Patience was not something that came easily to the pink haired teen, instead anxiety washed over him as he walked down the streets that would lead him to his girlfriend's apartment. It had been a day, maybe two (he was still fuzzy on the days because he had been knocked out in the brawl and still had a massive headache remaining) since he had seen her and while that wouldn't have been too abnormal he still couldn't help but feel that panicked feeling in the pit of his stomach.

He was certain she was fine. No, that was a lie. He wasn't sure but he thought, hoped she was but he hadn't seen her since before she left on that rescue team. He didn't know that she had emerged from the burning warehouse perfectly intact, had spotted him and tried to reach him only to be stopped. He didn't know that the new General-Queen Tanzantie had whisked her away at the end.

Chase was used to being in the dark, it covered many aspects of his life but he didn't like being in the dark when it came to Kaia. They had been dating for only a few months but Chase felt a certain degree of possessiveness that he couldn't shake. It wasn't the kind where he basically stalked her but whenever he found himself worrying about her, which was the case here, he was driven by a need to see her. To make sure she was okay, and if she wasn't? Then it was his job to make sure she got there, to make sure that she was happy.

Upon reaching her apartment door, he rapped his knuckles on the wood and waited, shoving a hand in his jacket pocket to hide the clenched fist as he waited anxiously for her to answer.

Kaia should have taken it easier the day after the fight, but instead she'd worried about everyone but herself and made the ache in her entire body that much worse. It seemed someone had managed to convince her to take it easy though, because she was stretched out on the couch watching TV when the knock at the door surprised her.

She frowned as she swung her legs down to the floor, wincing a little and trying to hide it as every muscle and bruise on her body protested. By the time she had reached the door a few minutes had passed, but she had learned to hide the worst of the pain behind a pleasant smile.

Then that smile brightened visibly when she swung the door open and saw that it was Chase.

"I didn't know you were coming," she stepped aside immediately and motioned for him to come in. She had known he was alright because he hadn't numbered among the dead or the injured she'd been asked to see. She should have called, though, to check. Sometimes being in the Negaverse rearranged priorities, though.

"I'm just watching some TV, but you're welcome to join me." She shrugged a little and pointed at the couch, trying not to give away that her back hurt so much. The lingering bruises on her face and arms were enough of a hint, though. "Unless you needed something?" The second option only just occurred to her and her bright smile faltered slightly.

Chase himself was fairly bruised, from previous fights mixed with getting knocked out at the big battle but someone had pulled him from the fray before things got too badly. He wished he knew who, so he could thank them. But his were none compared to what Kaia probably felt. He had seen worse, had been through worse and any bruising that had occurred was skillfully hidden beneath his clothing. He almost always wore long sleeves, or a jacket.

He smiled in return, albeit weakly as he let out a sigh of relief. "Yeah, sorry," he apologized glancing down then back up at her. "I should've called, didn't really mean to just show up but I just impulsively came her," he explained in a jumble of words. It was true, he had been worried about her well-being and how she fared but up until thirty minutes ago he hadn't decided to just show up at her apartment but he did.

"No. Yes," he paused, pressing his lips together in thought before running a hand through his hair. "I just needed to see you," he stated softly giving her his soft smile. He missed her. Gingerly touching her cheek his amber eyes trailed down her arm and he frowned.

"Have you been resting?" Concern decorated his face as he looked back up at her, gaze tracing the lingering bruises on her face. He was sure she had put other injuries before her own, which could only further aggravate her own.

She laughed gently at his ramble and just shook her head at him, trying to dissuade his silly fears. "I don't mind that you showed up, I'm actually glad you came by. Don't apologize for being concerned."

When his hand touched her cheek she smiled and leaned into it, for a moment lulled out of the sense of stiffness and stress that wound her body as tight as a coiled spring. Then he saw the bruises and she stiffened again, pulling her face back some so she could see the bright purple and yellow spots blooming on her pale skin.

"A little," it was the truth, but then, everyone's definition of 'a little' was different. She frowned and reached up to take the hand that had been stroking her cheek and coiled her fingers with it instead, until she could pull him along to the couch to sit back down with her.

"I had a lot of stuff to do, we don't have many medics and I can't.. take a day off while someone could be dying." She sighed and pulled the blanket she had been sitting with back up over her body, hiding the bruises from sight. She employed the same technique with Hiro and Khal, so they wouldn't bother her about them, even if Hiro tended to be a little more hard to sway.

