If she'd been just a few years older, Ever thought as he waited outside the library with an unlit cigarette tapping against his scarred palm, then they could have met in a bar. It seemed to him that much -- or perhaps even most -- of the Negaverse fell frustratingly into the 'underaged' category, and the result was that he was frequently left feeling old. Twenty-two, now, it was strange to him that he was frequently the eldest person in a room full of Officers, and it grated sometimes having under-eighteens tell him what to do.
Mostly he smothered the urge as well as his concerns. He shouldn't worry about taking them to a bar, or about small dangers like drinking or cigarettes. If he took the time to ponder it, they did much worse to themselves than most teenagers did, and these minor vices were nothing in the face of putting their lives on the line.
On the other hand, however, they were still teenagers. Let them be.
So. Meeting at the library, then, and he hadn't been bright enough to say meet around the corner so that he could light up without Tony seeing. The librarian had never objected outwardly to Ever's smoking, but it made him self-conscious all the same. He spun the cigarette around his finger and finally gave up, settling it against the corner of his mouth and reaching for his lighter.

Tali had finally got off her shift at HMV, she loved her day job however it was the work she did after the sun went down which really got her heart racing. Today she was meeting a Captain who was going to teach her a few things, she did not know exactly what for the time bring but never the less she was excited. Before today all she had done was patrol, train and observe. However now, finally, she felt like she might be able to do a little more. That she was actually getting somewhere.
She could not really admit to going to the library that often if at all, it always seemed like such a dull place, not one that a teenager would want to hang around. She liked books, not to access but she read every so often. I guess it was the silence more than anything she did not like, when she got there her pace slowed and her candy pink eyes started to search out the person who she was looking for. He had told her to meet him around the corner, so as instructed she did.
In her line of sight there was only one person, a man who had just lit up a cigarette. She looked at him a little dumbfounded, she did not know if he was who she was looking for however he was here, that was a good indication. She wondered over to him, her hands in the pockets of her hoodie.
"Ahem... expecting anyone?"
She asked, not really knowing what else to say.

Her voice made him blink, eyes lifting from the struggle of getting a plastic dollar-store lighter to actually catch. Ever might not have been what she was expecting but, in all honesty, she was about what he'd been thinking of: young, yes, with a bit of attitude in her style of dress, and that edge of confusion that marked her clearly in his mind as 'newbie'. Even if she wasn't.
He made a noise, gestured, got the cigarette to catch, pushing away from the wall as he tucked the lighter down into his pocket. He moved carefully, a hint of scab on mostly-healed knee showing through the tears in battered pants and a trail of smoke following him as he held out a hand toward her.
"You're Talim?" There was a hesitation just before the name, like he couldn't remember which was which and had to check in his mind. Either, to him, sounded like a possible mineral, and he hoped he hadn't messed it up. "I'm Ever, we should go before I get scolded over the smoke."

"Hu-hu."
She nodded, looking at the man, he was wearing old ripped clothes. She did not come here with a picture in mind but this guy seemed like the kind who would hang around in a shady alley asking little girls to take packages to the bus stop. She was not expecting some suave James Bond kind of agent... thought that would have been quite impressive, but Ever... now she would have never guessed she would be meeting someone like him today.
"Scolded? Wow..."
She would not continue her sentence however the fact that a Captain would let someone tell him off was something she had not thought about. I mean he was a rank above her but in the 'normal' world he was still just someone taking orders and trying to get by. She was sure when she was a Captain no one would control her or tell her what to do... or at least she thought that was the way things would be. She was sure that Tanz did not let anyone boss her around! She had never met the General Queen but after hearing her name and instantly Tali had fallen in love with her. It is funny how that works...
"Lead the way, I am here to obey."
She stated with a small shrug, rolling her arm and giving a small bow. Moving herself to the side so he could get past. He was not what she expected, truth be told she was a little disappointed. Yet she tried not to let it show and instead thought about all the cool things he could teach her!
"Soooooooo... where are we off?"

