Griffin strolled along the streets at dusk, powered down and with her hands in the pockets of her shorts. It wasn't that she was taking an evening stroll around the town, but she was looking for something, it seemed. Her blue eyes looked sharp down every alleyway and into every shadow. This was a patrol, plain and simple, but Griffin- otherwise known as Sailor Maenalus- wasn't powered up at the moment. She didn't want to attract strange looks in her senshi uniform or any ne'er do wells because of her energy signature. She wanted to have the element of surprise on her side.

With her fists in her pockets, one hand was clutching her henshin pen. The metal was now warm from her having held it the entire time, and she constantly ran her thumb over the engraving on the end of it. If some bad guy showed themselves, she'd have time to power up because everyone around would be distracted, right? That was the plan, anyway.

The senshi had been out for a while now, and she had noticed as the streets' population changed from crowded to couples on dates and then to those headed home. The sky had time to change from blue to magenta, as well. Though everything seemed right with the world for now, Griffin could tell things seemed unnaturally good, in a way. Cliché as it was, things were too quiet.

It wasn't Ainsley who was running down the back alley in bunny slippers as the sky darkened. It was Sailor Chibi Hypnos who was being chased down by a youma, yet again. She really didn't like to fight but she had still managed to get the attention of the youma off a couple in the park not very long ago, inevitably pissing the hungry youma off enough to chase her down a couple blocks. Was she handling it well? Aside from the fact a youma wanted to probably rip off her legs and the fact she refused to do the same to it, she seemed to be in one piece and mentally fit. At least as mentally fit as you could call a senshi who refused to things people had defined senshi for. She didn't believe it and she certainly wouldn't have it. She just wanted to make sure it didn't eat anyone, or hurt anyone. Her main concern that it was going to eat someone and the first course was probably her.

It would be hard to tell the small child was a senshi, especially just by appearances. She just looked like she was ready for bed, perhaps she was sleep walking, rather, sleep running. She was certainly sleep something, but who would have guessed it was senshi of sleep? Certainly not the alley cat as the child suddenly tripped over as it decided to strut across the passage just as Sailor Chibi Hypnos run around the corner, causing her to fall to the ground with the youma on her toes. Youma or not, immediately the child was more concerned about the cat than herself becoming tonight's dinner.

"Oh no!" She cried in surprised, much louder than expected. If anyone had heard it from outside the alleyway, they might have thought someone was in trouble. "Are you all right kitty?" She asked the cat in a softer tone. It was certainly better, and much more quiet. Perfect for trying to avoid the youma you stole dinner from. It seemed to be having trouble finding the child now that she had stopped moving. She was trying to keep perfectly quiet now as the youma looked around intently for her, trying to think of a plan to get by it before it found her.

Griffin heard the sounds of crashing down an alleyway. Maybe it was a youma! Or maybe it was just a stray animal or someone dumpster diving... But maybe it was a youma! When she heard a small voice shouting in distress, her mind was made up. Time to power up! Whether it really was a monster or maybe just a little girl scared of a stray dog, Sailor Maenalus would be there to help!

She ducked into a phone booth, incredulous that they even still existed, especially in such a convenient place for so comic-book of a purpose, and took out her henshin pen. She then accidentally hit her hand on the ceiling of the booth and then her head on the side, and while unstable, picked up a foot and found that the floor was wretchedly sticky. Oh god this is terrible. I never want to see a phone booth again. Then she noticed the fetid smell. She might as well have jumped in a dumpster. At least those weren't transparent. Well, this one was more opaque from the dust and grime covering the walls. Was that a dead animal? She was going to be sick.

Holding her nose, Griffin raised her hand again and shouted (in a very nasally voice) "Maenalus power, Make-Up!" The girl transformed and became senshi, and bust out of the phone booth. Fresh air, thank god. Now back to the matter at hand! She sprinted in the direction of the scream that she'd heard. Hopefully she wasn't too late. What she found was a little girl cradling a cat and a youma. Of course, with her flashy entrance and sudden movement, she'd now drawn the youma's attention to her. It had seemed confused and like it would give up, but Maenalus' 'perfect' timing got it to hang around. Slowly she advanced to pass by the little girl and put herself between her and the youma.

It wasn't until she was almost on top of the little girl that she realized she was giving off the energy of a Senshi! Well, a small senshi, but a senshi nevertheless! Her eyes grew wide and she said softly "You're a senshi too!?" Youma forgotten, Maenalus was now caught up in the discovery of just what a Chibi Senshi looked like.

Sailor Chibi Hypnos thought the youma was about to leave and go try and eat someone else when it stopped and the girl's eyes spun trying look for a reason why. It concerned her that perhaps someone new had unknowingly come into the alleyway and become the prime target for the youma. She wasn't very good at energy detecting, so when she looked up to see pretty much up Maenalus' skirt, it took her a moment to realize it was a senshi. It fact, it took until she said 'You're a senshi too?!' for her to realize. Maybe it was the fact it was dark, but maybe too much credit is given to the child.

"Sailor Chibi Hypnos," she introduced herself. "Senshi of Sleep."

