Enoh Love The books had arrived in a rather timely manner of course, but he expected that. They weren't new by any means, but they at least LOOKED the part, which was all Mac really needed in the end. The novels were borrowed from his Aunt, who actually received the truth from her Nephew's mouth as to what they were for; a high class undead ghoul who needed to disobey her parents a little bit. Naturally the truth brought about a long note about how he shouldn't mess with other people like this and what if she gets into serious trouble because of it, finally that he should think his actions through more before it was lovingly signed 'Aunt Dree'. The letter was as ignored as the contents of the novels. Instead he whipped out his phone, scrolling through his contacts before he found the one he was looking for, for more reasons than to just complete a business transaction. He left her a message that she left a couple of textbooks at his dorm and that she should come over to pick them up right away...and helpfully left her times when he would be home to hand the books over. Now all that was left to do, was wait. Huni Pi Maritess had been at that moment exchanging messages with Lizzy when she received the message from him. Seeing the reaper's name appear on the screen of her skelephone made her instinctively twitch, recalling the rather disastrous (as far as she felt) business transaction. The transaction itself wasn't disastrous but rather her behavior during the act was and Tess had just barely managed to bottle her insecurities tightly enough to avoid detection from a certain unwanted limb from butting its fingers into her affairs. Business affairs, she reminded herself as she finally read the message.
Crimson eyes blinked in confusion over having left textbooks when she was certain she'd gone through great lengths to avoid the reaper dorms until the-OH! Dawning realization had Tess immediately type out a reply of when she would be available to retrieve them. Which, apparently was the soonest of the possible times he'd listed. The message itself was short, concise, and professional, with not even the barest hint of sarcasm. But then again, text isn't the best medium to use when trying to convey tone. For all the receiving end could read, Tess sounded excited and in a hurry to have the "textbooks" in her possession. Enoh Love The eventual knock on his door had him quickly jumping to his feet to cross the room towards the door, stepping over excited pups and debris of a messy room. He had to admit that he was nervous, which was a fairly rare occurance for him; if he wanted to do something he usually just swung by and grabbed them on the way to whatever it was he wanted to go to, but Prom... Well, Prom required a little more tact than he usually exhibited. It'd been a while since he honestly asked a ghoul out, too! The Reaper answered the door in his usual attire, right down to his favourite jacket. The only thing he was missing was his boots and belt, which weren't really needed if he wasn't leaving his room. "Tess! Fancy seeing you here." He greeted with a chuckle, stepping back to pull the door open further in an invitation to enter. "How have you been?" Mac was being nice, but he was mildly honestly curious. Huni Pi There shouldn't be any reason for Tess to be nervous. Really. She was just here to "inspect" the "textbooks" because no way in hell was she bringing them to her room. Besides. He'd promised her she could keep them in his room and she wasn't about to let him renege on his end of the bargain. She did pay him a pretty penny to begin with, might as well get the most out of it. And yet no matter what she told herself, she continued to feel nervous and jittery. Thankfully she didn't get lost because that would be one more thing he would undoubtedly tease her about. Also her self-esteem did not need any more kicks to it. She breathed in deeply, focused on the sensation of her ribcage swelling before breathing out and raising a hand to sharply knock on Mac's door.
When the door opened enough for her to enter, she silently went inside, "I've been... adequate," she responded as nonchalant as possible. She was certain the reaper didn't need to know about her escapades involving a certain limb and what seemed like ten billion bolts of cloth. "Mostly trying to keep up with details about this whole Prom thing. Groanspring's all abuzz about it." She wasn't sure if she wanted to make eye contact with Mac. Not after what Lizzy told her. So she ended up searching for the particular scareon pup she'd startled instead.

Enoh Love Prom...so she was at least interested in it, that was a good start! "I see, so I guess you're going, then?" Mac was trying to act nonchalant, but sometimes acting just wasn't his forte. The door was closed behind her and the Reaper moved around to go back to his desk there the little box of books sat. One was taken out and examined, followed shortly by the other, but while he busied himself with the books he was buying himself time to think of how he would ask her - the thought that she might have already had a date didn't cross his mind - and also made way for a certain little pup to examine the stranger. Well, remember the stranger. The pirate Pup started growling, it's back raised and fur fluffed out, trying to look as big and intimidating as he felt. Oh, he remembered her. The Monster with the tongue! Huni Pi Tess nodded in response to his question, and added "Yes," in case he wasn't looking. She stayed relatively near the door, partly out of respect to Mac's personal space, and partly because the mess still made her feel like it was going to rear up and swallow her whole. At the growling Tess only smirked in response. She could easily tease the the scareon but she wasn't a bully. Not really. Plus, so far, Mac hadn't given her a hard time over anything, which put her in a rather agreeable mood.
