy CD's; they're these little things you can stick in a stereo and play music on."
"WHOA! How, Daddy?!"
"Well, uh...you know what; I'll have the guy who runs the store see if he can explain it. There's a music store right around the corner, actually."

After her proclamation, Áróra stretched her arms up into the air. Flying sure was tiring. In fact, it seemed another individually wrapped, bar shaped piece of food was in order. As she dug into her bag again, she made the mental note to not dig for snacks as she flew. It ended with no harm done this time, but who’s to say what might happen if she were to do it again. This time she chose a breakfast type bar with cherry filling. Upon removing the bar, she first took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment. A smile on her face, she carefully removed the wrapper and buried it into a side pocket of her bag. She was not one to litter. Next she took a bite; it was delicious! As she chewed, she wrapped a tentacle around the rest; she would get to it later.
Satisfied with her added bite of food, she approached the street. Seeing the way was clear, after looking both ways, she scurried across. Upon entering the store, she just stood there. She had no idea where to head next. All she knew was that she wanted music, not what sort.

"Here we are, Chewy!" Basil announced, opening the door to the music store.
Chusi looked around. She couldn't see many colors here, just like the city. Not very many people were in the store. But the sound she heard made up for it...a wonderful sound with no color, but still...had a color of it's own, she thought. A color she couldn't see, but rather a color she could feel. Her aura's can only detect living things...this surely meant that this sound was alive.
What was that sound? She knew it was music, but it wasn't an instrument she knew yet. It was soft like Basil's piano, but more like...a plucking vibration; not a pounding vibration made by the keys of the piano.
"Daddy, what instament is that?" Chusi asked, excited.
"An acoustic guitar." Basil answered. "It's like Laixi's violin, only bigger and instead of bowing it, you take your fingers or a tiny piece of plastic or wood and pluck it."
"I like it! S'not loud and it's all soft and pretty, Daddy!"
"I do, too. Want to look for music like that?"
"Yeah!!!"
Chusi was prepared to follow Basil, but she noticed and aura and stopped. All the other aura's of people were searching for something, but this one just stood next to the doorway. Her colors were very energetic, even though she was standing still.
"Whatchya doin'" Chusi asked the energetic aura.

Lost in thought, Áróra almost didn’t notice the girl’s question. After a moment she turned to her and started, “Oh! Hello. Sorry about that, I was lost in thought. And well, to answer your question, I am here to get music, but I have no idea what to get.” She giggled slightly before continuing, “It probably sounds a little silly, but… I haven’t really listened to much music before, so I have no idea what to get or even what I would like! But look at me rambling to a complete stranger. Well one way to fix that! Hi! I’m Áróra; it’s a pleasure to meet you. You have very pretty wings and a very nice tail! What’s your name? Are you here to get something music related? What kind of music do you like?” As she talked, her arms and hands were everywhere; she was very much a hand talker, but not just that, her face tentacles, other than the one holding a snack, also went this way and that as she spoke. When she finished, she held out a hand to shake.

Chusi was taken aback. Wow, she was hyper. Chusi blushed at the compliments; this girl kind of made her timid like when she was little, but not in a bad, scary way. She felt something close to her hand. She guessed it was Áróra's hand, waiting to be greeted, so she stretched her hand out and shaked it. "Hi, Áróra! I'm Chusi. S'not silly, Daddy says that there are different types of people n' music and some just don't listen as much as others." Chusi felt her golden feathers. "Thank you...I like my wings n' tail, too. You have pretty bouncy colors." She giggled. "Li Li gave me fifty dollars, so I'm gonna get a CD! I like soft n' pretty music! Daddy plays piano and Laixi plays violin! I like stuff like that!"

“Hello Chusi!” Áróra exclaimed, a wide grin spread across her face. She couldn’t help but giggle at the girls description of her. She knew she was colorful, but had never heard anyone describe her like that. She had no idea that Chusi was referring to her aura. “Thanks,” she replied, “Yeah my hair and wings are real colorful; they are both like rainbows!” Leaning in close, she suddenly added, “You have very pretty eyes!” Straightening back up, she stated, “You could buy 2 or 3 CDs with that much money.” Then, after thinking about it for a moment, she asked, “Do you think you could help me find some music? I really have no idea where to begin and you already know what you want and know people that play music.” She really was lost and could use all the help she could get.

