Quote:
Location: Crater Mountain

Originally, Crater Mountain was larger than the famed Mount Everest in the Living World, standing at over 9000 32,000 feet above sea level with a constantly snowy peak. On the other hand, it wasn't called Crater Mountain back then either. With the appointment of Captain Kyodai, he had decided to model a training area after his Inner World. This was achieved by smashing the former mountain with his Bankai, repeatedly. Now, the height of the edges of Crater Mountain are about 27,000 feet above sea level with the deepest portion of the crater at 26,000 feet above sea level. Due to the fact that this was newly created, it neither has the lake nor the sand that Kan's inner world boasts, but it serves as of his main and favorite areas to train and fight in.

Without the aid of shunpo, people find themselves forced to hump it up here like a champ, an impressive feat for anybody. At these higher elevations, the supply of oxygen is lower and the air is thinner, making training initially harder. However, once their bodies adapt to the high altitude and the lower air supply, people will find that they have higher stamina than before.

The redheaded Captain of the 10th Squad, Kyodai Kantoku, looked down on the thousand-feet deep crater. With each breath of the thin and frosty air, at such a high elevation, he expelled visible vapor. The winds whipped his disheveled hair and the former haori, tailored into a cloak now, backwards, revealing the heavily patterned scabbard of his zanpakuto. After finishing remodeling this mountain after the inner world of his zanpakuto spirit, Horunin, Kan was quite eager to make use of this training area for his squad.

On the other hand, other people were clearly eager to use it just as well. He had received a request for a "friendly" spar from a "Zebediah Flamstel" some time ago. From what he found out, Zeb was the Vice-Captain of the 12th Squad, used fire as his element, and generally a bit of a beast. Oh well, can't say Kan hadn't expected the sparring requests to roll in once word got out that some guy who hadn't even been out of the Shinigami Academy for a year had managed to pass the Captaincy Exam and become the new 10th Squad Captain.

Well, he'd wait for this Zeb to show up and get ready to kick a** and drink rum, and he was all out of rum.

"I've been waiting..." Zeb's words slurred from his mouth as the stench of alcohol reeked from his mouth. He stood behind the captain unnoticed, which for his size was very hard to do. "I've been drinking for weeks around these parts, and finally found you..." Staggering around as he drew his blade, and with minimal movements he kicked the captain square in the back over the lip of the crater.

Following suite, Zebediah jumped over the lip and slid down on his feet, the rough ground tearing up his waraji. "I hope you're enjoying your trip as much as I am! It's gonna start hurting though!" He laughed as the waraji tore completly, leaving just the wraps on his feet, sliding down effortlessly. As Zeb continued to move down faster and faster, the wraps began to get hotter, until they finally burst into flames.

Finally reaching the bottom after about 15 minutes, Zebediah's kosode was slightly burnt around the edges. "Slice to the core, burn the soul; Hikanakon!" With that verse spoken, his Zanpaku-tou burst into flame, and lengthened to six feet long on the blade. "I'm going to melt your face off Captain-kun!" he laughed as he staggered around a bit more but was able to hold his blade straight.

Kan responded to his taunt with one of his own. "And are you sure you're not over-compensating for something?" With a flourish, Kan threw back the left side of his cloak-haori, revealing his zanpakuto, and drew the blade. "Pierce the Heavens, Horunin!" Kan intoned, pointing his zanpakuto blade into the air. A green light enveloped it as it began to mold into its new form as a Shaolin Spade, this time with the flat, spade-like blade facing up and the crescent moon facing downwards. Just for effect, he also released more of his bronze reiatsu, which would hit Zeb like a sandstorm. Without hesitation, Kan slammed the crescent moon into the ground and began channeling his reiatsu through it into the ground.

The ground directly underneath the crescent moon of his Shikai began to break up into large chunks of rock and soon, it spread in a six-feet wide wave with its projected path all around the crater. Once the Seismic Wave returned to the left side of Kan, almost forming a ring of broken, unstable ground along the crater, Kan blasted his reiatsu downward and outwards, forming six spikes out of the ground angled in a barrage fashion towards Zeb, launching at a ten feet circle within his general area.

