The weather was slowly warming and the lands of The Order couldn't have looked lovelier. Every rose was blooming and the air itself was thick with the sweet scent. The grass grew high and lush, wildflowers burst from the earth, and the waters ran crystal clear and warm. Demeter loved this season as much as she loved spring. She could feel an inner energy that made her tail sway and her feet pick up until she was walking and running and bounding like a pup. Of course puppyhood was far far behind her, the seasons had come and gone over and over leaving her youth far behind. Still she wasn't so old as to yet be decrepit and her pleasure and pride in the pack she and her daughter had come to call home had made her feel young again.

She lifted her head as the wind rushed past in soft breezes lifting and blowing her long fur about her. Slowly she sat down infront of a section of the great thorn wall. The thorn wall as they called it was a series of three rows of rosebushes grown closely together with only a few small gaps for entrance and exit leading to the packs dens. The roses were small and did not bloom as grandly as others, but the thorns grew long and dangerous. Overtime the bushes had grown closer and closer until they formed a near solid blockade that no creature but the smallest and cleverest would dare attempt to pass. Disneyana had spoken to Demeter and asked her to maintain the walls gaps lest they too overgrow and close. Of course Demeter was all too content to oblige her unique gift had allowed her to collaborate and aid in many of Disneyana's growing and gardening projects.

She gazed at the wolf sized gap in the thorns, yes Disneyana was right there were already brambles creeping down and thorns hanging low enough to snag in a tall wolves shoulders. She felt her tail brush the ground and in it's wake grass rose up taller. She closed her eyes and focused for a moment speaking softly to the growing brambles. Slowly they parted and wound away from the opening leaving it clear again, she smiled and stood slipping through.

Stout legs carried Winston onwards, he wasn't a particular lover of the summer, granted he admired the summer time blossoms however the heat didn't agree to him and there was something altogether brazen about the large summer time blooms compared to the tiny fragile ones that bloomed in these lands in early spring. Admittedly however he did have a weakness for the roses that bloomed in abundance in the pack lands at this time of year, it wasn't their appearance that pleased him most it was the heady scent that wafted upon the breeze and filled the nostrils. Winston was a wolf of simple pleasures and today was simply another day where he was sampling all the simple things life had to offer him at present.

He didn't stare with lust at the large blooms, he simply walked besides them like two lovers walking side by side, simply enjoying each others presence and every so often he'd lean in and inhale deeply and then smile and continue on his way. All the roses however seemed to have a deep root network and all seemed to originate from the thorn wall which encased the packs territory in a protective manner though every so often there was a small archway leading out into the greater expanse and it was by one of these such gateways his eyes came to rest upon another.

His grass green eyes, which were set deeply into his head, shadowed by his brow squinted slightly with curiosity. The other seemed to have a certain air about them, a nurturing soul and walked with a gentle grace of one that had lived a while and respected life and it's bounties. Curious by nature but not along the lines of a pup or young adult, this was the curiosity of an older creature that knew to question things as nothing was ever as it seemed and/or something could usually be gained from such events, he walked forwards and called out to the other, 'Ho there,'

It was no surprise to Demeter that the male who greeted her was unfamiliar though a pack mate. She had kept to herself and her daughter's company as much as possible since being welcomed into the pack by it's alphas. Still she was not completely antisocial simply she preferred to keep to herself and silently aid when needed. She walked over to the male, now that he had engaged her in a greeting it would be rude to simply slip away.

"Hello, I'm afraid we've not had the pleasure of an introduction..."

She felt a strand of fur slide down the longer mane in constant motion thanks to the breeze. Her tail swayed like the slow lull of the oceans waves and beneath her there was a curious shifting of the ground as if things were actually growing, blades of grass moving, creeping towards the female.

"I am Demeter, I was just helping Disneyana with the wall..." She glanced back where the opening was once again beautifully formed a hint of pride in her voice.

He observed the way she walked towards him and he smiled softly to himself and looked down his short snout at her but raised his head as she came closer and met her eye, they were earthen brown and he felt himself instantly absorbed by them. 'Ah an introduction, no I'm sorry to say I don't think we have had one.' He smiled warmly at her, his eyes staying upon hers, for he did not have wondering eyes and those he stared into engaged him. 'Demeter, it's an honest pleasure, my name is Winston.' at the indication of the wall his eyes followed the path she had taken from to the wall to him and he stared at the archway, it was clean and well formed as if the summers exuberant growth had been pruned away.

His eyes came back to hers though for a moment they slipped to her lips, if she had pruned the thorn wall it had not been with her mouth, his eyes then dropped down, neither was her legs marked by the thorns. He met her eyes once again though a question sparkled upon the green meadow of his iris' 'Would you like any help my lady, I have very little else to do on this fine day and I would always rather be put to use than not.'

"Winston, the pleasure is mine I'm certain you're very kind to offer your help. In truth some company as I walk along the wall to see what other entrances are in need of tending would be appreciated." She so rarely spoke to others it was a bit hard for her to invite him along. Still he did wish to help and she could offer him little else to do.

"Were you patrolling?" She asked curiously as she turned to continue walking at a leisurely pace while her eyes flicked over the greens and brambles beside them. She wasn't sure how many of the wolves of The Order kept guard over the packs lands. The terrain itself seemed defense enough in many situations, a land of beauty and hidden danger for those unwise or disrespectful towards nature.

'Oh no my lady, it's of no concern, I'm only to happy to help but if it's company your after I'll happily grant that but interesting conversation, well we'll have to see about that.' He harrumphed with good humour and a twinkle appeared in his eye before circling to come to her side and meet her pace, walking comfortably. At the mention of patrolling he puffed out his lips and lowered his eyes for a moment in embarrassment, 'No my lady, I'm afraid not.' he looked over his shoulder to he, catching only the mass of her gentle swaying mane, 'I'm too old to be of much use in that department.' He characteristically harrumphed once again and added gruffly, 'I could make some noise as an alert but I'm not as agile as I once was.'

He was avoiding the question however, of what he had been doing, not wanting to tell the other wolf who had purpose that he had simply been smelling the roses and content doing simply that.

She laughed softly amused by his honest answer and admittance of his age when other males might have boasted or exaggerated their abilities. Her eyes skimmed the wall amazed still by it's width and length which had been managed without her particular gift. She admired Disneyana's ability greatly and her children were fine testaments to what marvelous parents she and Allah were. Her own daughter had yet to place herself in the world, but Demeter knew she would, she just needed time to flourish.

She smiled at Winston "We can't all be spring blooms after all, some of us are older and more matured, but we have our place and ability. A younger male might patrol with a roving eye while an older one will stop and see that which is not always obvious. Wisdom gained with age is an important part of any pack after all. Or are you of the opinion we should leave it all in the paws of the younger generations?"
