The sunset holds within it a sort of morbid beauty, the death of light and the birth of night. Endless cycles on a planet hurtling through space. Sometimes, when the summer makes his blood run hot, Sang likes to sit out and watch it, nothing but him and the sun and the still air that hovers between them, makes the gap infinitely huge. The mosquitoes hover and buzz all about his face and unprotected arms, but not one dares to alight upon the pale, cold flesh and drink, for doing so would spell death. Rules among bloodsuckers and other deathly things run deeper than just custom and the spoken word. They crackle through the air like currents on the gold-tinged breeze.

This night finds Sang sitting atop a bridge made of stone, stout and old and very sturdy. It stretches over a creek that burbles and gushes merrily along its path, galloping over stone and tiny drops, before opening up to let into a large lake. From his perch on the divider which prevented travelers from toppling over the side, he watched the heavy golden orb sink lower and lower on its tired old arc. The half-light of twilight upon the surface of the lake turned it to a sheet of brilliant gold, sparkling where the tiny eddies of water rose up. The clouds were bright with a whole spectrum of different colors. The whole scene was utterly serene, like a painting brought to life, with irksome mosquitoes added.

“If only such fleeting beauty wasn't lost on me.”

At that, Sang laughed, a harsh, barking sound that was rusted and unfamiliar. All of eternity to do what he pleased, and what did he do with it? Watch the pretty colors streaked in the sky. Unfortunately, there could be no denying the appeal of that deep red that pulsed just on the horizon as the sun sank out of view. His hands went to the fabric of his pants, leaning slightly forward as he stared, waiting for that glimpse of crimson that was the real reason he even risked his immortality by stepping out into the sunshine, however slanted.

Low light the time when the world is wash over in hues of red, orange and gold. Hadrian often found the gap between night and day up lifting, and was often more eager to move about with the scorched colour sky hanging above him. It was like any other summer day where the mosquitoes were never unsatisfied with the taste of him. His ears subconsciously twitched as the pests tried to land and make an attempt at a meal. Hadrian was following a creek at it's edge, his attention was more focused on the babbling it produced.

Such a seemingly serene sound it made, but while listening closer, you could hear the chaos within. Bursts of power flowing endlessly through a carved passage way, that was only, slowly, being more carved further. The stones forced into one another until polished away into nothingness. It was invigorating to watch debris and fish effortlessly pulled forward by the current. Hadrian's ears perked and and forced the mosquitoes into a panic. The male figure on the stone bridge before him caused the abrupt noise. Hadrian's eyes narrowed, he didn't much care for word, especially those of someone talking to himself.

Hadrian straightened his back and watched as the figured lean forward. It was Hadrian's goal in life to never judge one observe, though sometimes he found that to be difficult as many people made their emotions and ideals very clear. Trying to avoid conflict he attempted to step behind a tree in hopes to study the figure some more.

*snap* Hadrian's face was pulled to see the branch he carelessly stepped on.

Though his focused rested on the setting sun in its entirety, he had still been marking the boy Hadrian's progress for a fair amount of time. If he thought he had stepped on only one branch, or that noise was the only way for Sang to pick up on Hadrian's presence, he had a great deal to learn. Beyond the way the boy stepped into the dried leaves that had fallen from the trees and curled upon themselves in the heat, Sang could smell the thin film of sweat that had collected just under his nose due to the heat of the evening. On top of that, the boy nearly exuded an aura of curiosity and ham-handed secrecy that was all too easy to pick up upon. The boy's thoughts washed against his back like waves in the sea, had been doing that since Hadrian had noticed him. When the boy snapped his especially large twig from behind the tree he stared at him from, Sang gave a tiny sigh.

“Child, I know where you stand. Come stand next to me, but keep quiet.”

He didn't want to sound so rude to one he'd just met, but he really had no patience at that exact moment. He wanted all of his being to enjoy that last glimpse of crimson. Sang had no desire to wasting a single moment of his own personal eternity. The time for introductions and formalities would come as soon as the sky went dark and Sang found himself in his proper domain, the land of the night. As soon as he called his invitation, Sang tuned the boy Hadrian out entirely, with just one flash of a desire for him to accept said invitation and join him for the evening. He had been without company for some time.

Also, Hadrian smelled delicious.

The hair on the back Hadrian's neck stood when the guy chided him about his location. With the sunset behind him the silhouette only a lotted for interpretation of what he was doing, his impression was that he was more taken by the sunset than Hadrian.
Looking past Hadian's red eyes captured the golden light that flickered through the leaves. Quickly he squinted and turned his face down, the light stung.

Moving closer the bridge he settled for the base where it met the water's edge in the shade.

"I don't consider myself a child. I'll stand here for the moment, thank you."

The man was quick with him, no doubt Hadrian would be too if he was interrupted but nevertheless Hadrian felt a little obliged to meet him half way on the request. Being quiet of course wasn't an issue, since he felt an urge pulling him to run, Hadrian moved ever more on his toes and stood more still than ever. His natural instincts felt the fangs in the voice, and they didn't care for letting them taste him.

Sunset rays glittered and danced on the water, Hadrian felt the wind passing through the bridge's mouth. He wondered if this was the peace before the storm that would come with nightfall.

Sang wasn't listening to Hadrian, however, and neither knew nor cared that the boy had moved no closer to him on the bridge. He knew only that blessed silence had filled the air, and this fact pleased him to no end. Though he was loathe to break said quiet, Sang spoke, softly, as much to himself as to the boy who stood watching him with something between confusion and apprehension.

“Look. See how the sky dyes itself crimson! See how the true nature of things is revealed in the dying light!”

For in that moment, the sun fell to the absolute bottom of its fiery arc, resting just below the lip of the horizon. A million shades of red filled the air, where they faded into a bruised purple, then into a deep navy blue, and finally, became wholly black. No stars had appeared yet, but they were close, quivering and biding just behind the veil of sky, waiting for the opportunity to burst free and make themselves known again. Sang watched it all, enrapt, the closest thing to genuine excitement that he'd ever experience plastered across his face like a coat of rouge. It made him look young and mortal and fresh and clean and sad, all at the same time. Had he the opportunity to see himself, he surely would have twisted with disgust and fled the scene, if only to save face. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, he could not, and the last traces of light fled from the night sky.

As red faded to black, Sang sat up straight again on the bridge. Swinging his feet back up over the sides, he turned to face Hadrian, regarding him with distant, roving eyes, all traces of the emotion of moments prior lost again. Elegantly, almost regally, he called, “Come, child. I asked you to stand next to me. Let us keep each other company on this fine summer evening.”