Sighing, Zeb spoke softly, all signs of his drunkenness vanishing in a moment. "Level one; release." Immediately, a wave of red-hot reiatsu billowed out around him, scorching the ground around him. "Do not take the mightiest Shinigami lightly... I have never once set foot in the academy, and am the strongest Shinigami that my master has ever met." To prove his point, Zeb gripped his blade tightly and pulled back for a swing.

Gathering his blazing hot reiatsu into his blade, and awaiting the spikes. "Burn to cinders..." Zeb swung his arm, releasing all of the fire stored in his blade. Immediately, the air around him got increasingly hot, causing the moisture in the air to sizzle, and causing the rock spires to violently explode outwards due to rapid expansion of minor air bubbles inside of them. The rubble then precedded to melt and skew even further away from their designated target. One piece got close to Zeb, but he quickly side-stepped, and received only a small burn. "Please Captain-kun, continue to educate me with your superior strength."

"Come Zeb-chan, you've been a Shinigami for how long now? Trash-talking a first-year like me won't get you any brownie points." Kan laughed back. It was true, while he had been chosen as a Captain probably for his large amounts of reiatsu and power, he had less training and experience than most Seated Officers. At least he was getting a good vibe out of his Zeb dude. His power was interesting too, Kan noted as a wave of warm air blasted past him. Straight, head on attacks seemed out of question with the way he eliminated those spikes... Or did they? Never know until you try, right?

"Oh I'll 'superior strength' you alright." Kan said as he got the blade side of his Shikai ready and looked around the wake of his Seismic Wave. After a split second, he found a decently large chunk of rock. Kan dug it out with the shovel-blade in one fluid motion and then mounted it like a surf board. Kicking off, he pointed the tip towards Zeb and raced off at him, leaving a trail of dirt clouds and flying gravel in his wake. Building up speed as he raced down the slope, Kan briefly became airborne when he came within thirty feet of Zeb. When the large rock chunk was nearly vertical, Kan kicked off backwards, sending it flying at Zeb.

"Hado #1: Sho!" Kan called out, blasting the large rock chunk with the lowest level Hado out there, increasing its speed. At the same time, he hit the ground on three limbs and sent himself after the rock chunk, Shaolin Spade at the ready.

With a flick of his wrist, Zebediah let out his own kidou. "Ye lord. Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man." he breathed in as the reiatsu mounted around his hand. The energy swirled about freely, given no shape by the incantation as of yet. "Inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, march on to the south. Hadou #31, Shot of Red Fire!" As he shouted the final word of the incantation, the energy swirled about his wrist and formed into a large ball which then compressed to a small, rock-sized ball. It then shot forward to the stone which it blew apart with it's power.

Closely following the Hadou, was Zebediah, his blade prepared for an upwards strike. "Burn Eefreet! BURN EVERYTHING TO ASHES!!!!" He roared as he let out his own monstrous and monumental reiatsu, causing a large up-draft in the crater, and turning the area into an oven of sorts.

Waves of heat blasted upwards from Zeb, causing sweat to form on Kan. He had also unleashed his reiatsu with that monstrous roar, it was only a matter of time before Kan followed suit or he'd be at a disadvantage. It was all about timing then. The crater was already becoming dreadfully warm, even despite its large size. He changed course in the little distance left between them and ran a serpentine course. Approaching Zeb, he gathered reiatsu into his legs and leaped high into the air, updrafts from the heat waves helping him rise. He was at a disadvantage here. He had graduated out of the Academy not that long ago, he had minimal Kido training, and he lacked experience overall. The only thing that made him stand out was his exceptional skill and Captain-level reiatsu, the same which could be said for Zeb. As he noted before, he would have to make sure the timing of the timing of his next few moves.