"Have you been okay? No bad injuries or anything?" She gave him a quick glance over but returned her eyes to his face when it seemed like it was all okay. She'd only seen him briefly before she'd been sidetracked in the field of battle.

"A little isn't enough," he told her softly, so softly it was nearly inaudible. He wanted to say more but he kept quiet as she interlaced her fingers in his and tugged him along. He followed easily offering no resistance as she led him to the couch, sinking down onto the cushion. "I know," he sounded sad, almost regretful with the fact that she was their primary medic. It couldn't be helped, she had been most willing and came with a fair bit of knowledge that she used to care for their wounded.

"I just wish that," he paused struggling to find the words he was looking for. "I wish you didn't have to strain yourself too much, but I understand. We're in the middle of a war," he sighed watching as she tried covering her bruises. Hiding things didn't stop him from talking about it.

He reached over, tugging the blanket down and touching one of her bruises softly running his thumb over it as he leaned towards her. "I'm fine, I didn't really fight much," he admitted, excluding the part where he had been knocked unconscious in the middle of it. It would worry her too much, she had enough on her plate he didn't want to add to it.

"Got a few bruises but they'll heal quickly, nothing I can't handle, but we're not talking about me," he stated rubbing her arm gently. "You're in more pain than you pretend, I can tell that you probably took a beating." He had seen many fights, many injuries and knew full well that not all pain was visible. You could only hide so much.

"I'm not here because someone wanted to be my friend," she said sadly, reaching up with one hand to brush her thumb gently across his face. "I'm here to fight." She didn't have to tell him the same old story about being nothing but a weapon, he knew it as well as she did because he was a part of their army. It didn't change the fact that she was though, or that Alkaid was who she would always be.

Kaia was an afterthought, except with the few people she had learned to be her with. Like Chase.

"Yes, I did," her voice was quiet when she said it, almost sad. She didn't want to be sad now though, not with him here, and talking about what had happened would inevitably ruin whatever chance she had to spend time with him and be happy. "I'll tell you about it later, not right now, it's not important." Her words were little more than a whisper by the end.

She glanced down at the hand that was softly stroking her arm, then back up to his face with a smile. Despite the fact that she hurt all over, he was making her feel better. He could do that so easily.

She leaned up then and caught his lips with hers, softly. It sent a shiver down her spine, just like it always did, and her cheeks were flushed red with her sudden nerves. She'd learned a long time ago that she didn't have to pull away and hide from that feeling though and she just shut her eyes as she brushed the hand on his face down his cheek gently, resting it against the crook of his neck.

"I know," he replied almost bitterly, "but it doesn't mean that I have to like it." He knew full well that the negaverse used their senshi as weapons and nothing more. It was a war that they were fighting in, he was one of their soldiers and she was a weapon. But outside of the fighting, outside of the negaverse he was Chase, she was Kaia and they were a couple. He was just a boy who was crazy about a girl, the girl sitting right in front of him.

But the negaverse parts of their life outweighed the civilian parts, as much as he hated to admit it. Still, he wanted to pretend even if it was only temporary.

"Kaia," his tone was gentle but firm as he opened his mouth ready to argue with her when her lips pressed against his. Startled because he usually made the first move he leaned into the kiss. He placed a hand over hers, his other hand sliding down her cheek to her chin, cupping it as pulled away for air only to kiss her again.

He leaned forward, moving his hand from it's place on top of hers to the top of the couch. His thumb stroked her cheek before he moved it, wrapping it around her waist as he pulled from her to kiss her jawline, then her neck.

Whenever she kissed him, he forgot about everything else.

She'd made a gamble that she could see she was about to lose. Her kiss had distracted him, calmed him, but there was a reason he usually made the first move. He knew how.

She drew breaths as he did, brushing one hand up his chest slowly until it too reached his neck, then simply slid her arms around it to hold herself close to him. Her heart was beating hard against her chest already, like it might pound it's way out of her ribcage, but she was sinking hard and fast for him as he got the upperhand.

Her eyes fluttered closed as his lips brushed down her face and her hands moved, twisted so they could stroke up through his hair. She was drawing deep breaths then, trying to fight the way her chest constricted with each kiss, every small brush of his lips and hands.

She could distract him, but he could make her helpless.

Chase had always been aware that he was the more experienced one in their relationship, she'd told him as much when they first began dating. But he had no problem taking the lead, it was easy. It had always been easy. He kissed the crook of her neck, lingering slightly sucking a bit. Just enough to leave a small mark but nothing too noticeable. He was always careful that he never left a big mark, an obvious one.

