Tech-savvy - Jas likes his technology, and he likes it sleek and shiny and new. He gets pretty nerdy about his opinions on everything from laptops to headphones. But the only thing he likes better than a brand-new computer or phone is jailbreaking and hacking his way to the features he wants. Jas has become proficient enough in the art, between years of failed attempts, obsessively reading forums, and his now-incomplete computer science degree.
Modern Art - Remember all those failed attempts? This is where they went. Whenever Jas reduced his hardware to doorstops and paperweights, he would send them off by taking them apart and looking at the insides (though he's never been as good with hardware as he is with software). It gave him an interesting look on things, leading him to have an appreciation for installation art and sculpture in modern art venues. Using the leftover parts, he hasn't yet managed to make anything himself that really speaks to him the way some of the work he's seen has, though.
Looking Good - Jas thinks he's pretty good looking. And a good looking guy shouldn't be ashamed to show it off. An inordinate amount of time is spent on keeping up his appearance. He stocks his bathroom with as many weird shampoos, facial scrubs, and other beauty products as a teenage girl, and he has a closet full of businesslike wear and 'hip' day wear. Once he's befriended someone, Jas tries to raise the bar as far as their personal appearance goes, if it's necessary. Clean, well-dressed company is usually good company.
Virtues:
People Person - Jas is an incurable extrovert, always gravitating toward social situations. The idea of living alone and unknown is unthinkable to him, so any way to get his name out there is time well spent. As much as he prefers to be the center of attention, he's learned at least the usual give and take pattern of conversation. He's outgoing and friendly enough to make the first move in a situation.
If At First You Don't Succeed - Tenacity. Determination. Jasvinder might be out of the running temporarily but he's no quitter. If he starts something, he finishes it, no matter how long it takes, or how many mistakes he makes along the way. His methods aren't always conventional, practical, or legal, but he always has a plan.
Textbook Knowledge - Between school curriculum, after-school programs, tutors, wiki-surfing, and hours upon hours in libraries, Jas has an excellent pool of textbook knowledge to draw from, however esoteric. He's very smart in certain ways, with an excellent memory and recall. He can also do some pretty complex math in his head. Just don't interrupt him when he has that 'thinking' look.
And Every Thing In Its Place - Jas is a 'spring cleaning' kind of guy. And he likes to do 'summer cleaning' too. And fall. And winter. And really, any time things start to pile up more than one layer high. He prides himself on being organized, always knowing where he keeps his things, and will very generously offer to help others achieve the same organizational zen.
Flaws:
Narcissist - There's self-confidence, and then there is narcissism. Jasvinder, as an only child who bore the pressure of academic achievement his whole life, developed a handy coping mechanism - a massive ego and some vanity to go with it. Not only does he think every little detail about himself is absolutely enthralling to others, he sees himself as infallible and incredibly clever, and has made more than a few huge mistakes because of it. Probably the most prominent, Jas was kicked out of a very prestigious university for cheating, under an assumption he was too smart to get caught.
High-Strung - Given his perfect self-image, Jas doesn't tolerate a lot of imperfection from those sorry slobs around him., He is compelled to fix things he considers wrong, and agonize over anything he can't fix. He'll correct your grammar without missing a beat, he'll be your backseat driver free of charge, and if you don't know which one is the salad fork, well, you're about to learn all about silverware. He's only trying to help, but it can really get annoying. However, he is also his own worst critic when things go wrong, leading to some serious negative feedback loops.
Passive-Aggressive - Jas isn't the type to get in your face when he thinks you made mistakes or crossed him, though don't mistake it for mercy. No, if anything, it's a hundred times worse. He's a master of the art of passive-aggression. He's not going to confront you, but he will sigh, roll his eyes, make pointed comments, and he can give you a mean left-handed compliment. And he'll expect an apology the whole time, but he'll never tell you what you did. Because he knows you know; you did it on purpose.
Germophobe - Jas has issues with cleanliness, in that he doesn't trust anything else around him to be as clean as he is. Showering twice a day is normal, right? He carries hand sanitizer around everywhere he goes, and isn't very subtle about using it to make statements, such as after shaking hands with someone he doesn't like. It's an irrational fear, though - he can become very agitated and upset in situations where he spends a long time unable to clean himself off after getting dirty. And with him, intimacy is..... interesting. |