A red light engulfed Kan was he drew a symbol in the air. "Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini! Look upon yourself with horror and then claw out your own throat! Bakudo #9: Geki!" He chanted as the same red light surrounding him would surround Zeb.It was a weak Bakudo spell and he didn't expect it to work for too long, but it would serve as a temporary distraction. Building up reiatsu, Kan formed a solid circle of reiatsu in midair and used it to kick off, propelling himself towards Zeb with the crescent moon blade of his Shikai. At the same time, he released all of his reiatsu at once, causing a bronze light to explode outwards from him. The release of his elemental reiatsu would make it feel as though a sandstorm was raging around.

"Level 3..." Zeb muttered to himself as he let out all of his reiatsu; it felt as if a flaming steel wall would surround him. The next thing he did was to hold his blade directly in front of him with both hands. Immediately all of the raw, un-polished that surrounded him gathered to within a few inches of his body in a concentrated mass, signifying that he had reached his pinnacle of his focus.

The Bakudo hit him and all that could be heard was a deafening explosion as the flow of energy was disrupted and a cloud of dust enveloped the large and powerful Vice-Captain. "Captain-kun, you failed to understand one thing... I may only be a Vice-Captain, but I rival the captains in sheer power..." And with that, Zebediah Flamstel, 12th Squad Vice Captain, swung down as fire spit up from the blade and cut a huge fissure into the ground, narrowly missing the captain, but raising the heat in the natural oven by another 45ºF, and not a bead of sweat was seen on his brow.

The force and heat of the cut sent chunks of molten rock spewing in a 5 meter radius, some hitting Zebediah, which he hardly cared about as he flicked them off. "And working in the forge for weeks on end has made me impervious to burns and heat of this magnitude." He said as he raised his blade to block the incoming crescent shaped blade.

Level three? What is this I don't even... He thought to himself as a blast of flames roared past him, mere inches away from hitting him. The force of the attack had also blown him off track with his own, enough to end up having him land around four feet away, across from a fissure that had not been there before. Engaging in a purely physical contest would definitely cause him to instantly lose. The temperature had also been drastically raised by that attack Zeb launched, causing beads of perspiration to form, tricking down his face. The only way he could describe the heat was extremely ******** annoying, but that was an understatement. All he wanted right now was some ice cold vodka and some A/C.

"Why the hell are you in the 12th Squad?" Was all Kan's mind could come up with under the conditions. He didn't even know if the question he was really asking actually got sent through. Not that he cared much for that right now. Sweeping across with his Shaolin Spade, he batted away a few chunks of molten rock that flew at him. The flat of the blade knocked aside most of the rocks while the force of his swing sent the remainder away from him. He was amazed as how well Zeb was keeping up in the heat, barely registering his excuse for not suffering in this oven.

Instead, he clicked the clasp on his cloak-haori and threw it upwards at Zeb's face, going for a distraction. At the same time, he swung his zanpakuto downwards, purposefully coming short of making contact by a little bit. Instead, as the blade of his zanpakuto dug into the ground, he channeled his reiatsu through it. "Seismic Wave!" He called out as he instantly forced an uprising of six ten-feet long spikes to rip their way out of the ground in a pattern that would encircle Zeb. If he didn't dodge upwards quickly enough, the spikes would pierce various areas along his torso.

"I am in 12th Squad as the ultimate security." Zebediah said calmly as he rushed forward instincitvly, cutting the haori cleanly in half, and a wave of fire washed in front of him; his reiatsu was being transferred into pure power for his shikai, and the greater the heat, the more reiatsu he was able to gather and efficiently use. "I must thank you for choosing a giant crater... I thrive in heat." the large vice captain said as he heard the ground shake up behind him, and heard the unmistakable shhhnk of something sharp hitting stone behind him.

Following up his slash and fire was a round house kick aimed at where he last remembered the captain's head to be. The kick had enough force to shatter a stone column without any trouble, and would work wonders against someone's head.