He left subtle marks whenever they did make out, only to let those who did notice know that she was taken, that she was his. He had strange possessive impulsive tendencies and some of the hickeys he would leave were a result of it. This time he was even more careful, with every kiss and every touch because of her bruises. His kisses dropped to her shoulder, sinking slowly down to her collarbone.

He was always so careful to not push her limits, to step out of the boundaries. He never wanted to push her or pressure her and the minute she'd tell him stop, he'd stop without question no matter how much he wants to go on.

One of his hand slides down her side and his fingers play with the end of her shirt. He doesn't attempt to lift it at all but he's tempted, so very tempted. He lifts his head and smiles at her in that soft smile where his gaze softens and he just looks at her like she's the only person in the world. Looks at her in a way that anyone watching can tell he's in love with her. It mostly shows in her eyes.

Then his phone starts to ring, loudly and inwardly he curses the fact that he forgot to turn the ringer off. He pulls away, fumbles for the phone awkwardly. "I'm sorry I'm just going to turn it off," he quickly tells her, mildly embarrassed that it went off at all.

She was all too aware of where his lips moved, they felt like fire against her skin with every little place they touched. She was familiar with the feeling by now, but still so new to it every time that it always made her gasp. As he kissed the length of her neck and dropped to her shoulder, she did so again, though it mingled with a laugh that suggested it probably tickled.

She managed to open her eyes as she felt his head drawing away from her, letting the bright citrus of her irises rise up to meet his softer ones. The smile on his face brought one to her own and she reached out to brush the back of her hand along his cheek, affection radiating from her in waves.

She was just about to lean up and catch his lips again when the phone rang and she fell back into the cushions piled on that side of the couch, sighing at the predictability of it. Chase's phone was always ringing.

"No, answer it, it could be important." She was mildly irritated, but she also knew the importance of always taking calls. It might have just been that no one called her unless there was something she needed to do, though.

He frowned, aware that she wasn't happy. His phone rang far too often for either of their liking. Usually he remembered to turn it off whenever he was with her. Stupidly he had forgotten and he was paying the price. He sighed as he pulled the phone out glancing at the caller id that lit up his screen.

It was his father.

"Crap," he cursed under his breath careful not to swear too much, he didn't like swearing in front of Kaia regardless of whether or not she cared. He always watched his language around women. "I'm sorry, I won't be long," he promised untangling himself from her and standing, walking away from the couch and to a corner, avoiding the possibility of her overhearing too much of his conversation.

"Hello?"

There was a bunch of chattering on the other end and by the way his face paled it was obvious that whomever was on the other line wasn't happy. "Alright," he mumbled, pressing his fingers against the bridge of his nose. "I've got it, no I'm sorry. I should've remembered. Yes," he was cut off and frustration flickered across his expression. "Fine. I'll be there soon." He hit the end call button quickly, rubbed his face and walked over to his girlfriend.

"I'm really, really sorry but I've got to go," he told her sadly gently caressing her face. He gave her a quick chaste kiss before pulling away. "I'll make it up to you okay? I just...It's important that I leave," he was frowning even as he said it, backing away. "I promise that I'll make it up to you."

She frowned as he pulled away from her so quickly and walked to the other side of the room to have his conversation. She tried not to pry, but the way he reacted was concerning and all she really wanted to do was alleviate whatever was stressing him out.

She couldn't even get her hopes up that he was staying as he walked back to her, not with the way he was rubbing his face and already thinking about whatever was bothering him. She knew before he even said it that he was about to cut their visit impossibly short. She just waited for it though, letting him kiss her but finding it impossible to enjoy it as much as she had before.

"I know you will," she said softly, though the frown on her face seemed disbelieving. She kept watching him as he backed away, until he was gone and out the door, and she finally just sighed and rubbed her hands up over her own face. It had been a tiny relief from all the horror she'd been dealing with, but it had been no where near enough to take it out of her mind.

Worst yet was that she had no idea who had pulled him away so quickly, and as much as she didn't want to distrust him, he was sometimes just too secretive about his civilian life beyond the grasp of the Negaverse.

She finally just rolled over and pulled the blanket back up to her chin, trying to get as comfortable as she could while the ache settled back into her body. She would sleep, because he'd asked, but also because sleep meant she didn't have to think.