Chusi turned bright red. Wow, Áróra was super nice. "You have wings, too? Can you fly? I'm kinda scared to fly. I can't see buildin's n' stuff 'cause buldin's aren't living. I see colors of living stuff!" She looked to the floor. "My eyes? Really, you like them?" She looked up with a confused look then finally smiled. "Thank you. No one's ever really noticed my eyes. Two or three CD's? WOW!!! I'd love ta' help you find some music! What kind do you'd think you'd like?"
Chusi looked around the store. A few more people had left. It was getting harder to tell what exactly her surroundings were. "...I uh..." She began to fiddle with the bottom of her shirt, " Áróra, um...I hate ta' ask this of you but uh...Daddy's over there talkin' to some snooty lookin' colors.." she stuttered, refering to Basil talking to the cashier up front. "Would you mind helpin' me around the store?"

More out of habit than anything else, she nodded to the girl, and replied, realizing that she doesn’t see in the normal way, “Yep, I have wings! Actually, they are more like double wings! And I can fly; actually I flew here, though I had a bit of a crash landing.” She couldn’t imagine what it would be like to fly without the ability to see. “Yeah, I imagine that would be difficult to do. Could you maybe learn magic to help you sense what was around you?” She smiled and nodded at what the girl said next. “Yes, I do. They are very pretty! And um, I don’t know. Something soft with a melody maybe? I don’t really know music that well.”
At her descriptions of how she saw things, Áróra couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to see in that manner. She already could sense things in an unusual manner, but to see people as colors and nothing else, she couldn’t imagine. “Well, you are helping me find music and I will help you around the store, it’s only fair right?” she stated with a giggle.

"Magic? Hm..." Chusi donned and intrigued look. She'd heard people talk about magic on TV and radio... she was defiantly going to have to ask Basil and Laixi more about magic. She crashed even though she can see without the colors? This scared Chusi a little. Áróra was a very strong, energetic color and she still crashed. Basil always said that people make mistakes but what if that mistake planted her face first on the side of a building? Maybe Áróra didn't think about that stuff...maybe that's a very good thing, too. Maybe worrying about that stuff weighs you down...
"Soft melody...that sounds ta' me like a type I really like called 'classical'! It's got what Daddy calls 'traditional instaments' like um...pianos and um...violins and ...well, I think it has a buncha other stuff. Then there's a kind Daddy says he really likes called 'soft rock'...I've felt a rock before and I never really thought it was soft." Chusi smiled, her mouth open wide. "Thank you Áróra! Thank you! I'm sorry you have ta' do this...but thank you thank you!" She reached her hand out to her and flashed an embarrassed grin.
Basil leaned over the counter, deep in conversation with the store clerk. "And she's just so so SO damn cute; I swear, she's like one of those, uh-- s**t, what are they-- PLUSHIE'S or somethin'. Those cute little dolls that look like cartoon characters? I think you sell a few--"
"Baz, for the last time...I don't care." Scoffed the man at the desk. He looked behind Basil at two winged children, one with face identical and one with a greenish tale. "Isn't that her?"
Basil turned around. "Yeah, that's my darling. Aww, lookit that! She's making another friend!"
"Shouldn't you be over there with your daughter?"
Basil rolled his eyes. "I'm not going to take parenting advice from a disc jockey."
"I don't play the music. I just sell it. Do you even know what a disc jockey is?"
"...I know you are, but what am I?"
"A moron."

“Yep! Magic!” Áróra exclaimed with a giggle. “Maybe some sort of sound based magic? Like advanced echolocation! That’s what bat’s use, well they use regular echolocation, but still similar! Are there any magics you would like to learn? I know technomancy! I still have plenty to learn, but I am getting better! I would offer to show you, but um, it would be rude to take over the store’s intercom system. So um, you see people in colors? Anything else like animals? Can you see magic at all? I can sense magic!” After a moment’s pause, she suddenly asked, “What color are you?”
“So, um, classical music?” Áróra asked and then added, “I like pianos; they have lots of moving parts inside. Like a machine!” She had seen plenty of instruments before, but had never heard much music, other then what was in video games. Taking the other girls hand, she asked, “So where should we start first?”