"We're going to get away from my place of work so that no one suspects secret identities." He said it with a quirk of a smile, looking back to her and hesitating just a little. After a breath, he offered out the pack of cigarettes so that she could take one if she wanted. It was clear from his posture that he expected her to turn them down, his head cocked and an eyebrow raised, but it was rude not to share if she wanted it.
"Then we're going to change into uniform and do a little roof-walking, because I want to make sure someone gave you a lesson in that." Where 'lesson', naturally, meant running and having her follow. That was how Faya had taught him, wasn't it? "And then we'll find a good place to gather up some energy."

"Seems like a plan."
She nodded, she loved wondering around as Trona. She felt unstoppable as her alter ego. Maybe it was because people were scared of her, maybe it was because no one knew who she was, it was just thrilling. Though she did admit she craved the power of the higher ranking officers, she had worked her butt off to try and achieve it. Maybe after today she would feel that one step closer! She smiled as he offered her the packet, wondering how old he thought she was. Tali was one of those kids in high school who spent their breaks behind the bins with her friends, truthfully she did not take her education all too seriously. She took one from the packet and then reached into her own hoody to grab her lighter, she always kept it close by because after a shift she needed some kind of release. Man, she did not miss school.
"Thank you!"
She beamed, before nodding at his next statement.
"Haha, the rooftops are my playground. I am usually stuck on patrol with my... ahem.. partner. So you do not have to worry about that."
She paused before she said partner because she was used to calling Zippy much worse, he was annoying and childish and the two spent most of the patrol fighting each other and throwing snide comments, he was not a gentleman like Ever who offered her smokes. Zippy was probably too naive to know what one was... jerk. None the less if the rooftops were where they were going she was keen to show him what she could do, a pat on the head was something she appreciated.
"Now that sounds exciting, I mean I have heard about it but no one has shown me how to do it yet. I guess you can say I have only been through the crash course and not been filled in with the details. What do we do with the energy after we have collected it?"
She asked, if he was here to teach her she might as well make sure she was getting all that she could from him.

Ever made a faint noise, not exactly thrilled with her teaching so far [or maybe it had to do with her taking a cigarette, hard to tell], as he tucked the box back into his pocket. He shot one last brief look toward the library and then they rounded the corner, the building vanishing out of sight.
His eyes resettled on her as he tapped off his cigarette. He, at least, thought he was doing pretty well. Not the picture she might have imagined, as worn out as he looked, pale and skinny, but at least he was holding an attitude that sufficed. Talim didn't have to know that it was put on.
"Um. You give it to your Captain." But he paused, suddenly uncertain, his eyebrows knitting together. "You have a Captain, right?"

"Sort of kind of, not really. I just do what I am told. Schee is the one who brought me here, Zink is the one who took me under his wing for a while and you are the one who is teaching me this. I guess I am yet to join a 'team' so to say."
And truth be told she did not really want to, Talim has always done things on her own, she had always had to so why should Tona be any different? Why would it be easier to rely on others when so much more was at stake. One day she would be strong enough to not have to.
She looked at the buildings that were around her, cigarette hanging casually out of the side of her mouth and hands in her pockets. It was funny to think this was a average afternoon for her, some girls spend their free time shopping, Tali spent it learning how to drain the life out of people.
Well being normal would be boring.
"So are we ready to start the fun yet?"

"Not until you have a Captain." His tone was dry, not quite rolling his eyes at her -- but despite the protest, he caught her elbow to pull her out of sight down an alley way, where they could change without being viewed. Ever hauled one last time on his cigarette before stomping it out, still hissing out smoke as he changed: the somewhat-ratty clothing replaced by his uniform, green plaid, duct tape at the elbows.
Ilmenite was a captain, but he didn't seem eager to leap into the leading role. Or, at least, not to leap into it with her. "If you need somewhere to bring the energy, bring it to me, and I can pass it on to Zink. He's General now, and he's my general, so that works out. If you find another Captain, that's fine, just let me know."
He raised one hand as he shrugged and leaned back, waiting for her to join him in uniform.