Now was the perfect time to free the cat, carefully letting the mewling cat out of her arms to flee down into the dark alleyway. It was nice that the cat was able to go undetected by the youma because of the larger senshi's presence and threat it presented. After the cat was carefully out of harm's way, the small senshi made a sigh of relief and pressed herself off of the ground. It was dirtier than she expected, having to carefully dust off the dirty from her starry skirt.

The older senshi seemed distracted, which wasn't the best idea when there was a youma standing not very far from her. It growled, and charged at Maenalus with haste. Older senshi or not, having their back to something that clearly wanted to take a bite out of them wasn't a good idea. It was thankful the child hadn't taken her eyes off it, and without saying anything grabbed hold of the older senshi's hand and began to tug it as hard as she could to move her out of harm's way.

Maenalus' thoughts ran. Why was there such a young senshi in such a dangerous fight? Wouldn't she be robbed of her childhood because of it? She was so cute! "I'm Sailor Maenalus, I'm the Senshi of Mount-!"

No, Maenalus was not the Senshi of Mount or Mounting. She was in the middle of her title when Hypnos saved her life by pulling her down. She caught herself on her hands and knees and ducked, the youma narrowly missing her. It might have cut off a hair or two, though. Looking at the chibi senshi with her eyes wide, she managed to get out.

"Uh... Thanks... Mountains, by the way." She kept her eyes glued on the youma this time, and it looked like it was going to circle back for a second attack. With her hands already conveniently located on the ground, she groped around until she found what felt like an empty bottle. She glanced over and picked it up by the neck, and turned her falling position into a crouch, readying herself for another attack.

Speaking to the senshi, now, she asked in a hushed voice, "Are you any good at fighting?" She herself wasn't, really, but she could bash stuff with bottles and punch pretty well. She just wasn't solid with her magical attack just yet.

Sailor Chibi Hypnos dreaded the word that came out of the one who addressed herself as Sailor Maenalus, Senshi of Mount-Mountains. It was Fighting with a capital F. Fighting never had a winner, despite what people may have thought. The child believed that when people fought that there would always be a loser, and the winner will have only hurt someone in the end! She shook her head, slowly at first until it was obvious what she was going to say next.

"I-I... do not like fighting," she whispered carefully towards the older senshi. She didn't say if she was any good at it or not, just that she didn't like it. She liked protecting people, especially those who had trouble doing so on their own, but she didn't like to hurt anyone. She didn't like to cause pain to anyone, not even the youma other senshi gave little less than a glance at before doing so. They may not be perfect, but humans were either. They still didn't deserve to be extinguished, right? Protecting someone and fighting was such a thin, invisible line that was often hard to differentiate between. They overlapped constantly when you had to fight to protect something. Hypnos didn't want it.

"You don't like fighting? That's okay." Maenalus didn't mind, really! She kept her eyes on the youma and herself between it and the chibi. "I'll try to keep us safe, just be careful, alright?" The senshi picked up a brick and threw it at the youma, hoping to discourage it or to disorient it until she could make a better, stronger attack.

Maenalus considered what she did against youma and Negaverse as combatting evil for the greater good. She didn't attack Negas unless provoked, after all, they're people too! But wouldn't hesitate with dusting a youma, as if she left it alone, she felt that it just gave the creature the chance to attack an innocent person somewhere down the road. She didn't enjoy the fighting, but when a youma's dust lay at her feet, she did feel good and accomplished, not for having ended its life, but for potentially saving human's lives.

She sympathized with Hypnos, though. It just seemed unfair that kid so little would have to fight the likes of the Negaverse. Personally she'd never gotten closer to a Captain than throwing distance, but she would probably rue the day that she fought one. Hopefully that wouldn't be before she was a super senshi.

With the youma seemingly only getting more and more aggravated with Maenalus' assault, she flinched a little at its terrible cry and threw a trash can lid at it. Which made it more mad. Hopefully this thing would die fast, and wouldn't get any closer!

Sailor Chibi Hypnos squeezes onto the hem on Maenalus' skirt and tugged, trying to pull her away from the youma and any projectiles she could find to throw at it. There was a reason the child had lured the youma all the way out to an alleyway instead of trying to defeat it and she didn't want to let Maenalus just ruin her attempt by dusting the poor thing! They were wild, and certainly ravenous but look at it! It got upset, and the child could clearly remember the howl of pain another youma before it had had. They were living. Maybe it was scared! Did anyone think about that? It acted more like a wild animal trapped in the city than anything else... shot as soon as authorities found it because they couldn't properly deal with it. The child didn't like that news story, not at all. She remembered crying painfully as she mourned the animal.

"D-don't hurt it!" She cried at the other senshi.

There had to be a better way than being the unaccustomed "authorities" in this scenario. Why couldn't they be more like the animal protection agencies who caught and released wild animals back into their natural environment? Why did they have to do this! There was no one here for it to hurt, except then, but they were senshi! They could protect themselves!

"We should catch it instead!" She announced abruptly. "And release in its home!"

Was this child crazy? Maenalus would probably think so but she was very sincere.