Huh. Maybe Lizzy was right that she would get along well with the reaper boil. "Well, hello there," she greeted the pup, lips parting to show the barest hint of fangs and the tip of her straw-like tongue. "The Prom's going to be my third dance here at Amityville," she casually remarked, this time directed at Mac. Unless the little pup had the ability to speak beyond yips and growls, in which case he was free to respond in kind. Enoh Love "Third, eh? You've been here way longer than I have, then." He commented cooly, finally deciding that he had lingered enough. "This is my first dance here." When he looked over he finally took note of the growling, puffed out pup staring up at Tess, and had to quirk an eyebrow. "What in Halloween did you do to him? He's usually so friendly..." Head tilted, Mac lightly nudged the pup out of his way with his foot, which apparently calmed the little thing down enough to bolt trot away, tail in the air like it owned the place. Mac stood in front of Tess now, head tilted down to look at the two books he held in one hand. He looked like he was battling something, his lips pressed into a hard line and brows lightly furrowed. Bouncing the novels for a moment, he made a low rumble of thought before lifting his black eyes to meet hers. "Before I give these to you, I would like you to do something for me." Huni Pi "Yes, yes, I've been here for many Octobers," Tess pursed her lips, semi-expecting a crack at her age. But none came. Huh. She now sort of felt bad for assuming the worst of Mac.
At his question regarding the pup, Tess canted her head in feigned innocence and shrugged, "It was rather juvenile of me but I just stuck my tongue out at him." There was absolutely no need for her to demonstrate and she wasn't going to. No, don't even think about it. And no, she wasn't going to apologize to it either. The pup had startled her and flustered her back then and so she felt justified. The minipet was going to half to deal with the undead because she fully intended to read over the textbooks. Possibly several times depending on how... scandalous they were.
When it seemed like Mac was about to hand her the books, Tess prepared to reach out. But then it became apparent that he was adding something to their deal at the last minute. And normally this would have elicited a rather... vicious glare from the winged ghoul and a deep frown. But considering what the spider demoness had told her earlier, Tess simply swallowed and tucked her arms behind her.
"Oh? What might that be?" Oh Jack, why did her voice have to waver at that precise moment?!

Enoh Love "... Really?" Mac snickered then, watching the Pup take up a spot on the bed to STARE at the Undead. "You must have a very scary tongue." He commented with a shrug, shaking his head and completely unaware how correct he was. It was probably just the fact she didn't have legs that scared him! That had to have been it. Back to business, though! The waiver in her voice and the sudden stance she took was...oh jack that was adorable. So, so cute. He couldn't help the grin that formed on his lips, or the way he leaned in so slightly. It was probably because she wasn't glaring at him that he felt something that wasn't the need to tease her relentlessly. He decided asking point blank would be easier, and not once did his gaze leave hers. "Go with me to Prom." It was structured like a demand, but it really was a question, honest! "...As my date?" Huni Pi "There are things that are terrified of a manananggal's tongue," Tess huffed in defense of her specie. Although scareons were relatively new on the list. As in probably added when Tess first met that particular pup. But that wasn't important, was it? No, oh Jack no. Tess had more important things to focus on.
Namely keeping herself aloft once Mac pretty much began a statement that luckily tapered off into a question. She should have expected it. Really. She should have. Lizzy pretty much told her outright. And part of her can't help but wonder how much influence the spider demoness had. Another part of her still felt like she got blindsided by the whole thing. And yet another part of her was somewhere flying over the moon enshrouded in dark clouds accentuated by a starless sky (which was the Halloween's version of a shoujo-backdrop) in delight that a boil had asked her to be his date.
"U-um," she stammered, fidgeting again and wishing fervently she had feet to scuff against the floor. Tess did not need a mirror to know her pale cheeks suddenly had a faint tint of color as she continued to stare into Mac's dark eyes. "Y-yes? B-but! O-only if you agree to adhere to certain conditions."
Hey, if Mac could add on last-minute clauses to their deal, Tess could sure as hell too! Enoh Love Mac hadn't had the time to look into what a Manananggal was, so he honestly didn't know about the tongue bit. It made her statement surprising, but surprisingly he didn't take up the opportunity to talk about it. Knowing him it would turn into something dirty, and being lewd wouldn't help his chances of getting a Prom date. Probably. Granted this particular ghoul was here for the smut novels he held in his hand...BUT NO. Keep clean. Lewd comments and revelations later! "Wo---but?" His attempt to cheer was thwarted and his excitement windled right down to surprise. Suddenly, he was suspicious. What conditions could the ghoul possibly give?! Hmm! Running a hand through his hair (well, partially through his hair, mostly under his hat), he chuckled softly. "You're getting good at this." Making deals business! Sigh. "What are your conditions?"