Echolocation? Technomancy? This kind of magic sounded AWESOME! Chusi's faced beamed with excitement. She knew a few people that had dealt with magic in some way, but never really knew about magic itself. "Neato!!! I gots ta ask lots about that when I get home!!! What is technamanshy? Technomancy. Or whatever. I see all living things in colors! One of my favorite colors is flowers. Each n' everyone is different, just like people." Chusi closed her eyes and thought of sitting lazily in the grass making flower crowns...that's when she was happiest. "I don't see magic as colors, though. I see magic as...um...I call 'em sparklies. They're really bright specks that float around peoples colors..."
...what color was Chusi? She never really thought about it that much. She held her hand up to her face. One or two sparklies floated around a sort of hazy, deep forest green color...she looked at her chest...greens and blues, and, again, one or two sparklies. "Huh. I'm kinda blue and green and...kinda sparklie. I wonder. Am I usin' magic just by sein'?"
"I like pianos, too! I guess they have lotsa parts to 'em. I don't really think about that. Do you like messin' with machine's and stuff? I bet you know how to play on a computer like Daddy does!" Áróra's colors glew a little brighter when she spoke of a piano being like a machine. Áróra's hand in hers, she smiled brightly and announced, "To the classical section!"

“Oh?” Áróra replied, curious as to whom she would ask, “Who are you going to talk about magic with when you get home?” Thinking about it for a moment, she began her explanation, “Well, technomancy is magic that affects technology, like machines and electronics. I can turn things on or off or do other things. Like if I wanted, I could talk over the intercom!” The mental image of the flowers brought a smile to her face. “So every flower is a different color then? Wow, that must be real pretty. Oh, can you see the sparklies only when someone does magic? Or if someone can do magic, do you see them all the time? My sense of magic, isn’t like sight, it’s different, it a different sense. Sometimes, I can describe a person’s magic in visual terms, like a person with fiery magic, well their magic looks fiery, but other things are harder to describe.”
“Ooo, you are green and blue? I like those colors!” Thinking about her question, Áróra replied, “Well, it is very faint, but I can sense it a little bit. Maybe because it is more of a natural, passive, internal type of thing? I mean I can sense it is there, but it isn’t as obvious as a lot of magic. Hmm, what colors am I?”
Scanning her surroundings, she soon saw a section labeled classical. As she led Chusi towards it, she replied, “Yes! I love playing with my computer and working with machines! I even have a mechanical cat as a pet. I helped my daddy build her, and then my technomancy teacher brought her to life. One day, I may even be able to do that! I wonder if she has a color…”

"My other daddy, Li Li!" Chusi exclaimed with a little bounce. "He's daddy's best friend ever! If Li Li comes over, I'm gonna ask him all about magic. His family is a bunch of shape shifters from some sorta dragon clan, so he should be able to answer SOME of my questions!" Chusi was absolutely amazed. "That sounds AWESOME! You would never ever need a microphone! Or a TV remote!" She thought of the colors she could see from flowers; the greens, reds, blues, and sometimes the sparklies. "It is very pwetty! I can sometimes see sparklies floatin' around Li Li, and I don't think he's doin' magic when I see 'em. I see a few around you every now and then, Áróra!" Áróra described magic in a more physical sense...Chusi thought of what she knew of fire. It was hot to the touch...it made her think of angry things...would she see fire magic as reds and blacks? Or just as sparklies? Would all magic just look like lots and lots of sparklies?
"I like greens n' blues, too! So you don't see sparklies...you just...oh, it's like you can FEEL 'em, right? AWESOME!" Chusi looked Áróra up and down. She was mostly lots of purples and yellows, and a few sparklies, but a lot more than Chusi had. The most sparklies she had were around the colors that would be where her head was, and most of the purple colors were concentrated there, too. Most of the yellows were where her hands and legs would be. "Um...purples and yellows and sparklies! You've got, like, six sparklies around your head!"
Áróra led her a little ways away from the entrance of the store. "Oo, what kindsa machines? Like, stuff at the laundry mat? Wow...a mechanical pet...that's amazin'!!! Your daddy and you must be awesome! You have a magic teacher? I wonder if I need one a' those. If your teacher can do it, I bet they could teach you to bring a machine to life, too!" Chusi was really puzzled...machines aren't living, but if it's a mechanical cat, then it can probably purr and rub against you and love on you like a real cat. If it can do living things, would it be living and have a color that Chusi could see? "I dunno if your kitty'd have a color or not...it might have some sparklies!"