Her next projectile fell short of the youma and landed at its feet when the Chibi tugged at her skirt. "Don't hurt it!?" she repeated incredulously. Maenalus' understanding was 'hurt or be hurt' when it came to youma and some Negaverse agents (though not all of them were looking to fight, she'd heard).

They were aggressive, violent, and the worst were even cunning, like the one that had attacked her outside of the library. They weren't to be taken lightly, that's for sure. And they most certainly weren't to be pitied. The youma in front of them was no stray dog. By the looks of it, it may or may not have recently eaten one. But right now, it seemed more intent on eating the Senshi.

"But if I don't hurt it then it could kill us." She looked down at the Chibi. She felt bad for having to do this in front of her, she probably really loved animals. But it wasn't an animal. They couldn't catch it. "It doesn't have a home here on earth, it's a monster. Even though some might look like animals, they're not." She wasn't sure how to explain this to her. Any senshi should know that, right? So Hypnos was probably no exception. The problem was probably helping her to believe it, which would be more difficult than just teaching.

"...Its home?" Maenalus frowned. "Youma don't have homes, and wherever we put it, it'll just come back to hunt and hurt people and senshi."

Speaking of which, the senshi had to duck out of the way when the youma went on the attack again, careful not not trip over the Chibi Senshi.

Senshi thought youma didn't belong, Negaverse Soldiers thought Senshi didn't belong. Earth would perpetually be a No Man's Land if everyone kept thinking so direly! Why couldn't everyone just live together? Sailor Chibi Hypnos refused to believe that death was the only solution but instead was just the only solution Maenalus could determine. She shook her head, slowly at first, until finally her braids moved with her head.

"Tigers, lions, and bears!" Oh my. The child was not quiet about her objection to the older senshi's reply about youma being dangerous. They were all large animals much like the youma and just like the youma they could all easily hurt, maim and generally kill a squishy human. They usually didn't though, and if you left them alone then they wouldn't!

Then Maenalus had to went and say the youma didn't have a home and Hypnos frowned. Everything had a home, somewhere, didn't it? Maybe they just didn't find it yet but they had one! Youma were surely the same right? They were probably just looking for it, lost and scared! That seemed like a perfectly reasonable explanation! Hypnos imagined she'd be scared if people were always attacking her just because she was hungry and looking for food. As her thoughts spun around wildly in her head, her lips pushed together as her frown deepened and her fists wound together in a ball against her chest as she objected again. "How do you know if they have a home or not? They must come from somewhere. What makes you right? What gives you the right to say they deserve to die without looking at all the options?"

At this point the child had gotten very into her her objection, tears filling the corners of her eyes. Why did she feel like no one would ever believe her because she was little? What made her know less because she was younger? Why were all her ideas dismissed without even trying? She'd restrained youma several times before and although she knew what youma could do, she also (sorta) knew what she could do. Senshi were strong, why was killing something their only option? Why couldn't they use their gifts to stop violence, not feed the flames of it?

"Tigers...?" She furrowed her brows. She didn't understand. All of those animals had their place in the food chain and nature. Youma were just at the top of the food chain and fed on the starseeds of humans. Well, then senshi were above them, although they didn't eat youma, they just dusted them. This Chibi was making her feel worse and worse, but there was nothing to be done. Why couldn't she see that youma only existed to kill and collect?

"Youma live- well they don't really live- but they're only found around people. Because they eat starseeds. They kill people."

The youma didn't seem to want to pause for their talk, and lashed out at the both of them. Maenalus picked Hypnos up and ran out of the alley. She'd only barely been scratched, and she'd protected Hypnos. That was good.

"It just tried to kill us!"

If she was fighting for something like pit bulls or lions, tigers, or bears, Maenalus would have been on board with her a hundred times over. But youma were wholly evil. They reeked of chaos energy.

"I'm not trying to say that, but if we don't kill it, it will kill us. And more and more people until another senshi kills it." She sighed, not knowing what to do. She didn't want to ignore her and kill the youma in front of Hypnos. She did care what she thought, it's just... She wasn't wholly informed. At least in Maenalus' opinion.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 06, 2011 4:45 am

Sailor Chibi Hypnos just couldn't believe anything that the older senshi was saying, her ideal that everything in the world had at least a shred of good in them blinding her from anything else that the other senshi was trying to say. In the child's opinion, Maenalus was the one who wasn't wholly informed! She was supposed to be a senshi, protector of things and justice! She wasn't protecting the youma, and she wasn't bringing it any justice! The smaller senshi wouldn't have part of that and she began to struggle fiercely against the older senshi until she was free from her.

"No!" She responded, moving away from the older senshi.

She'd have to get the youma away again where it would be safe! She tried to get its attention solely to her and when she had, she began to move away with it following her. She'd protect it, it hadn't hurt anyone (yet) and it was only a small little thing! Unfortunately, running in bunny slippers wasn't as easy as the child had made it seem and all the running earlier had worn her out, causing her feet to slip and her to fall onto the gravel below with the youma on her heels and the youma didn't feel quite the same way about Hypnos as she did about it, jaws wide like a grin as it began to close the gap.