Huni Pi Tess once again took a deep breath (not that undeads needed to breathe or anything but the motion in and of itself was calming enough), eyes closing to sort out her conditions. Did she really have conditions? It sounded like something she just said in the spur of the moment. And suddenly it was very hard to look Mac straight in the eye. She cleared her throat. Stalling, stalling, stalling, oh! Idea-get!
A pale finger was raised, "One, tell me honestly whether or not Lizzy put you up to this. I'm asking because she's, um, she's already gotten me a date before. For Scarentines. At an auction." Why look, she's conveniently left out the fact Tess herself had bid on someone, pay no mind to the nervous biting of her lip (how she managed not to puncture them given her fangs is a mystery). Enoh Love Mac waited surprisingly patiently for Tess to get around to stating her conditions. He was starting to think that she actually didn't have ANY conditions and she was just playing hard to get. Not only was she stalling, but she wasn't looking him in the eye anymore! Hah! She was so stalling. The thought twisted his expression and the longer she stalled the more obvious his smile - and then his grin - became. ...Oh. There actually was a condition! Interesting. "..." Mac stared, his grin and any trace of smile gone from his features, leaving behind only the bewildered expression of someone caught off guard. Then, probably to Tess' dismay, he did what he did best and started laughing. "Oh dear Jack that's...Pffftahaha~~" Poor Tess has to put up with his laughing; he wasn't laughing at her despite how it might have looked, he was laughing at the idea. For her sake he tried to reign himself in quickly, but a hand did go up to wipe a tear away from an eye. "Maritess, oh Maritess, do you really think I'd do anything Lizzy asks me to do?" Snickering, he tried even harder to stop from bursting out laughing once more. "I can assure you, if she told me to ask you to Prom, I wouldn't even think of doing it." Hopefully, that would answer her question. Huni Pi Again with the laughing at her. It has, unfortunately, become her default assumption for any future reaction the reaper boil was going to make at anything that comes out of her mouth. The corners of her mouth made a sharp turn downwards. Or not. Well, there was a downward turn but it wasn't as deep as she thought it would be. For one, because it meant Mac really wanted her to be his date. And even if was a boil who liked to laugh at her, he had shown he could (briefly) be nice. For two, because it was a very much needed boost to her flickering self-esteem and anyone capable of giving her that was someone she ought to keep close.
Who knows? Maybe he'd help her manage that tongue of hers and keep her from constantly saying all the wrong things. The fewer times he laughed at her, the better for her, yes?
But that didn't change the fact she was still... not-quite frowning, more like pouting. "I find it rather confusing that she thinks so highly of you but you don't seem to think the same of her." Laughing at her was one thing, but laughing at her friends? Tess couldn't help but feel the need to come to the pink-haired ghoul's defense. There were still a couple more conditions but first, defend Lizzy's honor! Chicks before di-er-pri- forget that addage, Tess, focus on the sentiments instead! Enoh Love Had she been downright frowning, he might have apologized for his outburst. Since she was just pouting? He was still thoroughly amused. Good job, Tess! It was pretty clear she was rising to Lizzy's defense, so in the end that did stifle his chuckles for a while, at least for now. "Yeah, I doubt that." Black eyes rolled. There was no way Lizzy thought highly of him! "If she thought highly of me, she wouldn't give me jackin' stupid nicknames." Was there a hint of bitterness to his voice? Yes, yes there was. After all this time he still absolutely loathed that name. Loathed it. "Besides, I don't need that demon to tell me who I should ask." The bitterness had mostly faded, and instead he looked thoughtful. "So no, Lizzy didn't put me up to it, I wanted to ask you from the start." He smiled, placing a free hand in his pocket. "Anything else?" Conditions, of course.

Huni Pi "So you think Lizzy doesn't think highly of you. Because of a nickname?" She stared at him with unblinking eyes before it was. Oh Jack, could this be? The corners of Tess' lips twitched and then it was her turn to laugh. There might have been a snort at some point from how hard she ended up laughing. She almost fell to the floor as her entire body shook and her wings beat less. But she managed to catch herself, literally and figuratively, relatively quickly. A hand was covering her mouth in the wake of the last few snickers, "Hee hee, I can see why you enjoy laughing at, hee hee, me so much," she giggled. "But really. The times Lizzy ever mentions you to me, it's been nothing but positive things." Tess opted to leave out the part where she normally would have just stayed away from Mac -textbooks aside- after how he repeatedly laughed at her if it weren't for Lizzy insisting to give him another chance.