As she was dragged her own cigrette went flying out of her mouth, she pouted. Not because she had lost her smoke but because she hated being man handled with a deep and burning passion. She hated being touched when it was not on her own terms. HATED IT.
"That is fine by me."
She resisted the urge to call him 'old man', Trona might have been a mouthy little princess to those of her own rank however she had learned to hold her tongue around anyone who was able to put her head through a wall.
She changed shortly after he did, closing her eyes. Her uniform was a mixture between plum, pink and brown. A leather skirt with a jacket to match, on the back a was a crystal pattern and on her feet the little wings on her shoes were flapping as always, her weapon. She flicked her raven stands of hair over her shoulder before resting her hand on her hip.
"Well then, Captain."
She started, ready for him to lead on.

She tensed enough to leave Ilmenite rolling his eyes, tugging the hem of his jacket into place and rolling his shoulders in a quick shrug. He barely waited for her agreement before he grabbed hold of the bottom of a fire escape to haul himself up, just assuming that she could -- and would -- trail along behind him. He'd done this enough, now, that he was getting fast. Not graceful, but he knew how to drag himself from one place to another easily enough...
"I think it's late enough for the alcoholics to kick in, so we'll start there." His tone was dry, not entirely serious -- and yet. He flicked a look down to make sure she was at his heels once he'd made it to the top of the building, paused a moment to give her a chance to catch his breath, and then took off across the rooftops.
He knew this area. He worked here, lived not too far away, at this point. More importantly, though, he knew the bars: in uniform, out of uniform. He knew the fun ones, and he knew the ones where people showed up too early in the evening and were drunk already.
"You lure them out." Called back over his shoulder, tone gone dry. "Or wait, if you can be patient. Ask them for something. Ask for a light, directions, make sure they're alone. Make contact, then you just pull."

That is when the game of cat and mouse began, Trona tried her hardest to keep up, she tried harder than she usually would on patrol not wanting to be shown up in-front of a Captain. As she moved the little wings on her heels continued to flutter like their life depended on it. It never did much use - she could not help but wonder how they would progress as she moved through the ranks.
She stalked him like a hawk, jumping from roof to roof, copying his steps as closely as she possibly could, she could do this, screwing up was not a option! Then they got to the bit she wanted to hear. The reason why she was here in the first place....
"I can do that... so you just pull? That seems a little too simple but I will take your word for it Captain."
I mean that had to be more to it than just a yank. She nodded folding her arms as she looked down to the people bellow with curious eyes. Deep down she was getting some sick high from this... she wanted to feel someone's life in her hands. She was a predator and she freakin loved it.
"Think I can have a quick demonstration, please?"
She asked - if she saw how if was done first hand she was sure that the idea would be easier to wrap her mind around.

A part of him twitched at the question, and he had to bite down on a comment, an 'oh for Christ's sake...' Instead he just nodded, even if the gesture was a bit curt, and tried to play good teacher instead of short-tempered Captain. It wasn't, in fact, like he had better things to do.
"Just wait here. Don't do anything stupid." Okay, maybe not that great of a teacher; he gestured for her to sit near the edge of a roof and, for his part, started down the fire escape. Ilmenite was getting the hang of this, able now to mostly muffle the clatter of soles against metal, making his way down carefully to settle in the alley way. Bar around the corner: Trona would be able to track his movements as he straightened his jacket and tugged at his belt, putting himself in order.
And then she could watch as he played a trick he'd played a hundred times before: asking for a light for his cigarette from a lone smoker, leaning in to cup it and grimacing as it mysteriously kept going out. A lure into the alley way, a nod of his head, his mouth forming words she couldn't hear [out of the wind maybe?] and the man followed him.
He paused to let the man light it for him in earnest, and then blocked to chat him up. Ilmenite didn't have to touch to draw the energy, but perhaps Trona would get a feel for it: the draw and the shift, the cluster of energy. It wasn't much to look at, but other senses might fill in the details, if she was sharp.
A two minute conversation and the man was slumped at his feet. Ilmenite took a moment to steal his lighter [it had been nice] before levering his way back up the fire escape.