"I won't call you by that little sobriquet, it's too "intimate" for me to use anyway," Why yes, that was a double entendre she just used there, along with maybe a little nervous blush, "B-but all the same, thank you. Um, a second condition would be um, I'd like you to meet me at the venue rather than pick me up at the Undead Dorms." She didn't want Esme anywhere near the reaper boil. Enoh Love Oh how the tables has turned!
It was her turn to laugh, it was his turn to cross his arms over his chest - behind mindful of the two books - and to frown. Well then, this wasn't very nice! As she started to reign herself in his frown melted and he chuckled low, shaking his head slowly. Well, after everything else, it was good to know that she could laugh. There was that plus at least.
"Oh good, so you can laugh." He had said aloud, even if it was at his expense. What she had to say about Lizzy made him pause, his brows raising in curious surprise. "Wow, really?" The Reaper breathed out thoughtfully, tilting his head. "Now that is a surprise." He said even quieter. Huh. He might have to ask her about that one day! Lizzy, saying good things about him? That wasn't right. It couldn't be right.
"Well, good. I hate that name anyway." Calling it 'intimate' really only served to fluster him for a moment - there was nothing intimate about it, ever! - and he instead focused on the task at hand; her conditions.
"...Okay...? Do you don't want me to be a gentleman. Got it." How odd. The thought didn't cross his mind that she didn't want to be seen with him because, let's face it, most of the students were going to Prom. There was no hiding it.
"Anything else?" He almost regretted asking. Huni Pi It was a pleasant surprise for the undead ghoul to see that Mac had sore spots and nerves she shouldn't touch. Not that she had a fondness for upsetting anyone, deserving or otherwise, but it made her feel less embarrassed about herself and her numerous issues.
"Not be a gentleman?" She blinked, feeling like it came from way out of left field, "I would actually appreciate if you were, are?" Now she was just confused over her sentiment. Or did Mac think she meant for him to meet her at the venue as not being a gentleman? "I-it's just the last time someone came to pick me up, I ended up making them wait longer than necessary." And by that she meant she made them wait at all. Yes, she still felt terrible about how long it took for her to meet up with Sepheran and Liannan during Scarentines. "I figure at least you could be mingling with your other friends at the venue itself."
It was, for the most part, true. She just left out the detail where a certain Hand was going to be all up in his face should he pick her up at the dorms. Strangely enough, and maybe more than a little insulting, the Hand wouldn't think twice if she said she was dateless but managed to avoid being a wall-flower. Her gaze was once again downcast, suddenly finding the pattern of Mac's socks absolutely fascinating! "And, um, last condition would be that you tell me the general color-scheme of your attire at least a week before the event. I, um, I may think matchy-clothes are cute but they never work well outside of skelenovellas, or croak operas, or the big scream presentations." Enoh Love "...So, a Gentleman, but don't pick you up? Isn't that kind of...the gentleman thing to do? I don't mind waiting." The Reaper gave a brief shrug. "I think my friends will be busy with their own dates." Charlie would be distracted with Amrita no doubt, and Lizzy would be off with whoever it was she was going with - he seemed to have forgotten who her date was, if he had ever even been told who it was - so all in all, he would likely be waiting alone there, too.
He had to pause and think about the general colour scheme of his outfit, thoughtfully looking at the wardrobe on the other end of the room.
"Uhh...I guess...earthy? The jacket is a 'Hunter Green'.." Mac rolled his eyes and provided air quotes for the shade of green he was working with. "I can go into more specifics if you want, or if you'd like to see it on me?" A teasing grin did flash across his lips for a moment, but aside from that he was pretty serious about the idea. Matching was something ghouls liked to do, and if that's what she wanted well, who was he to stop her. Prom was more for the ghouls anyway. Huni Pi Tess was still staring at Mac's socks when he pointed out the contradiction of her explanation, "I-I can see how that might look that way. But that is one of my conditions. Th-that's all." she fidgeted a little more, especially at the suggestion of the jacket. "Just the jacket on you?" Her voice was a sudden squeaked at the thought and immediately decided she'd given enough conditions and that he'd agreed to them. "Earthy green, got it, u-um, u-ummmm, Ireallyshouldgonowthankyouagain!" She quickly finished and headed out of his room with a slam of the door.
A beat.
And a series of knocks.
Another beat. "I forgot the literature."
